I've recently gotten windows 7, so I am still getting used to it. I have downloaded an old mmo game I used to have on winxp. But I can't install it. When I left click it locks up and says "not responding" and the same happens when I right click it. Which means I can't even delete it.
OK, I was installing some x64 plugs yesterday and the default installer wasn't pointing to the right folder so i manually typed the correct pathc:Program filesSteinbergVST pluginsAll seemed to go well until I looked at my C drive, I now have two identical folders saying Program files.c:Program filesc:Program filesc:Program files (x86)I've changed permissions and taken full control and tried to delete the new one but it i get an error message saying the folder isn't empty.I've tried everything I can think of including safe mode etc but can't for the life of me delete this double folder. If I use the CMD line then it lists both folders with exactly the same name so I've no idea which one is the bogus one to try and delete from there.I tried system restore and still the two folders came back again!!The bogus folder is showing 0 file size and if I open it and try and open a folder inside i get an error message saying the file isn't in that location but I cant get rig of the bloody thin
I have Windows 7 Home basic 64 Bit OS.I have lots of applications installed, out of which every applications folders are stored on both Program files and Program files (X86) Folder.I am not going to use 32 bit OS in future. So can I delete folders from Program files (x86) Folder directly ? (Its shows in Add/Remove Programs too..)(Because It shows in All Programs menu @ start up and it consuming space on Hard disk and All programs )
I've been attempting to delete files from Norton Internet Security, which has been inactive for a long time (we are not going to renew our account) and has been bugging us constantly. I assumed it would be an easy task, and I couldn't have been farther from the truth.I went into the C:Program Files (x86)Norton Internet Security where the data for the program is found, and I couldn't delete the files. A dialogue saying "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder".I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. All three of these actions failed. The command prompt said "Access denied".
I am addicted to this game but if I just uninstall, it's gone forever and sometime in the future I might want it back. Alternately, if I knew how to password protect it, I could have someone else choost the password.
am using window 7 ultimate. the thing is that, as an administrator, i dont seems to have full control of my pc. i can install softwares, cant delet some program files, cant make changes to my account name or type, cant manage other account and i cant install my system update. note. it shows a logo b4 (change ur account name, type, manege another account)
when I <ctrl>B in WORDS 2010 I don't get what I should - i.e. bold font typing - but some unclear (to me) response. How do I restore the original function of <ctrl>B?
While attempting to download Btjunkie, I mistakenly downloaded a program called videograb, which is not what was stated on the website. Now I am unable to delete it. It has made unrequested changes to my computer. The instructions said to try this deletion in safe mode. When I restart the computer holding F8, as per the Windows instructions, I get what appears to be a list of system info, followed by 'press F10 to enter setup'. This starts os as usual. What happened to safe mode? I run Norton virus scan frequently, and have run Ccleaner to clean registry; this program was highly recommended by several people. I am running Win 7 os.
I have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else. CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.

I will be upgrading my Vista-64 bit OS to Windows 7 when I get my pre-ordered copy in late October. The laptop currently has an used partition to the left of the Vista OS partition (as seen by Disk Management). When I install Windows 7 will I be able to delete and/or merge those two partitions?
I have 64 bit windows 7. I deleted dungeon siege 2 using the control panel, remove program. It was removed except for one file in Program files x86/microsoftgames/dungeonSiege2. I tried manually deleting it but get this "the action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program. Close folder or file or retry" There is nothing open. I clicked properties of the file and security and clicked administrator and get the same message. Never had this problem removing remnants of programs in xp.
Once you get to the Custom (Advanced) tab of Windows 7 clean install there are options to delete the partition, format, etc. Assuming I want to delete all of my partitions so that I have one large volume C: is it best to delete the partitions first and then format? Why would someone do one over the other (or both?) Right now I have a C: partition and a D:RECOVERY partition. I want to delete the D: partition and combine it to the C: partition.Don't they do the same thing? Why do you need to format after you delete a partition ? Do I also delete the C: partition and "re-create" it? What about the term "Unallocated Space"
I have recently updated my hdd with a clean windows 7 install, but had the old one on a secondary hard disk as a back up. I now need to delete these files to save space on my data drive, but am unable to delete the system and windows files as they are owned by TrustedInstaller.
I discovered how to take ownership of these directories, but now the UAC is telling me that I need permission from myself to delete the files which I own!
Is there anyway to get round this without shipping out my data and doing a format, which I don't want to do as I always seem to miss something important..
I cant installing windows 7 or 8 on any partition (D, E, F, G) except C partition, so I try to delete them and create a new partition but I cant also (delete and new icon are disable).
I'm trying to install Windows 7 x64 on a machine that currently has the Windows 7 RC on it. When I boot from the DVD, it immediately goes into "Windows is loading files...", which it does for 30 minutes or so and then reboots, at which point I get a message that says that Windows cannot start because files have changed.
Normally when I boot from the DVD, the first thing it asks me is whether I want to create/delete partitions, do a fresh install or an upgrade, etc. I'm not getting any of that. Anyone know what's wrong?
I do the Windows 7 Clean install and now I cant delete or add folder or file in to some folder or drivers they ask administrator permission. How can I change that and there is unknown security members also !!!!
Something has corrupted my Internet Explorer. When I try to download another copy and install it, It says it is already installed. How do I re-install the program? malfam has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
We have a laptop in the office that an employee uses. When I set up the computer, I set up two profiles - an admin and the user.I need to install a program on the user side, but it won't let me install it. An error comes up and mentions admin privledges. I was logged in at the time as the standard user.I logged in the admin and was able to install it on the admin's desktop...but can't figure out how to install it on the users side. From the admin end, I even switch the user to an admin, but same result. Funny thing is that was I then logged in as the user, it didn't show as being an admin.
I recently have noticed that I cannot install any downloaded programs. For example, I've tried to install Avast Antivirus and Spotify programs I downloaded from the internet.
I can run other .exe programs that were previously installed like Chrome, Itunes, etc. but keep getting errors with the above .exe programs.
