View 9 RepliesI have a few programs in XP that I needed to create a shortcut, then copy the shortcut to the Startup group, in order for the program to start on bootup. However, I cannot see how to do that in Windows 7.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post on the forums and I was wondering if there is any way to have an application run on startup but do so in the background, where it just shows on the lower right task bar?

Basically, the title sums it all up. Everytime I load the windows 7 professional, the 3 programs loads itself up too. Both Word and Excel starts with an empty page. IE9 will try to connect to the internet. And I can't seem to disable them from autostart. I have looked in the Startup folder. It's empty. I've tried msconfig. I don't see anything related to IE9, or MSOffice in there.

I made 2 partitions C being 30gb(supposed to be 450gb) and D being the 450gb(supposed to be 30gb). How do I switch partitions? Make C become D and vice versa?
Also, how do I make everything I download and install in the future use
is there a program/software that i can buy to have my system run faster? i find the "defrag" not really effective as advertised by microsoft.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have found tutorials (here and elsewhere) for custom Windows (7/XP/Vista...) install disks, should you wish to tailor your Windows install to your needs. However, I have not found anything relating to my current question. While I will create one of these Windows disks, what I am wondering right now is: Is it possible to do the same thing with multiple programs from different vendors?I would like to eventually create a Windows install disk that has been trimmed of all the excesses I do not need, adding drivers, SP1 and some critical updates instead. If there is enough room on the install disk, I would like to add some third-party programs to be installed as well. It may turn out that I would need a Windows disk and an applications/programs disk also (as the programs themselves would be rather numerous and/or bulky).I know it is possible, since the big OEMs do this, but would it be cost-efficient (read: free), or even possible, for an end user to do

View 5 Replies View RelatedUntil last Saturday, I had Windows Home Premium 64-bit running flawlessly with no issues worth mentioning. However, with the releasen of the Windows 8 Release Preview, I decided to try it, not realizing that it involved essentially a complete change of OS rather than simply being a more limited time "trial". That was very foolish of me, and it turned out that both the removal of the start feature as well as the fact that my internet speed was more than halved, made Windows 8 unbearable for me. I decided to reinstall Windows 7. My Windows 7 CD however was at my parents' house, and as I live half the country away at the moment, I decided to download a pirated Windows 7 from a torrent site, but I got my father to send me my Windows 7 activation key, so Windows now says my copy is "genuine". (Bonus question: is this legal? I.e downloading pirated software that you own, then using your own key rather than a crack to use it?).I got Windows 7 reinstalled alright it seems, but all the contents of my hard disk ended up in a folder called "Windows.old". That seemed a minor issue, but it also seemed like Windows doesn't recognize the programs installed in that folder. I decided to simply cut the folders inside windows.old and paste them into (C (i.e users, program files, program files x86 - bonus question 2; it seems most my programs, especially games, i.e Starcraft 2, Witcher 2, SKyrim etc are in "program files x86".. does this matter?). After struggling with permissions for an hour or so, I skipped pasting the few conflicts between the folders, and ended up with my program files and users folder looking a lot like before. However, Windows still doesn't recognize most of the programs I now have saved in program files and program files x86, and many of the .exe files there don't work. So finally, to my actual question: Is there any way I can make Windows recognize all the programs I pasted from windows.old into program files? I've already wasted many hours wrestiling with the retarded permission system in Windows, updating windows, reinstalling drivers etc; it would be nice not having to reinstall the dozens of programs I had installed, or finding the hundreds of addons I have downloaded over the last two years.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo over the past few days it seems that I have lost control of my C drive and all of its contents.I can no longer properly access it, and everything opens in "Read-Only". I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. Nor can I change my permissions because in order to change them I need access to the C drive, which I don't have.I have tried creating other users and putting them in the admin group, etc. but nothing is working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to take my Windows 7 from 32-bit to-64 bit. I know that to get from a 32 bit OS to 64 bit you have to do a clean install. Problem is, i upgraded to 7 from Vista about a year ago using a 32 bit version downloadable installer so there's no discs with 32 and 64 bit version. So I guess my real question is can i use a 32 bit upgrade version's key on a 64 bit non-upgrade version? I could download a 64 bit version ISO and do a clean install with that, right?.as long as the key i already have would work?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomeone want to explain how the hell you make a bootable ISO from these leaked builds?
Everything I try is FUBAR.
Edit: Okay..nevermind..I Frankenstein it and figured it out finally..I just copied the install files onto my USB flash drive and rebooted and set to boot to USB drive.
No need for an ISO
Edit 2: ...Okay..I give up..I get an error during install saying Windows can't install the required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. bla bla
Anyone else getting this with the 32bit leaked copy that just came out?
i recently acquired a virus that i've now taken care of, but it seems to have left my computer damaged. i can't change my wallpaper, for one. and whenever i save or upload something (for example, when i want to upload a video on to Internet and you get that window pop-up where it gives you the option to upload something from a certain location), the location for desktop is completely missing when i use one of my browsers - i can't access it at all.
i've also noticed recently that i can't even make changes to my desk top icons. i arrange it by date -for instance- and when i restart the computer, it goes back to the way it was before the change?

I have a new hdd and I got a dvd with Windows 7.
Unfortunately it isnt bootable, so how can I make it bootable?
I only have a laptop(with dvd burner) an empty dvd and the Windows 7 dvd.
So how can I make it bootable?
Rip the files off, and then?
Maybe it's a stupid question,but I can't figure it out how...?
At this moment,I have Win 7 buil 7000 32 bit installed,and I want install x64 version,so I have downloaded Windows 7 build 7048 x64,but it's not a bootable ISO file.
I managed to make an ISO,but have never did and don't know how to make a bootable ISO file,I have already tried several programs(PowerISO,MagicDisc,ImgBurn,Nero 8),but every time I burn an image on disc,it doesn't work.
If there is someone who is willling to explain me correct way step by step,I'll be really greatful.
