Windows Won't Reboot After Moving To Hybrid HDD

Sep 25, 2012

I've been trying to migrate Windows 7 to a new 250G Seagate Hybrid SSD.I used Clonezilla to clone the three parititions (the main C: drive with Windows, the 100M hinden drive and the recovery drive - don't know if this is HP specific?). The cloning worked fine. I then disconnect the original HDD and restarted. When the PC boots from the new hybrid drive - it just has the flashing cursor in the top left hand corner of the screen? I've tried running the Windows repair disk several times - it did some work but to no effect. It did though recognise the partition where Windows was and labled it C:.Every time I boot from the disk it just gives me the flashing cursor in the top corner of the screen.

Windows 7 Home 64 Bit, Not Detecting Rest Of Hard Drive In Hybrid SSD?

Nov 14, 2012

I purchased Dell Inspiron i14z Ultrabook, it has a hybrid SSD, it have 32gb SSD and the rest 470gb hard drive. It had Windows 8 and I couldn't stand it...I changed the BIOS settings from Intel Smart Response to AHCI, used Wipe Drive, (which detected the hybrid SSD as two separate hard drives) to format both hard drives, installed Windows 7 on the 32gb Hard Drive (I assume this is the SSD part), and everything went great. But when I click MyComputer, it only shows 32GB as my hard drive, how do I set the settings where it would show the rest of the hard drive that is not SSD?Whenever I change the AHCI setting back to Intel Smart Response Technology, it gives me a brief Blue Screen of Death briefly, then restarts in a loop.

Use Hybrid Sleep On Laptop?

Jul 7, 2012

On my laptop, the drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt and I don't know whether it is better to have my PC set to sleep, hibernate or hybrid sleep when I close the lid. I kind of want the fastest, but most secure option though.

Also, in the TrueCrypt options menu it says Auto dismount when entering power saving mode. Is that sleep? And is dismounting when it encrypts it again?

Hybrid Sleep/Hibernate Not Available In Power Options?

May 4, 2012

Just upgrade my server with a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H mobo and a G630T processor. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate. For some reason I don't see the options for hybrid sleep or hibernate in advanced power options menu. Generally, I believe they are supposed to be under sleep in the advanced menu but only "Sleep After" and "Allow wake timers" are present in the menu. I haven't upgraded to a new mobo in years and in my old mobo there was an option to enable S3 sleep. This mobo has options to enable wake timer, WOL, and a couple of others but nothing to disable to enable hybrid sleep. My system seems to still go to sleep ok but the lack of the two options seems odd to me and wanted to see if anyone possibly had a similar problem.

No Wakeup After Hybrid Sleep (black Screen)

Sep 4, 2009

I have a problem with the hybrid sleep mode.

Whenever I try to put my notebook in sleep mode everything works ok, also normally waking up the system.

But when I disconnect the power cord and restart the system, Windows tries to resume its state but suddenly stops with a black screen and a blinking cursor.

I have absolutely no problems with normal sleep and normal hibernate (shutdown -h).

For a short time hybrid sleep worked only when I put the system to sleep with the notebook FN keys, but not through the Win start menu.

Now it doesn't work at all. Maybe this was also just a coincidence.

Can anyone help me?

Extremely Slow Boot After Hybrid Sleep

May 10, 2011

I use Windows 7 Pro x64 in my Car PC.Hybrid Sleep is enabled, because my CarPC-PSU only keeps up the 5V rail for 18 Hours. After that the power is shut down. When I wake the PC from standby (within the 18 hours), everything works fine. Windows responds within a few seconds. If the PC has been put to standby and the PSU shuts down the 5V rail, the startup from hybrid sleep/hibernate is extremely slow. It takes approx. 5 minutes before I can use Windows again. What's strange is: When I put the PC to sleep/hibernate manually and boot it up again, everything is MUCH faster. Normal hibernate boot I'd guess.Only when the PC initially was put to hybrid standby and power cutted off it boots that slow.I can replicate the same behaviour on my Desktop PC.

-Boot from Standby: Really Fast
-Boot from manual Hibernation: Normal
-Boot from Hybrid Standby atfter PowerOff: Extremely slow

Windows 7 Won't Reboot And Cannot Reboot From DVD?

Apr 20, 2012

My computer hard drive crashed a week ago and most of my back-ups went with the system. So, I got a new 500 GB drive and have been re-installing everything from scratch. I started with a clean install of Windows XP (service pack 2), which took forever to get all the up-dates done. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 and did the up-dates for that. I didn't make a recovery disk at this point because I wanted to get everything installed first.Unfortunately, the last time I went to reboot it failed. When I power-up the computer it stalls out on the Dell BIOS screen. I can't get into Safe Mode, Setup, or the Boot Menu because my keyboard and mouses are not working. They are both USB and none of my USB ports are working. (Also, I have not PS/2 ports on my machine.).

Moving Windows 7 Files

Sep 18, 2011

I had to do a reinstall of a Win 7 32bit pro OS for a user, but before I did, I moved her data to my machine, did the reinstall on her and then moved her data to her profile.

I logged in as her, and verified that her "my docs" and favorites were there and that I can access them. However, all of the data icons are transparent (folders on her desktop and the actual data in her mydocs).

Most of it is pictures and movies and I can access them, but everything is clear. I did notice that even the favorites are transparent and they do not show in the browser (IE) even though the link is in fact in the Favorites directory in her profile.

Windows 7 Won't Hibernating After Moving To SSD?

Aug 14, 2011

I moved Windows 7 from a partition on a physical hard drive to a new SSD. It was pretty easy, and everything works great except the hibernate function. The screen goes blank for about two seconds and then comes back on. Nothing power-related appears in the Event Viewer. The PC restarts, shuts down, and even sleeps with no trouble. I ran powercfg -h off and then powercfg -h on to delete and recreate the hibernation file,no offense, but no lectures about how a "clean" reinstall is required or even recommended when moving to an SSD. That's just not true. Similar to upgrading to a larger physical hard drive, all you do is copy the partition to the new drive and continue on your way.

I'm avoiding reinstall since I really want to preserve my settings.

I'm wanting to move my copy of Windows 7 OEM Ultimate x64 to a new drive, with all the programs and that without reinstalling. I'm wanting to move it from my WD Black SATA2 drive to a SATA3 drive, which will be done via a PCIe Card. If this isn't possible to do, I'm fine using a fast SATA 2 drive.

I'm wondering if copying all the required folders Windows needs, putting them on a same-sized drive, unplugging the WD Black and doing a boot with that in the same SATA port.

Moving SSD With Windows 7 Install

Aug 24, 2011

I have a 320gb (255 free) drive and just purchased a 120gb SSD. I have external SATA -> USB bays and extra computers that can do the transferring. My windows partition is currently only 45gb. The current 320gb drive has 4 partitions 2 of which are 10g+ recovery partitions I no longer want. (and can use the space now that I am on a small drive). Windows 7 built in backup will only image the exact partition sizes, meaning if I was going to a bigger drive that's fine I could resize after. but because im going to a smaller drive i cant even write the image to it. Acronis this got me very close, it cloned the drive (including recovery partitions, but i planned on removed those afterwards) but failed to boot, I ran windows recovery to try and rebuild the boot sector but it wasn't able to. How can I keep everything but switch drives? The best thing I can think of now (and very sad) is to install a fresh copy of windows 7 than erase the install partition and copy over the install partition from the 320gb drive, and I have a strong suspicion this wont go smoothly.
