It was fixed and everything was working fine until last night when the problem returned. I'm trying to make my wallpaper but when I scale or fit it with desktop personalization it cuts off an important part of it or it doesn't cover the whole screen.I want to take a full screen shot in Windows Media Center but whenever I take the screenshot I just get a black screen and not the screen shot.So it seems it may be a bug or something and I'm not the only one with the problem.I followed those steps and added what they told me to with Regedit but it still didn't work for me. The author in the article says to "restart" media center does that just mean to close the program and open it again? I tried that and it still didn't work.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI'm fairly new to Win7 Home Premium64. When I try to create a screen shot, I use "print screen" , then open "Paint" and select "paste". The desired image appears but from that point on I can't copy and paste into gmail. I would like to send the screen shot via email using my Gmail Application.
The message I'm getting is: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action and that I need to "create an association in the default program control panel".
I have no idea about how to create that association in the default control panel. As far as I can see, the image that has been pasted in "Paint" is a PNG file. I have looked through all of the settings in gmail but can't find any place to "create that association".
How do you get to take screen shot of the installation screens or any other screen before booting up? Or are you using any camera or something?

To take a screenshot, view your desktop and press the "Prt Screen" button on your keyboard, then paste it in to paint and save the file as a jpg. You can then upload this image as an attachment when you reply to this thread. Attachments will automatically add a clickable thumbnail to the thread making it easy to judge.
I am getting fuzzy screenshots. what to do about this? I say "fuzzy" in the sense of their being difficult to read.

At the same time I was cleaning games and apps I was not using. As I was browsing trough the list of apps i noticed that the pop up box of Skype (when someone signs in) has bold font. I clicked and opened Skype to discover that the font there is bold as well. Then I saw it on Facebook actually every web page has a bold font now.. Some other apps i use (Hamachi, Antispy, etc..) show up the same way.I want to say again that my dialog boxes, system windows and desktop icons are fine like they were. Basically, I'm done with malware, long boot times, and huge system overhead and would like to switch to Ubuntu for my everyday computing, web surfing, writing, media consumption, etc. and fire up Windows in a VM only when I absolutely need it. As the list above implies I do lean pretty heavily on the processor and video card when I'm working or playing, and I'm wondering how Virtual Box would handle it.

Each time i insert dvd/cd and open my computer to check.

My Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine.
When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. I can't tell there are any issues. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd.
I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

I have an SSD drive mounted as a secondary master on my motherboard that has lost performance. I did have some things on the drive that I ended up deleting because load times were painfully long. I did not format the drive using the format options in Windows as I know this further degrades performance for SSDs, but there is nothing on the drive at all right now.
My question is, is there a way to secure erase the drive while still inside Windows? All the info I've found regarding secure erasing a drive has to to with having to boot the computer with some disc (insert title), unplugging the sata cable to the drive and plugging it back in, running said program, and erasing the drive. I understand this if the drive is the Primary Master and Windows is to be installed on the drive, but this is not the case for me.
Is there a way to do this inside Windows since its a secondary drive, meaning Windows is on a completely different drive, or is there a program or something for SSDs where you can restore performance inside Windows.

Whenever I go into the Recycle Bin to permanently delete files, when I right click, it freezes up and gives me the message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" then it proceeds to "Windows Explorer Is Restarting" Now I can delete files just fine when I'm on the desktop and simply right click, and choose Empty Recycle bin off of the Recycle Bin icon.

i have this win 7 system listed above, BUT, i just loaded the win XP mode (shell) virtual PC program yesterday and made it work fine. i even loaded the norton and firefox, just fine. Today i went to use it and the first thing i went to do was change my original dorky password. in the 'change password' window, i typed my old password and then hit 'enter', which i thought would make the password into a 'blank' enter key.
Previously I have installed Windows XP then Windows 7 in different drives of my computer. Later installed Ubuntu 10.10 inside Windows 7 and upgraded it to 11.04.After that Accidentally I have formatted Windows XP drive from Ubuntu. I installed XP again to the same drive. I tried to repair Windows 7 and it worked fine, but the problem is I can boot only Windows 7. I have used BCDEdit tool to add entry to boot menu. This also worked fine that I am able to boot both Windows 7 & Windows XP.Now I want to boot Ubuntu 11.04 also using already installed partition.I don't want install it again(as I have to update it to 11.04 again).I have Windows XP in C drive, Windows 7 in D drive and Ubuntu 11.04 in E drive.

I consider myself fairly smart with computers but my laptop has gone beyond my brain At first it would just reboot itself after being on it for a little bit, I tried downloading an antivirus (avast) and it all went downhill!! View 6 Replies View Relatedi decided to upgrade my laptop from 3gb ddr3 of ram to 8 gb ddr3 , now i faced an odd problem where i got to realize that despite windows recognizing all 8 gbs of ram in system information (msinfo32) under "Installed Physical Memory" i realized that both system information and task manager shows "Total Physical Memory" to be 2.93 gb , i searched the forum throughly up till i came across this thread : Memory - Set Maximum Amount Used by Windows 7 now i got to realize that 32 bit windows can only handle 4gb of ram . now trying to sort my options i have a few questions i need to be adressed :
1 - is it smooth to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit of windows , i have heaps of programs installed over years that i cant risk to lose nor have the time to reinstall if i took the fresh installation option :/ if possible then how ? any specific tool or windows version ?
2 - any known porting , utilities or hacks that were made to make 32bit os recognize all 8gb ram ?
3 - if non of the above were valid , if i am to work with only 4 gb , why does my system read only 2.93 gb of which ? i can notice it sums up all spare 5 gb as "Hardware Reserved" . i investigated to see if the extra 1 gb is reserved by graphics card but only to find that my graphics card is only up to 750 mb of shared memory and those already are shared from "Total Physical Memory" and not hardware reserve , why i have access to only 3 of the 4 gbs of rams i'm allowed ?
