View 2 RepliesHe has an Dell laptop computer that runs on Windows 7.He has a basic, Microsoft brand, three button wireless USB mouse.Earlier this morning Windows Update manager gave him a pop-up that said he had updates to install. He installed the updates and restarted the computer. When he restarted, his mouse wouldn't work the keyboard works fine. He tried unplugging and reconnecting the mouse and to resynching the mouse, restarting his computer with the mouse unplugged as well as plugged in, and switching the USB port of the connector, but was unsuccessful in getting it to work and asked for my help.Seeing that the mouse appeared to be working (and it's worked flawlessly until this morning), I repeated the steps he had taken and then removed and reinstalled the drivers in the case a driver had become corrupted when updating Windows 7. Upon reinstalling the drivers and restarting the mouse worked again for about five minutes. Five minutes later, it stopped working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know many people, me amongst them, have been looking for the (64-bit) drivers for this card that will work on Windows 7. I've finally found a link to a driver that seems to be it:
Download Railink RT2561/RT2661/RT2500 (RT61) Driver v.1.2.8.0/2.1.6.0/3.0.1.0 | Catalog - X-DRIVERS.COM: eXtremly full software portal
I'd love for someone who has Windows 7 installed to check and confirm this. I won't install windows 7 before I know my wireless internet will work on it.
I have a fairly new machine, and it's been working fine for a couple of months. Windows 72600k i716GB Corsair Vengeance DDR32 Galaxy 560ti (1GB) in SLI The cursor moves around smoothly, but I see lags in various general tasks, like dragging a selection window on the desktop, moving windows around, playing audio and video, opening new windows, everything really. HOWEVER, I checked the task manager/performance monitor, and my system is using no more than 1-5% of the CPU, barely any of my memory, and there are no processes that seem unusual. I also tried disabling SLI, as well as turning down graphics settings... these didn't stop the lag.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI use my laptop for general use but also for processor intensive home studio audio recording. Rather than disable wirless, anti-virus software and a bunch of other things that can help me reduce processor drain each and every time I use it for music, I'd love to be able to have a different profile or maybe user account so that when I start up and choose that user/profile, wireless will automatically be disabled, most non-essential software (such as anti virus since I am not online) will not be run, etc.
I created a second user that I intended to use for the music related work. However, when I look at the hidden startup folder associated with either user, I see nothing (I have chosen to view hidden folders and files). If I run msconfig, I see many programs on the startup list. Amongst those are is antivirus software. It appears that when I deselect any program, it will not run regardless of which user I log in as, so it must be some sort of global setting. I still want most programs to run when I log in to use the laptop for general use (e.g. when I surf the web, I want the antivirus software to be active), so making such a global change does not seem to help me.My question is, can I somehow make these programs run only when I log in as a certain user? If not, is there another possible solution that would allow me to achieve the goals described above? Also, is there a way to selectively activate/deactivate wireless depending on which user I log in as?
ive been having real problems with BSOD even when my computer is left alone, i have already reinstalled windows 7 home premium 64bit and the BSOD has kept on happening, i have updated all my drivers to the most recent versions to the best of my knowledge. I built the system myself i have tried everything i know of.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using vista x86 up untill windows 7 came out, it was the I decided to go for my first x64 operating system. I have an i7 and 3gb ram.
Ever since I've moved over, games take up a stupid amount of memory, they'll go to 80 - 90%. I recently decided to install Crysis Warhead as I never got round to completing it, last time I played it I was on vista x86 and it ran fine. However now, it takes forever to load and/or freezes because there's no memory left.
I've tried setting the page file at 200 - 1024, 1024 - 1024 and turning it off, none of that makes a difference. I tried increasing it to 4096-4096 just out of curiosity, that managed to load the game, however, while I did have a constant 50-60fps I was lagging really badly and had 91% ram usage.
Am I missing something here, does anyone else have this issue?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having BSOD for a while now. It happens during extended general use, or when playing games (really only minecraft). However, when I turn the power settings to "Power saver" I do not usually get a crash (not as far as i remember anyhow). But I would rather not have to use that mode, because it makes using more than one window at a time slow, and severely impacts game performance.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did some work on my system yesterday and I removed my DVD/RW drive along with some cable management. Now that you can buy alot of software online and install it without the need for an optical drive, is one even needed anymore?
I have an external DVD/RW (USB2) that I occasionally use with my netbook. Can I use that to install Windows and other software that I still have a disk for (3 or 4 programs)? I'll also use it to burn ISO's (Linux) should I need to.
Yesterday my computer just went into a sleep mod, after rebooting the PC the screen resolution + internet was really weird. After installing new driver for my graphic card the resolution problem was fixed. But the internet was still "broken". In the network and sharing -> adapter it's says that I'am enabled but not connected.
I've tried:
- Ping 127.0.0.1 and got "Transmit failed. General failure".
- Net stock winmgmt + netsh etc.
- Uninstalled the firewall.
- Turned off the computer for 10 min and removed my RAM for 10 min.
- Got a new network adapter.
- System restore.
At first, I had a failing processor, and I managed to replace it, then Ireformatted my system. But then, I was receiving multiple BSODs after that, brought it to a computer store downtown, and they determined the problem as a corrupt install of Windows 7, and proceeded to reformat it themselves. I assume they also updated all the drivers, but I'm not sure. And just now, my computer won't wake up after sleeping, I've received a BSOD in the middle of playing TF2, started up the computer again, another BSOD while starting TF2, start up again, about to google a few things, and another BSOD.Windows 7 64 bit, originally Windows 7 64bit as well, this is the 2nd reformat. The hardware itself is about 1.5 years old, except a replacement processor, which is about 1 or 2 months old.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi recently upgraded my system with a new graphics card and ssds, and a new psu. i installed windows 7 x64, and now i've had 2 bsods within 24 hours. the first one occured while i was playing deus ex: human revolution. the error was 0x0000003b and the faulty file was dxgmms1.sys. i reinstalled the graphics drivers and it hasn't shown up anymore. now, i was installing gta iv and watching a video on Internet, and got another bsod, this time with error 0x000000be. i can't seem to isolate this problem. i've attached the files in the zip archive. also, i think its worth mentioning that the when i installed windows, i used a 32bit driver for the ssd raid 0 array since windows wouldn't take the 64 bit driver because it wasnt signed(although the driver did have the signature file on the disk). after the installation finished, windows automatically updated the raid driver.

If the System is not able to create System restore point try to Create the restore point manually. If you are unable to create a system restore point manually then you could try these steps.
View 0 Replies View RelatedOne of my computers keeps crashing while doing tasks like browsing files on the HDD or surfing the web. I'm attaching a copy of the minidump file. I've looked at the result from the Windows Debugging Tool, but I'm not sure how to read it as it's my first time. I did note the names "fltmgr.sys" and "SearchIndexer" stand out.I'd like to point out that no new programs were installed prior to the BSOD's and that I've updated all of the drivers that I could find for the motherboard since the BSOD's. I could not get the BIOS to be updated because Gigabyte doesn't seem to have a 64-bit version available. I'm currently running a thorough disk check on the HDD.

- Internet stops working
- Computer becomes sluggish
- Seems to crash while multi-tasking (multiple windows, downloading+browsing, etc.)
- Windows Update is unable to install SP1 for this machine. It downloads but fails to install.
This December just been I got a 2Tb hard drive, a stock standard Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm. I have noticed in recent weeks, that when I access this drive, perhaps to copy files, read them, rename them, import files to it, download files to it, etc, etc etc, it causes some pretty shocking instability in my opinion. Programs at random will stop responding, as I type this, skype randomly froze while I was chatting to a friend, and it took 5 minutes to get it to close and restart. On top of this, windows explorer just loses it, it will hang to the point I cant even access task manager, file transfers will crawl along, and random explorer windows will briefly freeze. A corrupted windows install? Corrupted files? Any ideas? I will re-install windows if absolutely necessary, however if its a matter of corrupted files, the files are almost entirely irreplaceable, I would need a way to single out the problematic files and remove them, so I need a method to do this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy connection keeps going out randomly and my computer is just having general bad connectivity. I know it is my computer because no other computers in the household are having this problem. I'm not really good with internet issues, but I've reset my router, restarted my computer, turned off firewall and antivirus. Those didn't work, and I did try using a ethernet cable but it didn't work any better.
Windows IP Configuration: ........
I used to run my PC on Vista Ultimate 64bit and was very happy ith its performance, but after seeing it forget the window layout for the umpteenth time, I decided to install Windows 7. Purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Systembuilder package, formatted all my drives and installed it. Turns out there was a problem with the boot manager. The repair function of the installation DVD didn't really do anything, so I re-installed the whole thing and this time it worked ... sort of.
I get to see my desktop pretty quickly, but then it takes more than 2 minutes to load the 3 sidebar gadgets, open Wampserver (which I need for work) and connect to my home network. During that time the CPU is near idle (1-10% CPU usage) but it won't respond to any commands. The "Computer" won't open, right-click menus don't open, etc. In Vista I could play GTA4 with all settings maxed out at 55fps. Now the PC is struggling to reach 30.
Before the install, I have re-downloaded all my drivers from the various manufacturers' websites, to make sure they were all for Windows 7 x64. The Device manager isn't indicating any problems either. I'm having all kinds of internet-related software problems (Skype failing to make calls, Wampserver not showing full connection, etc) and even resorted to another re-install recently. On Vista the problems disappeared and it responded instantly, but I then installed Windows 7 again and I'm back at square one.

The GFX card and PSU are 2.5 years old, but the rest of the PC was bought in March 2011. The motherboard was replaced in May due to suffering from the known SandyBridge issue with the S-ATA controller.
Software-wise:
I run the usual stuff. LibreOffice, Paintshop Pro, etc. Wampserver is required for my work, but that doesn't give any problems on my Windows 7 laptop. The problem appears on a default system, so I'm pretty sure that none of my applications are responsible. Normally I don't use an antivirus on this PC. I'm a careful browser and have another machine with AVG for downloading.
My niece is logged into the computer as administrator and cannot remember the password. We have another general account that we can access however we cant run any programs on the computer at all cos it keeps asking for the administrators password!!!!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently obtained a number of large video files. They have several different file types (file extensions). Among those types are:
.AVI .MKV .MPG .MPE .MP4 .WMV
There are other types as well.I'd very much like to perform some simple editing on these files. The most common editing operation is to extract or "split" a large file into several smaller component files. In other words, each of thse large files contain several small files - all strung together. For example, there may be 4 or 5 video clips in each file. Instead of creating one file for each "clip", the person who created these files just concatenated them all together in one file. So, I'd like to "split" each of these clips out of the single file and create a number of separate files - one for each clip.In addition, I would very much like to be able to convert files of one type to another type.I don't know a lot about the attributes of the various file types. I've read about them in Wikipedia and so I know a lttle about the reasons these file types were created and what the various differences are among them. The main reason that I'd like to convert most of these files to a single file type is that I consider it kind of sloppy to leave these files in there original file types.I have used the app Irfanview in the past to perform similar conversions on "still" files such as .JPEG or .GIF files.
1) How easy or difficult is it to convert video files from one type to another?
2) Should I expect to find one app that can do both editing and conversions? Or should I expect to get several different apps - some to convert files and some to edit files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some 590 gtx problems and I believe it is just a bad card but I wanted to post it on here and get an opinion from some others. First things first, bought the card brand new about 2 weeks ago. When I got the card I put it in boot up windows and got the newest drivers for the 590 gtx. After the installation was complete I restarted windows, when I booted back up and tried running the nvidia control center it said "You are not currently using a displayed attached to a nvidia GPU." I thought this was weird so went into display manager and looked and saw that the 590 gtx was there but was reading "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." After this I clean uninstall all the drivers and started installing other drivers. This problem occurred for every driver set except for the drivers that came with the installation disc which I believe are the 267.xx drivers. Thus worked and I was able to run the nvidia control center and utilize the 590, after about 10 mins i got a BSOD with a BCCode 116. After some research I realized that the error I was getting was because of failure to connect with the video card due to hardware or software issues so it timed out, thus causing the BSOD. This continued to happen every 10 to 15mins on these drivers. I have to mention this is over the course of 3 clean re-formats of windows 7. Also I stuck my old video card in which is a Radeon HD 4750 x2 and worked fine and is what I have been using on this system since I built it 3 weeks ago.
