Cannot Backup System As Admin - Access Denied
Feb 19, 2011I have just got round to making a backup of my system, but when I come to view items on the file so items are"access denied". I have set myself as admin.

Access Denied On Admin Login?
Jan 31, 2011I upgraded my OS a few months ago to 64 bit with new components etc. I kept all of the old system files and folders JUST for if it went wrong, now ive sorted them all out, the old system files, and adobe is locked for some reason? I keep trying to change all of the administration but it just jumps straight back to before, but hey, im in no hurry to change it, its only 15gb of useless copies! Its just niggling at me and i would like to get it sorted if theres any other way? ie changing the admin account so i can change - everything-, as I'm not exactly new with computers, been studying them for years.
- Also, a little off topic if anyones got enough time to add some wisdom to the thread, ive just bought a super duper cooler for my CPU as when i run on normal settings on a game I play, LotrO, the manufacturers fan goes mad, and it really gets my goat making a loud whirring sound, would I be able to run on High-Ultra with a duel core amd athlon 2? with that fan I have "Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler" it wouldnt make any sound as its made for being quiet and cool very well. i suppose the only sign of the strain is artifacts in-game?
Can't Backup My User Folder-access Denied On CardSpace
Oct 27, 2011Dell Studio 1747 with I7, 4 core processor, 8GB ram, Win 7 Pro. When I try to back up my user folder, I get the msg-You must have administrator rights to change this folder (CardSpace). I can't find this folder, even by search. I have gone into the properties of my user folder (William) and made sure I have all rights, and changed the ownership (security tab, owner tab). All I want to do is be able to backup my data.

Nov 10, 2011In my Dell Alienware Aurora ALX desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, after trying to install an Oracle App, suddenly my System OS Hard Drive c: became inaccessible."Access Denied".The other drive D: is fully accessible. Even the c: drive is accessed by Virus scanners etc., I cannot open C: through Windows Explorer. Programs installed in C:Program files are also not runnable. Even System Protection cannot be accessed through Computer Properties->System Protection.I have tried Safe Mode wherein System Restore works but that restoration has not got rid of the problem. Netizens tell me that this the mischief of a virus - autorun.inf virus and suggested Autorun Eater and Autorun Remover these two did not even install/run properly. One suggestion was to access c: through cmd.exe - look for autorun.infs there and delete them: unfortunately there are thousands of them - bewildering - which of them can be deleted safely?!

Mar 29, 2011i got myself a new (used) mainboard and graphics card, and also switched from xp to windows 7 64. i backed up all the files i needed on one of my hard drives. now a number of these files were kept hidden on my old system, some of it being just plain p**n, some being genuine personal stuff. now i cant access any of it anymore. i kept the old xp system intact on one of the drives, or at least thats what i thought - i tried to boot it up today so i could remove the "hidden"-tags manually, but it wouldnt boot at all.

Sep 20, 2011I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.
On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).
On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.
The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.
Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

Aug 31, 2009I haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
What am I doing wrong here?

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
Forgot Admin Password On Windows 7 - No Backup Disc
Nov 19, 2011Lost administrator password on windows 7. I must have accidentally mistyped my admin PW when trying to change it. I don't want to get locked out completely. I do not have a back up or restore/repair disc. Is there any way around it besides using the disc, or USB, or complete reinstall? Just wiped the HD and had to start over so don't really want to do that again. My personal account is just fine and I can access that. However, without admin pw, I am very very limited.

Jan 8, 2012I'm building a Windows 7 PRo PC for a local club and want to lock down the PC. I have setup an Admin account, and set the main user account as a Standard account. I also want them to be able to use W7 Backup/Restore to backup the Standard Users "My Documents" folder to memory stick on a weekly basis. However, Backup/Restore will only run:
1. From the Administrator account , or
2. When executed from the Standard account it requests the administrator Password.
So in other words, it appears that for a Standard user to run a backup they need Admin rights? Kind of defeats the purpose of having a Standard account in this scenario. Is there any way to confer specific "rights" to a User account or Profile to access/execute specific programs? In this case allow a Standard User account the normal access, plus Backup/Restore (only) with conferred Admin rights?

Sep 10, 2011My husband and I have been trying to get pictures from our camera (Fuji FinePix S3400) to the computer with the supplied USB lead. WE have been able to do so by taking the SD card and shoving it into the computer but we can't do so with the lead which we prefer to do. It seems wrong that we can't do that! With lots of going into all jigging around into files and setting we keep getting the message, "Access is Denied". We have even got into security of the folder and put in "Authenticated Users". We have an Acer that was bought with Vista and then converted to Win 7.
