Windows 7 X64 Randomly Stops Recognizing The Keyboard?
May 16, 2011My Windows 7 x64 when boots sometimes does not recognizes my USB keyboard. By unpluging the kb and plugin it back it starts working . Some other times the system just drops the kb -sound is given- unplug plug the kb and it works again.

Nov 10, 2009Since I'm running Windows 7 I thought I'd try to solve this on this forum, although the problem has plagued me all through vista as well but perhaps not nearly as much as it does now in 7.I have a Microsoft 4000 usb (wired) ergonomic "Natural" keyboard. I'll be on a forum typing up something (or in notepad, or anyplace I could possibly type) and all of a sudden the keyboard will stop responding to any key strokes. The only way to get it back to life is to logout and log back in, then the keyboard is working fine (unplugging it from the usb port works as well, although logging out and in is easier for me).When this happens, everything else on the computer is working perfectly fine, the mouse, display etc. It's just the keyboard that basically becomes totally inop. It doesn't matter what key I press they don't respond.
It's not a matter of an older keyboard that the wires might have broken or anything like that as this is a brand new keyboard. I've been using these MS 4000 keyboards for a few years now and have to replace them every year or less due to them wearing out from my fast and excessive typing but it doesn't matter, new or old, at some point, sometimes multiple times per day the keyboard stops responding on me.Any clues as to what might be causing this and more importantly how to prevent it from happening any further?
Computer Stops Recognizing 2nd Video Card When Xfire Enabled?
Jan 2, 2013I have an Asus X58 motherboard, a pair of ATI 5850 video cards, and a pair of monitors running DVI into the primary 5850 (extended desktop). When I am not running crossfire, my device manager sees 2 5850 cards as does the catalyst control center. I can select "enable crossfire" from the control center; however, when I did that my computer became unresponsive and I had to reboot. When I reboot the computer and click on the performance tab of the catalyst control center, the only option is "AMD Overdrive", the crossfire option is no longer there. The device manager only sees one card. The only way I can get my computer to recognize both cards again is to remove the Xfire cable from the 2 video cards.

Oct 2, 2011I have a Toshiba A300-18A laptop, bought in Portugal in 2008. It came pre-installed with Vista and I always left it in place because I couldn't find a proper time to backup everything properly. These holidays, I finally had the time to do that and 2 or 3 weeks ago I installed Win7. I didn't do an upgrade and did the custom install over the previous Vista version. Right after installation, during the first uses, my keyboard froze during an internet session. Simply, no key would work, but I had full control of the computer otherwise. Over the next days I found it happened quite frequently, and it didn't even need to be on internet. The most often place to freeze is in text editors (ConText, TexnicCenter), Excel (I'm using Office 2007), an online MMO and even the login screen, before I can actually access my computer. A restart usually solves the problem temporarily, sometimes I need two restarts in a row.Due to this, I did a reinstall of Win7, this time formatting the C: partition where I was making the installation. So this was a real clean install and I still had the same problems. I thought it would be drivers, so I installed some drivers I downloaded from Toshiba support center and THEN I found out about Toshiba's Win7 installation.Still the same problems. There are more curious things about the keyboard: it usually seems to think ctrl is pressed. I have opened the on-screen keyboard and noticed the ctrl-key depressed. Unpressing this key, thought, does not rehabilitate the keyboard. This ctrl-press must not always be on, thought, because sometimes I notice parallel behaviours and other times I don't. For example, I don't get 'save file' dialogs if I press 'S', but I do see the screen zooming in and out in a web browser if I roll my mouse-wheel. Also, I have some defects in Office (namely Excel) that I think may be related, and this since my first install: sometimes I'm going to Open Excel or Word and it says I have the ctrl key pressed and asks if I want to go through. More commonly I don't get this warning, but inside Excel, the usual shortcuts ctrl-c ctrl-v, ctrl-o (new book, portuguese version) offer me the insert/delete rows dialog. Sometimes ctrl-ins has this behaviour too, other times it works fine while ctrl-c does not. It's all very random.Finally, to complete the problems described in the subject. I've also noticed a behavious I NEVER had before installing Win7. Most often while playing the MMO (but not exclusively there) my screen goes white with some activity going up and down (sort of a mis-tuned TV from the analogical days) and I can only bring it to place changing windows to get my normal desktop. The MMO runs in dedicated full-screen mode and I guess it must be changing resolution. Also frequently (about 40% of the times), when I boot my computer it shows up the wrong resolution (1024x768) and, in the login screen, the little button on the bottom-right that allows one to shut down and restart shows up only these two options when ordinarily it shows 4 to 6 options. During normal use, I often get the video-going-white problem when I tilt the laptop display up and down.In 3 years I never had one single of the symptoms with Vista, now I get them everyday. Problem is that I quite enjoyed Win7 (and I don't like Vista) so I'd like to keep this OS if possible.

Jan 16, 2012i will be listening to Internet and playing a game (minecraft) while having a skype conversation. all is working fine, no cpu spikes, no high memory, then everything just stops.all audio is cut, all screens display what they had and nothing more (no update/movement), the mouse doesn't move and keyboard does not respond either.according to the hard drive activity light, there is no activity either.pressing the reset button on the case has no effect until pressed about four/five times in which then the computer will reset.system log has no relevant data on the complete stop, crash happened around 5:15pm and no log between 4:57:56pm - 5:26:36pm except for logons and logoffs.will be picking up canned air and removing all dust from the machine to rule out over heating.this is not really a constant issue, just keeps happening randomly, no really pattern.

Recently my PC is getting stuck for no reason. While browsing, watching a movie, when I leave it idle for a while its getting stuck. Screen is as it was and I cannot move the cursor, keyboard isn't working. Then I restart it manually and go to the option "start windows normally" or something. This happened previously and I thought it has smthin to do with my HDD, but I checked it n re installed win7 64bit. It was working normally for about 3 months and now it started again.
Audio Randomly Stops Working And Can't Get It Running Again?
Mar 18, 2011i decided to use a 32" plasma vizio tv for my monitor. connected it through hdmi to my nvidia 460 gtx graphics card. image was terrible, sound did not work for anything but video games (unless i ran the video game then turned on something else like music or a movie), the sound does not work causing whatever program being used to crash. so i said to myself, picture isn't great enough for the sound issue and i disconnected the tv and returned to my old monitor using a vga cable with dvi converter for the graphics card.since this terrible decision i've had a recurring issue with my sound not initializing when trying to play music, movies, or games. also, after the computer is on for some time, all audio crashes completely, and nothing can be done but a restart to get it working... kind of.
1) my system starts up and all system sounds work great! then i try to play music on windows media player... it loads a song continuously but never plays... so i turn it off and the window closes but the process remains open in task manager forcing me to end its process. to get sound to work again i have to go to Internet.com and play a video (which sometimes fails because of the same issue).2) wmp aside, another issue is games not starting up because of sound failure. for instance, counter-strike source will load, reach the splash screen of the main menu and will crash... the splash will remain visible with a loading sign on the bottom right corner. alt-tabbing doesn't work, hitting the windows button doesn't work... have to end-process . and again i have to go to Internet and run a video to get my sound working again.
3) third and most irritating and unique issue is with netflix and silverlight. when i try to stream a movie on netflix, silverlight loads all parameters until actually playing the movie, where it freezes because again the sound doesn't initialize. i've found an odd work-around to this issue however. that is to play a Internet video and then play a netflix stream movie, in which case it works fine and i can close Internet and continue watching the movie. this method also sometimes works with wmp and video games also.4) the core issue is this. after some time, my audio completely goes away. nothing brings it back; no Internet work-around or launching a game. when this happens, even windows sounds are completely dead. trying to raise or lower volume through volume control in the taskbar causes the volume control to freeze on screen, forcing me to end task the sndvol.exe process to get rid of it.
basically i think the problem lies in my video cards audio drivers interfering with windows audio drivers. now to remedy the situation i went to device manager and disabled all nvidia high definition audio drivers... this didn't help. i also resorted to uninstalling my sound card and removing the card itself from my system, which also did nothing. i am completely at my wits end. can't think of anything else to do, but postspecs:nvidia nforce 680i sli motherboardintel core 2 duo processor at 2.4ghz4ghz of corsair xms 2 ram ddr2 1088 mhz (i think)nvidia geforce gtx460 sc 1024mb750 watt powercreative labs x-fi fatality series gaming sound card (removed this)i now use the logitech g35 usb headset (good enough)running windows 7 ultimate
Mouse Randomly Stops Working/responding?
Mar 9, 2011This error recently started occurring where the mouse will not allow me to close out of windows, or click inside of them. Generally this starts occurring when I start playing World of Warcraft but it's not limited to this only. It's happened when I wasn't playing, or when I am just chatting on Skype, or even not at the computer. It's not a virus, or anything malicious, as I'm pretty competent with that sort of thing, but I cannot figure this issue out.I've also checked the sleep and power options, both are fine.It just stops working for 5-60 seconds and I have to ctrl+alt+delete to fix the issue momentarily. My computer is a Windows7 X64-bit OS, Asus Notebook G60 Series. The mouse is a Razer DeathAdder 3500DPI.
EDIT: The touch pad also will not work during this "phase" of unresponsiveness from the mouse. When I say it will not work, I mean that it will not click as well, but it will move responsively, as the mouse will.

The only solution is to restart the computer.Windows Support says for me to call Toshiba, and Toshiba Support blames it on Windows. It seems obvious (even though nothing is obvious with computers) that the keyboard is in working order - since I can type 99 percent of the time - the glitch has to be with Windows.

Sep 17, 2012For the past couple of days my keyboard starts to go crazy after about 2 hours worth of use. It will not let me type. And, if I hit a letter it will do something else that it shouldn't. For instance, if I hit the "letter" key it opens the file/save as.
I read a very old post here and tried to do what that said. I changed my batteries, cleaned the keyboard, and even used a different keyboard that isn't wireless. The very same thing happens no matter which keyboard I use.
Sometimes if I wait a few minutes and reboot it is fine again (like right now). This just started happening.
Notebook Keyboard Stops Working Sometimes?
Mar 16, 2010in past I did have this problem with Windows 7, and now that I came back (was on XP Sp3), they annoying me again.I have a DELL Vostro 1510. Sometimes, after I turn on the computer and it loads my desktop, the keyboard doesn't work. The weird thing is that the media keys are working fine all the time, however all the letters, caps lock, num lock, F1-F12... well, every single key simply doesn't respond.So I go and check it on the "device manager", and it shows I have a keyboard installed. I scan for hardware changes... and no changes detected... The driver is there, the hardware is perfect (I never had these issues while on XP, and I was with 7 on past, did have these problems, then did migrate to XP, and now back to 7 and having it again).
I know how to solve it... I simply need to go to the device manager, click on uninstall and then "scan hardware for changes" and it comes back to life. If that doesn't work, just need to reboot and Windows 7 install the driver for me (after uninstalling it, of course).The annoying thing is that I don't want to do those steps... I want it to keep always working... And this is just not normal, so for sure there is some cause.DELL doesn't offer drivers for notebook keyboard on their website, at least not for my model, because it's simply a default one... So the default driver should handle it.

When it does the only way I have found to get out of it is to manually plug it out and restartOn freeze the keyboard and mouse become entirely unresponsive, the cursor does not move, nor do either click buttons do anything, if I'm typing somewhere the text does not appear, and Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't bring up the usual screenI'm running windows 7 home premium on a 64 bit machine. This mostly happens on start up and once desktop loads up either my USB mouse freezes or my keyboard doesn't work or sometimes BOTH. My keyboard is a PS/2 Keyboard. It seems the only solution when both freeze at the same time is to either restart the computer or unplug them and plug them back in. This morning when I booted it up my mouse immediately was frozen and I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it is working. This error is very random and sometimes doesn't happen immediately on start up but while browsing the Internet a decent amount of time after start up. Another important thing I forgot to mention is I get NO blue screen or no error message it just stops working.

Nov 22, 2011Every so often I get this problem where my keyboard/mouse functions change.
-With the keyboard it's usually a SHIFT lock (not CAPS lock), that is every button that I hit expresses a character or function like as if I was holding down SHIFT.
-With the mouse there are several problems. Left clicking "sticks", so any field where you can select text or draw a selection box will have that happen when I move the mouse around after clicking somewhere in the field. Left clicking any link or bookmark causes it to open in a new page to be loaded. The scroll wheel function changes to forward and back, rather than scrolling up and down. The right mouse button does it's own tricks, but I can't remember it exactly.
This has happened with two different sets of keyboards/mice operating with different drivers. The only solution is to restart, unplugging doesn't solve the trick. I cannot recall exactly what I may have installed around the time the problem showed up unfortunately.
Keyboard/Mouse Randomly Stop Responding (PS/2)
Apr 21, 2012Recently I have been having this problem where my PS/2 keyboard and mouse both stop responding. The lights are still on, but neither work. Sometimes it happens just to my mouse, and not the keyboard, but usually both. When it happens, they are not responding for anywhere from a few seconds, to a few minutes (but by that point I restart the computer). If it happens just to the mouse, putting the computer to sleep using the keyboard and wakening it again fixes the problem.
I have tried to update the drivers in device manager by letting windows search for them online, but it says they are up-to-date. I also checked all the connections inside the computer, unplugging and re-plugging each one as well as air-dusting.
EDIT: If I can't find a fix, I think I will just purchase a USB mouse and keyboard, but I'd rather try fix the problem first.

Jun 13, 2012As of lately my mouse and keyboard sometimes just stop working. It seems to happen more often while I'm playing games (but that's mostly what I do so not sure if that has anything to do with it ). Usually before it happens I'll hear the usb sound and the mouse will disconnect and reconnect and it'll work fine then just out of the blue it'll disconnect and that's that. I have to shutdown and restart. It only just started doing this a couple weeks ago. My mouse is a logitech UAE-96 (I think) and the keyboard is a microsoft ergonomic 4000, its an ASUS MoBo, I've checked keyboard drivers and they are up to date and I've also checked my usb drivers, also up to date.

Jan 12, 2012i am currently unable to work on assignments on my own computer or enjoy games because it freezes completely sporadically requiring a hard boot. essentially the computer freezes on me and the keyboard becomes disabled and unresponsive. the mouse cursor on the screen slows down, like the sensitivity was turned down 95%, and moves sluggishly, and then i know the freeze is coming. the computer desktop freezes completely, the keyboard becomes disabled and sometimes the screen turns a faint transparent white depending on what application i am running. the cursor then turns into an animated hour glass that i can move around the screen totally normally, with no lag, but everything is unresponsive. i then need to do a hard boot and end up frusturated, tempted to through my computer at the wall.i've scanned the computer with at least 10 different reputable antivirus programs and i have repaired all the registry errors. i've uninstalled programs i no longer need and searched all over solutions, to no avail. [code] i looked at event viewer to try to see a log of the issue but the only error it reported was id 41, from the hard boot. when i'm on Internet and it locks up permanently, the Internet video continues to play.also the freezing is totally random and sometimes i can go for 5h without it happening, other times it freezes up within 10 minutes. usually it freezes up between 10-30 mins of system starting up.

I cannot backspace quick enough at times to keep it from appearing. Also...I keep hearing the annoying "default beep" (windows ding). What are the chances that both keyboards I've used are faulty?? Probably not. If I have a virus or malware...any and all removal tools are just not picking up on it.

Jan 29, 2013I'm running Outlook 2010 with about 5 separate POP 3 accounts. I archive regularly and compact after archiving. After a lot of trouble cloning a new C drive to an SSD, Outlook, along with a lot of other software, began acting strangely. Everything has pretty much been resolved except for the Outlook problem.
For no reason I can isolate, Outlook will suddenly close, giving the message that it had to close and it will now try to retrieve my data. It does so, unless I was in the middle of composing an email - that will be gone! Sometimes, instead of closing, it freezes and says application not responding.
I checked the disk for errors using scan now and it's fine. I've run memtest and it's fine. I've run in safe mode and it just shut down with no comments. In working my way through suggestions on this board, I just ran Sysinternals Process Explorer until the error occurred and went back to normal. In looking at Process Explorer, I'm afraid the actual data is overwhelming to me. However, I'll attach everything I have.
