View 6 RepliesBlu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360? Nope.
This week, rumors popped up again that Microsoft was working on a $100-$150 Blu-Ray add-on drive for the Xbox 360. And once again, the rumors are untrue.
Here's the official statement.
"As we've said before, Microsoft has no plans to introduce an Xbox 360 Blu-ray add-on. Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available." Read more at the source.
I've been keeping an eye on these forums; I find that it provides the most succinct information regarding Windows 7.
I finally bit the bullet and made myself a HTPC running Win 7 RC 64-bit. The whole purpose was to play ripped DVDs (to VOBs) from my NAS, any downloaded shows (as AVI's) from my NAS, and hopefully BluRays via the BD-ROM (I have a PS3, so this was not the main reason).
It seems that I was able to get the first two objectives working without any work. All I had to do was install the latest Catalyst drivers.
However, I can't seem to get Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 Ultra (or Windows Media Center) to play BluRays with anything more than 'stereo.' I've tried to research the topic, but there's just too many acronyms flying around (PAP, AAC, AC3, etc) that reading forums is like greek!
From my understanding, I know I can't get the DD TrueHD (or DTS-MA) to work via HDMI. However, I THOUGHT I could at least have PowerDVD "convert" (is the proper word downsample?) the DD TrueHD to a 5.1 Multichannel audio.
Am I completely wrong? Is what I want even possible?
I have a LAN and Homegroup and my wife's and my computer are connect. I also have a BluRay player connected via Ethernet cable to my gateway (cable modem + router), but I cannot see it (I can play Netflix movies on it, though). How can I add the BluRay to my homegroup so that I can play music from my computer to it (or rather to my amplifier via the BluRay)?

My question is does anybody know what kind of software i would use that converts this under 2GB with nice quality? I have tons of Blu-ray movies and i want to convert them under 2GB to save space on my hard drive, also can a person make back-up copys of his/her own collection?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about building a new main PC and hooking my current one up to my receiver and plasma tv (50" Pioneer Kuro 720p). If I put a BluRay player in the new PC, will I be able to display it on the tv over the network or does the BluRay player need to be in the HTPC? My current machine's mobo is IDE, not SATA, so I assume that would limit my options on a BD drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedConfirmed by Mr. Sinofsky himself, there will be no native BluRay support in Windows 7. However, BluRay Drive makers and OEMs will be able to extend Windows Media Center to support playback. What will be supported in Windows 7 though, is the burning of BRD discs.
Here’s the email that was forwarded to me from our loyal reader Theodore. I did make a WHOIS check to make sure that it was Sinofsky himself. Location was indeed from: United States Redmond Microsoft Corp.
Basically whenever i try to use windows media center to play a bluray disk, it automatically quits out of wmc and launched powerDVD, which is jarring and feels like a cheap hack.
is there any way to get bluray disks to lay inside wmc?

so what the heck, is cyberlink in cahoots with the media industry? should I not be able to run a 2011 bluray disk via powerdvd7.3 and have to chuck 100 bucks to get this working again? I have been able to run bluray in this version before (Terminal Salvation). I'm sorry I don't keep up with updates and just expect things to work, crazy consumer I am. View 5 Replies View RelatedOK so since I have installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on this computer ( it is the first operating system installed on it) I can not write any DVDs .A strange fact is that I can write and read CDs and also read DVDs, but not every time.I got an original CD Album and it's still not recognized by the PC for example, and this happens to many audio CDs.I tried many registry tricks and stuff like that but in vain. The computer is new, bought it one month ago. - delete Upperfilter and lowerfilter entries.
- Reboot your system.
there was no upper-filter or lower filters to delete, i have also had a look in properties and it says the dvd drive is working fine,iv tried to uninstall it and restart still have the same problem?
I just purchased an LG BH12LS38 Bluray reader. I popped in my Bluray disk and it said that some drivers needed to be installed. So, I grabbed my install disk, the one that came with it.. I know it sounds redundant to say. And I selected to install the software, it say that it can only install for LG readers. This seems odd to me, seeing as I pulled this LG install disk from the LG box that held my LG reader.

I ended up creating 11 disks from the option. I installed the new hard drive and the BIOS reads that it will boot from the internal optical drive first. When I insert the first CD and start then computer, it continues to read "Operating system not found". When I look at the CD in another computer, it reads three files and one folder. The first file is an icon file which reads "Setup", the next is a "Media" bin file, and the last is an autorun setup information file. The last is a folder that contains various other backup files. I am unsure of when this problem occured (because I rarely use the drive, which begs the question of how in the world can it stop working), but I do know that nothing I have tried has helped me.I've tried all of the following:Editing the registry to no avail because the "Lower Filters" key is not present, therefore the kb article is of no use.Uninstalling/reinstalling the drive Changing the Start key in the registry to "3" Formatting the entire machine and restoring to factory settings The thing is, whenever I enter the Device Manager to check on the drive, it keeps saying it's working perfectly/drivers are up-to-date/blah blah blah. I've tried searching everywhere but to no avail, and I may soon just take a hammer to it and be done with this crap. However, I am hoping that you mates can help me before rage takes over and I smash this thing to bits! Also, is it possible for a drive to be stuck in "burn mode" (as in it thinks it's always burning a cd/dvd)?
