View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a laptop last week with Windows 7 home premium. Currently have desktop wire to router with Windows 7 home premium as well. Everything hunky dorry in regards to internet connection. 2 days later, I've lost internet connection to both computers. Both say I'm connected to my network. I have other mobile devices that can connect to the router, so I don't think that's the issue. I read about disabling Home Group, which I did and that didn't help. I've got to think that there is a setting I just need to tweek, but have yet to come across something that works. The laptop does connect at my work to the WiFi so the network card is working properly. Both computers will connect to the internet if I bypass the router and connect ethernet cable directly from modem to computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a desktop and a laptop both with Windows 7 on the same LAN and both have their network setting to Home. From my desktop, I am able to add a network location in My Computer to connect to my laptop. However, on my laptop I am unable to connect to my desktop. The desktop shows up in the list of network locations on my laptop but it always times out trying to connect to it and just says there was a problem with the connection. know the problem is not with my laptop because I am able to connect to my other PC as a network location. I really need to be able to connect to my main desktop though.

View 1 Replies View Relatedjust last night after i was finished playing skyrim for the night, i saw on steam that i had no connection. so i looked towards the internet bars icon next to the clock and saw a yello triangle with a "!" in it. so i disconnected and reconnected but still the yellow "!". so i just decided i would try again tomorrow (today).when i woke up today it didn't have that error, so i decided to go to Internet on chrome, but it had that "webpage not available" (wouldn't work for ie either). i figured it would soon fix itself like it always had, so i tried playing mw3 on my xbox, but it wouldn't connect to live either o.o and when my mom wanted to watch netflix on the living room xbox, she couldn't connect either! then i figured out it was definatly my modem that was refusing to connect to anything.

My wireless adapter status reveals that IPv6 has No Internet access. IPv4 is connected to both the network and the Internet. Every service provided through my onboard wireless adapter is enabled.
I'm wondering if there is a way to show the connected devices as icons on the desktop as is done in OS X. If you aren't sure of what I'm talking about, it's when I plug my phone, external hard drive, DVD, etc into the computer and instead of always going into My Computer to view what's connected, it shows up as an icon on the desktop. Is this possible, or is this just a feature I have to live without unless I cross over to the dark side and use OS X?

Is there a way to stay connected to a computer via remote desktop while it reboots, or at least automatically reconnect? I ask because I need to take some screen captures of the BIOS settings which I can only get into on bootup. I can't use my screen capture application while in the BIOS, or at any point during bootup, but I can from another computer that's remotely connected to it - that is, if it could BE connected while at this stage in the bootup.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would just like to say, I am not just posting this question anyhow. I have read around and I haven't found any solution to my problem, thus I have resorted in opening a new thread. So here is the prob:I have a Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook which is connected to a WRT54GL Wireless-G Router. This router is connected via hard wire to my Windows Vista Desktop and that is how the desktop has access to the internet. The netbook is accessing the internet the very same Router via Wi-Fi. The Printer (HP DeskJet 940c) is connected and installed on the Windows Vista Desktop and is functioning. It prints when I give it commands from the desktop. I have set the printer sharing options 'on' in the Networks and Sharing Center as well as haven't kept a sharing password (its open and unprotected). This is as far as I have gotten. My next challenge is, how can I print from the Windows 7 Starter Edition netbook on my HP Deskjet 940c via the Router.I would be very grateful if someone can explain to me in a very noob-ish way as I am not a techie. If someone could send me a video link or so.

How would I go about setting the dpi to say 140 when my laptop is connected to my tv, then when I disconnect and just use my laptop screen the dpi would revert back to default settings? Is windows 7 capable of increasing the setting automatically when it detects an external monitor then when I disconnect it would revert back to default setting ? Without having to change the setting all the time ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a new internal hard drive (Seagate Momentus 1 TB) for my Samsung laptop. I put it in my Rocketfish USB shell case, and plugged it in to my laptop. It said "Found new hardware" and said it was ready, but it never showed up as an additional drive in Windows Explorer. I tried it on a different computer and the same thing happened. The light on the case came on, it said "Found new hardware", but it never showed up as an additional drive to put anything one.
I wanted to do a "backup and restore" of my laptop's existing hard drive onto this one, but if it doesn't "see" the new HD, it obviously won't work.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo here is the deal: about 6 months ago I purchased a brand new laptop and connected it to my DLink router that has been working on our PC for about 3 years now. I also have 2 Playstations and 2 other laptops connected to the D Link (all of which are working fine and NEVER have any problems whatsoever). About 3 weeks ago, I turned my laptop on and tried going online, but much to my surprise, it couldnt connect. Its supposed to automatically connect, but this time it didnt. I figured I would manually connect it. I opened up the window that displays all the routers that the laptop is picking up and i saw my D Link so I try to connect. It attempts, then says "connected" and the after 3 seconds or so, it says "Limited Access". I thought it was a problem with the internet so I checked the other laptops in the house and the Playstation and they are all working fine. I figured it was my laptop so I shut it off and restarted it but it did not work. Next, I tried unplugging the router and waited for 2 minutes or so and plugged it back in. Yay! It worked! I solved the problem! I began surfing the internet for a couple hours when, BAM! It suddenly went out again. I figured I would unplug the router once again to see if it was just some kind of glitch and would work fine this time. I unplug it and repeat the process over again. after 2 hours, it goes out. Everything else in this house seems to be working just fine on the router with no problems whatsoever, except mine. I have not messed with any of the configurations because I have not idea where to even begin so I know it cant be with the configurations. My laptop is new with windows 7, I'm using xfinity as a provider.
Side note- I did a test and when I cant connect to the internet with my laptop it fails a "PING" test (no idea what that is), but when I unplug and plug up the router and the internet is fine on the laptop, it will pass the "PING" test.
I have an acer laptop aspire 5738z. the problem is i'm not able to access a web page but my computer is connected to my router and it says internet access all the application who need internet are not working (internet explorer, real player, google chrome, my anti-virus,etc).
