I get two entirely different looking prompts when overwriting, one asks me if I want to overwrite folders and I can select Yes and press Enter. The other asks me if I want to overwrite files and when I highlight Copy and Replace and press Enter nothing happens. I have to move my mouse over it and click to make it go.
i use BitLord to download random stuff anyways the Downloads Folder Shows up like this : Now when i open Nero up it shows this Weird thing is if i hover over the folder from normal window it says the Downloads folder is only 800mb (as it is only showing me one item) yet from Nero it says the folder is over 9 Gigs. Im set as Owner of the folder and i have all permissions set for me however i am still unable to see these files outside of nero and i don't know why. When i go and try to change the permissions on the folders (the locked ones) windows says the files/folders doesn't exist...
ImageShack - Online Photo and Video Hosting I just did a 2 pass overwrite of my entire HDD using copywipe, but yet Easus is still finding over 60,000 + NTFS file records and near 4,000 files identified? Why didn't the overwrite erase this data? I don't understand - I've been at this for a whole day now. I literally formatted, booted from a usb and ran copywipe, did a 2 pass overwrite, and reinstalled windows. How do I get rid of these NTFS file records?I'm looking through my RAW recovered files and it's still all there...
I downloaded and installed a PDF software named PDFMate to convert my images to PDF file for work. It was easy and my Antivirus scanner didn't object or detect any threats (unlike some other JPG to PDF converter software I tried). The problem was that the PDFMate screen display was totally messy. Text was overwriting icons the BUILD button was half missing. Why did it happen?
I was going to restore my netbook OS back to XP from Windows 7 (The fancy looks aren't worth the trouble) and I found I had apparently deleted my XP restore file. So I decided to stick with Windows 7 for awhile. One irritating feature was that my files and folders within a folder were not in alphabetical order. It took me 30 min of messing around to finally alphabetize one folder and apply that to all folders
I was wondering if there are any possible things I could do to get windows 7 to hide files and folders that start with the character "." (you know like Linux). I find many windows programs create files that are not hidden but start with ".", and while tecnically this is a problem with the program, almost all of them do this so it would be very nice if windows handled this correctly.
I have a windows 7 ultimate OS and i am trying to solve an small issue i am having. Each time i open windows explorer to view my documents i get all my folders at the top and my files below. I have done everything to change this around and it does not work. Question how do i get my files to be at the top and my folders at the bottom, it keeps giving me a folder button and displaying folders instead of files.
When I go to C:/users/my name/My Documents and select it, the right panel displays the files on top and the folders below. When I go to Libraries/Documents/My Documents and select it, the right panel displays the folders above the files. Most of my folders display the sub-folders above the files. How can I make all selected folders display the sub-folders above the files? None of the usual SORT routines change this display mode.
I have 10,000 pictures in a couple of hundred folders so I'm trying to Re-set all folders and files to details or large or whatever and I forgot how to do it because it has been a long time since
Just got my Windows 7 computer. I am used to XP file search dialog box. I looked at the "How to configure and fully utilize Windows 7 Search" on this site.
I think I am going to have to take a couple of days to figure this out.
Couple of quick questions: 1. In the search results window, I RMB a file and select "open in new window". the new window address bar does not contain a path. It contains some search info. How do I open in a new window and have the path in the address bar?
2. It appears the search does not limit itself to file names. It is also searching for contents. How do I prevent it from searching contents.
I want to delete all the files/folders with a certain name like the __MACOSX folders that comes with many icon packs. Is there a tool or script that can do that?I think there should a command-line instruction to do this but i couldn't find it.
Is there any way to drag and drop picture files in Windows7 ? It seems that I can organize them by folder, month, day, rating or tag but I can't randomly move them around?
Anything I try to open, I get the: Security Download or open window. So I download the file or folder, and it takes me to the file-folder, but windows won't open it, and the same security download or run Box asks me to Download it again. Thus, nothing opens.
My OS is windows 7 I use a Freecom 500gb external drive and find that I am requested to seek permission from the administrator (myself I think) to delete some files that have many digit numbers and are empty.I find I cannot delete them there are about a dozen of them
I had a spy-ware issue and ran Malwarebytes to fix it.My desktop was free of icons except for Firefox and the recycling bin, but my background wallpaper remains the same as it was before.I am unable to create shortcuts (when I right click on the desktop and click 'create shortcut' the menu disappears, but nothing happens). I can still make folders just fine.My documents, music, video, and pictures folders are all empty when viewed with windows explorer. Yet the files still show up when I run programs like SpaceSniffer. My music libraries contained in specific programs (I primarily use Windows Media Player) are still fine, and songs and videos play in programs even though they cannot be found in their folders. Saving files into these folders is not a problem, and they remain there when I reboot. The files previously there do not show up after a reboot, however. When I find a file in WMP, and right click on it to 'view containing folder', the folder comes up empty.
I was attempting to backup my system to an external drive, interrupted it, then all the files I saved on my desktop were gone. I can't find them through the start menu search nor are they in the recycle bin. I tried to restore the system to an earlier save, no dice.
1. are the files gone?
2. what happened?
3. is it a bad idea to save files to the desktop? It looked like that is where windows places my documents by default? Is it dangerous to just create C://documents for a computer with one user?
I have a very strange problem. I have recently experienced that MP3 files and JPEG files disappear when I edit them. I have for example rotated a JPEG image in the Windows photo viewer and changed the album name on an MP3 file in windows media player. After this I can no longer find the file in the folder. The MP3 file can still play in windows media player but in the folder where the files used to be it says "folder is empty". What is going on? I do not understand it
Yesterday night I was in my friends house and he seriously needed help. Hope you genius people help him. All his folders, file and shortcuts show as LNK file in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I tried scanning his PC with avast!, MalwareBytes, Hitman Pro 3.5 and SAS, but the result was the same. How did it come up? My friend was chatting with his uncle in Skype, he asked him to download 3 pictures, the pictures where names as LNK file, my friend opened the file and after that all his programs, files and shortcut was defaulted to (file name).LNK. He wasted $35 to renew his windows, and he doesn't wants to format either. So is there any way to revert to normal state rather than formatting or system restoring?
I have a HD from my now ex-W7 pc which has a whole lot of files and images I need to lift.I have hooked the drive (sata) to my XP pc and tried to access them, but - nsurprisingly - they are not accessible straight off...What steps do I need to take to be able to read and recover these files to my XP machine?
sort files and folders alphabetically yet? I have my music on an external hard drive. I have a folder for every artist, and in those folders theres a folder for each album. The only thing on this hard drive is music. In Windows XP, I could sort by name and show in groups. This way everything was kept alphabetical, all the A bands were under A , all the B bands were under B With Windows 7 I get gigantic chunks of A-H, I-P and Q-Z. I have over nearly 600 folders on this drive. Grouping all those folders into 3 giant blocks is nothing short of useless. Is there any way at all to sort like XP?
If I were to do a cable transfer using my usb transfer cable and two pc's both loaded with Win7 Home Premium. One brand new. Should I load the "other programs" (Windows Office etc.) on the new machine before I hook up and try the transfer? With this last transfer that wasn't made clear. I went from XP Pro to Win 7 HP using an external HDD. I had to reconnect and run the xfer wizard twice to get all my email items transferred. Again after updating the Office package to SP3.
I am running Windows 7 and have various Folders on the C drive, including Pictures (C://Pictures). When I open it the folders and pictures are not there yet when I right click and look at Properties it tells me there is 17.7Gb of files. I thought I had resolved the issue by going back to the restore point for the main folder (C://Pictures) and indeed they became visible again. On checking the folder this morning they have gone again. I have the same problem with my (C://Users Documents) folder - clicking on Properties tells me there are 697Mb of docuemnts but 'hovering' the cursor I'm told only 497Mb are there & the missing folders and documents are not visible.
The problem began after picking up malware which I have successfully removed from the machine at the weekend. I did use the Restore Points to successfully restore a music folder as the same problem occurred and it is still there! The Restore Point I used has now 'moved on' so I am unable to use this facility.
I was moving my pictures to different folders, I was dragging and dropping rather than copying and pasting, but I realized after I was done that they weren't being passed to the folders and they're also nowhere to be found.
I don't know what to do and I'd hate to think my files are lost forever.
I am trying to share folders on my deskop with my laptop, but I need something that will allow me to edit photos in lightroom on my laptop that are stored on my desktop via Lightroom. Thought that maybe windows 7 "homegroup" feature might allow me to do this, but when I try and setup a homegroup on my desktop it says "Cannot create a homegroup on this computer"Accessing my desktop via logmein.com, to try and set this up. My desktop is currently several miles away, and I need to access those files. I read something about deleting a file in /peernetworking/idstore.sst - Deleted it and rebooted, still get the same error.
How do you move documents/files/graphics from Windows 7 document folder to specifically named folders on a flash drive? But it only shows the letter of the drive I wish to move the item to and not the individual folders. How can I put a document for say a cookie recipe in a folder on flash drive named Deserts?
I notice when I save my edited video to my video folder they will show along with all the video icon blank pages usully title after what i named the video along with 'Index File" 'AVI.Index File' or a 'SCN File'. Im sure they are important but they sure clutter up the folder. Is there a way to hide these kinds of files or documents?
I have an image of my the hard drive from my XP system on an external drive. I'd like to copy the entire file structure to the windows 7 hard drive, retaining the folder structure. Then I'd like to set all the folders, sub-folders, and files to read-only to protect myself from accidentally modifying or adding anything.
I am OWNER and the only user at this point. Will probably have one other user in the future whom I will want to also not have permission to modify these folders and files.
I have been getting the following error (several in a day) when I try to rename files and/or folders via 'explorer.exe' GUI Now...this happens out of the blue so to speak and despite what the pop up widget says, the file or folder, in this case, was NOT opened in another process. In the above example, I was just trying to 'rename' the folder is all. I didn't even go into the folder at all.
The OS is Windows 7 64 Bit w/SP1 and 8GB DDR3.
The only things I can think of that might be causing the problem are the fact I have an 120GB OCZ Agility II SSD as my system drive with the following optimizations in place
