This hard drive is a SATA hard drive, isnt the only hard drive in the computer, and ive formatted it to NTFS with GParted. I rebooted, got the Windows 7 installation running, choose the hard drive and it says it cannot install on that hard drive. I tried formatting it with the Windows 7 installation tools
View 1 RepliesWe are having ongoing problems with Windows 7 and mapped drive latency on our network. Our environment is as follows:Multiple servers running Windows 2008 & 2008 R2, some VMware servers (including our file server). Windows 7 x64 came preloaded on a brand new Lenovo think-pad, 4gb memory. This occurs on 4 different laptops. This problem ALSO occurs in exactly the same way on an HP Compaq x64 desktop running Windows 7 32. All systems are fully patched & up to date on SP's. Running IP 4 & 6 on all servers & Windows 7 machines Connected to GB Cisco switch.We run login scripts via GPOs that map drives (with net use commands) to 3 shares on our file-server, drives G, H and S.A fourth mapped drive to an IBM I-series does NOT experience these issues.
In Windows Explorer, mapped drives may or may not appear with red X's, but when clicked on they hang with a spinner and the green bar at the top of Explorer begins to run. This occurs randomly, but usually not right after boot up. It can take over a minute to complete. Also, in Word, which has references to these drives in file locations, file opening and saves can be very slow as it attempts to access these shares.This issue has delayed our roll out of Windows 7.Its unacceptably slow and cannot be used in a production environment.We have tried every suggestion we can find on the Internet:Turned off auto-tuning, indexing, thumbnails, set auto-disconnect to the max (both 99999 and ffffffff). Server & clients. No luck. Changed properties on the mapped drives to optimize for documents...no change.Changes setting on the network cards to disable flow control, set static link speed & duplex. Network drivers have been updated. Even tried using our wireless network and disabling wired connection...no change.All bios and hardware updates are completed...no change.Turned on and off network discovery..no change.
Disabled SMB2 on servers & clients...no change.Disabled firewalls, and unloaded antivirus (Trend)...no change.Safe boot with networking & clean boot with no services other than Microsoft...no change.
The folder titles on my external hard drive are in green when I open them up with one laptop and I am unable to see my pictures and video. However, when I plug the drive into my other laptop... I can see them fine?? Both laptops are identical Compaq 6910p running Windows 7 with 4 gigs of Ram and 320 gig hard drive .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was in the middle of playing skyrim when the screen went black, and came up with a message "not support" which only happens when the computer goes to sleep. I rebooted and the screen turned green and fuzzy, when trying to start windows normally, right after the windows boot logo (which can't be recognized but the text can) the screen goes black and doesn't go any further. My b/f thought it *might* be just the new graphics card he had installed 3 days ago, so I removed it. No change.
I tried to start up in safe mode (loaded completely to the desktop), and that worked but everything is still green and fuzzy. After about 2 minutes in safe mode, the screen will cut to black for a few seconds, come back to the desktop, back and forth. My next thought was heat, everything is running perfect and nothing is hot. This computer was upgraded last week; Windows 7 Ultimate, the ram, motherboard, and graphics card are brand new. Processor is a year old, and the power supply is roughly 2 years.
All hardware specifications that I know are on my profile. All parts were bought from newegg. There is no POST coding (beeps) so there doesn't seem to be loading problems. Maybe CPU problems? But I would figure it wouldn't start at all on safe mode, if the processor was out, or can it slowly go out? I've never came across a problem like this, there have been times the green fuzzy screen would happen at the very beginning of starting up, but would clear up within 2 seconds. I've already been looking at new processors if that's the problem.

Each time i enter a folder the green bar on the adress bar starts to run slowly like something is being indexed or read... the files all become (in use) so i cannot delete or edit them and of course all going slow , that is untill the process ends what is the proble and how i can fix that ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to upgrade to Windows 7. I'd previously had Vista Home Premium 64bit installed, and everything was fine apart from loading speeds, odd crashes etc. I bought a student edition copy of Windows 7 Professional (64bit) from software for students.com. I did a check to see if the pc was good to go with a windows 7 update tool, and had no errors. Also checked if it was compatible going from home premium to professional. And all was good on that front.
Ok, so I bought the bootable disk, and put it in the pc ready to install. All goes well until the last part where it copies over files from previous windows, and then the display goes from normal to a green/yellow. White is no longer white, more a yellow, and all reds and blues all become a wash of greeny yellows too. The installation completes, and no driver updates for either graphics, display or windows updates remedies this.
I've tried printing screen and emailing to my iphone, and the display is perfect! I've reinstalled twice, and again all colours are bang on until the same point in the install, and then it reverts to the yellow/green display. I've now just tried a clean install deleting the old partition, and surprise surprise its gone green/yellow again. It can't surely be the monitor if all boot up screens and during installation is displayed correctly can it? Same goes for drivers.
The only way I can get my computer to start is to cut, then restore power.Then I get the beep, and the Windows introduction graphics start showing up.Then the machine abruptly shuts down and the green led blinks 3 sec on, 3 sec off. The next time I cut and restore power,I may get a screen that offers to "restore". That option may or may not work.If it does work, the computer finally boots and acts normally.Or I might get a screen giving me the option to repair or start normally.Choosing to start normally usually works.What do I need to do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I double click on the Bluetooth icon in the taskbar the Bluetooth Devices window comes up, the green bar loads to 99% and nothing happens, even though I have 2 turned on Bluetooth devices near the dongle. I have also tried using the software (BlueSoleil) that came with the dongle, but that doesn't work either. All the devices in the device manager are installed correctly (no unknown devices). I am using Windows 7 Premium.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried numerous times on my PC to install Windows 7 onto my Sata Drive to no avail. Yet as soon as I plug in my IDE HD it installs fine.I have unplugged all external peripherals USB and internal Card Reader. Set my Bios ok as it sees both the Hard Drive and DVD fine (Both in the bios and during selection of hard drive during windows 7 installation). Yet when I come to install it, it craps out at a random percentage saying cannot read from source or worse yet it crawls so slow through the percentages (I really don't think Windows 7 should take 6 hours to get to 15%!!) Yet both the hard drive and dvd are fine and the disc works great on my other PC without the sata drive in.
My motherboard is a Biostar G31-M7 TE with latest bios now what is odd is that I recently updated the BIOS to the latest one so does my problem come from here or was it always going to be a problem on this board? Also when I do have Windows 7 installed on the IDE drive when I plug in ther sata drive inside the whole system goes belly up (from freezes when transferring large files to just not seeing the drive)
I bought a 500W PSU for my computer. It was too big for my apparently shorter than standard case, but when I was building my computer I flicked the red switch on the back (the europe to US voltage one) with it switched on (but the system wasn't functioning). There was a big green flash and a slight pinging noise.Just wondering, is that PSU totally done for?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new copy of windows y 64 bit ultimate. I currently use w7 64 home premium and it is on C drive and the drive is a sata 2 drive. But when I build my new system I want to install onto a new drive which is sata 6.0 and I have made a partition on that drive (letter M) for the O/S to be installed onto ( ive allowed 150Gb ).
So my question is when I build my system and am ready to install w7 can I install onto drive M on the new sata 6.0 drive?
I will unplug the old boot drive as I understand windows will boot to that if I dont unplug it, then when I have installed new O/S on the new drive, partition "M", I will plug it back in and format the old boot drive.
So then windows will boot to drive/partition M, if that works, and C drive will just become a data drive. I understand I probably will have to do some messing in bios, so any help with that will be good.
this will be my 1st build but I am not to bad with computers and have changed cpu's/HD's/gpu's/fans etc etc. but not mobo's and cases. And never changed a O/S onto another drive with a different boot drive letter.
I have installed all the software drivers.I have reinstalled the video drivers too but i get this green color texts which disappears and returns to normal if i refresh or highlight over the text.
