Audio Randomly Stops Working And Can't Get It Running Again?
Mar 18, 2011
i decided to use a 32" plasma vizio tv for my monitor. connected it through hdmi to my nvidia 460 gtx graphics card. image was terrible, sound did not work for anything but video games (unless i ran the video game then turned on something else like music or a movie), the sound does not work causing whatever program being used to crash. so i said to myself, picture isn't great enough for the sound issue and i disconnected the tv and returned to my old monitor using a vga cable with dvi converter for the graphics card.since this terrible decision i've had a recurring issue with my sound not initializing when trying to play music, movies, or games. also, after the computer is on for some time, all audio crashes completely, and nothing can be done but a restart to get it working... kind of.
1) my system starts up and all system sounds work great! then i try to play music on windows media player... it loads a song continuously but never plays... so i turn it off and the window closes but the process remains open in task manager forcing me to end its process. to get sound to work again i have to go to Internet.com and play a video (which sometimes fails because of the same issue).2) wmp aside, another issue is games not starting up because of sound failure. for instance, counter-strike source will load, reach the splash screen of the main menu and will crash... the splash will remain visible with a loading sign on the bottom right corner. alt-tabbing doesn't work, hitting the windows button doesn't work... have to end-process . and again i have to go to Internet and run a video to get my sound working again.
3) third and most irritating and unique issue is with netflix and silverlight. when i try to stream a movie on netflix, silverlight loads all parameters until actually playing the movie, where it freezes because again the sound doesn't initialize. i've found an odd work-around to this issue however. that is to play a Internet video and then play a netflix stream movie, in which case it works fine and i can close Internet and continue watching the movie. this method also sometimes works with wmp and video games also.4) the core issue is this. after some time, my audio completely goes away. nothing brings it back; no Internet work-around or launching a game. when this happens, even windows sounds are completely dead. trying to raise or lower volume through volume control in the taskbar causes the volume control to freeze on screen, forcing me to end task the sndvol.exe process to get rid of it.
basically i think the problem lies in my video cards audio drivers interfering with windows audio drivers. now to remedy the situation i went to device manager and disabled all nvidia high definition audio drivers... this didn't help. i also resorted to uninstalling my sound card and removing the card itself from my system, which also did nothing. i am completely at my wits end. can't think of anything else to do, but postspecs:nvidia nforce 680i sli motherboardintel core 2 duo processor at 2.4ghz4ghz of corsair xms 2 ram ddr2 1088 mhz (i think)nvidia geforce gtx460 sc 1024mb750 watt powercreative labs x-fi fatality series gaming sound card (removed this)i now use the logitech g35 usb headset (good enough)running windows 7 ultimate
This error recently started occurring where the mouse will not allow me to close out of windows, or click inside of them. Generally this starts occurring when I start playing World of Warcraft but it's not limited to this only. It's happened when I wasn't playing, or when I am just chatting on Skype, or even not at the computer. It's not a virus, or anything malicious, as I'm pretty competent with that sort of thing, but I cannot figure this issue out.I've also checked the sleep and power options, both are fine.It just stops working for 5-60 seconds and I have to ctrl+alt+delete to fix the issue momentarily. My computer is a Windows7 X64-bit OS, Asus Notebook G60 Series. The mouse is a Razer DeathAdder 3500DPI.
EDIT: The touch pad also will not work during this "phase" of unresponsiveness from the mouse. When I say it will not work, I mean that it will not click as well, but it will move responsively, as the mouse will.
I buy another headset and its the same problem and when i plug the usb headset in the audio stops working. I know nothing wrong with the headset because i heal popping noises through the headset when i restart the computer with them on. Here is more Info from the last post i did and got no answers from.My New USB Headset is not working
I have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 and there seems to be a problem with my computer's sound recording system.I want to record music off of the Internet,I have Replay Music, recently the program was working, now it decides to quit.I have the Replay Music software program set at Audio Driver,I tried to uninstall and then re-install it,but, nothing wants to work.
I have got Lenovo G550 laptop with windows 7 installed in it, and i have BSNL Datacard 3G (3.6 Mbps). When I connect my data card to my laptop the audio driver stops working whereas in case I connect any other usb device the driver doesnt stop working.
i will be listening to Internet and playing a game (minecraft) while having a skype conversation. all is working fine, no cpu spikes, no high memory, then everything just stops.all audio is cut, all screens display what they had and nothing more (no update/movement), the mouse doesn't move and keyboard does not respond either.according to the hard drive activity light, there is no activity either.pressing the reset button on the case has no effect until pressed about four/five times in which then the computer will reset.system log has no relevant data on the complete stop, crash happened around 5:15pm and no log between 4:57:56pm - 5:26:36pm except for logons and logoffs.will be picking up canned air and removing all dust from the machine to rule out over heating.this is not really a constant issue, just keeps happening randomly, no really pattern.
Since I'm running Windows 7 I thought I'd try to solve this on this forum, although the problem has plagued me all through vista as well but perhaps not nearly as much as it does now in 7.I have a Microsoft 4000 usb (wired) ergonomic "Natural" keyboard. I'll be on a forum typing up something (or in notepad, or anyplace I could possibly type) and all of a sudden the keyboard will stop responding to any key strokes. The only way to get it back to life is to logout and log back in, then the keyboard is working fine (unplugging it from the usb port works as well, although logging out and in is easier for me). When this happens, everything else on the computer is working perfectly fine, the mouse, display etc. It's just the keyboard that basically becomes totally inop. It doesn't matter what key I press they don't respond.
It's not a matter of an older keyboard that the wires might have broken or anything like that as this is a brand new keyboard. I've been using these MS 4000 keyboards for a few years now and have to replace them every year or less due to them wearing out from my fast and excessive typing but it doesn't matter, new or old, at some point, sometimes multiple times per day the keyboard stops responding on me.Any clues as to what might be causing this and more importantly how to prevent it from happening any further?
My Windows 7 x64 when boots sometimes does not recognizes my USB keyboard. By unpluging the kb and plugin it back it starts working . Some other times the system just drops the kb -sound is given- unplug plug the kb and it works again.
I have been running windows 7 for about a year and it has been running fine up until a few days ago when all programmes seem to jam up and my only option is to turn the power off to reset it, I can open excel and word but can't print, email or send anything to disc, I can't even open photoshop, I have bulldog for antivirus but it won't do a scan, I have tried to Restore to an earlier date about a week ago but it isn't able to complete the task, if I try to start in safe mode, it gets as far as a pnp file then jams up.
The computer will stop responding, the cursor shows the busy blue ring (spinning, not frozen), and I can still move the blue ring around, but unable to click on anything. CTRL+ALT+DEL doesn't work, nothing works. Tried leaving it overnight but it didn't solve the problem. I had to force shut down by holding the Power button. This problem happens at random times, while using random applications, online or not, sometimes within a few minutes after turning on the computer, sometimes hours, but it happens almost every time. I have also tried turning on the computer and left it without using anything, and the same problem will happen.
over ther past couple of weeks i have been having a problem with IE when some web pages would not open. after refreshing the pages, they would eventually come up. a problem i could live with. i was also having a problem with my thumb drives. it seems i was able to open them on my laptop, but when i went to another computer, they would not open some of the files on them. on another desktop, as soon as i plugged int the thumb drive, it showed there was a virus on them. so i threw the thumb drives out. i installed a new thumb drive, and decided to do a Norton scan, and also a MSE scan on the thumb drive. the Norton showed W32.silyFDC, and the MSE came back with 4 trojons(i should have writen them down). i cleared up the virus on both. when i started my compter this moring and opened up IE, Norton webpage opened(yahoo is my default) and said that my default homepage was ereased. i now also notice on my desktop 2 icons of "desktop.ini". also when i run malwarebytes after about 4 mins or so, it freezes up "not responding" and i have to close it out.i did a full norton run on my computer this morning and it came back clean. but i suspect that there is something still going on that MBAM stops running after 4 mins.
playing battlefield 3 i've experienced both bsod and the program to stop running. when the bsod occurs the screen blacks out then the video comes back but the image is made out of a bunch of lines like the video split up and moved around. then the bluescreen comes up. (not sure how else to explain how it looks). theres also a deep beap sound that plays sometimes as well.
i've also experienced an issue with other games, most recently europa universalis 3 where the game stops running as well. sometimes the game runs fine without crash and i've played for 3 - 4 hours on two different occasions but the play after only lasts a few minutes. my drivers are all up to date so i don't think they are the issue.just now i ran a program through the action center that i guess looked for solutions to problems and every problem that showed up is a "video hardware error"

i read somewhere that audio drivers could cause issues. i have high definition audio as well as the realtek audio driver.i don't know if i should upload those files that the problem report reported so don't know. i've also been formatting videos for Internet and running my cpu at 85% so i don't think its the cpu overheating like i've heard can happen.
After pressing "send/receive" pretty often my Outlook 2010 stops responding, blue ring is spinning and if I click anyplace I'm getting "fog" over screen. When I want to close program, Outlook offers to find fix or restart or shut off, if I choose fix it is searching and after while is restarting program. I have talked to Microsoft techs, they checked, everything was fine, and suggested to restart Outlook if it will happen again. I do not think this is the way how Outlook 2010 should work.
i own a dell precision 360. i recently upgraded to windows 7 and i noticed that my Internet videos are streaming with good audio but not good video. meaning that the audio goes on without stopping while the video is having some hiccups.
I have a standard 3.5mm output jack on the back of my motherboard, whenever I change the jack, e.g. take speakers out, plug headphones in, the sound stops, usually when i'm using itunes, or bbc iplayer. Sometimes this can crash microsoft messenger as well.I have to restart the application for the sound to work again.
I've been having problems with my computer. The monitor screen will randomly go black (a small grey window appears in the top-right corner as it tries switching between Analog mode and Digital mode, but the rest of the screen is completely black) and the sound from my speakers will completely cut out. When it happens, the computer won't respond to any keyboard or mouse commands, so I have no choice but to manually hold down the power button to shut it off, wait a few minutes, and restart it.
It seems to happen randomly, regardless of what I'm doing. Sometimes it happens after an hour, while I'm in the middle of playing a game or browsing the internet, sometimes it happens within 5 minutes of turning on the PC, while the system is idle. It started a month ago, and the attacks have occurred more frequently as time goes on. Now, it seems to happen within twenty minutes of start up, whereas before I could go an entire day without it happening.
My specifications are as follows: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz) Motherboard: ASUS M4A88T-M Graphics Card: ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6850 (EAH6850 DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2) Hard Drive: Western Digital Green 3 TB (WD30EZRX) RAM: Kingston 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (KHX1600C9D3P1K2/8G) Power Supply: Antec 520W Neo Eco 520C
I also have a wireless network card, and a CD/DVD drive, but I don't know their details. If it's important and anyone requests, I can find out. All the components were bought new in February 2011, except for the hard drive and the RAM. Those are brand new, bought two days ago. (I purchased them to stop some Blue Screens of Death that also started occurring a month ago, caused by "faulty memory/hardware failure". The BSODs have stopped since I replaced the hard drive and the RAM, but the random video/audio loss hasn't stopped.)
I could be on my computer for hours at a time and after approximately 6 hours of being logged in, my internet browser just stops working. When I try going to a web page, it doesn't even try to load. It gives a very quick blink to the icon on the tab but that's it. I'm not receiving any windows errors. The way that I've been working around this problem has been to log off(or shut it down) then log back on, then I have a few more hours before it does it again. When the browser stops working, "bittorrent" still runs (a program that needs internet access). This isn't a recent problem that I'm having. This has been going on for almost a year now.I'm running Windows7.
I have Windows 7. I am using IE 8. My browser will stop working. I do a restart and it will work good for awhile. Then I have do do the same thing about every 5 Min.
I just bought a brand new Dell Optiplex 390 running windows 7 64bit.I plugged in an external USB hub with 3 devices attached (2 cameras and 1 stepper motor controller). At first the computer recognized the three devices and I can communicate with them just fine. After a few minutes, they stop working and the generic USB hub gets this error: This device cannot start. (Code 10)I tried uninstalling the device, I tried updating the drivers (sais drivers are current), nothing works. This hub works fine on windows XP.
I've got winsows 7 x 64, and I am trying to install MSI drivers to my motherboard, but even if I download from their home page, and it is compatible with windows 7 I'll got the message that setup.exe stops working. What should I do? I feel that my PC is slower because it needs these drivers I suppose. And there are 2 unknow devices in the Device Manager
I just bought my laptop, a new toshiba satellite with windows 7 and 64 bit, i tried to install assasins creed 3, but gave me error about "feature transfer error component sound_sfx filedata2.cab error data error (cyclic redundancy check)", i thought it was a game error, but then i realized my dvd reader stops working, i tried to copy the files from the dvd and it stoped working after a while also (it happened with abother DVD too when tried to copy the file to my computer). So i was wondering what can i do
I receive this blue screen randomly while running the computer, it instantly crashes, dumps, and reboots.I am running this PC on a local network, and I am the primary network administrator.I have tested my memory with Memtest86, and all 4 sticks passed individually. [code]
Throughout the past week my computer has been sporadically freezing and buzzing, forcing me to restart when it happens. At random intervals it will freeze and proceed to make a buzzing noise that emits from my speakers. It never crashes to blue screen, I ultimately have to force a restart.
I've made sure that everything is properly connected and that the computer is clean. I'm not really sure what the problem is.
So this has been happening ever since I got my computer. I took it in to see if a service could take a look at it and they ran a benchmark to get the usage to 100% for like 22 hours. Computer was still running fine he recommended me to get a UPS because it could be browning out but that solved nothing.
So what basically happens is that once a week or 3 times a day, it happens randomly, could be while playing a game or just browsing the web. What happens is that the monitor just freezes it is still on it is like a screenshot of my screen it stays still, cursor stops, audio stops, everything. The computer is still running fine it could be a failure in hardware but most likely not. It is not the monitor itself because it worked fine with the same monitor with my previous computer and I just got a new monitor last week.
I also noticed is if it happens once then it'll happen a few more times in a day then it'll stop for 1-2 days and start again, could just be a coincidence but I don't know...
whenever i open internet explorer 64 bit, a message immediately pops up saying something to the effect of "internet explorer has stopped working. windows is looking for a solution .. blah blah blah" whether i wait for it to tell me to close ie or immediately try to close the message, it just pops up over and over again, making the only way to actually quit ie to go into task manager and end the process (i'm not sure if this is relevant, but when i do that, there are two "iexplore" processes, and only ending the second one (when they're in alphabetical order) actually turns off ie). the program launched from the menu item "internet explorer", which i assume is 32 bit ie, works just fine, as does the no add-ons mode. i have also seen several people asking questions about ie 9 64 bit stopping working on Internet and related sites because of issues with 64 bit flash or the lack thereof. this is not that problem - it freezes immediately upon the start of the program. also, i have just upgraded to service pack 1, but the problem existed before that (i was actually hoping sp1 might fix it, but no luck). i have also uninstalled updates to ie and then re updated to 9, but that didn't help either. (also it is really annoying that that's the closest you're allowed to get to uninstalling ie completely. i would feel much better if i could just exorcise the whole thing and start fresh, but no dice).
unrelated problem: i cannot get the below text about languages to go away. i didn't put it in myself, it appeared when i clicked "preview post". i've deleted it from the text box several times now, but it always reappears when i click preview post.afrikaansalbanianarabicarmenianazerbaijanibasquebelarusianbulgariancatalanchinese (simplified)chinese (traditional)croatianczechdanishdetect languagedutchenglishestonianfilipinofinnishfrenchgaliciangeorgiangermangreekhaitian
It used to happen occasionally. Lately IE8 stops working several times a day. I see no rhyme or reason as to why. No changes to the program or computer AFAIK. I'd rather not install IE9.
I have windows7 installed on my laptop and any time i log off my system or just keep it idle for sometime it logs off and the keybaord starts behaving differently.Like when i press the j key it reads it as 1when i press f it reads it 4 and so on.
