May 5, 2009I recently installed build 7100 of Windows 7. I have had it for a few days, and decided to install Halo PC. When I popped the CD into my DVD Drive, the auto-run didn't start. So I decided to double click on the DVD icon in My Computer.
My PC froze up and I had to restart my computer. Going into device manager, I'm told that my DVD drive works perfectly. But when I try to click on "Properties", the Device Manager window freezes (it is still frozen and running in the background while I am writing this post).
Is it a driver problem? Or is there some fix I need to download?
This problem also happened to me back when I installed build 7000. In between then and now I have been using XP.
Edit: It seems to be an on/off thing, because it is working now.
Sony Vaio Laptop Left And Right Click Buttons Don't Work?
Oct 14, 2010I received my sony vaio 15.5 eb series i3-370m laptop today. However, the left click on touchpad right clicks. Support told me its a hardware issue that cannot be fixed and that they can send someone over. Also, if i want to close the firefox window... pressing the left or right click works which is a problem with this touchpad. The scrolling of the touchpad however has no problem though. Would you guys suggest i sent this laptop back instead? If they send someone to come and repair it, they would have to open the laptop and i don't think that is good for the long run of Should i just request a new one instead?I would assume i don't have to pay the extra $50 now correct? The battery life i notice is around 2 hours just web browsing. I am thinking if i should just return it and get a sager 5135 because i heard battery life is 3 hours and it offers 1080P. But i know that laptop does not look as good as a sony one. I will mainly play online poker with applications on it and browse and listen to music.I just talked to support and did trouble shooting and installed a driver. What is funny now is that the left and right click buttons don't even work anymore. However, the left click and button button works if i click on those items on my taskbar such as internet explorer and windows explorer. But if i click it a 2nd time, a new explorer will show up. I cannot click on anything besides those 3 items on my taskbar with the left/right click now.Someone said this is a setting issue but i did everything with settings and it doesn't work. Sony support though say this is a a hardware issue and because when i plug an external mouse and it works perfectly fine, its the hardware and i would need to have a sony technician come over.Would you say my buttons work fine based on what is happening? I have checked the settings for it and everything is fine. This is so frustrating.

I installed 32 bit Win 7 and discovered that i not longer can play Bluray Disks on it because the driver for the Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT is not compatible with Win7. I have installed "generic" Nvidia (but non-Sony sanctioned) drivers from several sites (using the modified .inf file)to no avail. I still cannot play BD movies. So "the one and only" source for an update to this driver is Sony and the say that they are no supporting this model (VGN-AR630E) for the Win7 transition.

May 5, 2012Win7 64 wont start on a Sony Vaio. It will sometimes get to the desktop and seconds later it shuts down. No logout, just a black screen total shutoff. when restarted the black screen popped up again but this time it was with the message "windows failed to start" and the options were either "launch startup repair" or start windows normally. I chose "launch startup repair".
The startup again goes to the immediate shutdown, more quickly each time it is tried. I have gotten into safe mode and performed a memory and disk check which were ok. It seems to go farther into the startup after it has been shutdown for a while.
Windows 7 Reinstall On Sony Laptop?
Apr 16, 2012I bought a Vaio laptop when working in Germany with Win 7 Home Premium. The reinstall on this would be from an install partition and in german. I upgraded to german Ultimate by buying a DVD and installing the English language pack. Its time to do a clean reinstall.
Before taking the plunge would anybody know if there is the option to install ultimate direct from the DVD in English or do i have to follow the above tortuous route.

Jun 24, 2010I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 that has 2 x 64 GB SSD hard disks that are arranged in a RAID 0 config. When installing Windows 7, the files are copied and the computer reboots, but when it reaches 85% on the Completing Installation screen, the laptop will power off. I have checked to make sure that the power adapter is plugged into a working power source, checked the battery, and even opened up the laptop to make sure that the cooling fan is working, but it still shuts off at that point. I have also disabled the RAID and tried running the Windows 7 install off of a USB drive, but it still shuts down at the same point.

Feb 13, 2011One day when all my laptops performance was very fast and such, windows failed to start...and 15 16 times in row it failed...My laptop is Sony Vaio VPCF11Z1E btw - i7 8Gb ram bla bla bla basically it has almost top performance hardware. i said ok and removed my personal data with the help of recovery center and using recovery discs i reinstalled w7 (which is home premium btw). Anyway for 2 days it was ok STİLL SLOW but at least managable...but now it takes minimum 5 minutes to start-up.. another 4 minutes to load taskbar , desktop stuff...my antivirus (avira antivirus) keeps shutting down and start up again.. double clicking a file is like 3 minutes to open. and when i try to browse the web (doesn't matter if its chrome opera firefox happens to all) it just not responding ASAP. i mean its brandly new installed windows and its like a billion times slower performance...i dont understand why...i saw people posting messages on forums with same kind of problem and i tried basically EVERYTHİNG i saw as a suggestion..my startup is not full at all ...i turned off the ones that i dont need on startup. i mean nothing can cause any problems..checked everything on task schedule and all that ...even now i've been writing this post over 34 minutes (keeps giving "not responding" for 3 mins and giving me 45 seconds to 1 minute to type).basically its this.
- pressing power button to turn on
- windows logo....now this takes minumum 4 5 minutes
- Welcome screen ....3 - 4 minutes minimum
- desktop bacground screen ..4 to 6 minutes
i mean what the hell i had that process under 2 minutes not 2 3 weeks ago and i just cant get this thing figured.
