Oct 14, 2010I received my sony vaio 15.5 eb series i3-370m laptop today. However, the left click on touchpad right clicks. Support told me its a hardware issue that cannot be fixed and that they can send someone over. Also, if i want to close the firefox window... pressing the left or right click works which is a problem with this touchpad. The scrolling of the touchpad however has no problem though. Would you guys suggest i sent this laptop back instead? If they send someone to come and repair it, they would have to open the laptop and i don't think that is good for the long run of Should i just request a new one instead?I would assume i don't have to pay the extra $50 now correct? The battery life i notice is around 2 hours just web browsing. I am thinking if i should just return it and get a sager 5135 because i heard battery life is 3 hours and it offers 1080P. But i know that laptop does not look as good as a sony one. I will mainly play online poker with applications on it and browse and listen to music.I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows explorer. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now.Someone said this is a setting issue but i did everything with settings and it doesn't work. Sony support though say this is a a hardware issue and because when i plug an external mouse and it works perfectly fine, its the hardware and i would need to have a sony technician come over.Would you say my buttons work fine based on what is happening? I have checked the settings for it and everything is fine. This is so frustrating.

Sep 6, 2011I just replaced the hard drive in my daughter's laptop and reloaded windows 7 using the disk that came with the computer. I have another laptop that has a side by side configuration problem. on the Vista forum BUT since it will not allow me to get on the internet, I can't download anything that may help.
SO, my question is: If I back up the hard drive and wipe it can I install (replace) windows 7, using the disk that came with the other laptop, in place of Vista?

I even had a live chat w/ support and they said since my computer was no longer under warranty I had to pay for extended cust. serv. He said it was an issue w/ the upgrade but refused to give me any more details. I've been in the device manger and checked for driver updates but it says the drivers are up to date. Every key but my Eject key works. Even the volume buttons right next to the eject button!

Dec 13, 2012I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.

Sep 1, 2012I have a Sony VAIO notebook, Model VGN-AR52DB, which I bought in Japan about 5 years ago. The computer has an Intel Core 2 CPU; T5500 @ 1.66 GHz; 2046 MB RAM; 32 bit OS; Direct X 10; Phoenix NoteBIOS 4.0, Release 6.1.I've never used the computer much, mainly because it runs Vista (Home Premium), which I don't like. The computer is still in great shape, so I was thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 (or maybe 8?).
The Microsoft website tells me that if I want to run Windows 7, I need a 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) processor; 1 GB RAM; and DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.So it looks like the computer will handle Windows 7. Right? (But I'm not sure what the "WDDM 1.0" signifies....) My main question is this: Given the above-mentioned specs, would Windows 7 (either Home Premium or Professional) run alright on my Sony VAIO VGN-AR52DB? Also, for the new Windows 8, the minimum hardware requirements also appear to be IA-32 architecture; 1 GHz (with PAE, NX and SSE2 support) processor; 1 GB RAM; and DirectX 9 graphics device, again "with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver." Here, I'm not sure what the "with PAE, NX and SSE2 support" means.
Question #2: Would Windows 8 also run on my machine and, if so, would it be better to wait and get Windows 8, or just go with Windows 7?

May 5, 2009I recently installed build 7100 of Windows 7. I have had it for a few days, and decided to install Halo PC. When I popped the CD into my DVD Drive, the auto-run didn't start. So I decided to double click on the DVD icon in My Computer.
My PC froze up and I had to restart my computer. Going into device manager, I'm told that my DVD drive works perfectly. But when I try to click on "Properties", the Device Manager window freezes (it is still frozen and running in the background while I am writing this post).
Is it a driver problem? Or is there some fix I need to download?
This problem also happened to me back when I installed build 7000. In between then and now I have been using XP.
Edit: It seems to be an on/off thing, because it is working now.

Oct 7, 2011So I bought the windows upgrade CDs to upgrade my vista PC's to 7. (Big mistake) Wiped out the HD and did the entire install. But every time I open up a video on my WMP it starts to play then stops. The PC then opens up a SV Host program that uses up 80% of the processor. So I have no video playing and my PC won't hardly work at all till I cntrl alt del and close the SV host.
What can I do to make this OS work correctly? The PC is an HP m9500z.

Jul 22, 2012I recently purchased an Acer Aspire for the business & I was very specific at time of purchase that it must NOT run Vista as the accounting software I run is not compatible with Vista.
All went well for about a month & then the accounting software started to play up. I contacted their tech support people & they talked me through a few fixes however during these fixes we discovered latent COMPATIBILITY FOLDERS on the computer that simply should not be on a machine unless it is running Vista. I contacted the store I bought it from & they admitted that it had originally come with Vista but had been upgraded to run Windows 7 Home Premium prior to purchase. He told me to come in & they would remove the components that had not been removed properly during upgrade.
I was unable to go in that day but told them to expect me within a day or two at the most however before I could get back (the following night in fact) the computer ran some scheduled updates from Microsoft & when I went to use it the next day it was all sorts of wrong! It didn't even look the same (desktop) & files were missing or moved. When I went to online help I kept getting diverted to Vista help rather than Windows 7 help. I contacted the computer store again & they said that the update may have found these compatibility folders & freaked out & reverted the machine back to Vista.??
Anyway, I have lost loads of files that I had not yet backed up as I was planning to do this immediately prior to taking the laptop back to the shop so I had everything backed up & my accounting software won't work. The shop said they can restore Windows 7 but probably can't restore any lost data as they are only retail...
2. Is my data lost forever or can it be restored by a computer repair technician?
