I bought a new internal hard drive (Seagate Momentus 1 TB) for my Samsung laptop. I put it in my Rocketfish USB shell case, and plugged it in to my laptop. It said "Found new hardware" and said it was ready, but it never showed up as an additional drive in Windows Explorer. I tried it on a different computer and the same thing happened. The light on the case came on, it said "Found new hardware", but it never showed up as an additional drive to put anything one.
I wanted to do a "backup and restore" of my laptop's existing hard drive onto this one, but if it doesn't "see" the new HD, it obviously won't work.
i have a brand new toshiba laptop connected wirelessly. however it keeps showing connected however no internet access.i have a notebook as well that is brand new and it connects no problems what so ever.im using windows 7 home premium and 64 bit os.
Earlier this morning I restarted my laptop to the desktop and left it running. After coming back to my room a couple hours later, I noticed that there was a System Repair window on the screen. And whenever you see this there is always a state of being very concerned.I restarted my laptop only to be directed to the BSOD. I restarted the laptop, only to be presented with the same screen. I immediately took a picture with my cell phone to make sure I could read anything that could give me a clue as to what the error could be. Below are the error codes:
I started up the laptop and was prompted with options to either start Windows as it usually would or to try and go through the system repair. I tried system repair again. I was brought to a screen to try and do a system restore to an earlier point. The closest restore point was earlier today and that was due to some critical updates that windows had automatically had downloaded and installed. So, I tried hitting that restore point only to be shown a window that stated that system restore was unsuccessful with the restore. I tried again with a restore point from a week ago and was again shown the same unsuccessful window.
The next thing I did was scour the internet for recent BSOD listings. Everything told me to get into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 button after restarting the computer. The first time I tried it, I hit Safe Mode (without networking or command prompt). I saw the screen fill up with file listings as it usually does, again to be prompted with the BSOD. The next time I tried hitting F8 I was only shown two options: Start Windows normally or the system restore option. I tried again searching the internet on my phone to try and first power down the laptop, take out the battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, which I first did. Then I went into the command prompt located in the system restore window. I performed chkdsk /r on the C: drive by typing:C:, then enter and chkdsk /r I was then prompted with something about having to dismount the C; drive in order to check the drive, and pushed Yes for that. After that was completed I was successfully able to find all the boot options in the F8 menu when you restart the computer. This was an arduous journey to get this far. Took quite awhile and there were many unsuccessful other attempts before trying this route. So, I tried the Safe Mode with Networking and booted successfully into Safe Mode. I tried running Norton which stated that I couldn't perform that action. So I tried restarting, FINALLY to boot into Windows. I am currently performing a full system scan with Norton 360 and will post my findings. I am also posting the minidump files that were asked for, in order to post in this forum below.

I have a Windows 7 Laptop which i bought in January, at the same time i bought a WD 2TB external hard drive to back up all my files onto (last laptop broke and i lost everything so decided to keep everything off the laptop itself).
Because I like to lay on my couch with my wireless keyboard and mouse and I find that the desktop is too small at normal setting. How would I go about setting the dpi to say 140 when my laptop is connected to my tv, then when I disconnect and just use my laptop screen the dpi would revert back to default settings? Is windows 7 capable of increasing the setting automatically when it detects an external monitor then when I disconnect it would revert back to default setting ? Without having to change the setting all the time ?
I connected my laptop to my TV using a VGA cable and although i have no problem with the picture i can't use the volume control on the tv - the sound still comes from the laptop. How do i change it so i can use the tv's bigger speakers? Also is it possible just to connect the tv and laptop using a HDMI cable and get the sound that way as both have HDMI ports?I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on a Samsung R530 laptop and the tv is a Panasonic Viera.
i bought a new toshiba laptop satellite c660/c660d its very slow and i cant connect to my wireless network iv tryed changeing the wireless channels my network provider is eircom i really dont know wat to do now it works when i plug it in
So here is the deal: about 6 months ago I purchased a brand new laptop and connected it to my DLink router that has been working on our PC for about 3 years now. I also have 2 Playstations and 2 other laptops connected to the D Link (all of which are working fine and NEVER have any problems whatsoever). About 3 weeks ago, I turned my laptop on and tried going online, but much to my surprise, it couldnt connect. Its supposed to automatically connect, but this time it didnt. I figured I would manually connect it. I opened up the window that displays all the routers that the laptop is picking up and i saw my D Link so I try to connect. It attempts, then says "connected" and the after 3 seconds or so, it says "Limited Access". I thought it was a problem with the internet so I checked the other laptops in the house and the Playstation and they are all working fine. I figured it was my laptop so I shut it off and restarted it but it did not work. Next, I tried unplugging the router and waited for 2 minutes or so and plugged it back in. Yay! It worked! I solved the problem! I began surfing the internet for a couple hours when, BAM! It suddenly went out again. I figured I would unplug the router once again to see if it was just some kind of glitch and would work fine this time. I unplug it and repeat the process over again. after 2 hours, it goes out. Everything else in this house seems to be working just fine on the router with no problems whatsoever, except mine. I have not messed with any of the configurations because I have not idea where to even begin so I know it cant be with the configurations. My laptop is new with windows 7, I'm using xfinity as a provider.
Side note- I did a test and when I cant connect to the internet with my laptop it fails a "PING" test (no idea what that is), but when I unplug and plug up the router and the internet is fine on the laptop, it will pass the "PING" test.
I have an acer laptop aspire 5738z. the problem is i'm not able to access a web page but my computer is connected to my router and it says internet access all the application who need internet are not working (internet explorer, real player, google chrome, my anti-virus,etc).
i've a unsecured neighbor's network & my MSI laptop detects the network with full signal & it shows connected with a yellow exclamatory mark in a triangle, but i'm unable to access the internet. the ip address 192.168.1.1 is pinging properly.
I have both HP computers , desktop is windows xp and laptop is windows 7 . the desktop says both PC are conneted but the laptop is not .I have tryed to restore and that wont work
My pc was slowing down so I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7. All went well except one thing internet on wifi doesn't work. The rest of the toys in the house still connect through the router but the laptop does not. If the lan cable is plugged in the internet works. I used this to find the latest drivers for my laptops wifi card. Through the wifi I can enter the router settings but not externally to the internet.
I have a acer 5235 laptop on win 7 now the screen got cracked (but still worked)I have got a new screen the same model number the screen has now been fitted but the laptop wont power up ?Now if you unplug the screen from the mother board the laptop will power up so its not a motherboard fault, plugged the screen back in and got a instant shutdown So thinking the screen is at fault i plugged my old cracked screen back in and boom no power laptop fails to power up so d/c the screen it powers up plug the screen in while powered up and it shuts down instant crash the laptop works on an external monitor perfect, the new screen is from acer them selfs no after market, the strange thing is even the original cracked screen is failing to let the laptop power up There is no lights nothing when the screen is plugged in also it knocks the light out on the adaptor unplug the screen from the motherboard and everything works
My laptop won't start when the usb for the xbox wireless controller is plugged in. The laptop starts, the screen turns on but it's black and nothing appears on it. The fans run and everything but screen just stays black and windows never loads. If i remove the wireless receiver and restart the computer it stars normally and then if i plug the receiver it works just fine.
This is a new laptop and the same receiver used to work perfectly on my old laptop. Also i tried plugging it into different usb sockets but same result.
I have been accessing wifi on it for almost the entire time... Was workn on the nternet with my laptop till day before yesterday mornng.....
When i switched it on in the evenng, it suddenly started showing that the internet is connected, but there is no nternet access!!! There was a yellow icon (triangle) at the internet connection icon...!!
I am able to access the same internet with my ipad n iphone, but says 'no internet access' or 'limited access' while trying the same from my laptop...!!
1) Since about 2-3 days ago, my laptop wouldn't stay connected to wireless once I put the laptop on standby. I have to connect to it each time I open my laptop. This has never happened before so I feel like something went wrong.
2) My wireless won't connect to any other connections other than my home. I went on a ski trip recently, and while my wireless worked on my iphone and ipad, my laptop wasn't able to connect to it. I feel like this laptop has a lot of weird configuration problems. It also won't connect to my home network unless SSID is disabled. So this brings up the question, will my laptop never be able to connect to any network that has SSID enabled? This is really weird and frustrating because my laptop used to be able to connect to my home router fine while its SSID was enabled. I don't get what happened to it. This is troublesome because that means that I will never be able to use wireless anywhere else other than my home.
my settings regarding wireless? Does anything seem abnormal?

I have a HP Pavilion dm1z laptop. The laptop has a HDMI port. I am trying to connect it to my Samsung BX2335 display. The display has the DVI dual link port only. So I bought a HDMI - DVI adapter.I have Win7 x64 on my laptop. When I start the laptop with the external display connected, the picture is duplicated on both the laptop and the external display. But as soon as Windows starts, the picture will only be displayed on the laptop, 'Starting Windows' being the last picture shown on both displays. After some investigation it seems that windows could not detect the external display successfully. In the 'Screen Resolution' window the external display is shown as 'Display the device on: VGA'. It is impossible to view the properties of the external display, as the option is disabled, and the display is called 'Default Monitor'.I tried updating the AMD Radeon Catalyst drivers, but this did not help. Tried to install the external display drivers, but these installed as the mobile device display drivers.

It's been some time since my Dell XPS M1530 laptop has been having Internet issues when connected via Wireless. It currently sports an Intel 4965 AGN ard with Windows 7/8 pre-installed drivers and is connecting wirelessly to a Thomson router. It connects smoothly, but its reception of packages sucks: I can't connect to FTP, load pages at all, and downloads are around 8 kB/s. (Max should be 250 kB/s). Whereas other laptops are able to load pages normallyAll cords are correctly connected, and I don't believe the card is the one malfunctioning since I can connect to other routers flawlessly.
i have a samsung laptop running windows 7. i have a netgear modem and router. all of my other devices connect with no problems but my laptop wont stay connected. it will connect for a while and then it will disconnect.
My laptop is connected to Wi-Fi but the internet doesn't seem to work. It shows "No Internet Access". the same network is working fine on other systems.
I hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Windows 7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".
It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.
Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:
- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery - shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while - restarted everything and the issue will not go away
It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.
My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it.
