On my laptop... The router signal strength bar says that i have internet access and then it says that i dont. When I try to open a webpage I get the Windows is unable to communicete with the DNS Server message.

An issue occurs intermittently and apparently at random, whereby a client will be unable to resolve the host/computer name of the print server. When the issue occurs, we have confirmed the following: - The client has a valid IP address.The client DNS server addresses are correct. - The client can ping the IP address of the print server. - The client can resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the server�s FQDN. - The client cannot resolve the IP address of the print server by using nslookup and the host/computer name of the print server.The issue can occur regardless of which domain controller the client used to log on. - When the output of ipconfig /display is printed to a text file, many of the other servers in our domain are present in the DNS cache but the print server is not. After the ipconfig /flushdns command is executed, the client can resolve the host/computer name of the print server immediately.

I have used Take Ownership and removed Windows Live Mail 64 and installed Windows Mail 64 as per tutorial.
I have the shortcut on the desktop but when I try to open from there it says:-
Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail was unable to locate its message database. If you’ve moved the database files to a new location, click okay to reset the database to that location.
I clicked okay and I now click on the hidden folder Widows Mail hoping that will do the trick, it doesn’t!
The next error message I get is:-
Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store.
The last error message I get is:-
Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialised.
Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I tried a search and didn't find a related thread. I have set up the FTP Server on two Windows 7 (Pro 64-bit) boxes via IIS. I have found that if either PC goes to the screensaver, I cannot FTP to that PC. I get "connection timed out." The second I move my mouse or hit the keyboard to get rid of the screensaver, I can immediately connect via FTP again. Neither box has the screensaver password protected. Is there some setting I need to change so that FTP can connect whether the box is logged on, logged off, or has the screensaver up? This PC will eventually serve as the main image to go out to about 300 remote sites with scripts that run overnight and will need access via FTP.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my fileserver to 2008 R2 (clean install) and also upgraded my home PC to Windows 7 (also a clean install). Both are connected together using a linksys 8-port gigabit switch and each machine has 2 NICs which are bridged. The server has a static IP and the workstation currently has a static IP as well (although I've had it set for DHCP and the problem still occurs). Network Discovery is enabled on both and they are both in the same workgroup.
Now with that being said, here's the issue.....
Periodically, the workstation no longer can "see" the server if I try to browse the network. However I can still ping the server by IP as well as name, browse fileshares and even RDP into it. The only thing that is affected is if I'm using a program on my PC and need to access files that are on a network share, then the server isn't listed under network to allow me to browse to the share.
When this happens, I can usually reboot the server and then it will show up, but there seems to be no set pattern as to when it will disappear. If both machines are left on and not rebooted, the server sometimes will just show up under Network for awhile and then disappear again. One final note, on the server, the workstation does show up when browsing the network.
Whenever I try to make a change in Internet Time Settings to the server and press either "OK" or "Update Now", I receive an error "Your changes could not be saved." I have searched for a fix but nothing I've tried has worked.

I have a valid, working copy of Windows 7 build 7000x32 on disk. The same disk has been used on other computers and works fine. However on my machine, it begins the installation just fine, until it reaches the blue Windows 7 background screen. Then it stops. No error, it just stops working.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I find it extremely frustrating.

By identify, I mean, when using "Network and Sharing Centre" on the basic network information page, the PC shows "Identifying" under "active networks" - no matter how long I leave the PC.

Modem Router details
Netgear N300 Wireless Dual Band ADSL2+ Modem Router
The main desktop is connected to the modem router (via Ethernet). The modem router is showing no sign of any problems itself, all the dashboard lights look ok (i.e. power is on, port 1 shows the Ethernet connection in place, both wireless bands are lit, the DSL is lit and so is the internet). The household contains a number of laptops which continue to work ok wirelessly and/or wired through Ethernet. Even mobile phones are accessing the wi-fi ok.
The DNS Server address looks ok, as that is the address of the web page to the router. I cannot access that web page (address) via the main desktop, but I can from other devices ok. Having gone through Device Manager the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is showing as "working properly". I have tried pinging the DNS Server address, and that fail. I have gone through a system restore to a previous point (before the day of the crash) but that seems to have made no difference either.
I have attempted to set the IP addresses (for TCP/IPv4) directly
IP address 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
And therefore forced to set the DNS Server address too
Preferred DNS server: 192.68.0.1
But I don't know what to set for the alternate DNS Server, so left blank. This seems to step me forward, in that the device/network is now identified. However the internet access is still not work, as the "DNS Server is not responding".
I've recently been having problems opening some pages in Internet Explorer. Today for example I wanted to go to HP's support site. I got to the main site but when I clicked on Product Support the page wouldn't open and the message 'javascript:void(0)' appeared in the bottom left hand corner. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer is unable access my router. The power went out for a second and clearly that did something. I have an HP p7-1174 desk top, running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. The processor is an AMD A8-3800.
There are now several devices in the manager with yellow exclamation points, all relegated to the LAN. I get a Code 31, unable to load drivers message. I ran the sfc scan and there were no integrity violations. I tried updating drivers without any luck. My router is working fine because my laptop and iPad both work online.
The problem seems to be that Windows can't load the drivers for my 802.11n wireless LAN card. I tried updating drivers but it said the driver was up to date. I tried changing manually but the only two listed were the same and when I clicked one, it said Windows was unable to load.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
