Dec 7, 2009Anyone know the work-around in getting Vista Winmail to work on Windows 7 Home prem 64bit? I got it to work on a Windows 7 32bit Home Prem but fails on a 64bit sys.

Feb 21, 2011I am using Windows 7 Professional on an HP Envy laptop.I hate windows live mail.I do have Office 2010 installed and only use the contacts and calendar programs.I do not use Outlook.I have copied Vistas Winmail.exe program to Win 7 and reinstalled all my mail and settings from before with no problem. It works and I am reasonably happy. However, I cannot set it to default for .eml or mailto: links. I have been to the Control Panel and Default Programs.looked in "Set your default programs" and Windows Mail is not an option. It does not appear there at all.been to "Set program access and computer defaults" and set it as default under Custom.I tried going to the "Associate a file type or protocol with a program", found the .eml and mailto links and tried to change the program associated to Winmail.exe by browsing to the file and selecting it. But the file is grayed out and cannot be accepted as a change. The WinMail.exe file is also grayed out when you browse to it in Explorer, as it is a hidden file.

I even had a live chat w/ support and they said since my computer was no longer under warranty I had to pay for extended cust. serv. Dec 13, 2012I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.

Oct 7, 2011So I bought the windows upgrade CDs to upgrade my vista PC's to 7. (Big mistake) Wiped out the HD and did the entire install. But every time I open up a video on my WMP it starts to play then stops. The PC then opens up a SV Host program that uses up 80% of the processor. So I have no video playing and my PC won't hardly work at all till I cntrl alt del and close the SV host.
What can I do to make this OS work correctly? The PC is an HP m9500z.

Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs.Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

Like a dolt, I installed Wondows 7 before I remembered it was an upgrade edition. Go From 32 Bit Vista To 64 Bit Windows 7?
May 6, 2012I am trying to go from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7.
The 32 bit Vista was installed by mistake. My system can handle a 64 bit OS. Now I have finally found the time to upgrade. But the 64 bit intallation DVD can't be read from my OS.
I have tried setting up my CMOS so that I can boot from the DVD but I have run into some issues. First of all, when I look at my keyboard during the boot procedure, I noticed that the little light which indicates that one row of buttons are to be used for F1 - F12 keys, the little green led light goes on and off. Sometimes, during the boot process, it is on, sometimes it is off.
The CMOS procedure tells me I can hit F12 and set the boot order. I can hit F12 but when I go into that menu, I notice my keyboard is dead. The CPU does not accept any commands from me. So I need to power off and power on and try again.
The CMOS procedure tells me I can hit DEL and that launches the whole CMOS utility. There I can set the boot order so that the DVD is run first. But when I save and exit, I notice my keyboard is dead again. This time, the screen is showing things being set and loaded and I am prompted to hit any key to show I am sure that I want to boot from the DVD. I hit the Y key and I hit the spacebar, but it becomes clear that my input is ignored since my keyboard is being ignored. And the ol' Vista OS is loaded.
Is there any way to set things up in the VISTA OS to force a boot from the DVD? I guess I can load the OS in save mode and format the C drive, but if I do that I might risk having a dead computer since the CMOS does not seem to be trusting enough to boot from the DVD drive even if you tell it to.

Feb 2, 2012I am trying to do an upgrade from Vista Home 64 bit to Win7 Ultimate 64 bit, but every time I do, I get an error that says the versions are incompatible. I forget the exact wording, but it literally says cannot upgrade 64 bit version to this 64 bit version, depsite the fact Win7 Ultimate is reported to be compatible with everything. I even tried to do the x86 install after x64 failed out a few times (I know, I didnt actually expect it to work). I honestly think that this version of Vista was so chewed up that it's failing due to corruption in Vista, when I got this machine to work on it was crawling with viruses (Vundo, doesnt open .exe's, all the fun stuff).
