Conextant Internal Laptop Soundcard
Aug 29, 2012
The problem occured last week while playing some moonbase alpha, my speakers basically cut out while playing however windows believes it is still outputting sound to them, if i plug a jack into either of the speaker or microphone jacks and remove it the problem is instantly fixed and sound continues as normal for up to around 10 minutes when it happens again.I can fix it again for 10 minutes by switching from the playback tab to the recording tab in the sound properties menu, i have tried reinstalling drivers that came with my laptop and drivers from other sources, i have tried drivers that are older than mine, i have also tried using the default driver windows 7 assigns it "intel HD audio" the device is shown as conexant smartaudio HD.I have tried my volumes, my balance and i have played about a little with the sound properties and with the smartaudio application.I have also tried restoring to an earlier point before the problem happened and before i even installed moonbase, windows troubleshooter reports no problems. I bought a new Dell XPS laptop about 2 months ago (I have filled out the system specs info on my profile here). I bought the laptop predominantly to use for making music, and also bought an external soundcard - Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6, which is a USB 2 device. The laptop has two USB 3 sockets and a USB/SATA socket as well. I had great difficulty getting the Komplete Audio 6 to work with the laptop, as I was unable to load the drivers using the USB 3 sockets (wouldn't recognise USB 2 for some reason). I eventually got it working by using the USB/SATA socket instead, which it is currently plugged into via a USB hub (along with my optical mouse). I was advised by other Komplete Audio 6 users to use a USB hub to avoid damaging the laptop. I also have a Yamaha midi keyboard plugged into one of the USB 2 sockets.
My problem is that I am getting regular Blue Screens, sometimes after a period of inactivity, though I cannot say 100% what triggers them. I am running Microsoft Security Essentials, and Spyware Blaster as antivirus programs. I've read the instructions on submitting BSOD files, and have attached mine here.

It's a dell latitude, 1 year old. Laptop suddenly crashed and when the laptop booted it said: "no boot sector on internal hard drive". I tried repairing the boot sector with the windows repair function, but the hard drive is just empty... nothing to repair. Then I tried to boot off a ubuntu live cd. which worked. and showed me an empty hard drive with the_maximum_capacity_of_the_drive_GB of unallocated space.
Since that I reinstalled windows 7 two times, and stopped working after an hour or so. I installed ubuntu, which worked for several days. then i tried windows 7 again (clean install). And then I kept working on the laptop for a couple of hours until the "crash" happened. All the programs stopped working suddenly. When I opened anything I was shown this error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."
After that everything is lost if I turn the computer off. And I'm back at an empty unformatted hard drive. I changed the sata operation mode in the bios to different options before every installation of windows. I didn't try xp, because I don't have dell-xp cd's . Is the hard drive broken? I guess not because ubuntu works. and windows 7 also, but it just goes away suddenly... Here's a video (shot in portraitmode) of the event... [URL].

I am using a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop. A few days ago, I noticed that my laptop has become incredibly slow (the system will hang sometimes, and continue as per normal after a while), and this coincided with my laptop beginning to make this weird, sharp beeping sound. At first I did not pay much attention to it, but later this was joined by several BSODs, and my laptop became even slower (games that usually did not lag was now hanging halfway through, and continuing as per normal after a lengthy period of 1 minute or so). I tried to find the origin of the noise, and I think it came from my Internal hard drive sector, and thus decided to open the sector up (in hindsight I probably should not have). After I replaced it, without doing much (just doing the usual IT-amateur stuff, wiping it and blowing it a few times), my situation has now worsened to the point that startup takes a much longer time, and finally now it hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen, but without the Windows 7 logo showing, and my screen later turns black.

Testplatform HP Pavilion DV-5 Entertainment Notebook PC (4GB RAM, 2GHz dual-core) with MicrosoftĂ‚® WindowsĂ‚® 7 7048 x64 and Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1.Driver:USB_W7DRVBETA_US_1_01_0091.exe. Tested with clean installed OS and only this driver. The Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 is connected with optical TOSlink to a 5.1 Pioneer reciever. There occures great (and increasing) latency while playback of videofiles.-Sound will very noticably loose sync from video within a minute (all filetypes, not a codec problem). The latency will not occure with the internal notebook speakers, nor on same system with MicrosoftĂ‚® WindowsĂ‚® Vista x86. The Notebook ships with HPs "AMD USB Filter Driver" that should improve the performance of USB accessories, such as USB speakers or a USB TV tuner. I have tried to install this also on the testplatform to resolve the problem, however even though it seems to install fine the latency/syncproblem still resists.

I recently purchased a 5.1 sound system, which I have connected to the S/PDIF output on my MB (Gigabyte Guerrilla) however my system seems insistent on sticking to a 2.1 output. A quick search shows that I should go into speaker setup, find the correct playback device and reconfigure it; however when I go to this page the option to configure is greyed out so I cant use it!I have gone through the properties page and when I do the supported format tests sound is done through all connected speakers so I know they can physically receive a signal.Does anyone have ideas as to why the configure option is greyed out? I am on an administrator account and UAC is turned off.

I recently made a major upgrade (from a 6-7 year old mobo and processor to a Asus p8z68-v gen 3 and and i5 2500k) and i had to install a fresh copy of windows 7 professional (32bit). Windows does not recognize my steelseries usb sound card and shows it as a "USB PnP Sound Device" in the device manager. I have not had much time to test it, but so far i did not have any major problem with sound (microphone works fine too) except that it might be a little low quality and i hear a cracking sound from time to time (not often). What bugs me is that this sound card was properly recognized in my old computer (with the exactly same windows) and i do not remember putting much effort into it back then. This computer has no problem identifying my mouse (logitech g3) and my DVD-drive both of which are using USB. Also, I am only using the usb ports on the back of the PC (the ones that sit directly on the mobo).
What i have tried so far: Getting all the windows updates Installing all the drivers from the CD that followed with my mobo Updating the asus chipset driver. Installing usb sound card drivers from the steelseries site Uninstalling the sound driver that came with the Nvidia card (i have a inno3d gtx 550 Ti with 296.10 driver version) Disabling on-board sound from bios Using another usb port (switched to a port that my mouse previously used) Manually installing steelseries drivers through the device manager
It really bugs me that this exact same soundcard with the same drivers worked properly in my old windows computer (same windows 7 32bit professional). It would be nice to get a fresh pair of eyes on this problem, maybe do some diagnostics?

Got a P5K-E Wifi/Ap motherboard, which according to the specifications got an ADI® AD1988B onboard soundcard. Just wondering where i could get drivers for this soundcard? When i enabled it through the BIOS, Windows 7 automatically installed some drivers, and in the volume control panel it's called "High Definition Audio Device" only.
Reason am looking for some drivers, is because i was hoping there would be some sort of audio managament software that came with it, similar to the "Creative Console Launcher" that you can download for Creative based soundcards.

I can't seem to find any working solution to properly install named Soundcard under Windows 7/64. I know its a driver problem on behalf of the Souncard manufacturer. Can Microsoft not make a generic driver to fix this? The chipset used on this Terratec is a commonly used soundcard chipset if I'm not mistaken. Surely MS can conjure up a driver that will work and not let my Soundcard crash the whole PC just bc I want to listen to some music?

How can I setup a simple client-to-server audio-streaming solution that will take mear minutes to setup? I want people to be able to play their music using whatever program or web-site they want over the local network to the stationary computer connected up to my sound-system.
I found something about Virtual Audio Cable & Axia IP-Audio Driver but VAC is a bit to complex for me to set up and Axia's IP-Audio Driver is impossible to find. Anyone got a solution to this?

My front speaker pin (the green one) is ruined. When I plug my headphones into any other pin, the sound will not work. I know it's possible to change pin assignments with realtek, I used to do it through their software. IDT however allows no such thing through their control panel. Is there any other way to change it? I'm using an integrated sound processor Intel Dp35dp and Windows 7 x32bit

so i was trying to change my sound card, but the new sound card wasn't compatible with my computer. So i went ahead and put my old sound card back in, screwed everything back on. turned on my computer, and next thing i know it says, "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". All i did was try to change the sound card. I don't think i unplugged anything else or moved anything around. I made sure everything was in securely too.

I have done a quick search and found a few topics on this, but none of them really covered what i was after.
Basically i have Win 7 Pro, x64.... All my other drivers installed lovely apart from my soundcard. If i use Windows 7 to update my soundcard drivers i can't get any Bass, although i can still hear sound.
I have downloaded, installed and uninstalled every driver thats on the web, including the ones from Creative but still no luck.
Could some one point me in the place where a driver WILL WORK. I have 5.1 surround sound (Although this wont effect the driver).

I am adding a drive and would like some opinions.
3.07 gigahertz Intel Core i7 950
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P6T DELUXE V2
12280 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
C: drive- WDC WD3000HLFS-01G6U1 ATA Device [Hard drive] (300.07 GB)
E: drive- WDC WD1500HLFS-01G6U1 [Hard drive] (150.04 GB)
2 x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 [Display adapter] in SLI
Windows 7 Professional (x64) Service Pack 1
adding Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive
Model ST1000DM003SATA- 6Gb/s- 1TB- 7200rpm- bare drive
Gaming use (BF3) mainly with media/MS Office stuff secondary.
1) Do you think it would be best to use this new drive as C: or main drive? Or to use it as storage and keep C: as is?
2) If used as main drive, are there issues installing Win7 on it and already having a Win7 install on another hard drive?
3) suggested improvements for video card upgrade.

I have a three yr old hp Pavillion desktop. HD has totally conked out. Was going to just get a new one, but was wondering about the feasibility, and ease, of just replacing the HD. What am I letting myself In for ?
It looks like it will cost me around $ 100 to buy a new drive, so it will be a pricey experiment if it does not work out. Lost a lot of the paperwork, so am not fully sure as to what,is in it now. I looked inside, and apparently it is a Seagate 1 TB drive. 7200 rpm. SATA, 3 GB/sec
Has the dimensions of approx. width of 4 inches and depth of 6 inches. Is this what is called a 3-1/2 inch drive ? So, what do you think ? Worth a try ?
Will the electronics in this 3 yr old pc support a new hd with its built in new electronics O.K. ?
If I decide to try just replacing the drive, what should I buy ? What should I be aware of In regards to buying a hd for my old pc ? And, do they come pre-formatted ? If not how is this handled ?
Are there still master-slave jumpers that need to be set on the new hd ? After installation, do,I just run the "Restore" disk set of 3 disks to get Windows 7 on it again ? Do these restore disks that I created when I first got the pc have Windows 7 already on it ?
Not all that sharp with this stuff, but am a retired Engr., so reasonably comfortable with this kind of thing. Still, I would not really want to dump $100 if there are lots of potential pitfalls and caveats I am not considering.

When I try to install the 2nd 3TB one and go into Disk Management to create the partitions, it only shows this 4th HD as being 746.52GB! In fact, I have already returned one to the store thinking there was something wrong with the drive but obviously it was not
