Connect Directly To Another Computer Without Using The Net?
Dec 19, 2011
i wish to be able to connect directly to another computer without using the net, a way to do it that will not use any of my download data or the data of anyone else, like putting in an IP and connecting so that we may share files?
I have been using my home internet in my new place for a couple of weeks fine, yesterday morning when I tried it it had the limited access yellow triangle and wouldnt connect.I reset the router and connected to the wifi on my iphone which worked fine, I checked the DNS numbers were the same as on my iphone which they were and I had not changed any settings. I spent the entire day yesterday online looking for solutions, Ive reset the adapter, disabled it etc, set the ip and dns to automatic and back again etc etc. When my wifi tries to connect to my home internet it takes a LONG time to identify and then identifies it either as an unidentified network and/or public. Even when I change it to home it changes it back to public or just doesnt let me change it to home and says try again later.
Ps- I just tried disabling then re-enabling the protocol 6 on the wifi which isnt working and it just said in order to configure TCP/IP, you must install and enable a network adapter card. But then it just let me configure it and is still connected but with limited access and public network.
After taking my hard drive and placing it from my good rig into my bad rig, my bad rig won't boot off of the hard drive, at first it was giving me bsod 0x0000007b, but now it won't even BSOD, it just restarts, tries to boot, does the animated logo for about two seconds, and then switches to Windows is now loading files, and then goes to restarting but then pulls up the startup repair / boot normal screen, now of course both of these do the same thing and just keep me in an endless restart loop
I have a windows 7 ultimate x32 installed on the C partition ... I've installed Ubuntu 11.04 on an other partition D it was ok but when I've restarted the computer it loads Windows 7 directly so I would like to know how to add Ubuntu to the boot list.
Very recently I started having a problem with the remote desktop where it says the following message:
"Your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress."
What I am trying to do is to access my Vista Ultimate computer using my Windows 7 Ultimate computer, and have been doing so this way for more than a year. All of a sudden I start getting the message that I have quoted. I do not know why it started doing that.As well, going in the Users tab of task manager you can see there that I am logged in as a console user.
Using windows backup, how can I back up directly to another drive WITHOUT creating the large "backup file" and then using restore on the file? I could copy the files over to another drive, but I want to retain the date modified/created data and copying over would just make a new copy and use the current date. I was thinking of cloning the disk but doesn't that clone the fragmentation and stuff as well?
If i receive a .ppt e-mail attachment, I cannot open it directly, but when I go into explorer file associations, all Powerpoint extensions are properly associated with Windows Power Point Viewer. If I go into Control Panel Default Programs,Powerpoint viewer is not even on the list.I can work around it by saving the attachment into a new folder, then opening Power Point Viewer, then opening the the saved file.I am using Microsoft Office Starter Edition. Is that the problem? I can download and install a new Powerpoint Viewer, but I hate to clutter up my computer when I already have the right program on hand
I have a friend with a mac laptop that I need to transfer roughly ~110 GB from. I have a laptop that dual boots Windows 7 and Kubuntu 12.10. Does anyone know the quickest and easiest way to directly transfer these files between our computers? Neither of us has a large enough external hard drive.
I don't like the way Windows 7 show me the "startup menu"... what I mean is I don't want to see the few software or document i've open recently when I press the "Windows icon" (aka Start).
I need to press "Show all programs" to see all my folder. Even if I go in the config of the toolbar, and I choose 0 to see the last program (by default is 10), it's only show a big white startup menu, but i need again to click (or leave my mouse for few second) the "show all program".
I just want to know of there is a way to see directly the "program" folder when I click the windows logo.
I wanted to open an excel file directly from IE9, but when I double click the excel file in the browser, it opens right in IE instead of Excel program. How do I make the file use Excel program to open rather than open in IE itself? I am using Windows 7 and Office 2010. I tried the Microsoft registry fix but still it doesn't work. And the folder options in Windows 7 doesn't have the "Advanced" option.
When opening pictures from a camera, I get that blasted viewer thing - it is impossible to make it use a photo program, until I copy the picture to the hard disk. Surely the camera is simply a USB memory stick when plugged in?
just use Windows 7 to connect to my buddy to give him some files or for him to give me files in a sort of FTP like environment??? any links to tutorials would be sufficient.
I just want to create access to one or more folders on my HDD to let my buddy access my offerings without sharing my whole system or HDD.
is there ANY way to get this job done without using a torrent client or uploading my files to a website?
months ago before changing a router I had an AP, and a 2nd router set as a Client Bridge, so pc's on one could detect pc's on the other. Can't recreate that for some reason [another long thread] but what I did get up and running is 2nd router in Client [wireless client] mode, so the 2nd router is pulling its internet access from the AP, but the addressing on the 2nd router is different [DHCP is enabled, and the router's ip is different: 192.168.2.1, whereas the AP is .1.1 and doles out its devices as .1.110 & up ... which is strange] So, I have a 7 pc behind the 2nd router [the client router] which is addressed as 192.168.2.122
how do I directly access that PC from one that is wirelessly connected to the AP [i.e. an address of 192.168.1.117] ??what's the syntax?
I've a question: is there a way to automatically bypass Windows 7 USB directly to XP? I need this to connect my sony ericsson phone in flash mode (connecting the phone to the usb port pressing "C" in the phone's keypad). Windows 7 fails to properly recognize the phone flashing mode.
I had installed windows 7 32 bit and it had compatibility issue with my Thomson Speedtouch since it doesnt have windows 7 driver I found a tweaked one online and was using it and it worked fine. Suddenly it stopped working and I formatted and reinstalled windows 7 but I was not able to connect the net. The message is always no valid IP configuration. I tried even with a router but the message is the same. So I installed XP on the other partition and I have no problem connecting to the net. Now I want to format the other partition and reinstall windows 7 but I am not able to format the partition from XP or with the installation CD for windows 7.With XP the format fails and with the installation DVD it always goes into BSD.What to do? On startup the previous installation of windows 7 doesnt even show up and goes directly into XP?!
I like to know if you can boot into Windows 7 and get directly to desktop if you have more then 1 user account? In other words can you by-pass having to choose a user account everytime you boot up?
Have a small home network that has 1 desktop, 3 laptops, and tablet PC. The laptops are wireless and use Vista Home Premium and Windows 7). The desktop is hooked directly to the router via Ethernet (an Acer the problem PC).The router is WRTU54G-TM with the latest firmware, with security on it set to WPA-Personal and TKIP encryption. It hooks into cable modem. The Acer has a NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet NIC that came with system. Driver is 73.0.6.0 dated 4/30/2009. The system is less than a year old. System is Acer AX3400G-U4802 bought from Wal-mart.Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit ssigned to same Workgroup as other PCs.The Acer had problems a month ago when the power went off and on a couple of times. It then would not display a screen on the monitor. The fan and system would come on but not beep. Sent it in to Acer and they returned it saying nothing was wrong. Was able to power it up initially, but then had the display issue again. After turning system off and on multiple times I got it to come up. It won't connect to the router. Doesn't see it. In the ipconfig it was giving a 169 IP address. Seeing that DHCP was not working, I manually changed the IP to what is needed to connect to the router and used the router's gateway IP. Still no joy. The NIC cable should be fine. Tried others. Same result.
I am ready to return it again to Acer and tell them about the Internet issue. Oh, by the way checked my wall outlets and all are getting enough juice. May have to invest in a backup power supply. Here is a detail of ipconfig that I have tried (can't do advanced Windows tricks as this is the Home Premium addition and Microsoft has dumbed it down ) :
=================== C:Windowssystem32>ipconfig /release (and the same message for ipconfig /renew) - Windows IP Configuration An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The sy stem cannot find the file specified.
I'm using Windows live mail. I'd like to know if there is a way I can add a shortcut to the start menu to start calendar instead of starting mail then clicking on calendar.
I have a computer where it keeps booting into the "System Repair" menu. It hasn't done this before.
Recently had lightning struck a transformer. Phones all rang and tv went bizzare! Lucky we had a surge protector.
Well...the computer wasn't doing this before. It use to boot fine but after the transformer problem it starts to boot. Then goes into a screen where it says "Launch System Repair" and "Start windows normally". Even if I select start windows normally it would still go into the system repair menu. I ran PC Check and my hardware all passed. My hard drive passed the SMART self extended test too.
Right now I'm booting off Hirens 15.1 into Mini XP.
I have two computers currently running Windows 7. -On both computers, I use an account with administrator privileges -On both computers UAC is set at the default level.
For some reason, on one computer I am capable of saving files on the C drive without having to run a program with UAC, but on the other computer this does not work. Similarly, if I right click on a program in my C drive and click "Create Shortcut" I receive the message "Windows can't create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?" What I'm trying to convey by point this out is this is not a problem that I have with a particular program, but an issue I'm experiencing with the operating system in general.
I assume I have a trojan which replaced a certain windows core DLL by a modified version. When I list all files in a directory (e.g. C:widnowssystem32) in Windows Explorer then certain files are not visible.Yes, I checked unhide hidden files on unprotect system files in WinExp options. So actually ALL files must be visible which is not the case.Is there a win-explorer-like tool which does not use this faked win
I'd love to find either a 'Sticky Note' utility, or any way to enable typing directly to the screen. Don't want to see a frame or title bar, just my typed notes
is it possible to boot windows directly from external HDD, not internal disk? (i have WD 500G) (because my internal disk is damaged..)i decided to install win 7 in the external HDD.
I'm running Word 2010 on Windows 7 x64. I've merged addresses in an Excel workbook to an envelope document using the standard mail merge wizard. I'd like to print these 10 at a time since that's all I can fit in my printer's feed tray. I click on Finish & Merge and then Print Documents and enter the range to print. Regardless of the starting record I enter, it always starts printing from the first record. I'm using an HP CP2025 Color LaserJet.
