I was moving my pictures to different folders, I was dragging and dropping rather than copying and pasting, but I realized after I was done that they weren't being passed to the folders and they're also nowhere to be found.
I don't know what to do and I'd hate to think my files are lost forever.
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15, intel core i7.
I have a very strange problem. I have recently experienced that MP3 files and JPEG files disappear when I edit them. I have for example rotated a JPEG image in the Windows photo viewer and changed the album name on an MP3 file in windows media player. After this I can no longer find the file in the folder. The MP3 file can still play in windows media player but in the folder where the files used to be it says "folder is empty". What is going on? I do not understand it

The reason this happened is my HD broke down and I had to send it to a company (ChronoDisk) to extract the information to another HD. This is how they sent it.
I need to move those files because the path used by many programs/files are broken. Is it possible to do this without actually cut/pasting? My guess is it might crash half way or simply not work at all because there is not enough empty space to make a cut.
I have a partition on my hard drive and i would like to move my user files e.g. My Documents, pictures, videos etc.
I was wondering can i just drag the folder "Users" to the partition.
So basically I would like to know how i get the "Users" folder over to another partition.
I have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!

In feb 2012, I checked in a file, under last years folder, and all good. However, last week, I went to check on a couple of files, and noticed that the FOLDER icon had a padlock on it. As i have no idea how to put a padlock on. Then an IT man told me to follow the web, regarding unlocking the folder, which I di. To my horror of all horror, every file under that specif folder has disappeared in the blue. My Computer person, has checke d my desktop PC thoroughly, all avenues, including trwling through my hard drive, for the files and also in case it had 'self deleted'. Not a trace anywhere>

now I dont feel happy about saving docs onto my computer. My back-up overwrites each file update each time, so not showing here either!!
few folders in my external hard drive are missing. I am running a scan and hopefully it'll fix, but it takes so long to scan the hard drive as it's a 3 TB hard drive.

I then assumed when moving folder into it they will be automatically created-> moved "downloads" folder first and selected that above folder without creating a "downloads" folder in that one and select that one. I realized something went wrong and wanted to move it back. On moving it back i made the same mistake, so the whole user profile folder is now the download folder and it is called "downloads" and not after the user name. However right-click does not work on that one. Can't change the path or move it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a new 1.5TB HDD and 16gb SSD. I installed Win 7 on the SSD and formatted the the new HDD. My main issue is the SSD is running out of memory abnormally quickly. I find myself running CCleaner every 30 mins... I don't know where the memory is coming from.... Windows takes up 12gb so that leaves me 4gb. I'd like to transfer any major folders like My Documents, etc so I can leave my drive at 12gb and everything else go on my completely empty 1.5tb drive.

Could not find this item
[Try Again] [Cancel]
If I click cancel, nothing will happen, the operation is cancelled.
If I click Try Again, the operation will proceed, the folder will move.
This isn't really a problem, but a HUGE nuisance.

I wish to partition my rebuilt PC into C: (OS only), D: (games and utilities), and E: (data) drives, my intention being to make future upgrades or OS reinstalls easier. (The machine currently only has one HDD.)Therefore I want to move C:users to the E: partition. I've already searched for ways to do this and there are seemingly three ways of going about it:1. It has worked ok till now but I'm sure i screwed a few things up when i did it because random programs still try to install on my SSD and when the install makes the shortcuts, the paths for them are usually the wrong drive.I want to do a fresh install now, but i wanna do this correctly this time. how to make it so ONLY the windows folder in on the SSD and every thing else that actually takes up a lot of room on the drives goes on my larger HDD. edit: why wont it let me make separate paragraphs, it just smooshes it into a single one.

This just started happening a few days ago and I can't seem to determine why? I also cannot seem to run the perfmon report as my system won't stay running long enough to generate it and I can't seem to run the report tool from safe mode.
I have a folder that that no longer shows any files in explorer. I right click on this folder, click on properties and see that there 171 MB of 59 files in this folder, yet in the explorer view it says there are none. Properties says that these files are not hidden. So how can I see and access my files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate external drive hooked up. I back all my data up to it. The other day I accessed it and to my shock ALL FILES were gone. Poof. We're talking thousands of files. Weird though, the folder structure/tree was still completely in tact!! Every folder is there, it's just the files that are gone. I used Recuva This and got about 60% of it back. The other 40% is gone forever I guess. Very sad as there were about 500 family images that we lost.
Anyway, I add more files to this drive about three days ago to test. Sure enough they TOO are gone now but their folders are still there! Ugh! Important to note these files are NOT going to the recycle bin for some reason. They are just being zapped from the drive somehow.
SOMETHING/SOMEONE is making my files disappear. This drive is NOT being shared on the network. I ran scan disk and no errors were found. I have run numerous anti virus and spyware removal software and only found some spam trojans. Nothing of the malicious variety (that I know of). I also ran SeaTools and the drive seems fine. I have another USB drive and it is also fine and files are NOT disappearing from it.

A computer has a 1TB drive as the boot drive (C. It had 800GB of files on it. When the user booted recently, most of the files were deleted from the hard drive. I installed the drive in another computer, and the files show up as deleted. The computer passes malware and virus scans without issue.
I'm currently using Recuva to try to recover the available files (about 80% of the deleted files appear to be recoverable, but some critical files are not.) The recovered files are being saved to an external USB drive.
The only time I've had this problem before was corrected with chkdsk. I'm very cautious about doing anything with this drive until I have recovered all that I can manually.
It passed Spinrite with no issues. The computer is Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit.
this may be similar to some of the problems already mentioned but: we are editing images as we have done thousands of times before but today for some reason when we hit it he apply button the image file disappears. We can restore the file but everytime today we try to edit the properties of the file

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had to do a reinstall of a Win 7 32bit pro OS for a user, but before I did, I moved her data to my machine, did the reinstall on her and then moved her data to her profile.
I logged in as her, and verified that her "my docs" and favorites were there and that I can access them. However, all of the data icons are transparent (folders on her desktop and the actual data in her mydocs).
Most of it is pictures and movies and I can access them, but everything is clear. I did notice that even the favorites are transparent and they do not show in the browser (IE) even though the link is in fact in the Favorites directory in her profile.
Can any one tell me a good reason why when I move a folder of folders and files any executables in those folders loose their compatibility and administrative settings?
Is there any way to prevent this happening?
If not, is there any way to apply this setting for a collection of files rather than one by one?
I was moving files around to save data so I can repartition my HDD. I noticed that the Moving status window did not have the details button.
But I had the details before, but it when I was copying files. Is this normal for Windows 7?
I bought it primarily so I could play Pokemon Black online with uber leet hax level 100 teams (PokeGen/PokeSav/etc) and such. I put the Kingston into the adapter, then put the adapter into the SD port, and then I can view the card on my computer.At first I was able to put the .nds file for Pokemon on there, and also the firmware for Wood. I was able to open Black just fine on my DS and play it for a while. I made a save file in-game that I was going to later edit on my computer (using the programs mentioned earlier), so I saved, turned off the DS, and put the card back in my computer. I can view the .nds file as well as the .sav file that I made, however when I try to bring the .sav file onto my computer, I get an error reading "Can't read from the source file or disk". I get this same error when trying to put files on it now (if it matters, it was just some random 1MB video file I found that I tried to put on the card this time)

I currently have a HDD with my os and about 70gb of programs on it. I recently bought a 60gb SSD, and would like to transfer my os across to it. I also wanted to keep the programs working on the HDD they are on currently. If this is not possible i could just uninstall majority of the programs so that the os will fit onto the SSD, or i could completely reinstall all the programs, but this would take a lot of time. If so, i would like to know how much of my settings ect that i can save for the new os.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I move folders from my shared folders ( Users/public/public documents for example) it copies the files instead of just simply moving them. The folders are on the same hard drive/partition so there does not seem to be any reason it should start doing this. I dont know what I could have changed on the computer to cause this to happen either. it is quite a frustrating problem however because large files take a while to transfer when they should be moved instantly.
