Windows 7 Upgrade Led To Loss Off Crispness & Quality In Browser Text
Jun 16, 2011
i decided to update my hp laptop from windows vista home premium to windows 7 ultimate (both 64 bit) and in doing so my firefox and ie browsers are considerably harder to read. twitter, facebook, Internet descriptions, most anything has very poor quality.
i recently came across this problem on my desktop after updating my graphics card's driver via an optional windows update (big mistake) and all i had to do was rollback the driver. for this problem, i tried updating the graphics card's driver, but it's up to date.
Since the title seems a bit confusing, I have a screenshot example:I know by default that there shouldn't be any text at the top in Windows 7. I want to know what may have caused this change and how I can remove the text? If you need more information, I will provide.
Ok well i got a new Dell Studio 435 Tower in april or so i7 920, 6gb 1066 tri-channel, 1gb ATI 4870, 750GB WD Black Caviar... i was running x64 Vista Home Premium and it was smooth as butter... had a 5.9 WEI and was pretty happy with performance.
2 nights ago i saw that the Windows 7 RTM was available on MSDN so i snagged x64 Windows 7 Home Premium... upgraded in place fine but now its much slower than my x64 was!
It takes longer to both boot up and shut down, some programs freeze when opening or closing them... i re took the WEI and it went down to 5.5. For some reason all my other scores shot up to 7.5 except my Ram which fell to 5.5 and my HDD which fell to 5.9 ???
I started investigating and it now says that i have 6GB installed and 1.99GB usable. What? When i was using Vista it said nearly all of it was usable.
I went into my bios... updated it to the newest version along with the intel chipset... in bios it states that i have 2048 available out of 2048 installed??? I have combed my bios and don't see ANYTHING that will let me mess with ram period.
I did the whole start>run>msconfig>boot>max ram, but no matter what i do it always defaults back to 2048 when i reboot my machine and go back to it.
I had a power loss while running on battery (it still showed power left, but suddenly shut down anyway) and when I restart, it reports that the Windows is not activated and Window is not genuine and system might be a victim of "counterfeiting."
Is this a virus (I have MSE on continuously and about once a week scan with Malwarebytes)? I have run 'sfc /scannow' with filtered output ('findstr /c: "[SR]" c:.....logsCBSCBS.log" and it appears as usual.
I'm having problems with my the graphics card on my laptop. It's an APU and I have picture and videos problems. Whenever I watch movies or look at pictures I see most things fuzzy, (if that makes any sense). I tried to watch a DVD and the video quality was unbearable. The most unbelievable thing is it affects picture quality. I can't do anything without poor quality pictures or videos. I have tried installing new drivers and all sorts of things. Is it me or is it my laptop?
My Laptop Specs:
AMD A6 Quad Core APU 1.5Ghz AMD Radeon HD 6520G 6GB DDR3 Memory 1066Mhz Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
My computer has been running slow for months, but it is now getting to the point where it is almost unbearable. For example, just clicking on a folder to open it can take up to 15 seconds to respond. It also lags a ton during internet browsing.
I have FF 17. The mouse is freezing in facebook & I find the only escape to release the browser is reboot. The same FB page works fine in internet explorer.
Ok this is wierd I have a client using Office 2007 pro and some of her docs that she recently updated and the problem is when she prints the docs text that she deleted is printing over the top of new text she inserted into the doc.
Now when you have said doc open in WORD the deleted text is not there in any view and does NOT show in "print preview".
I opened said doc with WORDPAD and the deleted text shows up at the bottom so its still in the word doc somewhere imbedded so it prints over the top of the actual text in the doc.
I have a project where I need to search a large amount of text files on my home PC. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. My research indicated this feature was available in Windows 7.
If you do a search in Windows XP, you get a bunch of fields. You can pick to search for text INSIDE the particular sub folder structure.
I have found this feature in Windows 7, but it is different. I have tried using wild cards but it does not seem to work properly.
All of the sudden, when I want to copy and paste something in the same document, the formatted text (whether that be a certain font or bold) does not transfer over to the pasted text. For instance, if I wanted to copy the following bolded word word and then paste it anywhere else in the document, I now get this: word (without the bold). This applies to other cutting and pasting problems: this applies to other fonts and formatting (bold, my Greek font, etc). One more example: before today, if I wanted to cut a text out of my New Testament Greek program right in the middle of a paragraph, the Greek font (or whatever font) would paste normally no matter what font the target MS Word text was in.
Recently addicted to hear music in quality sound. Spend quite lot of money, buying a DAC and Great music system too. I have heard we can make some changes in windows 7 to get the Audio quality best. I have J River media player.
my upgrade to Windows 7 caused a huge loss in sound performance for me. I don't have a speaker system anymore, I live in a barracks so I only use headphones. It seems as though my headphone quality has diminished to that of a default set of ear buds that come with a cheap cell phone.I can't get the headphones to register in the Realtek HD Audio Manager either. It shows the digital output, and digital output(optical), but not my headphones. The headphones were previously shown in the Realtek HD Audio Manager before, and that is where I adjusted them to have beautiful sound. I've tried updating the drivers, reverting back, moving them around, etc. The headphones WORK, but they sound terrible. I literally get better sound quality plugging my headphones into my Iphone and listening to Pandora.
Here's applicable information for you guys:
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 Audio drivers: 6.0.1.6251 Headphones: Sound Blaster Arena SB's with detachable mic OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Additionally; I'm receiving my pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50's tomorrow, they're using a 3.mm jack instead of USB so maybe that will change things up I'm not sure.
I have been having this very annoying problem for over 2 months now. I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and Most video on my pc looks very pixelated. I was able to get vlc to work correctly again with an update to the latest version and wmp seems to work fine too. I'm still having very low quailty video in my slingplayer, skype video and certain flash videos on the internet. I have been searching google for any possible solution like using an older video card driver, a vista driver, and adding codec's but nothing seems to work. I'm not really sure if it's an Nvidia, windows, or a flash problem.

my pc has 2 monitors plugged into it and i'm using ultramon I also have my cpu oc'd to 3ghz, so i put it back to stock speeds and still have the poor video qaulity so that wasn't it.
Is there anyway to have a High Definition/Quality moving background? I've tried dreamscene and searched around, but no luck. I'm looking for something that can make wmv / flv / etc../ into a background.
i am working on making a slideshow of a few pictures. movie maker seemed great to me in doing this. it's easy to add music or effects and all but the problem is that after publishing, it degrades the pic's quality. i have tried publishing in all the options.the NTSC something option created a 3gb+ video file but still the quality was poor.
for some reason, my windows 7 is only offering two types of default format for my usb audio device driver; telephone quality and tape recorder quality.
obviously both of these are shockingly bad. the thing that makes it worse is that i have just brought a brand new usb desktop microphone (logitech usb desktop microphone) and windows is only offering the same settings as my old webcam microphone (and it sounds just as bad).
there is one thing i am confused about though: in this video; logitech usb desktop microphone working on windows 7 64bit - Internet
the guy is using windows 7 64-bit (same as me) but he has the option to increase the audio quality to dvd quality. it's the same exact microphone, same windows and appears to be the same driver. i'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit so it should include all of the drivers, yes?
logitech doesn't offer any drivers and the guy in the video mysteriously has the same driver but has more options than me. the microphone is just as useless with loud echos and the like as my old webcam microphone.
I have packet loss, and randomly connection loss (but otherwise i have very good pings!) under windows 7 with two different computer with realtek 8111B and 8111E onboard chips. But there is no packet loss under windows xp with the same computers.I tried old, new, and motherboard manufacturer's drivers, new windows 7 system without any antivirus software, disabled windows defender, in safe mode, but still the sameI have no router, just a modem directly plug into the pc.
I have been researching the topic and am at a loss after around an hour of fruitless research. I recently upgraded from xp 32 bit to windows 7 32 bit. I want to upgrade to 64 bit so theres more RAM available and cannot find any information on doing it without discs that doesnt use USB or something. Got an external hard drive what the hell do I do? I downloaded the files but then couldn't open of course bc they were 64 bit files or whatnot.
I just turned on my pc today and the windows 7 basic areo theme came up insted of the top quality theme and when i opened ie9 i noiced the greyt theme was comming up on the windows, then another 30 seconds later the bottom bar when all grey, i went o controll panel and it has greyed out the areo theme (blanked it out so i can click on it) , i have been on some other sites and they are telling me to trouble shoot it witch i have, but windows can't find any problems at all.
I am experiencing print quality problems which I think is coming from the computer. The printouts I am receiving are in Windows Basic Graphics format, but I would like them to be high quality. The problem seemed to occur when I was running a software facility which was set up for printing out on to templates. A message appeared on the screen saying that Windows 7 did not support this driver and would revert to Windows Basic Graphics when printing out. I have reset my computer to the factory default but this does not appear to have done anything. The printer I am using is an Epson SX125.
What is going wrong after soundtrack or music has been added and the clip saved?requently music playback in the files converted from a number of formats ( obv. to wmv) is dodgy, choppy or simply not capable of being listened to. Obviously I am at fault. What is being done incorrectly> Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit (warranted no emoticons)
I recently downloaded updates from MS and since rebooting I have lost all wireless connectivity. When I ran ipconfig /all in a command window it shows ethernet connection but not wireless. In network it shows wireless card is connected but there is no TCP/IPv4 or 6 connectivity. I am using Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN wireless adapter. I have updated to the latest drivers for the adapter but NO success!Diagnostic message is about windows not being able to bind to TCP stack etc.Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bitProcessor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10Processor Count: 2RAM: 4090 MbGraphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce G 105M, 512 MbHard Drives: C: Total - 464838 MB, Free - 82861 MB; E: Total - 381554 MB, Free - 171085 MB; F: Total - 2861578 MB, Free - 510054 MB; G: Total - 476939 MB, Free - 64575 MB;Motherboard: Packard Bell, SJM50MVAntivirus: BullGuard Antivirus, Updated and Enabled
Verizon Fios, Actiontec Router. Windows XP machines (wired) (2) never any internet loss whatsoever. Running the wireless from the Actiontec and also a Linksys that is on one of the ports. (distance issues) The Linksys always syncs up and both wireless systems work 100% all the time with either XP or Win 7 laptops.
Here's the issue: two wired desktops running Win 7 have intermittent internet drops. One is older, one brand new fresh out of the box. Turned off the power saver NIC card function on both, WOL disabled. That's not the problem because the internet losses occur sometimes after the machine is on for a few minutes, the PC does not sit long enough to go into power saver anyway. There's no rhyme or reason as they say when the loss will occur. Sometimes this will not happen for a day or more, other times it can happen after using the machine for just a few minutes. One thing I have been trying is to disable IPV6 then I can get the internet back, othertimes re-enable it to get the net back. Go figure. Again, disabling it will not fix the problem, however switching it on/off will. Disabling and re-enabling the NIC will only fix it sometimes, most instances that does nothing. There are different types of NIC cards in the machines, one uses a Realtec on board, the other uses Nvidea on board and a plug in NIC (brand?) all NIC cards/board performs the same. Also, when they DO work, if I let them boot for a while, usually they will be fine, but that's looking at a 10-15 minute boot up. (doesn't take an excessive time for actual boot-up but I mean just leave it alone for 10-15 min) The Actiontec has the most current update version, and is about two years old. Somehow these machines lose the internet portion but not the network portion. Such an annoying problem, even more so when I added a brand new machine and get the same issues. I would be willing to bet that if I ran them wireless there would be no issue, but that's going to slow down the dl/ul speeds that I get with a wired connection.
The definetion of an EXPERT was "anyone more than 25 miles from home" not sure about that.If memory serves me I used to be able to open more than one copy of the Microsoft IE Browser, however am unable to do that now. Am I imagining thing that I did that before or is there a problem with that?
Since a recent (3 days ago) update to Windows 7, which included an update to the network driver file 6/21/2006 6.1.7600.16385, I have lost the ability to view my home cctv on either LAN or WAN. I have tried system restore, but Windows just automatically updates again afterwards.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 307-SA laptop which is running Windows 7 Profession (32 bit) I recently tried to put it into hibernation but found that my laptop will no longer do so.
Hibernation had been working fine up until I upgraded my hard drive from a 160 GB 5400 RPM WD Elements Scorpio Blue to a 500 GB 7200 RPM WD Elements Scorpio Black hard drive. Ever since then I can't put my laptop into hibernation.
The menu option for Hibernation is displayed so it is enabled, however when I attempt to hibernate the laptop the screen goes blank (As if it was going to hibernate) but then after a few short seconds the screen flashes and then the login screen appears again prompting me to login into my user as if I had just booted up the machine
The only possible cause that I can think of is that I did a full system image of my old hard drive and used my Windows 7 disc to restore the image onto the new hard drive. Rather than re-installing my whole OS from scratch, so maybe the hibernation file/settings got bodged.
I am having a nightmare with my windows 7 64 bit home edition. It is running extremely slowly. I have lost the internet connection and the windows firewall has turned off and cannot be turned back on. Whenever I boot up i get the message "failed to connect to a windows server" The event viewer log is also unavailable. I have established that my internet is working on other machines. I have also attempted to reset winsock in safe mood. However this has not worked.I've had the system for about 9 months with no major problems. I have McAfee and have run windows defender and adaware so I am pretty sure it's not malware.
My desktop pc crashed, and after some investigation it turns out that the main hard drive is probably dead... So I thought I would install Windows 7 onto my portable terabyte. Anyway when I tried to install Windows 7 onto my hard drive, I realised 2 things:
- Windows will clear my TB HD when it installs. and - Windows cannot install onto a USB device.
I need to install windows 7 on my portable hard drive without removing any data on it. I have tried to partition my hard drive with easyus as a friend recomended, but it says I need to convert it to a logical, and I cant do that because it says something about clearing the HD.
Today some maintenance personnel were working on my bathroom in my apartment. I stepped out to take care of some errands while they worked. I put my computer into sleep mode (NOT hibernation - Actually sleep mode). When I got home, I realized that all of the clocks were flashing "12:00" and my computer was powered off. When I talked to the maintenance crew, they said that they had encountered a problem in the bathroom and caused a short. This, in turn, tripped the breaker that my computer room was on, which they then reset. This means that my computer, at minimum, experienced a hard power loss while running. It may or may not have experienced a surge (!), though it is on a surge protector. And the surge protector did not have its safety lights lit to indicate a surge.
Unfortunately, since using the computer I'm noticing a lot of oddities. I played some TF2 to unwind, and for the first time ever it crashed. My Video Card got stuck in "uplocked/3D" mode. Web browsing was slower than I'm used to, and overall it seemed like the computer picked up a lot of 'chugging' where it hadn't before. Is there some method to diagnose the general health and well being of my computer in windows? Are there tools beyond CHKDSK that I can run to locate problems that may have occurred as a result of a power surge? I'm concerned that the power loss damaged my components significantly, and I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem or determine if it's all in my head.
Here are my specs, if that's important:
