View 3 RepliesI hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Windows 7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".
It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.
Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:
- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away
It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.
My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it.
I've done manual reconnection (NEVER WORKS) and Troubleshooting (hardly ever works). I've tried disabling and reenabling the wireless and restarting the computer. Nothing can seem to prevent these problems from happening. Sometimes the network won't even show up!
I can't fathom how it's possible to SOMETIMES detect the network and SOMETIMES connect to it. I've thought of purchasing a repeating (quite pricey if you ask me) or perhaps using an antenna extension cable. Not sure either would be successful in alleviating my problem.
Finally, and the most odd thing, is that when the router was in the basement, I actually got a better signal even though it was LOWER than before. Not sure if this was because it was connected directly to the phone box, but the router is back on the first floor and the problem persists daily.
My computer has been acting up lately,I haven't made any changes to my computer or anything but it seems to just not want to connect to the inter for more than 5 min. My othe computer on the house seems to connect fine, but mine will only connect for 5 min the can't find the network for 15 min and it does this repeatedly. I tried updating the drivers but there were no updates available. I ran the troubleshooter and it couldn't find a problem, it just said to make sure I was in range of the router, which I am because my computer was working fine in the same spot about a week ago.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo here is the deal: about 6 months ago I purchased a brand new laptop and connected it to my DLink router that has been working on our PC for about 3 years now. I also have 2 Playstations and 2 other laptops connected to the D Link (all of which are working fine and NEVER have any problems whatsoever). About 3 weeks ago, I turned my laptop on and tried going online, but much to my surprise, it couldnt connect. Its supposed to automatically connect, but this time it didnt. I figured I would manually connect it. I opened up the window that displays all the routers that the laptop is picking up and i saw my D Link so I try to connect. It attempts, then says "connected" and the after 3 seconds or so, it says "Limited Access". I thought it was a problem with the internet so I checked the other laptops in the house and the Playstation and they are all working fine. I figured it was my laptop so I shut it off and restarted it but it did not work. Next, I tried unplugging the router and waited for 2 minutes or so and plugged it back in. Yay! It worked! I solved the problem! I began surfing the internet for a couple hours when, BAM! It suddenly went out again. I figured I would unplug the router once again to see if it was just some kind of glitch and would work fine this time. I unplug it and repeat the process over again. after 2 hours, it goes out. Everything else in this house seems to be working just fine on the router with no problems whatsoever, except mine. I have not messed with any of the configurations because I have not idea where to even begin so I know it cant be with the configurations. My laptop is new with windows 7, I'm using xfinity as a provider.
Side note- I did a test and when I cant connect to the internet with my laptop it fails a "PING" test (no idea what that is), but when I unplug and plug up the router and the internet is fine on the laptop, it will pass the "PING" test.
1) Since about 2-3 days ago, my laptop wouldn't stay connected to wireless once I put the laptop on standby. I have to connect to it each time I open my laptop. This has never happened before so I feel like something went wrong.
2) My wireless won't connect to any other connections other than my home. I went on a ski trip recently, and while my wireless worked on my iphone and ipad, my laptop wasn't able to connect to it. I feel like this laptop has a lot of weird configuration problems. It also won't connect to my home network unless SSID is disabled. So this brings up the question, will my laptop never be able to connect to any network that has SSID enabled? This is really weird and frustrating because my laptop used to be able to connect to my home router fine while its SSID was enabled. I don't get what happened to it. This is troublesome because that means that I will never be able to use wireless anywhere else other than my home.
my settings regarding wireless? Does anything seem abnormal?

Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis new USB3.0 ext HDD seems to be in an almost constant state of Windows thinking it is unplugged, then just plugged back in, back and forth. I had to shut autoplay on it off because it would happen at least once a minute, sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes a couple minutes. The drive and case are brand new, but this is just like what was happening with my old drive via eSATA. I thought something was just wrong with the drive or my eSATA port, but now this. I know the USB3.0 port is fine because I have plugged in flash drives (even a 3.0 one) and connected other drives via 2.0 in it, with no problem. As for the eSATA ext HDD at least, this was happening a couple months ago before I wiped my system, and is still happening now. New OS install changed nothing.
These drives show up as known and installed in Device Manager. Disk Management's info is correct. Acronis is the same. Sometimes they just need a coaxing from "Scan for Hardware Changes" to even try to let me do anything. Windows Explorer, though, shows it all on its own, when it does think it's plugged in. (& yes, the plug fits quite snugly into the port, all is fine there.) Also, on my fiance's rig, both drives are also behaving exactly as the should. It's something over here...what could be causing my system to have trouble keeping these external drives onboard?

-Tried Wireless and wired, (Both same results)
-Reformating the computer to get rid of any rogue programs messing the net up

My new laptop running Windows 7 Professional and it is not easily recognizing other workgroup computers. When, and if, it does, it does not staying connected to other computers and a wireless printer on my workgroup.I have a desktop that is running Windows XP Home. It is sharing its printer and external hard drive to all computers in the workgroup. When I got on the router, I was able to get the Windows 7 machine to see XP box long enough to map a drive and load the printer. After rebooting, Windows 7 did not recognize the drive map or the printer. I pinged the XP box and got Destination Host unreachable. The only thing I can ping is the router. Also, when I went to load the wireless printer (with Windows 7 drivers) it did not see the printer even though the printers connection light is on. I have two Vista Business machines and one Windows 7 Home computers in my workgroup. These are not having any problems. From those other machines, they can ping each other but they cannot ping the new box.It is acting like a setting in Business has it isolated itself and is not allowing traffic. I have searched this problem and it seems to be common but I have not seen a post addressing the Business question. I have tried everything that the help files and forums stated (setting discovery, disabling IPv6, disabling firewall on both, uninstalling virus protection, etc.) with no result. Is there a setting in Business that would prevent it from being visible?

today, i received my windows 7 party pack and installed the os. whenever i reboot the computer, i don't have internet access. i have to go to network and sharing center to go to the ipv4 settings to input the default gateway everytime. my nic is the integrated realtekRTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. at first, i used the microsoft drivers from the os. i did update to the realtek drivers, but the same thing is happening.
i've also ran various ipconfig commands, but nothing i've been able to do seems to help. anything i'm missing?
my user account keeps getting locked out on my domain. It's happening about every 30-60 minutes from my IP address. I've checked the logs on my DCs and the are Pre-Authentication errors due to my laptop being Windows 7 and the DCs running Server 2003. I've tried updating my password and making sure I am logged out of every other server/PC/mapped drive on the domain. I've also tried changing my IP, just because. The strangest part is this happens when my laptop is not connected to the network as well. I will check the logs and my IP Address is listed as the offender.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio laptop, obviously with Windows 7, service pack 1. It's a little over a year old I believe. It's 64-bit with 4 gb of ram.A few months ago I would say, the laptop stopped "staying" asleep. It's set to go to sleep when I shut the lid, and it does, however the slightest movement, even with the lid closed, causes it to turn back on. This happens if I move it into the case, or even carry it from one room to the next. I don't know if this is supposed to happen, but I just tried manually putting it to sleep, and before I could close the lid, it moved slightly and turned back on.Currently my only solution is to manually set it to hibernate

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows 7 64 bit and I'm having a strange internet issue. This has happened to me before and I've only been able to solve by doing a system restore but I figure there has got to be a much better way to solve this problem. In the bottom right hand corner beside the clock there is a little icon that resembles a little monitor (I'm no brilliant tech person so a lot of this is going to sound stupid probably) right now it shows a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. When I hover over it with my mouse it says Network Connected and then No Internet Access. This is where it gets strange. I am able to connect to pretty much any website when I open my browser. Now I like to play online games and I recently got BF3. And as some of you may know you need to go through "Origin" in order to play it. Well when I connect to the Origin "library" it tells me I'm offline and basically tells me I won't be able to play multiplayer. But as I said earlier I am able to access the internet for the most part. This issue has been happening well before I got BF3 too.
So I've done everything I can possibly think of. I've emptied my cache, cookies, etc. I have also done the "IPCONFIG/ ALL" thing. Rebooted the modem and the computer. done any system updates. I have also turned my firewall off briefly and tried that. It only seems to work when I do a System Restore and I really don't want to be doing that every time I have this problem. I have troubleshooted it as well.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started getting the problem where my laptop would connect to the network but there would be no internet access. I tried many of the suggestions that I found online, like flushing the dns and resetting the tcp/ip but none of them seemed to work. The only thing that I have been able to get to work is doing a system restore to the day before it began to happen. However, the next day when i swich on my laptop again I have the same problem so I have to restore again. Obviously doing a system restore everytime i want to use my laptop isn't ideal.I can't figure out what is doing this. At first I thought it was a windows update but I disabled all updates after one of my restores and it did not make any difference. I also have mcafee installed and disabled anything within that that I thought could have been an issue. As far as I can see I have not changed or installed anything after the system restores that would cause this problem to arise each time I start up my laptop.
