Windows 7 OEM Continues To Freeze On New Build
Oct 24, 2012
I have just installed windows 7 OEM on my new computer build and was already having problems doing that, but now that I have it installed, it consistently freezes during boot-up or within seconds of logging in. I don't get a blue screen or anything, I just freeze and have to restart. I have tried disabling all of the start up programs and trying it, but that didn't seem to work. The only way I have been able to use my computer is in safe mode. The only drivers I have installed are my chipset and graphics as they were the only ones I could install without windows freezing during the installation.

Just built a brand spanking new rig (specs below), and I installed windows 7 onto my SSD (No Problem!) and proceeded to install drivers, format my extra drive and start installing other software and etc. Then randomly I would get a blue screen telling me some sort of data dump message and the system would reboot normally. This persisted and I booted in safe mode a few times no problem. This morning I tried to boot and Windows 7 froze on the "starting Windows" screen, no colored orbs here. Since then I have attempted to reinstall windows onto my SSD(same freezing issue even after waiting over 40 min.), install windows on my hdd(same issue) and boot without various components(video card, cd drive etc) to no avail. I also flashed the latest BIOS via USB and have attempted boots w/o usb, intel smart connect and rapid start, and other possible solutions.

I just made a clean install of windows 7 build 7077 and it worked perfectly for 1 or 2 day but recently whenever I open opera or chrome or ie the taskbar and pretty much every thing but the navigator freeze until I close the navigator or after 5-10 min.
I have not found any error report relevant, nor process going crazy in term of cpu, memory, disk or network utilization. I have tried deactivating firewall, antieverything, windows firewall and defender, xfire, msn, aero.
Weirdly µtorrent, newsbin pro, msn, vnc doesn't freeze everything. I suspect the issue as started after running ccleaner but I don't know how to undo what it did. I have found hundred of people having about the same problem on XP but none of there solution worked for me.

When upgrading from 7048 to 7077 the installer freezes on the last step (copying files and settings) at 35% every time I've tried it. It suggested removing ATI Catalyst Install Manager and Control Panel, which I did, but it still hangs (although this time at 47%). I have tried several different configurations (with/without CCC and Install Manager, do/don't go online for updates, etc). Every time I have to force restart the computer and it will begin to restore the previous version.

Built a new machine at the weekend.
Specs:
Intel i5 2500k 3.30ghz
8gb ram
Win 7 home premium 64 bit
gfx card
Amd Radeon HD7700
Running the game off an SSD, not that that particularly should cause this problem, I imagine.
Game plays fine mostly, but three times now the game has frozen. On two occasions it froze in spot, sound still going, the screen went black, then redrew and played fine. One occasion it just stuck solid and I had to hard reset.I'm pretty sure all the main drivers are up to date, I sorted that out after the build. I thought maybe there was an issue last time as there were some surprise Windows updates after the crash and restart...but seemingly not."Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." is what it says.

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

I just started having this problem in the past week. It never happened before, and I haven't installed anything new or changed anything that I can think of.On occasion, I will be doing various tasks, and all of the sudden the screen will freeze. Everything is still shown, it doesn't go black, it's just frozen. It will continue doing this until I either restart or simply log off. The fact that I can log off and it fixes it leads me to believe it is not a hardware issue. I've had enough of those so I hope it's not. After it comes back, the cursor doesn't change icons based on what I'm hovering over, such as a link showing a hand instead of just the default. Whatever icon is currently stuck on the pointer will then turn into some multicolored glitchy version of itself.
If anyone has any clue as to what may be causing this, please share. I will give any additional information as requested. About last year my computer started to crash, when playing games. However the crashes were not frequent, rare cases. I didn't bother with it but about 4 months ago, it started to have exe crashes and computer restarts ever so often, maybe an hour or 2 before crashing. I started to look into it, updated my graphics driver, lower the settings on the games, scanned for viruses. Nothing worked, then I downloaded Malware bytes and it detected svchost as a threat. The file is in Windows, instead of Windows\system32. I couldn't really remove this and I got frustrated by nothing fixing this problem so I decided to wipe my computer clean.
When I got back on the crashes continued and not only that, the svchost is still in the Windows folder. And today my computer detected, Trojan: DOS /Alureon, I don't know if that has to do with in relation to the svchost or if my problem is entirely something different. But high memory type of games such as APB reloaded, or the Secret World, cause my computer to crash almost every 5-10 minutes.

I've been having this problem where my envy 14 laptop will attempt to go into sleep mode (or i'll close the lid) when in reality the screen just shuts off and everything else continues to run. At this point I can't wake the computer up and I have to hard reboot. If i leave the laptop in this pseudo sleep long enough it will just crash and I get the safe mode options upon rebooting.
I've rolled back graphics drivers and then updated again to no avail, I've run a system restore to no avail, I've reset all the power management settings to allow for sleep and changed the multimedia sharing options to allow for sleep as well, I've run multiple anti virus scans AND turned off all unnecessary start up programs, still, to no avail.
I have a lot of memory.dmp files all from this past week, how would i go about sharing and reading one of those?

set up my parents brand new PC running Win 7 64 bit. Basically everything is fine except for 2 things which may be connected?1)Even though I connect to the internet no problem the little blue circle continues to spin in the taskbar as if it's trying to connect.2)I installed the latest version of firefox and that shows a banner along the top of the screen constantly saying something along the lines of updates are being downloaded.I have asimilair setup at home and have not come across this before.I've also installed AVG,Ccleaner and Comodo firewall.

I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?
I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.
Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?

I just finished building my new PC and have an odd question. I installed Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and the system boots just fine. However, when I click on "Computer" in the start menu, W7 is only seeing my SSD and not my HDD.When I started installing W7, I was asked by the installation program on which drive I would like to install. I chose my SSD. Installation went smoothly yet it does not see that 2nd HDD. Interestingly, when I click on device manager, the 2nd HDD is listed and appears to be "working properly".
System specs:
Mobo: Intel DZ68BC
CPU: Intel i5 2500
SSD: Intel SSDSA2CW
HDD: Samsung HD103S
Both the drives are connected via SATA cables. The SSD is in a 3gb/s "SATA 0" slot, the HDD is in "SATA 1" and the optical drive is in "SATA 2".Within the BIOS, under "Configuration" --> SATA drive:
Chipset SATA is enabled
Chipset SATA mode is AHCI
SATA ports 0 / 1 / 2 not installed (?)
SATA port 3 - optical drive
SATA port 4 Samsung HDD
SATA port 5 SSD
No SATA Hot Plug Capability is enabled. The Secondary SATA is enabled in IDE mode. What am I missing here? Do I have something plugged into the wrong SATA port? Why would it be seen in device manager and in the BIOS yet not seen when I look at "My Computer"?

This is my first build and with the process of part shopping figuring out what I wanted I never though of the OS. I have a PC with a 500gb hard drive running windows but when I bought this PC I didn't get a disk. Is there any way to copy windows to my new 1tb hard drive. I recently built a computer (for the first time) and I tried installing Windows 7 64bit on it, but it doesn't see the hard drive. The hard drive shows up just fine in the BIOS so I tried installing Linux to see if that would see it..which it did. So why would Windows 7 not see the hard drive will everything else can?

I recently built a PC for myself a few weeks ago. The specs will be pasted below after the description of my problem.
While gaming, surfing the web, or running AutoCAD, my PC just freezes up. It has happened 5-6 times and I am not sure what is going on.
I did some research and I was advised to go to ASUS's QVL for my Motherboard and check the latency and recommended speed. I followed the advised instructions but my PC froze again while playing a game.
I then tried running virus scans to see if this was the issue but I detected nothing. I ran Windows Update, but the problem still occurred.
The most significant recent change I did was upgrade my video card's drivers to NVIDIA's 296 driver. Could it be the voltage of my DDR3 Memory? It is rated at 1.5V. Below are the specs for my machine.
Operating System
MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1

After installing a fresh Windows 7, I would optimize it doing the steps of those guides: Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!! (17 steps) Master Tutorial to Make Your Windows 7 Super Fast - Tweaking with Vishal (7 steps)
Instead of doing this manually, I would use a .REG (and/or .BAT) file.
So, for those steps below:
1. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7.
2. Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7.
3. Disable all Visual Effects (Sys. Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Visual Effects)
4. Disable the User account control (UAC).
5. Disable the Windows 7 Sidebar.
6. Disable the Aero Peek and Aero Snap features in Windows 7.
7. Change the Power Plan To Maximum Performance.
8. Disable the Thumbnail Preview Feature.
9. Disable all System Sounds (run > mmsys.cpl).
Question A. What are the Windows 7 registry branches storing those settings?
Question B. Which Windows 7 registry tool localize those branches? Comparing the registry before and after manually doing one of those step. Registry Monitor- Askkids.com regshot | Get regshot at SourceForge.net Splunk | IT Search for Log Management, Operations, Security and Compliance

I just finished building my first gaming rig (WoooT!) and it works (DOUBLE WOOT!) and now I have to install Windows 7. The catch is my mom's company has free copies from her work that are stored online in an FTP site. Can I access those from the BIOS or is there any other way I can get to them and install without having a running operating system on my computer? I don't have a USB of Windows or any other software and I got sold a fake copy (at least I'm pretty damn sure it is) from Ebay and I really don't want to use that.
I go out and buy another DVD of Windows 7?

Finally got assembled, everything in BIOs looks detected to the best of my knowledge. But I'm trying to get Windows 7 installed, and the boot order will not change.
Using a Gigabyte P67A-D3-B3 and an older harddrive that has Windows XP on it. I was under the impression that I could boot from the CD and just overwrite the old Windows.
But everytime I turn it on it just goes to start XP then I get a blue screen. I've changed the boot order to properly boot from cdrom first. (There is another menu accessed by F12 on gigabyte bios called boot order which doesn't seem to work either)
I tried taking the battery out after changing settings and draining it, but this brought me to a Checksum Bios Error screen where it seemed to go back to the old settings?

I have a couple of questions pertaining to my new pc build that is being shipped to me. I am building a new computer using a Corsair Force GT 120gb SSD as my boot drive and a Seagate Barracuda 1tb drive for files and whatever else. When installing the SSD (my EVGA Z68 SLI has SATA 3) is there anything special I need to do? I assume there isn't, other than just plug it into the SATA 3 port and go. Now, once the computer is up and running, what must I do to get windows to install on it? I have read about changing from IDE to AHCI (not sure if my BIOS will have that or not but I will find out soon). Is there anything else? I also read that changing the boot priority to dvd rom first, SSD second, then the HDD third will help as well. Both drives are brand new so no partitions or anything, clean install. Second part, I bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 professional 64 bit and to install it, can I just pull out my old retail copy of Windows XP and install that first, then once it gets me to the desktop, reboot and do it all over again, this time installing the Windows 7 upgrade over it? In theory, I imagine this is how I would have to do it, but I am not positive so that is why I am inquiring.
