Reg Link here..Windows Explorer - Add or Remove Delete Button
So I have a few very small files that I want to delete but when I try, it says "used by Windows Explorer." But I know I run Command Prompt, but when I type in the file name, it says, it cannot be found. The harder problem is that I don't think Command Prompt recognizes the name...it's:
dddrkknghtrsssss72bd.dago (1) - Copy and dddrkknghtrsssss72bd.dago (1)
Which is why I cannot delete them through Command Prompt...I deleted others no problem as they have "regular" names...
I was attempting to export some links from FireFox to IE. It didn't work properly (no error messages). The error message when I attempt to delete the files says I can't delete the folder. That it can not be located
Usually, when you create/rename/delete a file/folder in the directory in Windows Explorer, it will add/renamed/remove automatically without refreshing. However, I have this issue where if you do any of the above, it doesn't refresh until you press F5. I tried to see if its a driver issue by booting into Safe Mode but it didn't work in there.
I go to tools, delete forms, history, and the rest, and there are about 20 websites in history that keep showing up when I go type a web address. I've tried CWShredder (says it doesn't exist on my computer). I've tried Spybot (which I did first) (showed coolwebsearch when it did a scan, then supposedly deleted it). I've tried Malware anti-bytes. I tried to try Stopzilla and Spyware Doctor, but they make you pay for it.
How can I possibly delete the history/ urls that keep showing up?
The file itself became inaccessible in windows explorer and i cant delete it. trying to open the folder it is in just times out (the progress bar in the file path just keeps going and going). The other files in the same folder work fine.
I tried to copy a file from a failing network drive to another nework drive, and the copy failed midway. Now when I right click on the destination file to attempt to delete it, explorer hangs. If I left click and press the "del" key, explorer hangs as well, and if I go to the command prompt and try to delete the file using the DOS "del" command, the process hangs as well.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. The file is obviously corrput, and I would like to get it off my drive.
Okay so I just tried to add a new network location in the My Computer.
I set the network address as \MYLAPTOP but the program didn't let me do that because I need to specify a folder. I don't want to specify a folder because I just want to use the root folder. So I then typed it as \MYLAPTOP\ with an extra slash at the end. The shortcut was made but it didn't work so I tried to remove it.
Now every time I press "delete" on the shortcut Explorer.exe crashes and restarts. I tried this in safe mode with and without internet access but it always crashed.
Now I'm just looking for a way to manually delete the icon through registry or some other editor.
how do i keep microsft explorer from trying to surf and find other providers and stay on one instead of showing every provider it can connect too ant2twon@yahoo.com
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?
I need to replace a W2K computer on a domain with a Windows 7 computer(laptop), but I want to keep the same computer name.I need the ip, username, profile to stay the same. Can I delete the computer from the domain and name the new computer that name I deleted and still keep the users profile on the new machine, as if it was the old one?
how to make W7 explorer display the file tree the same way that XP did? The W7 way is a total mishmash, IMHO. I can't understand the directory structure. The indentation on the display is very slight and hard to see so that it is very hard to tell where a subdirectory starts and ends. It takes a long time to fill in the file structure so that after several seconds, even minutes, the display is still jumping around. There are a lot of things that I like about W7 but this is NOT one of them. I use windows explorer a lot.
I thought I'd give the W8 consumer preview a go, not being that tech savvy (I'm not computer illiterate though) I think I've messed it up a bit.Now I want the space back, but CAN'T find the VHD partition in DISK MANAGEMENT on W7, but I CAN on W8.I've added print screens from both W7 and W8, the darker bars are W7, lighter W8.
I've just bought a Windows 7 computer and have loaded Norton 360, which I had already bought for my old XP machine. Is this OK to run with the pre-loaded Windows 7 anti-virus program? If not, is it possible to delete the Windows one? I would prefer to keep Norton.
I got a new SSD and I was able to migrate my OS to my new SSD. I was able to boot up from the SSD and everything (I pulled out my HDD and it booted off my SSD). Now, the problem is that I have a copy of Windows 7 on my old HDD and I can't get it off because of permissions issues (i'm running as admin).
I had some RAR files, which I extracted into a single 8GB 1080p movie file. Throughout the movie playback my PC lagged like it was 50 years old and the movie kept getting stuck at times. Now when I attempt to delete the movie file, it says recycling but it never goes any further on the green progress bar. I have gone into safe mode and tried deleting it, same issue, it gets stuck there. I have played other 1080p files bigger than 8GB and they have run with no issues at all, so this file is just weird and corrupted. And now it won't get deleted I tried using file shredder and THAT also got stuck and went nowhere. I tried cut/paste the file into another external HDD and that also got stuck. How the heck do I get rid of it? PC starts lagging a lot if I touch it. Will system restore remove it?I have: Windows 7 Ultimate Core2Duo 3.0ghz 4GB RAM Nvidia GTS 250
I upgraded form Windows Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. It must have not been a clean install bc i had several Windows.old folders. I deleted some of them but still have windows.old and some of windows.old.000. I want to keep windows.old, but wish to delete all of windows.old.000. I have changed ownership of the folder and everything but am still not able to delete the folder. It continues to tell me I do not have permission to do this.
All went well and I feel my computer is working better now than it ever did. I did add a new asus mother board, a quad core processor 3.27, doubled the Ram, and put in a blue ray burner. After the upgrade was completed I waited for almost a week to make sure all was working well and then set out to delete the windows. old file. I did as was suggested and did it through disk cleanup. All looked like it was cleaned until I went into my C drive and see that the Windows.old folder is still there. I can't delete it. I shows that it does the files do not exist on C: windows.old but the file is still there. There are three folder but nothing in any of the folders. How can I delete the foler windows.old. I've tried everything suggested but can't seem to find a way. I even went into the registry but can't find anything.
In my downloads folder, I had one folder of icons from an unziped zip file (clean of antivirus or spyware). Strange enough, I now cannot delete the actual folder and sub-folders! I even replicated this in safe mode too. I am on an admin account as well and have full permissions "all" on the folder.
Recently I decided to delete Ubuntu once and for all. To do this, I followed this tutorial: Partition or Volume Delete,However I cannot pass step5. Once I click "yes" I get the most retarded and frustrating error message I've ever seen in all my life (and I've seen lots of them),-"An unexpected error has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error. Close Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer."I closed an opened the program - it didn't work.I restarted the computer - it didn't work.I checked the Event Log - Lot's of random information and garbage over all.In order to fix the problem I spent the rest of the night searching for a solution, but my best friend Google has failed me, apparently no one has ever had this error before.... people usually get error codes or something similar to identify the errors ... but not me ... I guess I must be special .I've also decided to use diskpart and my good old friend - the command line. This is what I gotD
I just upgraded from Vista to 7 and am trying to delete my windows.old folder. However I am having trouble doing so. I keep getting messages saying I need permission from either trustedinstaller or system. I've tried to change the permissions by going to properties>security but I get an "Error Applying Security" access denied message every time. This also happens to me in safe mode as well.
I uninstalled my virtual Pc 2007 and windows xp mode from control panel.but Windows xp mode did stay into C:Program filesWindows XP ModeWhen i want to delete it with Shift + Del it says: "The Action Can't be completed because the file is open in another program, close the file and try again."When i to Right click on it, and select DELETE, it says: "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this file"I did uninstall the Windows Virtual PC update, i went in with administrator account, but still can't delete that.
