my windows 7 pc has been partially freezing recently. i say partially because i'm still able to mouse around the screen and interact with open windows a little bit, but it's mostly useless and i have to do a hard reset.this seems to happen when i'm watching a Internet video (using chrome) after i've had it paused a while in order for it to buffer.i have run virus scans (microsoft security essentials) and malware scans (malwarebytes) and both have come up negative.i have also cleared cleared the cache (ccleaner) and defragmented the drives (defraggler) and that didn't seem to help either.i built this computer back in february so it isn't even a year old yet so it should be that full of crap yet that it would need a fresh install.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit on two machines, and then Firefox 16.0.1 on each. Trying to replace the password files in my new profile, I found that many of these folders and files (in UsermeAppDataRoamingMozilla) cannot be deleted, nor can their ownership be changed. They belong to me already, and I'm an administrator with Full Control.
I've tried 72 tricks, including Emco UnLockIt 3.0.3, Unlocker 1.9.1, Take Ownership registry keys, takeown (from the command line), etc. Nothing works. I can't move them, delete them or anything. Nor can Mozbackup create a backup profile (it can't write the backup). Why does Firefox create these weird locked files and folders? Why doesn't Windows 7 allow me to take control of them?
Customer has Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit OS. Customer highlights a sequence of consecutive MS Word 2010 files in his C:usersUserNameMy Documents folder (NOT the My Documents library but the actual folder). He right clicks and selects Print in the pop-up menu. Some print, some do not and the order of printing is NOT EXACTLY the order of the files in the folder.On previous customer PCs running Vista and Windows XP the above worked PERFECTLY. However, the customer was running Word 2007 on the Vista PCs.
note this is NOT the Word 2010 error about "xxxx normal.dot" that Google search will quickly show for bulk printing. There is NO error message. Also the normal.dot error prevents all but the first file from printing ; he gets several files to print.Also this is NOT printing from a Window 7 library (which did not exist in earlier OS's). A windows 7 library is ACTUALLY links to files in the actual folders and MAYBE bulk printing would not work for a library BUT this is the actual My Documents folder as defined above (full path name).Also he has only tried this for Word 2010 files BUT that could be because that is all he want to print. The problem could occur with a mix of ANY printable files (ex Word and PDFs); I can not report on whether that is true or not as I only have info from the customer on the phone about this at the moment.
(1) Has any other sevenforums expert seen this problem or can provide a link to a forum where someone else reported this problem.
(2) What is the solution OR is does this feature just not work right in Windows 7. Regarding this last thing, please note the feature has not worked right since he first booted his Windows 7 SP1 PC. It did not work initially and then later fail.
Just started with a new computer and the automatic update downloaded some that I do not want to install. How do I get rid of them? I saw something on another forum about stopping the update, deleting softwaredistribution folder in the windows directory, and then restarting update, but that was for Vista., Will this work with Windows 7?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would say 80% of the time I can't access Facebook. When I can I can only access it through https but whenever I click on a link that is just http it will timeout. Other times I can just not access it no matter what. This happens on all browsers. IE9, Chrome, FF, etc. All of them have the same results so this wouldn't be a browser issue. What I have done. My laptop which is a macbook has no issues when connecting through same network.
This would rule out router settings (which I double checked anyways). This should also rule out ISP blocking. I ran walwarebytes and ccleaner numerous of times and it didn't pick anything up. I checked hosts file which it isn't in there. I added *.facebook.com in trusted sites in control panel just for the attempt of running out of ideas. What else could I possibly check and why would it work sometimes through https but not http?
Desktop comp. is Windows 7 Pro x64, laptop is Windows 7 Home Premium x32. Login passwords are the same. Homegroup was set up on the desktop, the laptop then joined. Homegroup passwords are the same. Both are members of "Workgroup" and are set as "Home Networks." Settings are per "Homegroup - Add Computer or Join"
The Windows generated library on the desktop, "Pictures" has five different locations in it, from three different drives. The "Documents"library has four different locations from three different drives, and the "Music" library has three different locations from two different drives. All the desktop libraries work as expected on the desktop.
All libraries, drives and folders are shared, and "Everyone" has all rights.
The laptop sees the desktop, and the three shared libraries. But it sees only one of each desktop libraries' several locations, the one that is listed first in the properties of the library on the desktop.
i used bitlocker to encrypt, the process didnt get more than 10% done before failing, the result is a partially encrypted drive that is locked ( password and recovery key wont work) i need a program that will help retrieve the remaining data that is not encrypted.

View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery now and then my WiFi stops working, and if I go to dev mgr, the General tab tells me that "No drivers are installed for this device" for device status. On the other tabs, however, I have all the details on the installed driver, and if I ask Windows to update the driver, it tells me that the best driver is already installed. The problem is solved by rebooting, but I find that annoying. I'd like to figure out WHY it does that. I've saved earlier versions of that particular driver from over the last three years, and the problem occurs with all of the drivers. This is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. The driver is an Intel driver; the one installed at this moment (it just happened again, and I have not rebooted, since I had a powerline enet outlet handy), and the version of the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN is 14.3.1. I have other versions of that driver saved, from 13.2.1.5 to 15.1.1_Ds64. I had reverted to the 14.3.1 because the more recent versions seemed to be worse about the driver disabling itself or whatever it is doing.Coincidentally with this, the event viewer shows that mmc.exe was terminated because it was hanging. I had just run sfc yesterday, and there are no corrupt files that Windows cannot fix, and there weren't even any corrupt files that it DID fix.

Throughout the movie playback my PC lagged like it was 50 years old and the movie kept getting stuck at times. Now when I attempt to delete the movie file, it says recycling but it never goes any further on the green progress bar. I have gone into safe mode and tried deleting it, same issue, it gets stuck there. I have played other 1080p files bigger than 8GB and they have run with no issues at all, so this file is just weird and corrupted. And now it won't get deleted I tried using file shredder and THAT also got stuck and went nowhere. I tried cut/paste the file into another external HDD and that also got stuck. I deleted some of them but still have windows.old and some of windows.old.000. I want to keep windows.old, but wish to delete all of windows.old.000. I have changed ownership of the folder and everything but am still not able to delete the folder. It continues to tell me I do not have permission to do this.

I did add a new asus mother board, a quad core processor 3.27, doubled the Ram, and put in a blue ray burner.After the upgrade was completed I waited for almost a week to make sure all was working well and then set out to delete the windows. old file. I did as was suggested and did it through disk cleanup. All looked like it was cleaned until I went into my C drive and see that the Windows.old folder is still there. I can't delete it. I just upgraded from Vista to 7 and am trying to delete my windows.old folder. However I am having trouble doing so. I keep getting messages saying I need permission from either trustedinstaller or system. I've tried to change the permissions by going to properties>security but I get an "Error Applying Security" access denied message every time. This also happens to me in safe mode as well.
