Im looking at just testing out how a VPN works, a quick overview is i have a vista laptop and a windows 7 desktop along with a billion 7800n router. Both the laptop and desktop have static lan ip address asaigned to them. I would like to dial into my desktop machine from my laptop.I have setup my desktop to recieve in coming connections but when i am setting up the laptop to allow outgoing connections im a little bit unsure on one aspect. When it asks for the internet address i want to connect to which is my desktop machine, do i have to type in the lan address of that machine or do i have to put in the wan address?
It is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit application. June 2012 it crashed. Since I am a teacher, I needed my laptop to recover quickly. The system would not recognize my recovery disks so I had to order disks from HP. The disks arrived but when I began to rebuild the tablet I killed the process at 12 hours because it seemed ridiculously long. ( My prior career I was a system project manager...so I am no strager to computers and software installations.) My quick solution was installing Windows 7 Home premium and then downloading the custom installtions for my HP tablet off the HP site. This was required to finish the school year. July 2012 I began attempting to rebuild my laptop correctly. I found, through HP forums, their installtions take 16 hours before you get to the windows setup screens. In the midst of this process my battery also seems to have completely died.I have tested that it is the battery: AC Power glows steady white when battery is removed and system boots.
Put the battery back in and the light blinks orange the whole time. Battery test shows it cannot recognize a battery. So....when I tried to install the first time with battery still in, 16 hours later HP recovey processed, and Windows setup began. It made it through preparing software installation, installing software, customizing software, and stopped at "Checking AC Power." The second time.....I tried to install I removed the dead battery. This allowed the power led to stop blinking orange and be steady white glow. For this test the system made it through preparing, and installing, but hung at customizing software.Third try now....battery back in hangs again at Checking AC Power. It has been here for 8 hours. The HP site also indicates that the WIFI radio needs to be on for installation. Mine is and glows white.
Any remedies for how to complete the installation, through checking ac power where it is hanging, and then initate and complete the installtion verification would be great! While I can install my full clean version of Windows 7, it would be preferential to install with the HP customizations specific to this laptop. Here is a link to the customer forum for the inordiantely long recovery process on the HP side: Installing from HP Recovery CD,nstallation freezes at %12 - Page 11 - HP Support Forum
one of the netbooks was plugged in to initially power it up, but then hard-shut-down before Windows could run through its initial setup. Now when I boot up the netbook, and it attempts to go through the initial windows setup "Setup is starting services", and then throws an error message: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.I restart, and the cycle continues. This happens whether I try to boot normally or in safe modeI've got no CD-drive attached to it, so I'm not sure what I can do to break this error cycle.
What I wanna know is the best way to format my HP G60 (Win 7 Home Premium) to remove all the extraneous programs like HP Dashboard, etc, and get it running at its peak again. I'm currently working at my school in our "Connection Assistance Room", but that's mostly configuring WiFi, etc. I don't have any experience in formatting.
When I try to install some programs and drivers i get error: 'Setup will only run in administrator mode. setup is aborting.'. I only have one account which has administrator rights. I have already tried to enable and disable UAC, booting in safe mode, run as administrator, enabling original administrator account, adding permissions, taking ownership, changing compability mode and other but nothig is solving my problem. I'm running windows 7 x64 build 7000.
I want to add My Docs to the Quick Launch bar but it refuses to go. I only get the option to add to Windows Explorer which I don't want. I'd like to see my customised containing folder on the Quick Launch instead of the basic brown folder.
I've tried a few of the options suggested elsewhere in the Forum but they didn't work as I'd like.
I have added the quick launch to the taskbar on 1 pc but on the second one when I click on toolbars - new toolbar it opens with Libraries showing and I cannot get rid of it to insert the text for the quick launch bar. Does anyone know how to get it to open without the libraries bar showing?
I just bought a new WD 2TB ext. HD.Scanned for bad sectors (COMPUTER - PROPERTIES - TOOL - CHECK NOW): took me about 6hr, then I quick format it (of course very fast). Should I need to do normal format? In this case since I already scanned the HD, no need to do full format.
This is my second day with Windows 7 and I'm very impressed with it. With Vista, I had the 'My ISP' icon in the Quick Launch bar which was very handy. Now that I've managed to enable the Windows 7 Quick Launch, can anyone tell me how to put the My ISP icon there so that I can connect with just one click as with Vista?
I have my Realtek Audio device connected to my home theater receiver through s/pdf and to my monitor through the green jack on the back of the pc.
When I am surfing the forums or what not, I have sound set to analog through my monitor. When I switch to Media Center, My output is moved to the s/pdf by right clicking the little speaker and selecting playback devices, and changng my default device, then starting Media Center.
However, sometimes. I forget to do this and I have to close Media Center and make the switch.
Question is this. Is there a hot key or software appy that can do this for me when I launch Media Center? Perhaps a Batch file, witch I have no experience with.?
I, like many, many people here have experienced this error message coming up on the bottom right of the screen. There are many closed topics on this with some very long-winded answers and a lot of confusion.Try reactivating your copy of Windows 7 first by doing the following (It worked for me without even needing a reboot!)Open your "Start" button.type or copy and paste this slui.exe When you see it as an option to click, right click and run as administrator.Came up for me as "Activation complete" straightaway. Not suggesting this is an alternative for the larger threads but definately something to try before you go too deep (or in my case out of my depth lol)
The icons in the quick-launch bar (or whatever it's called now, since it works differently after all) frequently change image. For the first few days it was all normal, then the WMP and IE(32-bit) icons swapped image, and now the WMP image has turned into my C drive's image (and IE(32-bit)'s back to normal. The 64-bit icon hasn't changed yet, by the way). They still work normally though. How to stop them from switching image?Interestingly, this also happened on Windows XP (which was 32-bit, not the 64-bit unlike this Windows 7). However, this is a different HD, so it's definitely not a HD issue (well, unless both happen to have the same problem, but what's the chance?).
I have just received a new computer running 7 home edition, occasionally I get a blue screen stop error but have no chance to read it before the system reboots. How do I keep the blue screen on screen to read it?
the thing is iv accidentally performed a quick format on an WD Green 2TB drive with XP pro installation. what i want is to recover the whole complete partition as it was (1 ntfs partition was on the disk) include names/structure and all. i dont have a 2TB space to image the disk, so all the recovery tools should be nondestructive, however i do have 2TB free to recovering to.Just to be clear the disk didnt have an os on it, it wasnt the primary, but a storage?
Windows 7-HPx64 offers easy changes from small to large icons in the Taskbar but QL icons seem to have one size only - small. In trying to set up / maintain Windows 7 for an older person I want to offer her a QL with large icons, just like the Taskbar.Do I ditch the QL and just pin apps to the Taskbar?
I still use the quick launch bar in Win 7 and I'm wondering something: is there a way to make a folder on that bar appear as a pull-down (or, pull-up) menu?I mean similar to the way Chrome allows you to make a folder on your bookmarks bar, in that clicking it brings a pull-down list of those bookmarksSo in this case, I'd like to click a "games" folder on my quick launch bar, and have it open a menu similarly, rather than just open a folder of links.
I have driver problem with Win 7 and HP NX6310 WI FI do not work. I can not use the button to activate the wi fi while HP drivers for quick launch button are for Vista and do not work.
I managed to reactivate the 'Quick Launch' Folder under Windows 7. Disadvantage: I need to synchronize the content for every user. Means 'Quick Launch ' differs a lot from e.g. Start MenuPrograms or Autostart where I can place my content into the 'All Useres' branch and will see a combination of my personal folders and the 'All Useres' folders.
basically the other day I manged to accidentally quick format my 2TB storage drive. After using some software to see what files I could recover I saw that it found a 150Mb $MFT file. Seeing as all the files are now nameless and will be a heck of a job to get back in working order is it possible to just put the previous $MFT file back on the drive so it actually knows where the data is located.
Friday night I had quick launch icons. Saturday morning I didn't. I also can't open the START menu and select "pin to start menu" on anything anymore. There are arrows next to certain programs as well (such as Word) that USED TO show recent documents but those don't even open anymore. All that exists there is an arrow with no functionality. What the heck? I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64. Why would all of my quick launch icons suddenly disappear and I can't drag and drop anything to the bar now? The bar isn't locked and nothing has changed in the system that I know of.
Using Win 7 x64 and Firefox 4 with a Dell 23.5" LCD monitor, I randomly see Firefox bookmarks (1 or 2 bookmarks) appearing in the area at the bottom of the screen where the Firefox add-ons are shown (one add-on currently - "Ad Block Plus" - so the red stop sign shows) and blending into the taskbar/quick launch tool bar. These random bookmarks show up about centered on the width of the screen. If I click anywhere in the Taskbar/quick launch tool bar, the shown bookmarks vanish.
I am looking to backup my dvds for quick & easy access on the computer instead of having to search through & load up each one. What is the easiest way to do this in 7?
