I have done numerous internet searchs re: can't get quick access tool bar to appear in windows live mail but can't find anything that addresses that issue. I have done all kinds of right clicking on variousl menu bars and everyplace I can find to click, but still no option to show the quick access toolbar.

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
I have just got round to making a backup of my system, but when I come to view items on the file so items are"access denied". I have set myself as admin.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new external hard drive. It is a plug and play seagate expansion. I like how Windows Backup saves all of the files that you have modified since the last backup automatically at a certain time that you designate. However when you go into the backup file, they are all zip files and have things all split up if they are big, and I have some big files. Is there a free backup software that functions like the Windows 7 Backup program but is more like an automatic copy and paste thing, or can I get Windows Backup to function as follows. For example, I want it to automatically copy and paste the files that have changed since the last time over to the external hard drive, and I want them to remain the way they are. I don't want them in the zip files, I want to be able to access a single file the same way I normally would. I don't want to have to remember all the files I've changed throughout the day and copy them over myself. So it's basically an exact copy of my Library that updates automatically when I plug the hard drive in or at a scheduled time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Win 7 64-bit and yesterday, I got the black screen of death on boot. Black screen, blinking cursor right after I boot. I can access the Samsung recovery menu. I figured I'd just backup my data and do system restore or clean reinstall. After hours of backup, I looked to see the details on a popup dialogue and apparently, nothing was backed up because it was unable to access the files on my C: drive and transfer onto an external hard drive. I also tried to backup an image, but that also fails.

I have gone into the properties of my user folder (William) and made sure I have all rights, and changed the ownership (security tab, owner tab). All I want to do is be able to backup my data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 and I have four hard drives in my computer labeled C, E, F and G. A few days ago I got a BSOD and my computer wouldn't start up after that. I've been having a few problems with the C drive lately so I bought a replacement and restored from my Acronis TrueImage 2010 backup. That went fine and my computer now works as it did before with my F and G drives connected, but not my E drive. If I try to start up with my E drive connected my computer just gets stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. If I look at my BIOS settings with it connected it is not listed. It's a pretty new drive and I've never had any problems with it before. Please can someone tell me how I can start using it again?

I've tried a few of the options suggested elsewhere in the Forum but they didn't work as I'd like.
I have added the quick launch to the taskbar on 1 pc but on the second one when I click on toolbars - new toolbar it opens with Libraries showing and I cannot get rid of it to insert the text for the quick launch bar. Does anyone know how to get it to open without the libraries bar showing?

Im not talking about the Quick Play buttons, I dont care about those.
Any ideas?

Question is this. Is there a hot key or software appy that can do this for me when I launch Media Center? Perhaps a Batch file, witch I have no experience with.?

View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled Windows 7 last night on my XP machine. Installation went through fine & is running like a dream. BUT I've got an issue recovering files via Easy Transfer...
Used it in XP to transfer files onto my 4g memory stick - used up about 2.4g. When it came to moving the files back over to Windows 7 via Easy Transfer I get an error message saying "Can't connect to Files".
Is this something to do with drivers?
My problem is I don't know if I can merge 2 different pc's into the new laptop using easy file transfer or will it wipe out the first transfer that I have already done? Different users on both old computers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm getting ready to replace my son's hard drive (Dell computer) plus upgrade his OS from XP Pro to Windows 7 Home Premium. I've downloaded the XP version of Windows Easy Transfer and ran it backing up the files to an external drive but I'm wondering if something went wrong. Looking at the backed up file (on the external drive) it doesn't look like what I've seen in tutorials which shows an icon named Windows Easy Transfer - Items from old computer. The file I get is a file that doesn't know what program created it although the size seems right. I've ran Windows Easy Transfer twice with the same results.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk so i bought a Belkin Easy Transfer cable to use the Windows Easy Transfer feature, the reason being is that I have several PCs in the house, 2 of them are gaming PCs, the others are HTPCs, I also have a laptop and not to mention my sister & dad uses one too, so I often have to copy files across one another, whether it's a movie, game or whatever. The files i copy and share across the PCs are usually large in size, so the best way i found was to use an external hardrive to copy files to it, and then transfer the files to the PC i want to copy to.But doing this is slow and annoying, and my external hardrive is a piece of crap and often gets corrupted (it's a cheap Seagate brand and unreliable). So I thought, maybe I should buy a cable that lets me connect 2 computers through USB port, and transfer the files that way. So I did, I got the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable yesterday and it works really nicely, transfer speed is fast and no setup is required unless you're using Windows XP, but it's not complicated to setup anyway as it gives you a manual guide with pictures showing you what to do.
Anyway it works fine except that it takes a few minutes to establish connection and scan for the files on the system. Basically, you connect the cable, and you choose the system you want to copy the files "FROM" as 'Old Computer', and you choose the system you want to copy the files "TO", as 'New Computer', and then it'll start scanning for all the files you can copy on from the 'Old Computer' (because you're copying files "FROM" it). The scanning takes quite a bit of time, depending on the size of your hardrive and how many GBs of files you have on it, for me it took about 5 minutes since it was on a laptop with 150GB HDD.So my question is, is there any option to bypass this scanning process?? Because I only want to specify a certain amount of folders to be scanned as those are the folders that I copy files from all the time, there aren't any options on how to change this during the Windows Easy Transfer process. Also, is it possible for me to right click on a file or folder and send to the other PC through Windows Easy Transfer this way, instead of connecting them both and let it scan, and finally be able to select the files i want to copy?
