Windows 7 Laptop Adds Number To Ssid?
Jul 12, 2010I have a laptop that's running Win7 ultimate. I can connect to my home wireless network, but it add's a number to the end of my ssid. If it says ssid (4) than I will have problems connecting to internet and other computers on my network, but if it says ssid (2) than I have no problems. The question I have is how to keep my laptop from adding the numbers to my ssid, so I have no problems connecting to my home wireless network?

Nov 4, 2010I found out that if a file has an extra dot before the extension, e.g. book1..xls (or book1. if you have "hide known file extensions" enabled in Folder Options), then the following will occur. If you right click the file, click Send to, click Mail Recipient, a new mail window opens up with the attachment of the file RENAMED TO book1._xls. I.e. the extra dot is replaced with an underscoreAlso, the funny thing is if there are additional dots before the extension, only the 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc. dots will be replaced with underscores.That means if the dot JUST BEFORE the extension is in an even-number position (counting from left to right), it will be replaced with "_", making the file extension looking like "_xls" and thus the attachment will be unopenable by your recipient unless he or she manually deletes the undercore from the extension.E.g. book1...xls will become book1._.xls; file name changed but still openable.But book1....xls will become book1._._xls; file becomes unopenable.This does not happen in Outlook Express. Jan 4, 2012My PC is connected to two monitors, one to EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448, the other to IGP, both with DVI-D. The former is the main, mostly for me, while the other is used for my wife to watch streaming video. This setting has no problem when I do web surfing or work on office, but reveals an issue when I want to play game, because of two different audio sources - streaming video vs. game. First, I enabled multiple streaming device on Realtek Audio Manager, and then set a game, Portal 2 in this case, audio to headphone. But still two audio sources are being played on speaker.

Audio Crackling When Playing Video Files Via WMC And WMP
Feb 23, 2012When using the WMC I have noticed crackling sounds when playing m2ts video files containing AVC and AC-3. I have noticed crackling sounds primarily on start up of the video file and sporadically during playback. At first I thought it might be a hw issue but now I'm not so sure. BTW the video playback appears to be okay...just a problem with the audio.
On the windows sw side I am fully up to date i.e. with Windows 7 HP x64.
On the hardware side I have updated by video and audio drivers to the latest...in fact all the drivers are upto date. The Machine is an Acer Aspire X1470 desktop model with 4 GB of ram. AMD Radeon HD 6410D Graphics (display adapter). AMD A4-3400 APU.
I have tried connecting the audio thru the on-board sound system. I've also tried using an external USB based sound I/F. Which one I use makes no difference...The crackling still comes thru.
Part of the reason I'm led to believe this is not strickly a hw issue is because I've tried playing these same files with XBMC and they play cleanly. So it would seem there is some kind of interaction issue hw and sw when using WMC on this computer. BTW I've tried using WMP (my preferred choice) but the audio and video degradation is markedly worse than WMC. I've included the Media info data for one of the files I've played below:

Windows 7 Freezing When Playing Audio / Video
Sep 29, 2012I've done some very basic things, such as update my drivers that needed to be updated, I've also scanned for possible RAT's and malware. Malwarebytes and DarkComet Remover did pop up malware, and they were removed. I have also done a System Restore on this laptop, and well, nothing has worked either. I have anime and media on this computer. (All were backed up just in case the bombshell dropped on this laptop.) This is a issue with drivers, and not the internal parts. I really do not want to loose any of them, or even format the laptop. This laptop works 100% fine while running in Safe Mode w/ Networking, but when I hit a video or audio, it just freezes.

Everything sound-wise has been working til a few days ago, but I have been working through some video problems.Since this started on Friday, the sound mixer/volume control shows sound playing. But nothing comes out the speakers. When I click the top, it doesn't say 'speakers', it says 'Realtek audio'. When I click that, the sound window comes up and under "jacks" it says "rear optical jack." The top says S/PDIF. Those are both formats that I have never used on this system.I've always used only the rear panel analog jack.Anyways, I feel like I've tried everything under the sun and I'm close to RMA'ing the motherboard.

Nov 29, 2012Yesterday when I got home I could not get my headset working on my PC. It's a USB headset (Tritton AX720) but it works perfectly on my Xbox 360. There is sound coming from the headset but it is really quiet. My speakers to my computer work fine, it's just when I plug the headset in I'm not getting sound. I was working on it for about an hour last night and I can't figure out what is wrong with it. So far I've tried to make it my default audio device, I did a system restore to a few days ago, and messed with the setting a little bit. This headset has worked on my PC for about 6-8 months up until yesterday. By the way my audio for my computer is still working perfectly. It is only when I plug my headset in that it isn't working properly. I'm completely lost on what is wrong.

Jun 17, 2012My computer was recently RMA'd due to a faulty PSU and video card. I just received it back and the speakers that I used before no longer work. I figured it was a driver issue and simply downloaded the RealTek drivers but it didn't fix the problem. The AMD card comes with its own drivers. I had problems in the past with their HD audio codecs and tried uninstalling them but that didn't seem to fix it either. I went into device manager and located that there were drivers installed and they checked out. I checked for hidden or disabled devices in "Playback devices" and didn't find any.
Things I've tried:
- Installing audio drivers.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers.
- System restore.
- Checking proper connection of speakers.
- Verification that speakers work.
By just looking at the audio mixer, it would appear that the system is playing sounds because there is activity in the mixer when a song or other sounds are playing. The problem is there is nothing coming from the speakers. Is it possible that my audio ports on the motherboard could be faulty?

Sep 21, 2012Recently the hiccups that happen when playing hich bitrate audio (happens in 320 kbps and not in 192) and videos (HD) started to really annoy me so I came here.I have windows 7, intel i7 870 processor, roland UA-4FX USB sound card, radeon hd5800 graphics card, and 4gb ram, I think all of them have up to date drivers.The clicking intensifies when doing rather CPU-heavy things like opening microsoft word but it is always there in high bitrate files, but the CPU load never goes above 20% in task manager.The hiccups are such that audio playback stops for a very short time periodically and making a click sound as if you removed the cable of the speaker.

Jun 9, 2010So, my computer is crashing while I play games like Left 4 Dead or Bad Company 2When it crashes, sound starts looping and I get a black screen and there might be somekind of corruption on the screen. Black screen stays there for some time (5-10 secs, not sure about the exact time) and then the computer reboots. After I boot back in to Windows, a window pops-up telling that Windows has recovered from bluescreen but I didn't see any bluescreen coming up. figured it might be something to do with heat but after I logged the temperatures, I'm not so sure about it anymore. At the moment of the crash, GPU was at 94�C and processor cores were at 66�C , 65�C , 67�C , 65�C so the temperatures seem to be fine.

May 21, 2012I wanted to start this thread about my computer that shuts down as soon as certain games start.I have an alienware Area 51 ALX
12 gb ram
amd 6990 saphire card (I have 2 but removed one and get the same problem)
I7-975
CPU is liquid cooled
1.2 kw power supply
(Almost all the parts from the motherboard, video cards, radiator, fans, power supply, have been replaced already and the error continues.)
Troubleshooting I did:
Ran this dell mem test thing and all memory passed
Checked cpu using torture test with prime95: no errors
used GPU-Z: temps dont seem to get that high
The games dont even run this is on a clean install of windows 7 nothing else installed except fresh video card drivers 12.4 and steam. As soon as I switch this one game Cursed crusade for example to 1920x1080 resolution the computer just reboots, no bsod or anything. Other games once the game starts it reboots.At this point they want me to do a system exchange, the problem is my machine they dont make anymore, which would mean downsizing to an alienware aurora that with dual 6990's I am pretty sure would melt.I would like to keep this system so I would rather find a solution since it may be something that I have not checked.I see the same error as previously before doing a clean install. (also os is on diff hard drive now)
I get event Id 41 kernel-power The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first this error could be caused if the system stopped responding, or lost power unexpectedly.

Hard disk has changed, changed RAM. Nothing yet.I bought a new graphics NVIDIA GTX 460, and put a new power supply from the 550w Does anyone have a solution or to change the motherboard, everything but the game works!?

Sep 30, 2009I have a problem running MMORPG games on Windows 7, they are: warhammer online and Aion. At some point during game (could be anything between 5 minutes and hour) the game freezes and speakers start repeating annoying sound (almost always same sound).
Can you please help to understand the nature of my problem and fix it?
I have tried following:
- Run Aion as administrator
- Run Aion in WinXP SP3 compatibility mode
- Disable system notifications for all accounts
- Disable firewall
- Install native windows GPU drivers (prior I had ndvidia latest drivers)
- Use pci network card (I've read about problems with Atheros netwrok cards) and disable built-in one
- Run FurMark test for maximum PC load
- Run BurnIn test to load: CPU, GPU, RAM, Network card, Hard drive
- Disable memory remapping in bios
What I have learned:
- I usually set up burn in test to run for 6 hours. All tests before I replaced newtwork card whcih did not stress it were successful. Two of two tests which stressed newtwork card result in same freeze. After network card replacement two tests whcih also stressed network card were successful.
Computer Will Not Go To Sleep When Playing Video
Nov 20, 2011This is a problem that has only been occurring over the last month or 2 (had my computer for 2/3years). Quite often I will watch something on my computer when i go to bed - either a dvd, or streaming something from a website. Sometimes i fall asleep whilst these programmes are still playing and i will wake up in the morning to find my computer and monitor still turned on, instead of doing what they should do - monitor to turn off after 20minutes, computer to sleep after 45minutes.The computer will go to sleep after the desired time if its not doing anything at all so i assume it has something to do with the media settings/files. I have a custom plans setting for power options and in advanced settings > multimedia, it IS set to 'allow the computer to sleep when sharing media, so im not sure what else to try.As an additional note, this is something ive started to notice but im not so sure how relevant it is:The odd thing is, it seems to vary when it decides it wants to sleep. I was playing things through windows media player and it wouldnt sleep after 45minutes.. so i tried playing things through vlc media player instead. That seemed to work as the computer would go to sleep, so i figured it was just the programme causing the problem, but then after a few days of using vlc the computer wouldnt sleep anymore. The same goes for streaming stuff - using megavideo the computer wouldnt sleep, but when it was streamed from videobb it would. Then after a few days of using videobb it would stop going to sleep again...

Jan 3, 2013After my last graphics card has died on me (HD6850), I have been able to borrow a friends GFX Card (HD5770) and have been having a strange problem - this problem is not unique to my computer, it also was happening in his computer when using the same GFX Card.What happens is that the computer will be running just fine, until I open a game. After opening a game it will run perfectly but then every minute of so it will freeze the whole computer for maybe 5-10 seconds. Whilst doing this the sound of hardware being removing and reinserting will play (the same sound that happens if you was to unplug and re insert a usb stick) And then this will persist as long as I have the game open, closing the game makes the problem go away.
