How can I find out which of my files path names were too long?I'm backing up my files from one external drive to another (just dragged a giant folder over and waited over a day for it to paste the entire thing), now I come to read "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location with a shorter path." The destination folder saimply reads "CD2", which could literally be anything. What's the entire path?I've got Windows 7.So I'd gladly shorten whatever path(s) and try again, but how do I read entire path of which files were too long to be in which destination folder?Don't know what to do, the window is still popped up that has the option of either "Skip" or "cancel" along which a check box at the bottom that reads "do this for all current items (11 found)", I haven't clicked anything yet.
I have two .csv files on my desktop that have names that are too long, windows 7 will not let me delete them or change the names to shorten them, I can drag them around the desktop and that is about all I can do.
i'm having a problem not with installing soundpools on my system, but with actually getting all of the samples recognised within the library of magix music maker. i know for a fact that it has something to do with it's inability to pick up on long file names that don't have an underscore for spaces on many of them.i did at one point see a video that explained how to use a program called advanced renamer to actually put the underscore in those filenames, without having to trawl through all of them and manually putting_the_underscores_in_cause_it_would_drive_anybody_barmy (the number of times i just hit the bracket key in that alone was almost enough). so i've tried looking through the forums on the ar website, and i looked for any useful 'how to' vid on Internet, but they're all about just clicking on 'adding styles' which isn't what i'm looking for. so i was wondering (as well as hoping and praying), if anyone with the voice of experience (if not expertise), could actually tell me how to do this with advanced renamer, cause i'm afraid logic isn't exactly my strong point.i get filenames in my sound samples from the soundpool in subfolders which are in turn in folders given a name to indicated their 'style' (rock, chillout etc).the filenames might look something like
grand piano a.ogg grand piano c.ogg grand piano f sharp.ogg but they need to look like grand_piano_a.ogg grand_piano_f_sharp.ogg
i am using windows 7, and magix music does work on 7, it just refuses to handle long file names like it should. magix has been asked about this numerous times, and nothing has been forthcoming from them, so i really have come here as a last resort to finding out how to get this sorted out.
I generally have pretty long File names on files on my pc. Not sure what the limit in digits is, but generally no problem. But, if I try to download many of these with a particularly long file name to a USB memory stick, it comes back with an error MSG. That the name is too long. But, it wasn't too long on my pc. Why is this happening ?
Destination Path Too Long when Copying I copied my data folders/files from my winXP C-drive to my external hard-drive & then to my new win7 C-drive. After about 20-25 minutes of copying (with 5 seconds remaining) ... I got the attached message ... (2 found) ... I clicked Skip ... same message again (1 found) ... I clicked Skip ... same message again (0 found) ... I clicked Skip. "You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path." I compared the "JAR Control Panel Buttons" source & destination folders & found 3 files that were not copied. Not knowing how much too long the paths were, I guessed & they copied OK with shortened names.
I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 last weekend and I must say its been a really bad decision, Win7 is not so much of an improvement to me. We always think the grass is greener. The other idiot thing I did or didn't do was not back up so I could roll back to Vista so I am stuck with this now and I really hate it.
My issue (1 of many) is I can't delete a folder, I am guessing its some residual from Vista its 'My Documents' but inside it is an endless list of empty folders 'My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music/My Documents/My Music...etc.
When I try to delete I get this message... "The source file names are larger than is supported by the file system. Try moving to a location which has a shorter path name, or try renaming to shorter names before attempting this operation" I have tried everything, I have tried renaming every file in the folder, they just keep coming back, no matter how many i delete. I have tried using software such as Unlocker or devices to delete on boot, I have moved the folders location, even tried mapping a drive and deleting with command prompt - nothing.

So I bought this like a year ago and only had the basic Medieval installed (Without kingdoms) I got into it again and wanted to play it with kingdoms so I deleted Medieval and tried reinstalling it again. Im not good with computers at all but I have Windows 7 and I played it on this computer before and I have a good computer so I know it's compatible.I put the Cd in and click the green launch Icon and the main menu comes up. I click install then it comes up with the four total wars and I check all of them and click next, and then when I get to the next page it asks me to put in disc 2 and select where I would like to install it. I put in the Cd and then pick where to install it (Default is the CD it is being installed from) I have tried my C drive and my external drive but neither works. A error message pops up and says Setup could not find a file or the specified path or disc. Please check that the proper disk is insert or specify new path.
how do find the bootpath for windows 7 which was my old OS from recently installed windows XP OS.Since i have installed XP i could boot into my windows 7. It only boots in XP where do i find the boot path so that to add it in startup and recovery in XP
regarding the contacts being synchronized with Outlook. All my contacts have their first names under 'First Name', but their last names under 'Middle Name'. I want to copy the middle names of everyone to the 'Last Name' box. There are more than 700 contacts and I can't be doing this individually for each contact.
after i reinstall windows 7 ultimate i try to install Internet music downloader and it says: the system cannot find path specified, i try to run as administrator but it doesn't works. i open troubleshoot compatibility and it says: incompatible application. i am using 64 bit windows 7 and i get this error on every program i want to install.
I'd like to use Teracopy for all copying etc. But after moving to 7 from xp it's giving me these errors. I have Win 7 Pro 64-bit. I copy from network drive for which I have read and write permissions as windows' own copy works fine. But with teracopy I immediately get error "Open error: The system cannot find the path specified". I'm trying to copy, not move, a folder with several subfolders from a network drive into local C:. I have administrator privileges. It seems that Teracopy somehow doesn't have even read permission for the network drive. Taking ownership of the network drive (samba share) is not possible.
When I put a file into the recycle bin, if I have to recover it from the recycle bin, when I take it out it seems to have lost the file name information. Screen shots below.I created a file, a folder, and a second file inside the folder. url..I put the files in the recycle bin, and they retain their file names. url...When I take them out, their names turn into $RE0HPI9 and $RX5JNJA.txt, which don't represent the original file name at all. url...
i just wanted to backup my computer onto my external hd and suddenly the message appeared: not enough space. i had a look around and found those really strange files, that use all the not use space thats available on my hd. some of those names include symbols that i dont even have on my keyboard.
I need to robocopy many files which starts with the same name for Example (Ari, Arit, Ariel, Arik, Aris)I tried robocopy source_fileari*.* destination_fileari*.* however it is not working?
When I transfer a file from a folder to a CD, example, after the files have been copied to the CD, as I do not need those files there anymore, I send them to the Trash bin, but somehow they remain on the same folder with 0 bytes.I have tried everything to make the names of those files disappear with no success. Disk Clean Up has failed and other programs as well.I have observed that this particular behaviour happens mainly with .pps files.They remain on my PPS folder but with o bytes.How can I remove them from the folders?
About 3 weeks ago I deleted two .avi files from the video folder on my PC, and for a few days afterwards they continued to reappear there. They still turn up occasionally in Explorer Resources, but when I try to delete them again, I am told that they cannot be found, so they actually have been deleted. Is there any way to get rid of these entries completely? I cannot use standard removal tools since I cannot eliminate a file that 'no longer exists' (!) on the computer.
By mistake I changed the two pst filenames within windows explorer (Windows7 and Office 2010) instead of just changing the names in the navigation pane of outlook. Now send/receive no longer works. After trying to rechange the names in windows explorer to the previous verion I get the message: operation can not be executed because windows search Protocol host ist open.
For the last 2 days i have been trying to diagnose why my PC is taking anything between 1min 30sec and 3min to shutdown.I found that if i booted into my desktop (fully loaded) then shut down, my shutdown time is between 9 and 12 seconds! However if i boot into desktop then use any program or game, then i had the long shutdown time.Event log showed the ShutdownKernelTime to be between 120000 and 150000 when i had the long shutdowns.For your info, for testing purposes the programs i used are firefox 10.0 (opening 3 websites) and Windows Live Mail. IF for any reason i got a successful quick shutdown after running these i then ran GTA IV for 5min then tried a shutdown.So far i have tried: Disabling all services and startup entries in msconfig. Got same results as above Various combinations of service and startup entries in msconfig. Same result as above Booting into safe mode running same test. I get a successful quick shutdown. Checked the registry for any page file clearing at shutdown. Complete disk defrag Advanced System Care 5 Scan and repair Updating any drivers if update available Running a shutdown trace using Windows SDK. This however works by restarting the PC then running the trace so imitates me booting in to desktop and shutdown again which works fine so as expected the trace shows everything working as it should. I tried adding firefox and Windows live mail to startup folder hoping just the simple opening of these programs would cause whatever happens to give me a long shutdown time. It seems though like i need to open the 3 websites to create the issue however the only time to do this would be the delayed shutdown stage which im advised you shouldn't touch anything at this stage? could anyone advise on this? Hopefully one of you's out there with a bit more knowledge can point me in a new direction that puts me closer to solving this.I used to have Ntune (Nvidia) for GPU Fan control and MSI Afterburner for GPU Overlocking, however after trying one after the other enabled/disabled etc i found i got successful quick shutdowns but long shutdown then returned after playing GTA IV. I uninstalled MSI Afterburner and now only use Ntune for both GPU Overcloking and Fan Control. I recently got a new laptop running Win 7 Pro 64-bit and as part of my initial third-party software installations I inadvertently overwrote the 'Path' environment variable (instead of appending to it). I subsequently tried adding c:windowssystem32; to it but don't know if this is doing anything. I have not managed to find any definitive information on what the Path ev should be on a new Windows 7 64-bit install.The thing is I loaded a batch process which I had on another Win 7 (32-bit) system but when I key the bat filename in cmd.exe (without the extension or double-click it) I get this error:"The syntax of the command is incorrect."If I key the bat filename with the extension, it runs but then stops because it seems not to recognize another program which the bat file calls even though I have the Path ev set for that program.
Every picture stored in my computer is not opening, when I try to open pics then windows (7) says: "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". Is I'm victim of virus, or windows is corrupted??
I have a computer with three partitions, the first with 100GB exclusively to Windows 7 (already installed), a partition for applications and another partition for personal files (photos, text, music, movies, etc.). I wonder how to configure the location of "My Documents", so that all users have only their personal files on drive of personal files. In Windows Explorer changed in each of the users the location of the Documents, Music, Video and Pictures.
- After changed the location of the folders above, there is still the same folders in C:users , and there are user settings that are there defined, eg Desktop, in C:Users. Is there any way to move all settings and folders to another drive? - Is there any way to do this operation automatic? for future users I will have to repeat the same operation, how can I indicate that all future users will have their settings and documents specified in this specific drive?
I installed some applications and found that some applications did not demand that the location where it was set to be installed the application, having been installed in C:users and C:Program Files, intended that all applications (except for windows and Office) were installed in drive applications. How do I specify that this is the default drive for installation applications? Keeping the installations of Windows + Office in this drive. Applications installed by the administrator are available for all users or must be given access to other users ? How done? In the drive file, which should contain the users and shared files, meant that each user only gets access their documents and shared. Where and how can make this configuration?
I just looked at my environment PATH setting, and the only thing that's there is the path to UltraEdit.I was trying to install new software from a DVD (setup.exe at the outer layer), and it could not find any of the DLLs that were located in folder on the same DVD.How do I set up Windows 7 Pro 64 so that it will search inside this DVD, at least temporarily?
Ok, I have looked everywhere and tried several "solutions" to get windows to recognize where Java.exe so it can run .jar files.I'm running windows 7 64-bit with java 1.6 32-bit installed. And when I try to install craftbukkit I only get errors.I have copied these errors so you can view them at...So I searched all over google and tried to go to my computer, advanced settings, path and add the path there but i still get the same errors.I've been all over the mine craft and bukkit forums but no one there can explain how to fix it
When I try to delete a file, either by choosing the "delete" option on the context menu or by pressing the "delete" key with the file selected, it take between something like 20 to 60 seconds to show me the usual confirmation window (the one with "Are you sure you want to delete file XXX.X?"). It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.
for a while now I've been getting a lot of BSODS and random crashes shortly after startup and i don't know what is causing them.The problem does not seem to occur in safe mode.
I could not find the correct thread to post so please accept my apologies if this is an old resolved bug.This has been winding me for a while now, but today it has totally done my head in.! when I access my music folders from external USB and I click on a folder the grey bar at the top of the folder window takes ages to move across... then I get the red cross in the button. This is a major problem now, the cpu fan goes crazy and well its quite disturbing.To get around this I would access my file from within the music editing software to avoid this problem, but as I'm a Mastering Engineer I need to access the files in their respective folders.
This was never a problem on any other machine I have had before. All drives are fine tested on other machines. They are good. So today I tried it again, same thing. The grey bar at the top went crazy when I tried to access a wav folder to master with 2.5 gigs of data in.The grey bar at the top slowly moves across the top then the red cross thing again in the button, I refresh and the same thing again. Meanwhile the fan goes on and the thing then seems to hang on finding files in folders. So I back out of the folder close it down. Then I went to My computer on the start menu... erm the grey bar again slowly moves to the right, No C drive shows up is empty and the fan kicks in and it sounds like it is going to take off.Then I have to close the machine down as it cannot find anything in thefolders.This is very strange indeed. This only happen when I search for files in folders before hand, normally I can see my drives when I click my computer.I have just rebooted the laptop now and it is good but when I open a folder it goes nuts.
Why is this. Like 10 minutes plus and it still says recycling. It should only take a second. Is it bad to let it continue at its own pace or should I restart the PC and try it again?
