This is my first post on the forums and I was wondering if there is any way to have an application run on startup but do so in the background, where it just shows on the lower right task bar?
So if I am playing Left 4 Dead and listen to iTunes...my iTunes gets quiet automatically while playing Left 4 Dead. When I click on the iTunes it gets louder again and Left 4 Dead gets quiet. Is there any way to disable that feature?
Just a quick question, since I'm still adjusting to Win 7 Professional (even after a few months). Is it normal for some programs to launch quietly, do something, and then quickly close? I usually have Process Explorer open so I can monitor all running applications at all times, and this evening while my machine was idle, I noticed three programs pop up as daughter processes to services.exe. One of them was dllhost, but the other two I couldn't get a good look at. I'm pretty sure it was NOT the defrag, because that runs daughter to scvhost.exe
Anyhow, I'm just wondering, is there a list anywhere of what tasks launch themselves, what to look out for? MBAM and ESET's NOD32 say my system is clean, but programs running themselves without approval always makes me jittery.
Something that has been bugging me, is that when installing a program, the setup wizards and their subwindows open in the background, rather than on top as is normal. Being absent minded, I will sit and wait for several seconds, until I get impatient and look at the taskbar to see new tabs, which I must select to bring the setup on top. How can I set the OS to always bring these on top by default?
Any ideas on how to tweak the color of the menu background of Windows 7 applications?
To be specific - as I'm not sure of the correct name - I'm talking about the pale blue color which appears behind "File Edit View History " on Firefox (and other programs), below the title header. It is used as the unselected tab background too.
I don't like it!
I want this color to appear uniformly Grey, as in XP, and without the light slim horizontal embellishment cutting through the words.
My windows is minimizing the programs that im using. Well not exactly minimizing but sort of putting it back to desktop. I tried to install the windows again but whit no results. it's doing it again. I cant even write my documents in word properly because of this.
I have a few programs in XP that I needed to create a shortcut, then copy the shortcut to the Startup group, in order for the program to start on bootup. However, I cannot see how to do that in Windows 7.
I have a lil problem. I set up my instance so that I can spawn 10-20 of them and they all connect to my VPN. The problem is that the VPN dont kick in until I log on to instance so that windows load up.
How can I make VPN an automatic process so I do not have to log in?
Basically, the title sums it all up. Everytime I load the windows 7 professional, the 3 programs loads itself up too. Both Word and Excel starts with an empty page. IE9 will try to connect to the internet. And I can't seem to disable them from autostart. I have looked in the Startup folder. It's empty. I've tried msconfig. I don't see anything related to IE9, or MSOffice in there.
Im looking for a portable program which includes a Browser and a Mailing program, like Opera is, but NOT Opera (must be able to run beside Opera & Firefox!!)
I installed Weathrbug Plus and for some odd reason recently when I run it Windows runs the installation for the program. When I run the prograsm I get the typical "Preparing to install..." abnd then tyhe 'Configuring Weatherbug. I've been in contact with Weatherbug Support all day and we can't seem to find an answer.I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials. This is a clean install of Windows 7. I haven't used any other real-time security software other than MSE.I disabled MSE and tried it and got the same results.
I recently did a system restore on my laptop... HP 625. Windows 7.Then I logged in as normal and I've somehow lost the Personalise option on the desktop drop down menu.I can't even go into pictures and set a background. Also, the Windows 7 theme has completely disappeared and it's changed to a windows classic theme? I had to do the system restore because it wouldn't log in, even though the password was correct. It interrupts with the internet speed and looks plain freaking ugly.
My microphone keeps picking up background noises, like me breathing, my mouse and keyboard clicks. I've tried lowering ALL of the microphone "Levels" in recording settings to 0 and plugged my mic into different USB ports and I'm still getting noises, which doesnt make any sense to me.
I'm using Windows Home Premium, the Logitech New Clearchat Comfort headset/mic and the soundcard is listed as USB Audio Device (associated with the headset I'm assuming..)
I tried everything I can think of to change the desk top back ground but it just stays the same- Windows 7- picture. So not sure what to do now or if it is a fix from microsoft that has to be done? I did follow all the right instructions to do the change but with no change. The Theme will change when I click on it but not the back ground. Read tutials and treads and made sure I was doing it right and all settings were right but still no good!! It really isn't that big of a deal but if it's suppose to work why not on my brand new computer and operating system?
Running Windows 7 ultimate on a dell e4300 with 4gb ram and 2.26ghz cpu. While doing nothing the cpu will jump to 100%. chk msconfig and hide ms apps and nothing shows up. try to restart pc and scrn tells me i have a bkground pgm running (no more info) and does a forced restart. after restart ms sec essentials will not start then all of a sudden pc shuts off. restart in safe mode and no probs. restart again and pc running fine for now.
As it turns out WinCDEmu overrides all of Universal Extractor's file associations, with no means of getting around. I've been using it because I like BurnAware free, but the three programs do not coexsiste perfectly. Is there a simple program that burns, creates, and mounts .isos (and can erase RW disks) with minimal features?
I don't know where this error hs_err_pid came from.I closed down explorer and there were all this notepad messages on my desktop and I can't get rid of them. Researching, I know this is a Java thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. My windows update is fully updated.I've run 3 virus programs.I notice this was addressed for someone using XP but what of Windows 7? My add/remove program file only contines the program Java (TM) update 29. Nothing else is listed as far as Java is concerned.I've run cleaner programs and these did not take care of the problem. Every time I restart my machine these errors immediate pop up at start up.
Im trying to run a program on Windows 7. The program is a logitech installer. But Windows 7 Program Compatibility Assistant blocks the program and prevent me from running it. I have tried disable the Program Compatibility Assistant service in the service manager and i have also enabled the "Turn off Program Compatibility Assistant" group policy. But windows still keep blocking the program.
I have been using a program called Raw Therapee. I downloaded a new version and on installing it quit saying the old version must be removed. I could not find it listed in Revo Unistaller Pro, so I did a forced uninstall with the location of the main executable. This removed a lot of stuff. I checked the program folder and the folder and many files were still there, so I deleted them. I did a CCleaner in between and after. I then unhide and show system files and deleted the folders in the Appdata of main user and admin account, couldn't find it anywhere else. CCleaner again and reboot. Went to install the new version again and it claimed that the old version was still installed. I did a search for *aw The* and found an entry in the hidden Program Data Folder. In the Admin account it will not let me in this folder to delete any remnants of the old version of Raw Therapee.
I have an issue with my ArcSoft TV program. Recently something changed and now I get the UAC pop up asking if I want this program to make changes to my computer.Issue is this, I can set to record a program, but with the pop up now coming up, I have to be avaliable to click to record the progarm.Currently I have the UAC set not to ask (pop up). However I understand the reason for the UAC asking and I prefer it to ask. So what I need is a way to allow ArcSoft to run without the pop up, but all other programs to ask for security. What is the way to do this for this one program?
This is a resent problem that is happening to my laptop. For the past few weeks every time I change my background picture it goes back to the one i changed it from after I restart my computer. I have had the computer almost a year now and have been able to change the background when ever I have wanted to until a few weeks ago.
