I can no longer search in outlook. I've traced this back to the search indexing - if I go to control panel > indexing options it states "indexing is not running".Sure enough, if I go to services the Windows Search Service is stopped (even though it's set to start on "automatic (delayed start)")If I try to start it manually it says : "The Windows Search service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".Goggling the error takes me to this very specific microsoft support article which covers exactly this error: Windows Search Service will not start, Error: "The Windows Search service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs".The article states the solution is to delete all the files in the "C:windowssystem32configTxR" directory. But I tried this and only some were deleted, but 3 remain as they were "in use".I've googled around for ways to delete locked files, and tried every trick in the locked files book - but I just cannot get rid of these 3 files - and if these files are what's stopping the search service from starting then apparently I'm screwed...
I've tried deleting them using an admin cmd prompt, safe mode with command prompt, removing the system/hidden attributes etc etc, even lockhunter gave up on these files complaining that it was the system that was using them so it couldn't delete/rename them or kill the locking process.I use the outlook search all the time (I have zillions of stored emails) and not being able to search is a nightmare...
My indexing stopped. When I checked "Windows Search" service is in auto startup mode but it wasn't running. When I tried to manually start, it gave me "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." message.
Without an ability to search my computer I am pretty much lost now.
after i managed to remove a virus on my computer (system defender) i get this message to turn on the windows security center service, but when i try to do that i get the message "the windows security center service can't be started".. the security center properties is on automatic... but the message is still on.. i tried to do a system restore but it doesn't give me an option date before the virus attack. i have windows 7 home edition..
I've searched the forum but most error text is different. Mine is simple.. It says Quote: Windows cannot start Diagnostic Policy Service on this local computer.
Error: 5 Access is denied I've tried multiple things however I cant get it fixed.. I tried system restore but system restore took 4 days and SURPRISINGLY, the restore failed..
As a former Linux user, I didn't think about installing any virus protection software when I first bought my current laptop (Samsung R580) that runs on Windows 7 Home Premium. My laptop was fine for the first 6-8 months until I some strange things started happening. When I would Google something and click on a search result, I would be redirected to a website trying to sell me things. A friend of mine did some research, and told me my laptop had something called a "click jacker". We found a work-around. Then, I was primarily using Google Chrome as my browser of choice until it started loading websites slowly and then not at all. I switched to Mozilla Firefox for a while until it started behaving the same way. Now, I am using IE which is working great, but what do I do when the same thing happens to this web browser? I would really like to start fresh, but I have never attempted anything like that before.
I have installed Itunes version 10.3.1.55 on my computer(windows7 x86), and since that Itunes refuses to sync to my Iphone. On the previous versions of Itunes everything was just fine. I went to the Service pannel and when trying to start the AMDS and I keep gettng this error "Windows could not start the apple device service on local computer : Error1067"...I've googled the matter and seems like no one on the blogs I visited got this figured out...Apple support is even worse, they keep telling you to install and the uninstall itunes, delete temp filesetc and try the whole thing back again..
I am trying to connect to the work Windows Server 2003 using my standalone computer running Windows 7 Pro 64, the wireless and remote desktop is working fine but when I try to map a network drive the error I receive is "An attempt was made to logon, but the network service logon service was not started".
I am having an issue with Windows Search Service. Almost every time I boot (in the morning), the Search service is disabled. Either I have to repair the function, or go into Services and restart it. Each time I do, I set the Windows Search service to start automatically. Sometimes it does, and sometimes not. This has been going on for several months. It got so bad; I installed another search program that worked just fine. But in the end, I actually reformatted my HD and reinstalled all apps and restored Documents. For a couple of weeks, everything was fine. Now it has started again.
I have tried every fix that seemed reasonable and that I found online. My virus software (AVG) finds nothing. I checked all the Windows components and they are correct. No repair needed.

I'm trying to re-enable the search indexing function on windows 7, however when I go to computer management the service windows search is not listed. What can I do to find it or reinstall it if need be?
I have been trying to enable the search feature on my windows 7 64-bit machine but when I attempt to do so, or use indexing, nothing seems to happen. When I try to enable windows search in services I get "Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer - error 5 access denied."
When I detect problems in search and indexing it tells me windows search service is not running but lists the error as not fixed. When I try to manually add a config folder in the ProgramData - Microsoft - Search - Data folder it erases itself after a few seconds.
This account has full admin control, I don't get it. I even tried to do this through the hidden admin account.
This laptop is only a month old but I can't turn the search feature on. I think maybe if I modify it to not include the external in indexing it would not mess up, but I can't even touch the modify button without enabling windows search, which is currently impossible.
So it was all happened yesterday , all of my Windows 7 services stopped (Windows Firewall, Network, Connections, etc)*2 months ago, I wanted to play Hitman Absolution but my Windows 7 was not SP1, so than I downloaded Advanced System Care (it's Pro of course), and scanned my computer with it, found errors, and automatically repaired by it (it seems that Advanced System Care downloaded Windows Update too) and I was able to play Hitman , and Far Cry 3 until yesterday*i noticed on the taskbar if Windows Firewall has stopped, I thought it was a simple problem, but it wasn't. Tried to turn it on = failed , from service.msc = failed , and i checked most of Windows 7 services stopped eventhough they're all set "Automatic" in msconfigTried SFC scan, Windows Fix-it , was a failure, tried to enable services manually , stopped again after reboot
There is a Windows 7 machine and a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine in the same network. The Windows Search service is running on Server 2008 R2 and on Windows 7, therefore their music folders are indexed and added to the Music library. On Windows 7, I can search an artist in the start menu search and songs come up corresponding to the artist I searched for. However in Server 2008 R2 when I search an artist no results show unless that artist is in the file name of the song.Does anyone know what Windows 7 Search Service is doing that Server 2008 R2 is not? Perhaps something else is missing in Server 2008? Ironically, if Windows 7 was sharing its indexed music folder and Server 2008 R2 added the shared folder to its music library, it will find artists I search for in Server 2008 R2.
I had this error pop up twice about 7months ago then it went away on its own, and has just now came back and with a vengeance and I cant seem to find anything about fixing it. It tends to happen whenever I open anything on my computer, like if I goto control panel or etc., it will like freeze up for 10 seconds then start working. Here's a pic of the error logs that the problem report page gives me. And all the errors even those dating back to 7 months ago are all exactly the same. Computer Details - Windows 7 64ATI 5870 GPU1000W Coolermaster Powersupply6gb Corsair Ram. I think it might've started recently when I downloaded webroot onto my computer after removing Avira Free.
Virtual Disk Service often stops working in my notebook HP G60 125NR.the dependencies PLUG-N-PLAY and REMOTE PROCEDURE CALL are running.Without VDS, my Notebook does not recognize many USB devices and USB HArd Disk.HOW TO ENSURE THAT VDS DOES NOT STOP? Or. HOW TO RESTRART IT?
I just reformatted back to Win7 and is it just me or has the extension service stopped working? I searched using the in browser search for adblock plus. No results. I even went to Firefox's extensions site, did a search and got no results.

I have loaded in the usual way but somehow "Restore" believes i am in "Safe Mode"I am also unable to create any backup disks because i get the same error message (Cannot create in Safe Mode).

This happened to me on my last build and last night I reinstalled my computer and the issue stopped. Now, after installing Service Pack 1 (it seems), it continues to stop at the welcome screen and forces me to click my user to continue logging in (No Password). Is this handled by a setting or is it an actual issue? I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.
I disabled the "windows search" service in computer management and when I got back to the services TAB, the service disappeared. Is there any way to re - enable this service
I've been trying to chase this issue for quite some time now. Randomly I experience a crash to desktop when playing Battlefield 2. Doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason, just bam!
The only thing I can spot in the logs is one in system saying: (Happens Everytime) Quote: "The PnkBstrB service entered the stopped state." There is also one that will show in the app log saying: (Happens once in awhile) Quote: "Faulting application name: bf2.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4a8d6629 Faulting module name: Memory.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x497ec791 Exception code: 0xc0000005
I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop. Inside the program "Dell Support Center" it tells me that BITS - Demand Started to Auto Started. I don't know what BITS is. It runs in the System Services. Should I disable the BITS?

Windows Search in Windows 7 64bit has stopped working. I am unable to Start the Service. StartUp Type is set to Automatic.I am not sure but I suspect this started after a recent Windows Update. When I try to start the service, I get a message that says, "Windows could not start the Windows Search service on Local Computer." "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."However, WindowsSearch.exe is indeed in C:WindowsSystem32 folder. When I ran SFC on WindowsSearch.exe and on srvsvc.dll, no problems were reported. In fact, running SFC on the entire system returned no problems or errors. In Windows Features, both Indexing Service and Windows Search are checked. In /Control Panel/Indexing Options, "Indexing is not running."When I run, "Troubleshoot search and indexing," I get the messages:"Incorrect permissions on Windows Search directories""Windows Search service not running"I could not find the Windows Search directories.
some specifics and pinpoint the differences (or maybe a good website) that would pinpoint the differences between the Windows 7 search and the outlook 2007 search? I know the outlook search searches through email but are there other difference I am overlooking between the two?
Is there any way to replace the Desktop Search with the 'Ole Dog ( Search Companion) You can not find all the related files with Desktop search like you could with Search Companion.
how i can search for torrent files with windows 7 search function?when i look for my downloaded files (downloaded via µtorrent),then i can i only find my downloaded files, but no torrent files(the torrent file still exists in my µtorrent program,so i am sure i still have the torrent file).
Outlook 2007 Task search versus Windows7 computer wide search.
I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?
I began having an issue with my laptops ATI Radeon graphics driver not working properly. It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.
