RC Freezes When Coming Back

May 6, 2009

When Windows 7 shuts does my monitors after 15 minutes of inactivity, it crashes completely when I bring it back.

So when I left for breakfast this morning and came back, I moved the mouse to get the display on again...the mouse moved around for a few seconds then stopped. Freeze. No task manager nothing...I had to pull the plug and restart the computer, and it works fine.

I replicated this as well. I just left it sitting there for 15 minutes, the monitors went off. I went to bring it back and again, freeze.

Only programs that I was probablly running during both instances are uTorrent and Firefox (No-addons, one maybe two tabs.)

My screen saver is set to "none" if that helps. For now, I can alleviate this issue by setting the "Turn Display Off After" to "Never" in the power settings, which is fine with me. I just thought I'd post this up.

Computer Freezes On Shutdown/hibernate

Aug 5, 2011

I have an ASUS G51JX-X2 laptop with 8 GB RAM (4 2GB chips). I've had this computer for about 18 months without any problems. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the computer hung up when trying to hibernate. The screen was black and the hard drive light was off, but the touchpad, wireless, bluetooth, and power lights remained on. I left it and went to work, and when I returned it was still in this state so I held the power button to shut it down. The computer started normally, but then that night when I went to shut the computer down, it did the same thing. I made some changes to disable the services at start up in an attempt to narrow down the problem and I discover that is I choose restart, the computer shuts down and restarts fine (although it sits with the screen black and the lights on for a while). It will not shut down or hibernate though. what's going on:

I thought I might have gotten a driver update so I looked at Windows Update and I hadn't gotten anything since 7/21. I did get one on 8/3, but that was after I started having problems. Using msconfig I disabled the start up services (except MS) and start up items to see if that helped and rebooted. The reboot worked, but then the shutdown failed again. I read in some forums that it might be related to the wireless, so I used the switch on the front of the computer to turn off wireless and bluetooth before shutting down - no luck. I thought it might be a problem with the memory since that's a relatively recent upgrade so I created a boot CD and ran memtest86+. It ran all night through 4 passes and no errors. I ran chkdsk on the hard drive just to be safe and it didn't find any errors. I checked to see if ClearPageFileAtShutdown was set to 1 in the registry, but it is 0. I checked to make sure that the bios is up to date and it is (version 208).

PC Freezes Minutes After Waking From Hibernate 7 RTM

Aug 14, 2009

I am running windows 7 Ultimate rtm on an Acer Aspire 5515 and it goes into/wakes from sleep mode just fine. However when waking from hibernation, it logs in fine and then a minute or two later, it freezes forcing me to hold down the power button to shut it off. When booted back up, of course i get the option of going into 'safe mode' hit start normally and everything is fine.

I could just not use Hibernate but it would be convenient if when going to school, i could use hibernate so I still have all my battery power when i resume since sleep still uses a little of the battery up. Is there a fix for this or is it just a bug M$ will have to eventually fix through updates?

Issues Coming Up Since Installation Of Windows 7/

Mar 3, 2012

I've recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 using the x64 version.I've had hardly any improvements in performance that even amount to the problems I've been having. Perhaps it is due to hardware issues or if it is my computer being outdated. I am running a 2009 Asus i7 CG5290 computer, which came with Vista.my issues are:

1. Randomly my keyboard will blink and my mouse will stutter, and I cannot type without the keyboard acting on its own. If I enter a sentence the registry for space will go out and other times I will have eeeeeeeeeeee typed when I pressed e once.

2. Occasionally my internet will go haywire, dropping from 20 mbps to 1.3 mbps. These spikes are incredibly annoying and when they do occur, the above issue happens and my mouse pointer will be freezing around everywhere.

3. My computer will freeze, often playing MW3 or watching a video, and a loud, very eerie buzzing noise will start up, and a blue screen will occur. I have not been able to further ***** the blue screen because the information that pops up will disappear as my computer shuts off almost immediately.

The first and second issues usually fix itself temporarily if I do a hard reset on both my computer and modem/router. The third issue has prevented me from playing games on Steam, as my internet connection always blows out after playing for a few minutes. I'm thinking that I have a virus, but Malware Bytes hasn't given me any positives. If there is any other information I can provide to help resolve this issue, please do not hesitate to ask.

Windows 7 Not Coming Out Of Sleep Mode?

Apr 18, 2011

Just built this computer last week and I've had problems when the computer goes to sleep. When I press a key or move the mouse, the computer apparently wakes up but the monitor is still black and the PC speaker is gives off a three beep pattern. After a cold reboot, the system/win7 does not restart, but rather resumes the task I was doing prior to the sleeping mode. One more thing, does cold rebooting affect ssd's the same way as normal hd's?

Windows Starup Repair Keeps Coming Up?

Jun 24, 2012

I just installed windows onto my system along side another drive which I have had a long time. The new drive (used) is much larger at 320GB. It worked ok until I tried to put in the windows updates. all the "critical" updates. Now the system won't start at all.Everytime start up repair attempts to fix it there is an error. I tried using system restore, and it could not successfully complete. Is there a way to repair this from my working hard drive? (the one I'm using right now) What has caused windows to not start?

Windows Error Recovery Screen Keeps Coming Back

Dec 23, 2011

My mothers Dell running Windows 7 has a problem where, soon after powerup, the screen goes to a Windows Error Recovery screen featuring two options, either A) Launch Startup Repair, or B) Start Windows Normally. If A is chosen, then it goes to a screen which says, Loading files at the bottom with a loading bar, then when the bar is full, the screen returns right back to the Windows Error Recovery screen. The same with starting normally.

Windows Doesn't Hibernate

Jul 16, 2012

I followed it thoroughly and unfortunately I still have no hiberfil.sys file. The system locks, the screen goes into energy saving mode, but Windows doesn't hibernate. It all began when I upgraded Ubuntu (have a dual-boot), made a clean install of the 12.04 version, seemed to get all partitions encrypted, then messed up the grub, and finally I had a hard time assigning auto-mount and read-write privileges to all of them.Ubuntu seems fine now, and Windows sleeps but can't hibernate (or allow the hybrid sleep).Windows' partition is listed as "boot", I disabled the option of auto-mount for Ubuntu, but it still doesn't work.

I have to hard boot it to get it back. I tried increasing the paging file size in virtual memory. I have 8GB of ram and I increased my paging file all the way to 16GB just to be safe. Reinstalled video card drivers.

Windows 7 Won't Shutdown, Sleep, Or Hibernate?

Jan 14, 2011

Windows 7 will will shutdown if I hold down the power button, however it will not shutdown when manually hitting "Shutdown" or just pushing the power button once.Everything looks normal when it's shutting down, it says it's shutting down. The lights on the case and fans go off, the fans shut off, yet a few seconds after the fans shutdown completely, the computer magically starts back up again. So it does shutdown (technically, all the signs are there) but it starts back up.Aside from the shutdown feature not working, sleep doesn't work (I don't use hibernate because I don't want to waste SSD write cycles). When I put the computer into sleep mode, it shuts down the fans and lights, however just like the shutdown issue, the computer powers itself back on (wake on LAN is off). Even though it is powered on, it isn't out of sleep mode. None of the peripheral devices work and I can't get the monitors to turn back on, therefore I have to hard boot the computer by holding down the power button. When I turn the computer back on, it is back where I left it before I put it into sleep mode.

Laptop Won't Recover From Hibernate In Windows 7?

Jul 23, 2009

I had Windows 7 running great on my Dell XPS M1530 Notebook, until I turned it on this morning before work and left it on. Apparently while I was gone, it went into sleep or hibernate, and then, when I turned it on last night nothing came up on my display or my second monitor. The computer acted just as if it was booting up normally, but nothing ever showed up on the LCD. I waited over an hour, thinking it may just be having a hard time recover from hibernate, but nothing happened. I then had to just reset using the power button to retry. I did that several times with the same results. Then I unplugged it and just let the charge run out, hoping it would work this morning, but same deal.

Windows 7 Won't Shutdown , Sleep Or Hibernate

Jan 15, 2011

I have seen a lot of these topics around, but I can't see to find any that answer the question.

Windows 7 Sleep Does A Hibernate Also; Won't Wake Up

Jun 2, 2011

I have a curious problem with sleep mode on my Win7 build. These issues are usually traced to needing an updated driver for the video card, but I have the most recent one and it didn't make a difference.

My system specs can be seen by clicking on More Information under my avatar, then Member Configuration. Win7 on an SSD on an Asus P7C55D Deluxe.

When I select "Sleep" from the shutdown menu, the system does go into what I usually see for sleep mode. It powers down the monitor and the moving drives, and the power light goes into a slow blink state. So far, normal. If I press the power button to come out of sleep, drives spin but the monitor does not come on and I can't do anything. Not what one wants, but not unusual if there are drivers or hardware that do not support sleep mode.

Then I pressed the hard-reset button. BIOS started as expected, but when it came time to start Win7 it restored the last session state, as if coming out of hibernate. That's unexpected: It went into the sleep state, but also wrote out hiberfile.sys. Or was that "it hibernated, but also went into sleep state?"

And Hibernate does not appear on my Shutdown menu as a choice. So for a while, I would select Sleep, cut power, and reboot. Recently, I assigned the Hibernate function to the power button, and I get a clean Hibernate when I press that button.

how I can get true Sleep mode? This same machine does true Sleep mode in XP if I boot my XP drive, with the same video card and even the same ancient SCSI card.

Windows 7 Laptop Crashes When Put Into Hibernate 0x000000fe

Jan 31, 2012

Just recently my Laptop has started to crash/hang when placed into hibernation. if I put it into hibernation the screen goes black (which normally happens) then the fan goes crazy, I have to press and hold the power button to get it to shut off. I have noticed when I've come back to my laptop during the day that I have an error message that says "windows has recovered from a serious error" just put it down to overworking. also if I leave my laptop it "sleeps" but I haven't set it to do this, and if it does sleep it crashes the same as it does when hibernating. The only thing I have done that may be causing it is I upgraded the RAM to 8GB, I ran the windows memtest and it came back with no errors.

By using a program the culprits seem to be:
afd.sys
ntoskrnl.exe
usbhub.sys
Bug code is always 0x000000fe

My Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1564, running windows 7 64 bit OEM , 8GB RAM with the newest SP, I have attached all the information as requested.
