I just recently installed windows 7 home premiuim on my windows vista home premieum computer. When my computer booted up with windows 7, everything worked perfectly and had no problems. I turned off my computer for the night and the next morning when i went to turn on my computer, none of my usb 2.0 devices (mouse, wireless adapter, etc.) worked. The only thing that does work is my keyboard and its a PS/2 keyboard.

When I first got the laptop the USB ports didn't recognise devices when they were plugged in, and the laptop would just hang when shutting down (on the Windows Shutting Down screen), so I decided to reinstall the OS as there was a lot of unnecessary applications installed.
I've been using the laptop since the rebuild and all has been good, until the past week or so when the same two problems have materialised again - when I attach a PSP, or a printer via USB, they are not recognised. And when I shut the laptop down, it hangs on the Shutting Down screen.
What checks can I run to see what the cause of this might be? I've not really installed a load of software on here, and I can't think of anything specific that I may have done that would cause this...

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere are several problems with HP Mini netbook. First among them is that programs keep freezing. It seems to start up normally, but shortly after you launch any program (even explorer or the control panel), it hangs. This means among other things that I can't get into Device Manager to look at things like drivers because I can't get there before the freeze sets in. When it happens I can still get to the toolbar and use the start menu and so on, but if I try to launch any other programs, nothing happens. Also I can't force the shutdown of the "hung" programs.
I figured this sounded like a Class A virus situation, so I tried to download some tools like AVG. The Freeze got me, using both IE and Chrome. I tried loading up my USB Thumbdrive (full of troubleshooting tools). The HP won't admit that it even exists, and the access light on the stick never blinks. An external USB HDD available, so I hooked it up. Again, not even rejected, just ignored. The HP will recognize an external DVD drive, but refuses to let me write anything to a black disc. In fact when I try the drive disappears altogether.

Now can't even get to BIOS, entire PC flicks on and off repeatedly as soon as I turn the PSU on regardless of whether I hit the power button on the front of the computer.

Detailed explanation:About a week ago my PSU (Seasonic 750w) died randomly while the computer was left running in sleep . I RMA'd the dead seasonic. In the mean time I happened to come accross an extremely good deal on a new PSU, so I bought it (Thermaltake smart m850w PSU) to have a backup and to get my machine working again. I hooked up the new PSU to GPUs, CPU, fans, ATX power connector, and to all of the SATA devices, (the SSD, the HDD, and the Optical drive). I made sure to connect the data cables to the SATA devices in the same configuration they were in when working properly. The computer boots successfully to the ASROCK BIOS, all fans spinning. However, I get the error code "A6" on "dr debug" (the led display on the mobo). The manual says this means "SCSI detect". I have no idea what that means.
I was able to load the UEFI, and bios recognized all components except for any of the SATA devices--(SSD, the HDD, and optical drive not recognized). The RAM, GPUs, processor, and fans were detected. At this point I was stuck in BIOS because I couldn't boot off anything.I did not have the HDD connected when the PSU failed, but now the BIOS won't read that either. I don't think any of the SATA devices are actually receiving power. Again, the UEFI showed that there were no SATA devices connected to any port, when in reality they clearly were connected both by power and data cable. Then things get really strange. I unhooked all of the SATA devices except the HDD (the one that wasn't hooked up when the original PSU died). I plug the AC into the PSU, then turn on PSU (not the power switch for the computer, the switch on the PSU). The computer starts flicking on and off in this weird rhythmic pulsating pattern "click...click...click...click..." with about a 1/2 second between each click. Each time the power flicks on, the LEDs come on and the fans spin briefly. The strangest part is that I don't need to hit the power button on the front of the case for this to happen, it just starts as soon as the PSU is turned on. In fact, I can't get the computer to turn on at all--the switch on the front of the computer appears to be dead.
1. Unplug the power cables from everything and re-seated them.
2. Reseated the data cables to the optical drive and the SSD on the drive end, not on the MOBO side as they are covered by my GPUs and I would have to take them out in order to do that.
3. Tried hooking up a SATA power cable from my old modular PSU and using that in the new PSU in an attempt to power the optical drive (didn't work, I know, bad idea--I learned you aren't supposed to do this shortly after I tried it)
4. Setting all preferences to default in the UEFI.
5. Disconnecting the power cables from one or both of the GPUs.
I think that this is either a problem with (1) the motherboard, (2) the new PSU, (3) all 3 SATA devices (unlikely). The fact that I can't even get into Bios anymore tells me that this may be a MOBO or PSU issue.My main question is how to procede from here? I suppose I can wait for my Seasonic to come back from RMA--perhaps that will clear up the issue. I just can't shake the feeling that this is a MOBO issue though. I am worried that if I keep screwing around with it I may end up frying my CPU and GPUs. I can eat the cost of a MOBO or PSU if necessary, but I can't afford to buy a new processor and two new 670s.

Here's the message I get from device manager:Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39). I've tried everything possible to correct the situation even reloading the intel chipset from Asus web site. Windows no longer will detect a flash drive or external usb drive. I'm at the end of my rope and I don't envy the thoughts of a reinstall. Is there a way to reinstall the usb drivers?Any one can point me in a direction.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am able to get into the BIOS with both USB and PS/2 devices (Keyboards, etc.) but one I boot into Windows I am completely unable to log on. Keyboard does not work, and neither does the mouse. They both light up, but I am unable to get other things to activate (caps lock key, etc.) and key presses do not work. This is with either USB keyboards and mice, PS/2 keyboards and mice, or a mix of the two (or all four attached at once!). Going into safe mode does not work -- once again, anything USB-based or PS/2-based ceases to function once windows boots, and therefore I am unable to log on in order to diagnose the issue.
I have re-set my BIOS to the default settings, and have removed anything which may provide my system with additional IRQ's -- including both serial ports and my LPT port (yes, this is an older machine). I have gone into the recovery console, and things *DO* work there, strangely enough. I do have mouse and keyboard support, but bringing the machine back to a previous state (system restore) does nothing to correct the issue. As well, the first few attempts provided me with an 0x800700B7 error message (very strange!) when the restore attempt failed. I got past this issue by choosing a restore point a few days in the past.
Once in the recovery console, I notice that it seems to be strangely deficient in tools that I would actually like to use. I am unable to bring up the MMC (and thereby the hardware devices applet), nor am I able to employ gpedit.msc in order to disable the login (boot straight into Windows). Essentially, it seems that my only tools are the command line, and about the only thing that I have found that can be launched from the command line - regedit. I am running a personal copy of Windows 7 Professional, with all of the latest updates and patches. I have MSE (the newer version) installed and have also installed malwarebytes anti-malware. Nothing found to date.
i want to ask. My windows cannot recognize my CD-R files. i put in my CD-R and windows recognize it as blank CD-R. while there's file (an autorun files and software installer) in that CD-R. i have pc and laptop, i try putting my cd-r on my pc (win xp sp2) my windows recognize the file, but when i try putting on my laptop (win 7 64bit) it recognized as blank cd-r.

I've recently started to make music and I'm interested in using some of the MIDI capabilities on several of the instruments I have, mainly drum machines and synthesizers. The problem is Windows 7 is not detecting these MIDI to USB interface devices and instruments I have.I've tried using three interface devices so far with no luck what-so-ever. I've tried different two types of MIDI to USB cables, these are generally small, and they both work because I tested them on my friends Macbook and they were 100% functional.So, I decided maybe I should get a better piece of recording equipment, thinking there would be better platform support, so I purchased a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB, low and behold, I had the same problem!The MIDI to USB cables and the Focusrite interface detect the MIDI IN coming from the MIDI OUT port of the instrument, however Windows is not reading the converted MIDI information running through the USB cable into the computer.Here's a list of the solutions I've tried.Updating my chipset drivers. Uninstalling and re-installing chipset drivers. Un-installing and re-installing my sound drivers. Using the latest USB drivers (and even beta drivers) and utilities provided by the interface products. Trying different USB ports assuming it was a power issue. Uninstalling and re-installing the product drivers, rolling back to older drivers as well. Updating Windows. Tested under two different DAWS; CuBase and Sony ACID. I also tried different stand-alone soft-synths, they didn't detect the MIDI devices either. I've tried a few obscure MIDI drivers I dug up from a few places, but to no avail, I un-installed them. I've tried sacrificing 3 goats to Microsoft, that didn't work either. I'm convinced that this is a Windows / Hardware compatibility issue. I'm tempted to get a Mac product so I don't have to worry about this time pilfering fiasco. If anyone would like to take a stab at this I would be very grateful.Here's my system specs:

I have a computer on which the usb devices stop working/receiving power once windows has loaded (they work up untill windows finishes loading). I installed windows on a different disk everything else remained the same, now the mouse and kb work. Is there a known fix for this? If not is it possible somehow to transfer the user settings from one disk to another, so i get the same settings on the new drive perhaps (mind you, no mouse or kb support on one of those windows)?I have tried a lot of windows disk fix things, none of them have any effect, very strange, have never seen this before. Usually i get pretty much everything fixed using google, but this one.

I wasn't too stressed as i didn't have any personal information or anything important on it. So i reinstalled Windows using my flash drive, the iso from the Windows 7 Professional 64bit CD i had, and the Windows USB-DVD tool downloaded from Microsoft. I changed the boot priorities in BIOS to my USB drive, went through the installation setup and formatted all the partitions on my HDD and installed windows 7 professional 64bit. It loads up and for the most part works fine.First off my resolution will not go above 1024 x 768. Even though previously it was a lot higher, can't remember exact resolution, but was higher than that. Next, when i go to device manager, the following are listed under Other Devices with Yellow Exclamation points by them; Ethernet Controler, Network Controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and SM Bus Controller. I've Googled, searched these forums, and tried each solution out there. But to no avail.I purchased the laptop from Best Buy but i do not have any kind of recovery CD's.
Basically i think windows is not properly recognizing the hardware i have installed. Because the laptop screen can go to a higher resolution, but windows won't recognize it properly. View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my PC there is a card reader connected. It shows up as 4 different drives when I look at "My Computer" and elsewhere. One of the slots in the reader is for sim cards. When a sim card is inserted a Windows sound is heard and the "Installing Device Driver" window shows up but then another window stating the installation was not successful. Any further action from within windows does not solve the problem. I tried an external card reader connected via USB and the same negative results. this was tried with 3 different sim cards.

Linux machine works fine. When booting the laptop, the Bios and the boot selection work fine too, and so does Windows 8 when booted. But when booted into Windows 7, while the display works, the keyobard and mouse do not.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a quick search on this site on "Administrator not reconized" and found the only threads mentioning this problem have both been closed. My problem is that in trying to download the entire HP driver/software disc for my hp printer psc 1350 series, I was not able to download the entire software, because I did not have Administrator's rights, etc, even though I was the only Administrator (and sole user of this computer at that time). I did some research online and followed one suggestion that I followed, which was to change the setting by going to Start, typing 'cmd' in search field, and typing in 'net user administrator /active:yes.' This created another "Administrator" user, which I am now finding quite useless, since many of my programs have already been downloaded on my first "Administrator" status. I need to know how to remove the last one I created (Administrator), if possible. As it stands right now, the one I had before is the only one with the option to delete. (Ugh!) In any case, even having the second Administrator user status, will not allow me to download the above mentioned software completely. So, I went full circle with the same problem, with no solution.
1) Remove the second Administrator user, and 2) how to get Windows 7 to allow me to download the above mentioned. BTW, I have already tried right-clicking the disc drive (setup file) and clicked "Run as Administrator" - all to no avail. Nothing seems to work.
For some reason Windows 7 Home Premium has decided not to recognize my CD/DVDW drive?t was fine yesterday but today not. The driver is up to date per the fix it tool.Anyone know what I should try next? I have a basic understanding of the computer, but am not expert by a long shot

In device manager it appears as SM-USV 007 in "Other Devices", and none of the tutorials i've been looking at say that. They all recognise EasyCAP as a capture card. My other problem is that my laptop won't read the installation disc for some reason. I don't know if it's the solution to my problem or it just contains drivers and the screen capture program. I have downloaded the Windows 7 x64 drivers and installed them but it fails to find them for the device.
