I'm trying to install windows on my brand new SSD drive. It failed a couple times and now it says, "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks." What does that mean? Is the SSD drive junk?
so i got this cool Hp laptop... nice the bad part ... I had a single 500 gb Hard disk. only two partitions ... experimented to partition it ... 1. I upgraded my basic drive to dynamic drive ( got four partitions now) 2. My OS (win 7 home premium x64) is on one of the partiotion on the dynamic disk. QUESTIONS How do i convert back to basic... i only have my OS key no install cd? Can i take a back up or sys image that i can use later on after converting my hard disk to basic?
I am trying to install Windows 7 on a new computer and i keep getting this error message. So I am getting this error (Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The disk may fail soon) when I am trying to re-install Windows on my pc.I have tried running UbuntU to check for errors on my HD but it seems to just freeze up everytime I try to run it. And i tried to run the WD Diag504.iso for my WD20EARS HD but its telling my I need and earlier version or some crap, but I know that I have the correct version.

I have Dell Inspiron N5110 i7 and with 8Gb RAM and I have replace DVD drive with SSD disk in caddy, and that this is working fine ( when formatting I can copy files), also I have selected AHCI for SATA controller in BIOS. After that my plan is to put Win7 on SSD disk. So I have make one USB flash with win7 installation from iso file.
Then during installation when I got to point to select SSD disk as disk where OS will be installed I recieve message :
Quote : Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu
I have a new 2TB WD SATA drive for my Dell Inspiron 545 to replace a failed 1TB drive. When I get to the part of the install where it asks "Where do you want to install Windows?" there is a message "Windows cannot be installed to this disk."I clicked "Show Details" and it says "'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." I read many threads here and on other sites. The drive is visible in the BIOS and set to IDE, not RAID. The processor is Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33 GHz. The drive is connected to the same cables as the previous drive. [code]
I know there are tons of threads on this but as of yet none of them have helped.Trying to do a clean install on a Sony VAIO laptop PCG-71312l (or something close to that)Where do you want to install windows?I have Disk 0 Partition 1 with a total size of 298.1 and free space of 298.0 GB Type is primaryError message below says "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1. So if I just click on next I just get an error message of"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."I have deleted, formatted, created new partitions and restarted the computer 10 times. Nothing is getting me anywhereOh and I had to create a bootable USB from the windows ISO to USB/DVD program.I have gotten this to work just fine before with the same hard drive which was working just fine an hour ago.

I've just finished putting together a new build including:
ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 Mobo Corsair Force Series GT 180GB SSD A WD Caviar Black 1TB that I already had
I'm booting off the Win7 install disc and I get to the "Where do you want to install Windows?" step. The SSD is all unallocated space and I deleted the existing partitions on the WD. So I see:

I tried going to the BIOS but quickly discovered i had no idea what i was doing.

I'm trying to do a clean install on Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. I currently have 32-bit Vista running.I initially created a new partition, copies all my data there, then started to do the custom install. I got the message: Quote: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Quote: Esc when booting to take you into the EFI boot manager and select DVD-Drive instead of ACPI (....) string I have tried to go in to the start-up options but I don't see this option. I just keep getting back to the above error message.I have since deleted my extra partition, and intend just re-syncing my laptop's data via Dropbox (9GB - hope it will be ok!).
I recently installed windows 7 and when installing I did like 3 partitions of the hard disk but after it finished installing I saw only one hard disk driver. When formatting a massage occurred saying it will create a system partition something like that.....
I tried to re-install my windows 7 today, and at first it seemed to be going well, but then it reset me back to the windows DVD install screen and when I try to install windows it gives me this message: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. "This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOs menu." I think I need to change some BIOs settings on my motherboard or something but I am really just not sure, it's my first time build and this really is beyond me. If anyone has any experience on what to do or any advice I would be really grateful for it. The HD I am using is a Westinghouse 1T and the motherboard is a ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+.
Wasn't sure whether I should put this in WIndows 8 discussion or WIndows 7, butconsidering it's going from eight to seven, it would be more relevant to go into seven, especially since I think I've cleared eight almost entirely from the machine, but I'll explain that later. Also excuse my English right now, I've been awake for.... well longer than twenty four hours, so my mind is a bit scrambled and I'd just like the peace of mind of having this up here before I head off to sleep.
Well anyways, it feels a bit impolite to show up with nothing but a problem to present, so I'll make it a point to at least present myself. I've found this site many a times when dealing with viruses and other such problems through Google search results. I had noted what a great site this was, from the generally friendly people to the fact that anytime I would find a thread here pertaining to my problem, it would either be solved here or I would be pushed pretty drastically in the right direction. This was always my "go to" place if I ever really had a problem I needed worked out that I couldn't figure out myself. As you've already guessed, that's why I'm here in the first place.
So to sum it up shortly my friend had asked me to revert his new Windows 8 laptop back to the Windows 7 interface, me knowing more than him enough for him to trust me with it.However, I'm no IT, I'm just someone who happens to have picked up knowlege over the years from dealing with my own problems and such. It didn't seem to be an IT job, so I felt it was within my league. First thing I do is fish out the WIndows 7 installation disk. After fiddling with Windows 8 for a while trying to figure out how to boot from disk (is it just me or did Windows 8 overcomplicate that way too much?), I managed to get to the boot order settings. However, the CD drive was entirely gone from there. I assumed it was something involving the new laptop and not having the proper drivers installed or something, so I followed through a guide and got it all onto a flash drive so I could boot from that instead of dealing with the phantom CD drive this laptop seemed to have.
One step done, I felt I was heading in the right direction. However, things began taking a turn for the worst when for whatever reason it wouldn't load from the flash drive. It was recognized at least, and there was a noticable pause at start up where the light on the flash drive began blinking frantically as if it's trying to do something, but then it just skipped over to the regular Windows 8 log on screen. I tried just about all the basic troublshooting steps under the sun here, different USB slots, formatting the drive and cleanly setting it up to be a boot disk a few more times, changing the boot order again, etc. I started poking around online for solutions, and, well my fatigued brain is having a bit of a hard time remembering if I did anything other than this, but if I did I know I wasn't just poking at random switches and such in the BIOS, even I realize the danger of that and all, and if there was something other than this I know that it was only one other thing, which I suspect is what actually made it work. Now for the big delivery, MISTAKE #1 : There was a setting somewhere in there that I changed, I'm guessing I misread what was said online, but I changed it from UEFI, to CSM.
Saved changes and restarted. Booted fine from the flash drive and I was pretty happy, until the partitions read "Windows cannot be installed to this disk, The selected disk is of the GPT partition style" Now here's where I started to panic. So much so I engagued into big mistake #2. I deleted the partition containing Windows 8 and tried to make a new one for 7. That would work right? It would build the next partition to fit what Windows 7 needs to install right? Not the case, still remained with the GPT error on the newly made partition. So here I am, with a Windows 7 that refuses to install, and when I load it normally I get this wonderful screen[CODE]

I installed a power supply and removed the floppy disk from a Dell Optiplex GX520. Now when I turn it on, it says there is no serial ATA SATA-2 nor parallel ATA, Path=0 (Pri Master.) Everything is working so I don't know what the problem is.
i installed windows 7 recently then after some while i did that "system rating" thing. right clicking on "computer" - "properties" - then there's "manufacturer" "model" then "rating" in the "system" section. while doing that power went off, because i didn't have the battery on and the charger got unplugged. i restarted the laptop and a message came up telling me that "operating system not found". so i decided to re-install windows 7. then after a while a message came up telling me that there is no hard disk installed. and press f3 to restart
I have been using a USB2 external drive for months now. Today when I plugged in the cable(into the same port as I always use), Windows 7 popped a "Installing drivers" notification. Why would this happen? - nothing has changed on the system. And how can I check that all is OK, with the disk still performing as a USB2 device?
The MS W7 upgrade advisor says this machine (AMD dual Athlon 64bit, 5GB memory) can upgrade to W7.
The machine has two HDD, 250GB (with dual boot of Vista 64 Home and XP 32 Home),
and 500 GB previously accessed from these two OSes, but now with all files removed.
When I start the W7 64bit install to the 500GB drive I get the message
" Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I have an ASUS mobo with Phoenix BIOS.
As the disk was previously working and the BIOS does not seem to have a controller option I'm note sure where to go next.
New to the Tech forum boards but I am having a problem with my HP Pavillion dv6t. The hard drive went bad so I installed a new Seagate 1TB internal hard drive in the notebook. Starts up fine and then it says that "No bootable device found"---insert disk press any key. The disc is in the cd rom, I went into the BIOS enabled the CD/ROM boot option. I also went into the Boot option menu and tried selecting the internal cd/dvd rom drive option and I went into the actual boot order screen and adjusted the boot order so it read the cd-rom drive first then the hard drive. I also am using the HP Application and Driver recovery DVD. I am not sure if the disc is bad or cd drive is bad. The other thought is that because it is a brand new hard drive there is no information on it for the drivers so maybe the computer is not processing the information.
I am currently attempting to install windows 7 pro on my computer. I have successfully done so before but I wanted to clean up my hard drive so i decided to re install it. Now I only see Disk 1 Partition 1 and I can't install windows 7 on it. I get a message "Windows cannot be installed to Disk 1 Partition 1. (Show details)".
I booted from my Windows 7 DVD as per usual, went through the steps and now I'm at the "Where do you want to install Windows?"screen.I had four partitions on my last install - A: Software, C: System Files, D: Data, and M: Mac (formatted as exFAT).The problem that I'm experiencing, and which I've never run into before, is that Windows has "greyed out" the options for Deleting existing partitions and Creating New partitions on unallocated space.Did some research and ended up using Command Prompt to delete my old volumes/partitions that way. So now I have one big piece of unallocated space, but Windows still won't let me Create New partitions on it. When the unallocated space is selected with the mouse, Windows gives me the following error:"Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition contains one or more dynamic volumes that are not supported for installation."
