View 3 RepliesWhen I transfer a file from a folder to a CD, example, after the files have been copied to the CD, as I do not need those files there anymore, I send them to the Trash bin, but somehow they remain on the same folder with 0 bytes.I have tried everything to make the names of those files disappear with no success. Disk Clean Up has failed and other programs as well.I have observed that this particular behaviour happens mainly with .pps files. They remain on my PPS folder but with o bytes. How can I remove them from the folders?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am selling a laptop to a co-worker but am having troubles changing the user name. This is windows 7 home premium 64 bit. The folders under "users" are the "public" and the my name. I want to change it from my name to their name but it has a lock symbol on the icon and I cannot figure out how to do it. I was able to go into user accounts and change the name there, no problem. But the "users" folder will not change also. How do I do this? I do not want to do a fresh install or anything - this laptop is only one month old but I ended up not liking it. I already installed Abode professional, Office Professional 2010, and a bunch of other software that the buyer is paying me extra for, so doing a clean install would screw that up for them. Is there any way to change the folder name or are they just stuck with it?

I kept a few hidden files in a USB drive and later in my machine windows 7 OS was reinstalled..when I tried to access it again, all files and folders coming as green and not accessible.
I tried a few things like right-click and turn off "Encrypt content to secure data", or adding my account and giving full permission. But nothing worked.
regarding the contacts being synchronized with Outlook. All my contacts have their first names under 'First Name', but their last names under 'Middle Name'. I want to copy the middle names of everyone to the 'Last Name' box. There are more than 700 contacts and I can't be doing this individually for each contact.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHow can I find out which of my files path names were too long?I'm backing up my files from one external drive to another (just dragged a giant folder over and waited over a day for it to paste the entire thing), now I come to read "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location with a shorter path." The destination folder saimply reads "CD2", which could literally be anything. What's the entire path?I've got Windows 7.So I'd gladly shorten whatever path(s) and try again, but how do I read entire path of which files were too long to be in which destination folder?Don't know what to do, the window is still popped up that has the option of either "Skip" or "cancel" along which a check box at the bottom that reads "do this for all current items (11 found)", I haven't clicked anything yet.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I access my Music files (2600 files, 185 folders, 20GBs) on my Samsung (D) drive I get this slow green line in the address bar going from left to right, takes like 15 seconds to go across, I'm assuming it's indexing(?) the music folder and can't really do anything until that green line finishes going across, is there something I can turn on or off to speed up the "green line" so I do not have to wait the 15 seconds? Would a SATA 6.0 drive help speed up the "green line"?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout 3 weeks ago I deleted two .avi files from the video folder on my PC, and for a few days afterwards they continued to reappear there. They still turn up occasionally in Explorer Resources, but when I try to delete them again, I am told that they cannot be found, so they actually have been deleted. Is there any way to get rid of these entries completely? I cannot use standard removal tools since I cannot eliminate a file that 'no longer exists' (!) on the computer.

View 29 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there are any possible things I could do to get windows 7 to hide files and folders that start with the character "." (you know like Linux).
I find many windows programs create files that are not hidden but start with ".", and while tecnically this is a problem with the program, almost all of them do this so it would be very nice if windows handled this correctly.
Are there any way to make folders undeletable? Are there any software for that?

I think I am going to have to take a couple of days to figure this out.
Couple of quick questions: 1. In the search results window, I RMB a file and select "open in new window". the new window address bar does not contain a path. It contains some search info. How do I open in a new window and have the path in the address bar?
2. It appears the search does not limit itself to file names. It is also searching for contents. How do I prevent it from searching contents.
