I have been using a USB2 external drive for months now. Today when I plugged in the cable(into the same port as I always use), Windows 7 popped a "Installing drivers" notification. Why would this happen? - nothing has changed on the system. And how can I check that all is OK, with the disk still performing as a USB2 device?

I upgraded my basic drive to dynamic drive ( got four partitions now) 2. My OS (win 7 home premium x64) is on one of the partiotion on the dynamic disk. QUESTIONS How do i convert back to basic... i only have my OS key no install cd? Can i take a back up or sys image that i can use later on after converting my hard disk to basic?

I installed xp on to an external hard drive via and esata connection. Now it won't boot without the external hard drive connected and of course will only boot in xp. The xp disc manager say that windows 7 is the primary os which confused me. I Tried the windows 7 recovery disc but it won't boot. I'm completely lost here, and I'm looking for the first step to take. AS it stands I have a C:RECOVERY, D:Fantom(my external to which i installed xp) and E: OS, why is E labeled OS? I could really use some help here.I can't uninstall xp in safe mode with administrator access. I'm wondering if i format the D drive containing Windows xp, if I will Automatically boot from my previous windows 7?

The small USB connector broke off the board yesterday and I purchased a new enclosure and installed it. Now my computer does not recognize it as a storage device. i installed windows 7 recently then after some while i did that "system rating" thing. right clicking on "computer" - "properties" - then there's "manufacturer" "model" then "rating" in the "system" section. while doing that power went off, because i didn't have the battery on and the charger got unplugged. i restarted the laptop and a message came up telling me that "operating system not found". so i decided to re-install windows 7. then after a while a message came up telling me that there is no hard disk installed. and press f3 to restart

I'm booting off the Win7 install disc and I get to the "Where do you want to install Windows?" step. The SSD is all unallocated space and I deleted the existing partitions on the WD. So I see:

However, it doesnt show up as a drive and in the Disk Management, it shows as Disk1 unknown. When I try to Initialize the disk, I get a error that the "The Media is write protected".
