Windows 7 Keeps Freezing While Using New Build?

Mar 19, 2012

I recently built a PC for myself a few weeks ago.The specs will be pasted below after the description of my problem. While gaming, surfing the web, or running AutoCAD, my PC just freezes up.It has happened 5-6 times and I am not sure what is going on.I did some research and I was advised to go to ASUS's QVL for my Motherboard and check the latency and recommended speed.I followed the advised instructions but my PC froze again while playing a game.I then tried running virus scans to see if this was the issue but I detected nothing.I ran Windows Update, but the problem still occurred. The most significant recent change I did was upgrade my video card's drivers to NVIDIA's 296 driver.Could it be the voltage of my DDR3 Memory? It is rated at 1.5V.Below are the specs for my machine.

System Freezing / Instability / New Build Windows 7 X64

Aug 27, 2011

I built a new computer setup and have been having frequent crashing, hanging and freezing problems. At one point I had the odd BSOD but as of late no BSOD's just freezing up. I have attempted full reinstall of the OS, checked all updates, drivers, firmwares, bios setttings etc and still am plagued by this very frequent problem. Have also tried installing and uninstalling SP1 and the recently released MS hotfix for freezing issues with no improvement. [code]

Windows Live Messenger 2009 Build 14.0 Freezing

Sep 27, 2011

It just keeps freezing for no particular reason, it doesn't shows any kind of error, I can still see the webcam image, animations from emoticons, the ellipsis when my contact is typing a message and I still can hear the microphone sound coming from my friend during a call. But I can't type, I can't click and highlight MSN's window and I also can't see the messages I recieve from my contact, It just freezes for about five minutes, and then comes back like nothing ever happened. I've already changed my LAN Settings on IE to do not automatically detect LAN Settings.

Freezing/Crashing On StartUp, New Build

Jul 6, 2012

I recently built a new pc and I'm having some issues with Windows 7 which seems to freeze on start up. By this I mean at the "Starting Windows" screen the animation will start but will freeze after a couple of seconds. It usually takes me about 3 restarts to then get into windows. I haven't been using Windows Repair tool because the restore deletes all of the programmes that I've put on and the crashing continues to happen despite the changes. I'll list my specs below:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
ASRock Pro3 Gen3 Z68
Intel Core i5 2500k currently @ stock speed
Gigabyte 560Ti OC
OCZ ZS 550w
8GB DDR3 Crucial Ballistix 1600mhz
Kingston HyperX 120gb SSD (Boot Drive)
Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue (Overflow Drive)

I don't think the SSD is the problem because when I did the install on the WD HDD I still had the instability and the crashes. The drivers I have installed are: Realtek LAN drivers, Nvidia 500 series Graphics, Nvidia HD Audio and all of the "Important" Windows 7 updates.

Programs Keep Freezing On New "high-end" Build?

Mar 1, 2011

So I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP.the new operating system, except for one major flaw.Programs keep freezing on me! Even windows items, like when I'm browsing through my pictures. There's a few programs that ALWAYS freeze though, including Adobe Bridge and iTunes.Sometimes they'll unfreeze, other times I have to manually force close them through the task manager.

My specs:

Windows 7 Pro installed on a 60gb Vertex 2 SSD
i7 2600k clocked at 4.0ghz
5TB of WD storage
16gb of Gskill Memory
OCZ StealthXstream 600w PSU
Water-cooled, and CPU idles at 25-26c

So I don't think it's my system causing it (not enough memory, overheating, etc...).Has to be something internal with Windows.

New Computer Build Work With Old Build's Windows 7 Disc?

Jul 5, 2011

My current system was upgraded to windows 7 32bit from vista 32bit (I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade disc when it was first released). I am going to build a complete new system. Can I install windows 7 64bit from the same windows 7 disc? Or do I have to buy a new windows 7 disc? Is there a way around buying a whole new disc?

Newly Built Computer Random Freezing And Freezing On Starting Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I recently built my first PC three days ago...

Specs:
i7 bloomfield 960 processor
4x4 vengeance ram
crosair hx850 PSU
evga x58 ftw3 mobo
hd 6870 radeon graphics xfx

When I first installed windows it started to work just fine but I soon noticed that it would randomly freeze every 15-30 minutes of use, but not on a particular program or anything. I assumed it was drivers so I installed the latest drivers for my GPU and MOBO and keyboard. It seemed fine again until it started crashing again. I ran a GPU burn test and a CPU burn test it passed both. (I tried runing memtest86+ but it froze at like 12%) Then I tried fixing the registry so I downloaded ccleaner and fixed the registry problems. Freezes continued. I finally decided to re install windows so I did and the problems still continued. I am at a loss of what to do and can't think of anything else.

Upgrade From Build 7100 To Build 7264

Aug 2, 2009

I am currently running OS 7 Beta RC Build 7100. Were do I get this newer version, is there a big difference? And am I able to upgrade to the newer Beta?

I realize that October is fast approaching for the RTM but I plan to keep running the Beta for a couple of months past the Grand Opening.

Is it possible that all the updates that I have received equally add up to the newer build?

Persistent Freezing Blue Screens And Freezing

Mar 14, 2012

Computer is currently suffering from persistent freezing and bluescreens. It seems to happen almost randomly, and usually very soon after startup and loading of Windows. System restore has not helped.'fraid that's all the info I can give right now. Any recommendations? If anyone wants me to run hijackthis or dxdiag and post results I'd be more than happy to (assuming I can get that far before it freezes!). Safe mode does work, and the problem does not occur while in safe mode.

New Build - 2nd HDD Not Seen By Windows 7

Dec 30, 2011

I just finished building my new PC and have an odd question. I installed Windows 7 64bit Home Premium and the system boots just fine. However, when I click on "Computer" in the start menu, W7 is only seeing my SSD and not my HDD.When I started installing W7, I was asked by the installation program on which drive I would like to install. I chose my SSD. Installation went smoothly yet it does not see that 2nd HDD. Interestingly, when I click on device manager, the 2nd HDD is listed and appears to be "working properly".

System specs:

Mobo: Intel DZ68BC
CPU: Intel i5 2500
SSD: Intel SSDSA2CW
HDD: Samsung HD103S

Both the drives are connected via SATA cables. The SSD is in a 3gb/s "SATA 0" slot, the HDD is in "SATA 1" and the optical drive is in "SATA 2".Within the BIOS, under "Configuration" --> SATA drive:

Chipset SATA is enabled
Chipset SATA mode is AHCI
SATA ports 0 / 1 / 2 not installed (?)
SATA port 3 - optical drive
SATA port 4 Samsung HDD
SATA port 5 SSD

No SATA Hot Plug Capability is enabled. The Secondary SATA is enabled in IDE mode. What am I missing here? Do I have something plugged into the wrong SATA port? Why would it be seen in device manager and in the BIOS yet not seen when I look at "My Computer"?

How To Get Windows 7 On To PC Build

Feb 2, 2013

This is my first build and with the process of part shopping figuring out what I wanted I never though of the OS. I have a PC with a 500gb hard drive running windows but when I bought this PC I didn't get a disk. Is there any way to copy windows to my new 1tb hard drive. If not is there a way to take my current 500gb out and put it in my new PC then somehow transfer windows to the 1tb hard drive. I have always got prebuilt computers so I have never had to worry about an OS and I guess I made a big rookie mistake not leaving any room in my budget for a $100+ OS..Whoops AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8350FRHKBOX COOLER MASTER R4-S2S-124K-GP 120mm Case Fan 4 in 1 pack BIOSTAR TA990FXE AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS SAMSUNG DVD Burner SATA Model SH-224BB - OEM PowerColor PCS+ AX7870 2GBD5-2DHPPV3E Radeon HD 7870 MYST. Windows 7 Doesn't See Hdd On New Build?

The hard drive shows up just fine in the BIOS so I tried installing Linux to see if that would see it..which it did. So why would Windows 7 not see the hard drive will everything else can?

How To Build A .REG To Optimize Windows 7

Apr 11, 2010

After installing a fresh Windows 7, I would optimize it doing the steps of those guides: Speed Up Windows 7 - Ultimate Guide To Make Windows 7 Blazing Fast!!! (17 steps) Master Tutorial to Make Your Windows 7 Super Fast - Tweaking with Vishal (7 steps)

Instead of doing this manually, I would use a .REG (and/or .BAT) file.
So, for those steps below:

1. Disabling the Search Indexing Feature in Windows 7.
2. Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7.
3. Disable all Visual Effects (Sys. Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Visual Effects)
4. Disable the User account control (UAC).
5. Disable the Windows 7 Sidebar.
6. Disable the Aero Peek and Aero Snap features in Windows 7.
7. Change the Power Plan To Maximum Performance.
8. Disable the Thumbnail Preview Feature.
9. Disable all System Sounds (run > mmsys.cpl).

Question A. What are the Windows 7 registry branches storing those settings?

Question B. Which Windows 7 registry tool localize those branches? Comparing the registry before and after manually doing one of those step. Registry Monitor- Askkids.com regshot | Get regshot at SourceForge.net Splunk | IT Search for Log Management, Operations, Security and Compliance

Install Windows 7 To A New Build Without The DVD?

Jun 24, 2011

I just finished building my first gaming rig (WoooT!) and it works (DOUBLE WOOT!) and now I have to install Windows 7. The catch is my mom's company has free copies from her work that are stored online in an FTP site. Can I access those from the BIOS or is there any other way I can get to them and install without having a running operating system on my computer? I don't have a USB of Windows or any other software and I got sold a fake copy (at least I'm pretty damn sure it is) from Ebay and I really don't want to use that.

I go out and buy another DVD of Windows 7?

Windows 7 Install On Build With Old HD

Nov 22, 2011

Finally got assembled, everything in BIOs looks detected to the best of my knowledge. But I'm trying to get Windows 7 installed, and the boot order will not change.

Using a Gigabyte P67A-D3-B3 and an older harddrive that has Windows XP on it. I was under the impression that I could boot from the CD and just overwrite the old Windows.

But everytime I turn it on it just goes to start XP then I get a blue screen. I've changed the boot order to properly boot from cdrom first. (There is another menu accessed by F12 on gigabyte bios called boot order which doesn't seem to work either)

I tried taking the battery out after changing settings and draining it, but this brought me to a Checksum Bios Error screen where it seemed to go back to the old settings?

Windows 7 Upgrade On New SSD / HDD Build

Feb 10, 2012

I have a couple of questions pertaining to my new pc build that is being shipped to me. I am building a new computer using a Corsair Force GT 120gb SSD as my boot drive and a Seagate Barracuda 1tb drive for files and whatever else. When installing the SSD (my EVGA Z68 SLI has SATA 3) is there anything special I need to do? I assume there isn't, other than just plug it into the SATA 3 port and go. Now, once the computer is up and running, what must I do to get windows to install on it? I have read about changing from IDE to AHCI (not sure if my BIOS will have that or not but I will find out soon). Is there anything else? I also read that changing the boot priority to dvd rom first, SSD second, then the HDD third will help as well. Both drives are brand new so no partitions or anything, clean install. Second part, I bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 professional 64 bit and to install it, can I just pull out my old retail copy of Windows XP and install that first, then once it gets me to the desktop, reboot and do it all over again, this time installing the Windows 7 upgrade over it? In theory, I imagine this is how I would have to do it, but I am not positive so that is why I am inquiring.

Installing Windows 7 On New Build

May 19, 2012

I finished building a new computer today and everything was working fine, but when I select the custom/new installation of Windows 7, it brings me to a screen that claims Disk 0 Partition 1 is 2048 GB and OEM reserved. I've never done this before, so it's entirely possible that I'm missing something obvious, but given that the hard drive is only 1.5 TB it seems like something has to be wrong here. Is there a way for me to either safely delete that entire partition or to partition it into something I could actually install to?

Whenever it boots is goes through the loading page and the "starting windows" page but when it gets to the choosing language, country, etc.screen it freezes and my keyboard and mouse are none responsive.I can enter the BIOS just fine and my keyboard and mouse work there.I think the problem might be related to resolution as I am using my HDTV.
