View 2 RepliesI purchased a Dell XPS 8300 almost 1 year ago.The last couple months I have had boot issues when I turn the pc on.All hardware tests (since I purchased the pc have passed with no problems). The boot issues are where all the icon's for the short cuts do not load and or the icon to show I am connected to the internet does not load properly. If I try to do alt/control/delete I cannot access anything. Then in most cases if I do a hard re-boot,the computer boots properly.Today was the killer. My wife turned on the pc and she got a blank screen. She then attempted a hard re-boot and for over 3 hr's it showed "loading game" on the middle of the screen. When I came home for lunch,my wife was on the phone with Dell. After they had her do a hard re-boot,the computer booted properly (after the usual "start windows normally" option came up. The "tech" connected on the pc and basically did all the things I could think of (i.e. hardware test to really check the hard drive etc.)When the "tech" could not fiqure out any other issue,he said that we will need to re-set to factory settings and that they are sending us a usb key to do that. In his judgement, there is a problem with the install of Windows 7 and that is the only thing that they can figure out is the problem. Outside of the "booting issues" the pc has worked great and I have had no other problems.
I am not a "techy",but I am also computer literate learning how to do basic things from watching my friends and learning how to access things on Windows to do basic repair. Long and short, does that seem like my only alternative?..I did make the recovery discs, still have the driver discs. I have re-installed Windows before (when I upgraded my Laptop and other desk top to Windows 7) and it is painful to make sure I made copies of everything I want to back-up,which I usually do and re-install all my softwear.
I thought it'd be a good idea to upgrade my desktop from XP to Windows 7. I installed Professional 32-bit on it since I got a free copy from MSDN because of my college. The install went smoothly and everything was fine. The only problem I had was that it had no sound and the sound drivers wouldn't install because they were for only Windows XP. However, I was perfectly fine with that since I don't really need sound for it. I'm using it more for hosting vent/teamspeak 2 servers for friends.
The problem I had this morning when I turned it back on was that it wasn't recognizing the Ethernet connection anymore. And I don't know why. Windows 7 installed Intel PRO/100 VE by default for my network adapter and it's still there but it's not recognizing any Internet connection. I read somewhere that your computer won't recognize a lot of your hardware if the chipset driver isn't installed.
I didn't know what chipset I had so I tried using Intel's Chipset Identification utility thing which I transferred over from my laptop by means of an external but it said that it couldn't even recognize what chipset was on my Dell 8300.
I tried installing the only chipset driver for the 8300 from dell's site but it's not supported by any OS after XP. So I'm at a loss on what to do. I've read stories from other people online about having success upgrading their old 2003/2004 Dell 8300 to Windows 7.
I just want to get my desktop back on the Internet. I don't really care about the sound not working.
My 7300/7400 All in one won't install on my new Windows 7 computer. What can I do??

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Dell XPS 8300. It will have Intel Core i7-2600 processor(8MB Cache, 3.4GHz), 8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4x2GB,Nvidia Geforce GT530 and 500GB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM. I am replacing a HP media pc that I bought 4-5 years ago as it seems that the graphics card as well as other issues are about to make the motherboard fry. My son play's the 3D game Minecraft. I just want to make sure if he continues to play, that it won't do the same thing to this pc. I did some research and it seemed without moving up to Alien Ware this was the best I could do for the money.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. The software disk will not install. I was able to load the drivers through the "Add a Printer" and can print in wireless mode. I tried to download the "software" for the scanner and fax on-line...it would not load either. I contacted support and they said it may be a "installer" issue. Does that make sense? I tried to run the software again and got a "fatal error"

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit on my new Asus G50vt-x5 laptop. I am unable to get my Officejet K60 to work with it, though every website I've gone to says that it should automatically show up when it's plugged in. The printer still works as a standalone copier, and it worked with my previous computer -- an Xp Pro system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave recently got a laptop with Windows 7 and had great difficulty in getting HP to advise me on getting my HP4110 OfficeJet attached and recognised. Eventually did, but now I'm suddenly getting the message 'USB device not recognized' by my laptop. Have tried a few fixes - turning everything off and re-starting/re-booting ...pulling the power plug on the printer and re-seating it, but nothing works.

Problem: Windows recognizes this printer and lists it as 'unspecified device'. Attempts to load a printer driver which worked in XP X64 is unsuccessful as also is when I tried to load/find its driver through device manage>listed printer>search through Internet. HP says NO PLAN to support driver for this printer for x64.
I hate to discard an old but working printer. Any suggestions?
Anyone able to get this printer to work w/64 bit 7? Can't install the software or drivers. Works fine on vista machine.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI just built a new computer running Windows 7 64-bit and I’m loving it. However, I have one problem that I just cannot seem to fix. I have two printers - HP Deskjet 5550 and an HP Officejet 6210, both of which I cannot print to.
When I send a job to be printed from ANY program (IE, Word, notepad, etc), the job in the print queue immediately says 'Error-Printing". When I run the printer troubleshooter it says there is a 'print job in the queue that is preventing the printer from working' and the troubleshooter will restart the print job which doesn't fix anything.
If I go into the Event Log I can see that windows is logging Print errors. Please click here to view the error:
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f77/mattd860/print_error.jpg.
Basically, the error says Spooler Operation Failed with Event ID #372. Searching for this error and event ID on the web has yielded no viable solutions.
Here's what I've done so far to try and fix this problem:
Uninstalled printer/reinstalled
Stopped and restarted spool service
Made sure spooling was set to AUTOMATIC (and it was)
Tried alternate printer drivers (from different printers)
I am running a fully updated Kaspersky Anti-virus so I've ruled out the possibility of a virus.... although I guess this might still be the problem?
To me it seems like something in the /windows/system32/spool folder is corrupt but I don't know where to begin fixing it. I guess I could delete the whole directory and copy the .../spool folder from my laptop running windows 7 but I don't want to risk messing up my otherwise perfectly running machine.
Can't get the driver to work on Windows 7. Anyone have suggestion on how to do this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on 7100RC 64-bit. I have a HP Officejet 4215 All-In-One. I installed the full HP software downloaded from the HP web site for Vista 64-bit for this AIO. It appears to install OK, but the scanner does not work from the HP Solution Center (Digital Imaging Monitor) software which use the TWAIN drivers (I think). I can however, access and use the scanner by using another application - Adobe Acrobat, for example - by choosing to use the WIA drivers. (If I choose the TWAIN drivers to scan in Acrobat, the operation dies.) Using WIA from another application is a workaround, but I would prefer to use the HP Solution Center because it gives me a lot more flexibility and options. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple times with the same results.
