Chkdsk Error At Startup
Dec 17, 2009
I upgraded from Vista to Win 7 using the HP upgrade disk. About every 2 weeks chkdsk will start at startup. The countdown won't stop and I can't skip it by pressing any key. When it counts down to 1 it freezes and I had to press the power button to restart. Then when it restarts the problem reoccurs.
In the past if I press F8 and choose last known good configuration, the system will normally boot. And then I'll schedule a disk check next time I start the computer and this will normally fix the problem. There won't be any check disk error in 2 weeks.
But this time no matter what I do I can't get it fixed. sfc /scannow didn't find any errors. I ran the system repair by pressing F8 at startup and it said it fixed the startup problems. But the disk check I scheduled at startup still won't run properly. It shows up and then disappears without actually doing anything.
I'm using Avira now but the problem was there when I was using Avast. I don't know what might be causing the problem.

I have CHKDSK running at startup and when the "press any key to skip in..." prompt appears the system freezes completely when the counter reaches 1. If I press any key the system freezes instantly. I did a chkdsk /r in repair console and it did not found any problems, but the startup chkdsk prompt won't go away.
Is it possible to disable the chkdsk autostart with repair console or startup repair? System is running 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate and hard drive in question is 5x 500 GB RAID5 array.

I'm facing some problems with my C drive. Errors were said to be found in C drive during Error checking. However, I could not auto fix system errors when C drive is in use. Thus I've assigned a chkdsk upon start up. Here's the catch, the Chkdsk appeared for a sec and was automatically terminated abnormally by the system itself. I've tried to system restore, but was prompted that there's error, so I can't restore the system. I didn't have much knowledge regarding the backing up of the system, thus i did not create any backup entries. I'm using Lenovo Win7 Laptop, 64 bit.

I have not seen the problem but according to phone conversations when she turns the PC on she gets a black screen with a message that the file system is being checked, but the checking stops with an "unknown error", the black screen flashes and then she gets to her normal log-in screen. This has been going on for a few weeks (ARRRGGHH). The only reason she called me was that she lost internet connectivity this morning.I had her login, open a command prompt, and type in CHKDSK /f but the system returns an ACCESS denied and says she need elevated credentials to run this. As I said she is the only user and she is listed as an administrator under account controls. I had her create a new user account with administrator privileges but NO JOY she still cannot run CHKDSK /f.This is sounding a bit like a virus but I was wondering if anyone had some thoughts on why, or how, administrator privileges are being overridden?

My laptop has been running extremely slowly lately. It takes longer than usual to load regular programs and any web browser activity takes ages. I have run malware (Malwarebytes) and virus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) and removed some items. Malwarebytes didn't detect much, but I found a trojan with Security Essentials. However, after removal my problems persist. I have scanned and attempted recovery of bad sectors. Issues were found and fixed, but a disk check was said to be necessary. I tried running chkdsk c: /F, but the disk check cancelled within a fraction of a second on startup.

I'm using a fairly new laptop, had it for less then a yr. It came w/ Vista and I never had to use Chkdsk on it. I used the Windows 7 upgrade disc about 3 weeks and upgraded to Windows 7 w/ no issues. Love it so far.Today my computer froze while shutting down. I had to hold the power button to turn it off. I then wanted to chkdsk, but it will not run suppostedly because "due to recent software installation" and it gives me error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1.

Wanna start off by saying sorry if someone has already resolved this problem on another thread but I have read many and haven't found a problem that exactly matches mine.Ok here goes, I have a Dell Inspiron 1764 running on Windows 7 64 bit. I've had problems with this pc for months in that it suddenly lost masses of disk space and because of this I couldn't update any programs or even renew my McAfee which I gAfter some investigative work with help online I found that my 'My Music' and 'My Pictures' folders were located on the C drive and taking up a lot of space so I relocated these onto the D drive. This seemed to solve the problem, the C drive was clearer and everything was working fine, security checked for viruses and all seemed to be in order.
That lasted for about 4 days and then yesterday the laptop randomly crashed and then restarted and it appeared to be ok, I continued using with no problems and switched off as normal. I tried to boot on again last night only for it to hang on the Starting Windows screen, didn't even reach log in. It went to a black screen and then something else came up and asked if I wanted to Start Normally or in Safe Mode, I chose Safe Mode.Nothing happened for a while and then it went into CHKDSK but sat at 3% for about 2 hours saying loads of files were unreadable, it finally got to 30% after 6 hours but by then it was 1 in the morning I had to manually turn the pc off.I tried again this morning and had the same error but it automatically goes into CHKDSK, after about 5hrs it got to 55% and then went back to the Starting Windows screen, black screen and the CHKDSK again, this has happened 3 times now.
I've tried pressing F8 & F12 when first booting up and I've also inserted the Windows Installation Disk but this won't run. I gave up and switched off again, went through the same process but when it got to CHKDSK I pressed to cancel the check but it just sat there for 25mins and then asked me to choose Safe Mode etc, I choose SM again and it started to load files and has been sat at Loading Windows Files for the last 15 mins.

I've tried waiting for it to finish up which took a couple of hours but go a BSOD moments after trying to login through windows so after it restarted I canceled the CHKDSK this time and was able to get through windows but everything was running very slow that I could barely open My Computer.

I have an unspecified error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1 (yes there is a gap before the 3f1). I have tried but the above error occurs. HDD is C: drive NTFS system. Reason I'm worried is that sfc /scanow returned nothing, but windows backup returned quite a few lines similar to the following....
- Windows Backup skipped C:UsersxxxxxDocuments because is it on corrupted drive C:.
- Windows Backup skipped c:UsersPublicvideos because is it on corrupted drive C:.
- Windows Backup skipped c:UsersxxxxxAppDataLocalLow because is it on corrupted drive C:.

If chkdsk will not run when you click error check at Computer, what is the command prompt that will do it instead.I am looking for the two replacements only. One is the default with one check at computer and the second is if you were to insert a check at the default at computer. When I surf for this I get too much information rendering it useless to me at my level.

This morning while i was watching a movie from my Toshiba 500GB external hard drive, there was a windows update going. Because of the lagging due to the update and all, I restarted it after the update is done while my ext. HD is still connected to the computer.
After restarting, somehow I can't seem to access my ext. HD even though the HD is detected. The HD somehow became a "Local Disk K:" and everytime i try clicking it a pop-up telling me that "K is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect".
I googled the problem and found one solution that told me to run a CHKDSK on the command prompt. I ran a "chkdsk /r K:" but then got stuck on the "stage 3 of 5" where the chkdsk is verifying Usn journal. This has been going on for 5 hours and the cursors still blinking.
I can access my HD again? Does the verifying Usn journal really do take this long?

I started a chkdsk on a Windows 7 64bit computer that got stuck at startup repair. Before that though, I was looking around, the damage seems to be the windows files got messed up after an update. My computer data was intact when I looked around booted through a recovery cd and I checked again via a ubuntu live cd. My question is that the chkdsk d: /f apparently stopped in the middle and gave the following message:An unspecified error occurred <6672732e637878>Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50What does that mean? Is it terrible? I just restarted the chkdsk anyway and as of now, it is finding less unreadable segments, but is there a risk of data loss?

I am struggling to fix the error that I get upon startup on my Toshiba Satellite L655 which Reads"RunDLLError in C:Users(my name)AppDataRoamingactxprxy1.dllMissing entry:IgwqI just realized that this isn't referencing actxprxy.dll - it has a "1" stuck in there which is raising a red flag for me and may be why all my google searches come up empty.I have updated windows, which I didn't update currently because I keep it up to date, I have run Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool which found nothing, I have run Malwarebytes which found nothing I have of course run my current anti-virus, malware, registry cleaner software and it says all is good too. Nothing is running poorly on my computer but I am starting to think that there was something that happened and my computer was able to remove it but maybe not all of it or there are damaged files from it? I am not super computer saavy but I do pretty well and can definately can follow good directions.

When I startup the system (either cold boot or reboot), I get a number of error message boxes. Just have to click them away--no further messages or problems until I restart the computer again. Error messages (in order) follow:
Runtime error 217 at 0040900B
Runtime error 217 at 0018900B
Yes, there are duplicates and they all share "900B"--what might this refer to? I have a brand-new HP Pavilion e9280t 64-bit with 12 gbs of RAM. I do not have Norton Antivirus installed--deleted and replaced with McAfee. Most software programs have been installed to a separate partition--E:Program Files or E:Program Files (x86).
As said before, error messages cause no problems, just curious as to what they refer to.

I'm having a major problem booting up my PC. I keep getting the error message "mbr error 1 Press any key to boot from floppy" every time I reboot my PC. The PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and everything was working fine until I started to do some cleaning up in preparation for moving my OS from an existing HDD to a new SSD. My PC has a Gigabyte X58A-UD3r motherboard. I cleaned up my files using Windows System Cleanup and also defragmented the C: drive. All of this seemed to go successfully. On rebooting my PC, and with the SSD installed in an external caddy connected via eSata (because I wanted to clone my existing C: drive across to it to avoid a new installation of Windows 7), I entered BIOS and changed the SATA from IDE to AHCI. (As far as I am aware I didn't change anything else). Then I booted up the PC and got the error suggesting that there was mbr error 1 etc.I turned off the PC and went back into BIOS and reset the SATA back to IDE, and rebooted. Same error. I tried rebooting a number of times - no success.I then put my Windows 7 installation disc into the DVD drive and rebooted from the DVD (after selecting the DVD drive as the boot option in the BIOS startup). It seemed to boot up right into some version of Windows (note: it did not ask me if I wanted to install or repair windows; it just came up with a standard Windows 7 wallpaper and nothing else). I rebooted again, with the Windows 7 disc in the DVD drive, but when it asked me if I wanted to boot from DVD, I just let it run - and it booted up my Windows as normal. But when I tried and reboot without the DVD in the drive and with the HDD boot option as the primary boot, it still gave me the mbr error.

My computer had a virus in it a while ago and I managed to remove it by deleting a fake win32dll.exe which seemed to be running a .txt document in AppDatalocalTemp.Anyway all seemed fine until I tried to access my control panel when I received an error saying explorer.exe not found. I could not access any keyboard, mouse or sound settings. Again I fixed this by running a 'sfc scannow' in cmd.So to my current problem, sometimes when I start the computer the fan won't turn off and it beeps 6/7 times. Sometimes it starts fine but my graphics drivers don't load properly and i have a small display and my 2nd monitor isn't recognised. I think it has something to do with an error message that pops up everytime on start-up being:There was a problem starting C:Users*me*AppDataLocalTemp1726681.txt The specified module could not be foundTo clarify; My control panel now works and I am virus free but it seems to have left some damage (seems to be with either the .dll files or in the registry). I believe the error message above is affecting my startup and causing the graphics driver problems which resolves itself eventually.

The box has an 'OK' button and an x in the top right, I just hit 'OK' and the box goes away and doesn't bug me, but I wish to have it stop, since it kinda worries me that it may be a larger problem that may slowly get bigger.

I have recently been getting an error stating that \3\DLCQtime.dll could not be loaded because "the specified module could not be found". I am not sure what this file is or how I can fix this error.I am running Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop which is about a year old.Recently I reinstalled my video drivers, removed my sound card, and ran Quicktime repair because of BSOD I was having. I am not sure if any of these could be related, but these seemed to start around the time I removed my sound card This could have been coincidental. Also, I have run Malwarebytes, Spybot, and Windows Security Essentials in an attempt to find any suspicious activity which may be causing this.

But when I tried and reboot without the DVD in the drive and with the HDD boot option as the primary boot, it still gave me the mbr error. So I booted once again with the Windows DVD, and created a Windows Repair Disc. I rebooted with this and attempted to carry out a MBR repair (using the CMD line: bootrec.exe /fixmbr - which indicated that it ran successfully). I rebooted the PC - still got the mbr error.
I rebooted with the repair disc again and ran: bootrec.exe /fixmbr, and bootrec.exe /fixboot, and bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd. They all seemed to run successfully - but on reboot I still got the mbr error.I also downloaded and rebuilt the MBR using the MBR rebuild utility on Partition Wizard Mini Tool - it still hasn't solved the problem.
I also tried to recover using a previous backup of my C: drive (one created yesterday before I did any clean up or defragmentation, but I am not sure if it had the MBR backed up) - it restored OK, but didn't solve the error.I also ran chkdsk on my C: drive - it suggested that the drive was clean with no errors.
So at the moment the only way I can boot up my PC is to have the Windows 7 installation disc in the DVD drive and have the DVD drive selected as the first boot device (even though I don't subsequently press any button to boot from the DVD) - it just seems to force it to get around the mbr error somehow.

a few days ago when I started my PC, windows went into startup repair, I let it run a few times and about by the fourth retry I realized something was wrong. I restarted my computer and tried again, same thing. I managed to get into system restore by clicking cancel before system repair could start and going into advanced options. I restored my system to an earlier point, but to no avail. I inserted my windows 7 home premium 64bit SP1 OEM disc (built my PC) into my optical drive and went into system repair(on disc). An error message appeared saying how the disc is incompatible with my version of windows. I looked up this on my laptop and managed to fix it by changing the startup order through the BIOS. I tried system repair and system restore through the disc but still no change. After hours of trying to fix this, windows system repair finally admitted it couldn't repair my system and restarted my system. Rather than windows going into system repair I got an error message saying something like 'Driver (I forgot) is not certified, windows driver signing is blocking this from starting'. This lead me to believe that turning off driver signing would allow me to fix this. I searched for a way to turn off windows driver signing or system repair, and have tried many ways through CMD to fix this. I have tried hitting F5 (Asus mobo) to get into the startup options but are only given two options, either run windows(starts system repair) or run memory diagnostics(already run 3 times).I don't have a system image to restore to, and since I'm on my computer every day, moving back my system a month or even week a ago would cause so many problems.

HP laptop-10 days old with an error message from the 3rd day when I start-up the computer reading:
Mom.exe fatal error; CLR error:80004005, "The program will now terminate". I then click the ok button.
I went to the ATI website and downloaded the latest driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 with no luck. Also ran a system file check showing no integrity violations.
Tech support at HP recommends to run the recovery program which will eliminate all the information and programs that I have on the system bringing it to the new condition when I purchased it.
Windows 7 Home; 64 bit. Before I run the recovery program I'm searching for a solution. Also I'm not confident the recovery program will fix the problem.
