Wirless USB Mouse Not Working After Windows 7 Update
Jun 29, 2011
He has an Dell laptop computer that runs on Windows 7.He has a basic, Microsoft brand, three button wireless USB mouse.Earlier this morning Windows Update manager gave him a pop-up that said he had updates to install. He installed the updates and restarted the computer. When he restarted, his mouse wouldn't work the keyboard works fine. He tried unplugging and reconnecting the mouse and to resynching the mouse, restarting his computer with the mouse unplugged as well as plugged in, and switching the USB port of the connector, but was unsuccessful in getting it to work and asked for my help.Seeing that the mouse appeared to be working (and it's worked flawlessly until this morning), I repeated the steps he had taken and then removed and reinstalled the drivers in the case a driver had become corrupted when updating Windows 7. Upon reinstalling the drivers and restarting the mouse worked again for about five minutes. Five minutes later, it stopped working.

I have a USB mouse which works fine when it is plugged in at boot time.
When I then (when Win7 is already up) plug the USB mouse out and 10 seconds later back in again then it is not working any more.
Another USB mouse on another Win7 computer does not have such problems.

when I boot up my laptop it takes forever for my laptop to connect to my wireless router. Not sure if it is slow because it is trying to automatically connect or if it takes so long to connect because my OS is still not quite done loading? Does anyone have a suggestion on what to try?

I know many people, me amongst them, have been looking for the (64-bit) drivers for this card that will work on Windows 7. I've finally found a link to a driver that seems to be it:
Download Railink RT2561/RT2661/RT2500 (RT61) Driver v.1.2.8.0/2.1.6.0/3.0.1.0 | Catalog - X-DRIVERS.COM: eXtremly full software portal
I'd love for someone who has Windows 7 installed to check and confirm this. I won't install windows 7 before I know my wireless internet will work on it.

I am in process of doing custom Home premium 64 bit install on my desktop.
I've done this on notebook with lots of problem only resolved by setting wireless connection to get to Internet to download new mouse driver since the old driver disc showed that its mouse drivers would not work.
Fortunately I still was able to use touchpad to move mouse to get to Internet.
My concern is, after i update to windows 7, if I can't use mouse on desktop machine(I have USB mouse and keyboard.), what do I do to be able to continue setting up Windows 7?
Hopefully this makes sense.

installed the R/C last night. When it finally was done installing doing an upgrade from 32-bit vista to windows 7, the final reset loads up and i cannot use either my mouse or keyboard. I have tried pluggng them into every usb slot i have, restarted with both plugged in and not plugged in.tried the 2 other mice and another keyboad. One being a microsoft keyboard that. The keyboard does work when choosing between the different loadup options, but still doesn't work in safemode. When i try to reinstall either Vista with my bootup cd or with the copy of windows xp i have, it starts the loadup , but keeps getting the blue screen before the install even starts.

I'm running Windows 7 and when it gets to the login screen the mouse doesn't work, I *think* the keyboard works because it works in the BIOS but have no need to use the keyboard until I can use the mouse to click on one of the user names. I also can't boot into safe mode without it loading about 1/2 way and then the computer restarts. If I run startup repair it tells me "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and says that it's because of a AutoFailover. There was a BIOS mismatch error a few days ago but I haven't seen anything since and am not sure what that would've affected. If I boot a Windows recovery disc the mouse and keyboard work fine but not if I attempt to boot normal. This system has been running with zero issues since December.

Whenever I go to open a tab in Firefox, close a program, highlight my task bar, click anywhere, windows won't register it and I cant do anything. Like other people, the temporary fix is it hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and the problem goes away, but it always comes back.I recently installed Sw:ToR and I think there seems to be a connection, for this problem hasnt happened to me before, only after I started playing this game. In The Old Republic, sometimes the UI will bug out and whenever I go to highlight a skill or a quickslot button, I was forced to reload the UI by hitting Ctrl+U twice. That would fix the problem in the game. That exact problem that is in this game has somehow made its way onto how my PC works. I can be clicking and highlighting things just fine, but for some reason, it just won't be able to highlight anything that is pinned to my task bar or even click anything there.

After updating with KB2507938, his USB wireless mouse and keyboard stop working. Apparently his regular, wired keyboard works. Doing a System Restore fixes the problem, but after turning the computer off and then on, etc., the update reapplies itself.

I have a PC with a Gigabyte mother board and an i3 processor with 8gig ram and 2 tb hard drive. When I got the computer, it was running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. Once I checked the computer, and found it was 64 bit compatible, I installed the 64 bit version. I did this as a new install. I have had nothing but problems since. I have an intelli mouse which clicks away when I try to go back or forward on a web page. If I try to check a box, it checks and then automaticaly unchecks. I have to keep clicking on it until the check stays. Some web pages won't even work, ie Bank of America Website. I can go to anything I want to except My Portfolio. It causes IE9 to shut down. When I try to open programs, it opens multiple times. I have formatted and re-installed again, but still have the same problems.

I have a dell latitude with windows 7. After a year of usage the mouse clicks suddenly stopped working. Left clicks stopped working all together, right click sometimes work, but most of time it does other things. I suspect it's some malware. I run avg, spybot and malwarebytes, which found nothing. Checked the mouse settings in control panel, and didn't fine anything strange.

I am running windows 7 Home premium on a Samsung laptop 64bit , 3.00 GB ram dual core CPU T4500. I had to send computer to be repaired under warranty and the hard disk was replaced. after this repair, I was trying start a game software and this would not run because it said that D3DX9_45.dll was mising in my computer. I have tried the DirectX upgrade and it starts loading ok, but at the end of the installation an error comes up saying that Direct could not be installed. I have also found that the windows update is not working because the service is not running. I have looked in the service data and the Windows update is running.

i've been unable to do a windows update, it simply doesn't start and gives me an error message. When I tried SFC/SCANNOW in the command prompt, the scan completed and I got:Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files, but was unable to fix some of them. So that's about where I got to.

I never get a blue screen, the computer never just restarts, the mouse just seems to stop moving, and this has been happening since I got my computer about 3 months ago. Whenever this happens all I can do is turn the power off and restart. Going through my event logs the only common occurrence is that right before I am turning off my computer I get "Filter Manager - Event ID - 6". This is not recorded as an error, but happens right before "Kernel Power - Event ID - 41" which I believe is when I push the power button to restart.

I bought a SSD, installed it, installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Got into windows and everything was fantastic. Installed all the windows updates, video card drivers, ect... Then rebooted the computer and lo and behold, it doesn't recognize the SSD as a valid boot device anymore. Assuming that the install corrupted somehow, I decided to run startup repair on the Windows 7 disk. However once the disk gets past "Windows is loading files" all the lights on my mouse and keyboard shut off and they stop working. However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is... I literally JUST used this same disk to install windows 7 and had no issues less than 30 minutes ago... The only advice I've been able to find thus far has been to ensure that legacy USB settings are enabled, and they are. Also, if I boot into windows on a different drive that has the OS installed my mouse and keyboard work just fine in windows as well. As it stands now I cannot fix my windows install or even reinstall windows...However up until that point they work fine, if I go into BIOS they work no problem. I have no idea what the issue is..

I get a message to restart but nothing happens.I've already tried sfc/scannow, fix it, windows troubleshooting, fixit50123 and Fixit 50202 but the problem still remains. Somebody told me that cleanup registry that tune up maintenance is using propably causes the problem but don't know how to reverse the clean up

I recently changed my settings for Windows Update, to let it check for updates, but now it always asks for a restart. I tried almost every solution, i don't know what to do, i need SP1 for SQL Server 2012 to work, but it's not installing. I even downloaded the update from microsoft's website, but the installer fails. I tried almost every method i found :
- setting it to never update, then setting it back to automatic
- deleting the registry keys from the Update-er
- deleting the files in SoftwareDistribution
- trying FixIt (normal and aggressive mode)
- trying the FixIt method manually
- renaming the edb.log file in the SoftwareDistribution folder via safe-mode.
I can't give you an error number, since it doesn't show one.

The laptop I'm working on (And HP G series; running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium) had a NASTY trojan that disabled the keyboard and mouse (is what I'm assuming). I was able to work on the laptop with a USB mouse and the onscreen keyboardAfter going through about 10 AV software I finally got rid of all the Trojans (the scans on various AV software ran clean multiple times after removal); but the keyboard and trackpad continue to be disabled.Under the Device Manager it lists as the device as a "code 10" error.Doing some Googling I found a post that said do delete the registry entries that were labeled "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"; which I did and I rebooted. Now my USB mouse OR my USB keyboard won't work.I tried using a Linux Live CD and the trackpad and keyboard DOES work there no problem. Also the keyboard works fine when I'm in the BIOS.It's only when I'm in Windows (even in Safe Mode) that the keyboard/trackpad/USB Mouse/USB Keyboard doesn't work...so it's not a hardware problem.Things I've tried (besides deleting those registry entries)- Startup Repair- sfc /scannow- Reinstall the drivers (when I DID have access to Keyboard and Mouse)So to recap; I cannot use the keyboard/trackpad (or a USB Mouse and USB Keyboard) in Windows (including safe mode); but they DO work when not using Windows.
