Windows 7 Resume Loader Frozen?
Oct 24, 2009
Everytime my PC loads it gets stuck on the Windows Resume Loader page. It's gives me two options to select, "continue with system resume" or "delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu". Problem is there is no keyboard response so I can't select either option. The keyboard is working fine as I can acess the boot menu and other options.

I have done some looking around and have found lots of mentions of the same issue but people tend to skip through some of the in between key steps as they are working on their own computers and not trying to do this blind.
I had no idea at first what she'd done but apparently this is a common problem. Basically, if a netbook's battery goes dead while it is hibernating then it creates a problem when the user reboots. The machine gets to the windows resume loader page and then freezes there. It offers you a choice but the keyboard is unresponsive. I got her to force quit and restart but same thing.
I found that many were able to use a PS2 keyboard to work around this but my mom does not have one. She doesn't have a start up disc or anything like that.
I found this solution elsewhere but as you see, the guy skips the key steps: Hopefully your computer gives you the opportunity to visit you bios settings/ peripherals. You can usually access this at the very beginning of startup by following the prompts such as "F1, F9, DEL, TAB, "....etc. I am pretty sure that each Motherboard has a different setup. Once I found My way to the peripherals I was able to scroll down to "USB keyboard" and saw that it was disabled. I enabled it, saved those settings and continued on to the "RESUME LOADER" page that had not been responsive before and Ta-Da!!!! it worked.
So, I need the easiest, most explainable steps to follow so I can walk my mom through them. It is the f8 key you press upon startup to get to get to safemode? Or does this guy mean to actually press F1 then F9 and so on?
manually enable the keyboard on her netbook and get past this.

Desktop was sleeping. Woke up this morning to windows resume loader. No time out on this menu for some extremely idiotic reason. USB keyboard has no power. Tried with a USB to PS/2 adapter and still no power. Tried another keyboard, didn't work neither. There's power on my USB rails for sure as I have tried plugging in headphones and they work. Can't even get into BIOS because keyboard just doesn't work. Currently resetting my BIOS.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 64-bit on a HP 620 (just a year old).
Lately, whenever I return to the laptop having left it alone for some time (Power Management set to 'Sleep' after 10 mins), and try to resume, I can hear the it resuming (fans etc.), however, the screen remains completely black.
The only solution is to shut down the system manually and boot it up again.

I have an HP pavilion dv4-1555dx laptop that I was trying to install Linux mint 10 gnome on a PNY 8GB flash drive, I forgot to have Linux install grub to the flash drive, so it ended up installing grub to the HDD, now I need to reinstall the windows 7 boot loader but HP didn't send a windows 7 boot disk with the system (OEM windows 7) so I can't jut boot the cd and use the recovery counsel unless there is somewhere online that I can get an iso from, or is there another way?

I have a laptop which until yesterday was dual boot (Windows 7 and SLES11). However I decided I would rather just use Windows with VMWare for any Linux needs. To do this I deleted the Linux partitions (OS, workspace, swap) from within Windows and used this extra space to add to my workspace partition on Windows and create a new partition for my VM's to sit.I got all this working very nicely and was happy with it until I rebooted to machine to see GRUB was still set to be the boot loader which is unable to do anything with no Linux partitions. What I do have is the Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD that came with the laptop however the DVD drive of my laptop is broken. I am currently writing this with a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion) and so the only solution I can think of is using media oN DVD, and burning this to a bootable USB using the Mac and then setting up BIOS on the 'broken' laptop to boot from DVD. However I am not sure how to create a 'bootable' USB.
1) Can I use my Windows 7 reinstallation disc to recover Windows boot manager
2) If so can I do this via USB?
3) How could I make my USB 'bootable' using my Macbook Pro
4) What are the steps for recovering boot manager from the installation media
5) What is the more elegant way to 'delete' Linux partitions and ensure Windows Boot Manager works (I may also run into this problem with a workstation I set up in same way yesterday but have yet to reboot0

I have a PC with 2 hard drives- the first hard drive has a single partition and windows 7 64-bit is installed on this hard disk. Now I wish to install CentOS 6 on the first partition of the second hard disk.I have created the dvd for installing Cent OS also. How do I configure the boot loader in Windows? If I install Linux on second hard disk, will this overwrite the Windows Boot Loader? How do I create a dual boot system so that the windows boot loader correctly shows linux as an option, so that I am able to load either Windows 7 (existing) or Linux(on second hard disk- not yet installed)

I just got a new desktop computer, and I downloaded windows 7 64 bit home premium. when the download completed and it restarted a screen popped up asking for country/date/time, and now the computer is frozen. Is it okay to restart right now? They said not to restart during the setup process at the very beginning, but i don't know what to do, it's been like this for 15minutes. And i believe all the setup is done, once it restarted it just went straight to asking me about the time.
oh, and also i used custom installation becauuse the express one wouldn't work, saying i couldn't switch from 32 bit to 64 bit. dunno if this is relevant, but just thought i'd say.

My computer wont resume with windows resume loader. Anytime i start the computer from a shutdown or hibernation/sleep it gives me the option of continue with system resume or delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu. If i click continue with resume it gives a black screen with this "_" in the upper left corner and never loads. It doesn't let me go back to what i was doing upon using hibernate, sleep, or anything that would save what i was doing.

my internet recently stopped working and my computer was freezing alot so a friend suggested to me it might be a virus therefore I should use system restore. I chose the restore date from about 5 days ago which was before 5 'critical updates' were installed. the computer has now been restoring for around 8 hours showing only the message " please wait while your windows files and settings are being restored. system restore is initialising..." I'm fighting the urge to turn it off and reboot

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and attempted to do a system restore. I set the restore back a few weeks ago and then it began more than two hours ago. The screen says "Please wait while your windows files and settings are being restored. System restore is restoring the registry...". I know that I probably should not attempt to reboot, but how should I handle this?

I have been using win 7 for a couple years with the same wireless mouse/keyboard combo (microsoft ntellimouse explorer 2.0). The other day the pointer mouse pointer froze in the middle of the screen. I have rebooted several times, tried a wired usb mouse (it works on other computers with win7), tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and nothing has worked. The pointer is still frozen in the middle of the screen. I'd like some suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

I tried hitting the on off button. Says windows is resuming but nothing happens and screen goes black. Hear fans come on. Last night I had recovered a Word Document Office 2010 and not saved it. Son logged off and recovery file was created last night. Was able to get on this morning and recoved the document, but never saved or named it. I may have closed the laptop lid. Not sure if that makes laptop go into sleep mode or hybernate.F2 setup and F12 reboot are available options when the Resuming window come up. Then that disappears and screen is blank. Makes sounds like it will come up but it doesn't.Saw an earlier post that said: If its trying to resume then it should give you an option to either
1) Continue w/ system resume, or
2) Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot
Try option 2.If you are not given this choice, restart the computer manually and start hitting F8 about once a second until you get to a selection screen. Choose to start windows normally and let us know how it goes.I tried hitting F8 and nothing happens. Then I saw another post that said to hit F12 and run the diagnostics... that is what I am doing now. It is in the prediagnostics now and said the next test is 30 minutes. All tests were passed and it is doing memory checks. Other post said it ran all night.Do you need to go through all the diagnostics to be able to use F8?Or will I need to turn the computer off and on again and see the resuming screen and then hit F8?

So here's the thing, my computer was running completely fine albeit kind of slow until about 2 weeks ago. Everytime I log on it will go through the motions of loading and BAM! freeze, I can't do ANYTHING. . .I have run virus scan and spyware scans because it also displayed an error message before windows would even load. . .it doesn't do that now though. Norton found a Trojan Virus which as far as I know I have gotten rid of through various anti-virus maneuvers. I have also tried Norton's Bootable Recovery and that found nothing as far as a virus or anything.I booted the computer up into Safe Mode with Networking and it's working pretty much like the regular mode should except obviously it's limited and I can't get to my OneNote that I need.

I have an Advent T9102 and Advent T9308, due to the Advent T9102 being really old and having a few problems and consistently crashing, I decided to take the Hard Drive out of it and make use of it in my Advent T9308 and reformat the whole machine and install Windows 7. Due to my Advent T9308 being Windows XP I first upgraded it to Windows Vista to get all the necessary Windows 7 drivers. Everything worked great once upgraded to Windows Vista. I then used my USB stick to install Windows 7.
When I restarted the Advent T9308 I booted the USB stick and it started loading the Windows files, I deleted all the partitions on the hard drives and reformatted the drives. The installation screen came up and I followed the screen prompts. When it got to the installing Windows part it shot the percentage straight up for the "Copying Windows files" which was odd, but then the "Expanding Windows files" it froze at 1%, I knew it froze because I left it for 30mins and it didn't go up a percentage. I decided to hold the power button for 5 seconds and restart the machine.
On restart the machine got stuck on the very first Advent screen, it currently has "Press DEL to run Setup, Press TAB to display BIOS POST Message", but it doesn't matter what button I press on the keyboard nothing loads up? Obviously no Windows will load up as I deleted the Windows partitions. I am just trying to get the machine to boot up the USB, or, CD so I can install Windows 7, but the machine wont get past the first screen, just before the post bios screen. The machine fans are spinning, the motherboard light is on, no beeps at start up, if you just listened to it it sounds like everything is ok, but its not getting past the Advent first screen?
