Boot *bad Drivers*
Nov 12, 2009
I recently upgraded to windows 7 on my custom built machine, nothing but problems with the halt at 85% completing installation. But I figured out to bypass that by removing the hdd putting it on a PC with no bells and whistles installed like clockwork.
Back on topic,
It runs fine, windows detects both cards and install their drivers before I can even get a chance to install my own, but w/e. I install the latest Drivers from Nvidia 191. 64 Bit Windows 7 9800 GT blah blah blah, Installation goes fine, no problems I go to reset and it won't boot, *bad drivers* So I go into safe mode and Disable one of my video cards the none display one, reboot, it goes into windows 7 no problem,
BUT there is no Nvidia Control Panel and it says my card is not 3d compatible. Here's the kicker, it won't boot unless BOTH video cards are plugged in, This is a bit of a mystery to me. Since it will no reboot with new drivers installed it will never finalize the installation and they will never be installed correctly.

I am running Win7 and an ATI4670 and an ASUS P7P55D motherboard. All had been great until last week when I got the BSoD. The message said "video driver failed to initialize". I have tried all of the available Win 7 recovery options when booting using F8. Is there any way to reload all of the ATI drivers, etc from the CMD prompt from the recovery screen?

I'm installing the official MS downloaded 64-bit build 7100 RC (released May 5). I'm installing onto an Athlon 64 X2, 4 GB RAM, etc. I have integrated graphics card that I'm using to get it running, before trying to get my ATI 4670 to work. The int. graphics card is an ATI X1250 chip.
When I just boot it, everything loads fine, but the Windows screen is mostly white with black lines through it. You can see where textboxes are, but not what's in them. The mouse cursor is fine throughout. So, I figured my drivers were just bad.
So, I tried to load the system via the Windows 7 boot disk, then go to the Repair Windows option. This all works fine and the screen looks normal. I open up the folder with my drivers (downloaded directly from Gigabyte today), and select my .inf file. It brings up a list of drivers to install. I click on my chip (again, the X1250), and it loads for a bit before saying the driver failed to load. So, I don't know what I'm doing wrong here other than just being SOL. Any thoughts?

Well, I have this problem: After installing 64bit 186.03 (tried 185 too) NVIDIA drivers for notebooks (I have geforce 9200m gs) and restarting, windows just won't boot up. The screen goes black and then reboots without even showing the "welcome screen". I've tried this with 7100 and RTM builds (Didn't have any problems with xp though).

The short of it is that I reinstalled windows 7 HP, it booted up fine when no drivers were installed, I install drivers and it goes to starting windows, gets past it and just hangs on a black screen, no mouse, nothing.Tried using driver sweeper, removing everything and updating my drivers multiple different ways. This is a very new build, about 2 weeks old? Was completely fine until I installed a new CPU fan, but I don't see how that has much to do with it?ATi HD 7850 2GB is the card.

In process of creating a slipstreamed XP Install disk, but need to get the SATA drivers for this machine, as obviously there in no floppy to use. The factory disk has 2.5 GB of drivers, which obviously is more than I need, plus they will not fit on the CD.

I have just bought 7 Profession 64-bit and upgrade from my Vista Home Prem install. Everytime i install graphics drivers it fails on re-boot.
As far as i can see the drivers install fine (newest ones on nvidia site 195.55 and 186.whatever) then i restart, it loads the "starting windows" page, goes through that fine, but when it tries to go on it just crashes forcing me to use system restore to remove the nvidia drivers so i can run it again.

I recently build a new system with win7 64bit. Everything went well untill I exchanged a blue ray drive with a dvdwriter (1 day later). Win7 recognized the drive in device manager but did not assign a drive letter nor would the drive open (function). After trying everything I can think of I decided to reinstall the sata drivers from the asus websitebecause I wasn't able to use the motherboard disk with the DVD drive for installation) the system restarted and never booted back up. The bios recognize the ssd as 1st boot but win7 does not boot back up. As a matter of fact the hd LED doesnt flash anymore like it did when the system was working. I also could not use 5 USB ports (i was going to reinstall the drivers after the sata drivers) from the beginning of win7 install and Bluetooth comport not available. Did I screw up the bios? (bios flash with USB?)

I recently got a new ssd and installed Windows 7 on it (I used the oem code on the bottom of my laptop [Lenovo Y580] along with the iso from digitalriver). It's been... well, as good as you can expect windows to be up until yesterday. When I booted the laptop into Windows, I had no internet despite having an ethernet cable connected. I checked to make sure it wasn't just my router. Sure enough, wifi and ethernet work perfectly in Ubuntu. I went into windows again and checked if I had the latest drivers. I did, so I tried reinstalling them and everything worked fine. Until I restarted. Every single time I restart I need to reinstall my wifi and ethernet drivers. It takes seconds, but it's still annoying and shouldn't be happening.

I have windows 7 installed on a PC I built a little over a year ago. I recently upgraded to the windows 8 consumer preview, but I didn't like it so I'm trying to switch back. When I install windows it works fine, I can turn my computer off and on as many times as I want and it will be fine, but if I install any video card drivers or any of the updates that windows tells me to install, the next time it boots up I either get the windows splash screen or a black screen right after it says, "welcome to windows", or whatever it says. I have tried installing only my video card driver, I have tried installing only one of the recommended updates, but no matter what I install it doesn't work the next time it boots, so this isn't a problem with one specific driver. The only thing I have changed since I had windows 7 installed before is that I got a new SSD, but I'm still using my old drive as well. I have tried installing on the SSD while the other drive is unplugged and I have tried to install windows on my original HD while my solid state drive is unplugged. I have tried installing on both, nothing works. I have formatted both several times. I have also tried installing both 32 and 64 bit versions, both to the same effect.

Im running into a very strange situation.
Im running 7 Ultimate on a Lenovo 3000 N100 Laptop that I use for work.
Originally I had the RTM that i revieved from work (HP). Once 7 was released to the public I purchased the Ultimate anytime Upgrade to make my copy of 7 my own. Here is my issue, With the RTM installed I had no problems. But once I entered my new key I started having boot problems.
Every other boot, when I get to the login screen It seem that my graphics driver and my touchpad driver did not load and I must shut down and reboot.
when I reboot it then works fine. i have done a Fresh Install 3 times,
Downloaded updated drivers for my chipset, graphics, and touchpad. Could it be a BioS issue?
I was wondering if anybody has ever encountered this or knows how to remedy this.

A few days ago, I went to turn on my computer and it just gave me a black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I attempted to use System Repair, which failed. It said there was an unspecified error possibly caused by a change in system configuration. I have not changed anything on my computer, for the record, between the last time it worked and now. My husband said it downloaded updates, which would explain why it was off in the first place instead of just being on stand-by. Anyway, I then tried System Restore, which also failed. I can get it to start in Safe Mode with Networking, but it seems that everything I try to run to figure out what the problem is, is saying it can't find the problem. I enabled bootlogging and found this...

This combination of drivers works fine in windows vista 32 bit.. boots up fine and everything. Today I finally got my SSDD for my OS and a copy of Windows 7 64 bit. I installed it fine without error. Then installed my chipset drivers that I downloaded off of Nvidia's website (64 bit, worked fine, rebooted), installed my nvidia display drivers, rebooted.. now whenever I start windows up. I get the flowery blue background windows logo. It just hangs there and never boots. However it will boot fine into safe mode and after I uninstall the display drivers... though my gaming computer is going to be pretty useless if I can't game with it!

Asus Striker II Formula (with 15.58 64 bit drivers installed)
2x SLI EVGA Geforce 560 TI 448 Special Edition (with64 bit 310.90 Drivers Installed)
I am going to try installing the motherboard chipset drivers from Asus's website. I believe the version number is 15.43, then try reinstalling the video drivers. However I don't think this is going to make much a difference.

I am having trouble with my Windows 7 Home Premium edition.
After having installed it and starting it up for the first time it wont go further than the "logo" screen.
The only thing i have done is to install the Radeon 4800 series drivers..
There is no error codes or anything and i am running out of possible reasons.
My system was running perfectly with the RC candidate. The first time i even removed my second 4890 and it didn't help anything.
Please someone know what to do. Could it be a corrupted disc i have recieved from amazon?

I recently rebuilt my pc with a gigabyte ga h77m d3h and core i3 2120 with 512m dedicated to on board graphics. The computer will start fine after you do the fresh install of windows 7 prof. 64 bit with the default video driver from windows. I've updated my bios using gigabyte's @bios tool and I've tried installing th drivers from the disc, from intel's website and with automatic update in device manager. Could a corrupt windows install file cause this issue? I downloaded the ISO from the Microsoft website when I bought the product key.

I just purchased a new video card for my old Acer M3100 that I dual boot the original Vista and Windows 7 on. I bought a new Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 610 video card to play Skyrim. Windows 7 will install the drivers with absolutely no error messages but upon rebooting they won't load and I'm stuck with basic VGA. I booted out and back to Vista and loaded them and they installed fine as well and upon rebooting into Vista they actually load! My Windows 7 install is a recent clean install because I tried upgrading to Windows 8 and didn't do a clean install and it borked itself on all my legacy hardware. Does anyone know why a clean install won't load new video card drivers but my old Vista install loads them fine? (Yet another reason not to abandon the Vista Beast, Vista is the last OS that recognizes my (2) Rio Karma MP3 Players.)I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7 Pro 64Bit directly from Nvidias website and installed them and still get a "No GPU detected" message when trying to run the NVidia software that comes with the drivers.

Quick summary: SATA Controllers on motherboard are not working. Ordered and installed a PCI-E SATA Controller Card. Connected Hard Drive & DVD Drive to new card ports. Upon attempting to boot installed windows 7, it spontaneously restarts before loading. It seems that I need to get the Controller Card's drivers installed. i try startup repair mode, and I can load the driver and see the Windows 7 installation after that, but then I don't know how to permanantly add the drivers for this installation.

I'm not sure where to even begin to fix these problems. Some online searches suggested doing a system repair but I want to get some more feedback here before proceeding. Here is the message from the event log:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AFD
cmdGuard
cmdHlp
CSC
DfsC
discache
ElbyCDIO
[code]...
I realized some of these are not Windows 7 related but most are. While the computer "works", I do experience frequent reboots and freezes. Perhaps some of these driver loading failures are part of the cause of my issues.

I am having a problem starting my PC! I have to start it in the boot menu under the RAID option. If I do not do this a message saying "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.." comes up, and just keeps popping up regardless of what I press! I would try using my boot disk but for the life of me I can't find it, and as windows 7 was already installed on this computer when we got it 3 year ago, I can't accurately recall if it came with one!I am no expert on BIOS, but I have read other problems similar to this one, and know that if I don't have the boot disk or the OS disk, I will need to know that at least.I am curious if the (Hard drive) is the issue. The BIOS tells me that anything in parentheses is disabled from corresponding type menu.
