View 4 Replies View RelatedI just took delivery of a Dell (xps 9000, Windows 7 64) and it's the first system I've had that didn't come with an OS disc. So, I'm new to all this recovery/diagnostic partition stuff. I'd like to be able to do a clean install of Windows 7 so I don't have the bloatware that came pre-installed. But, from what I've read it seems like my only option is to create a system image to restore to (which would have all the pre-installed stuff anyway)? Is my only option to uninstall anything I don't want and then do the system image? I know that would leave some registry files and whatnot, but ideally I'd like a completely clean install.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a dell demension 4600 also i have upgraded the ram to 4 gigs, the cpu to 3.02, a nvidia geForce 6200 agp graphics card, i know i will be needing a sound card, what would you recommend. What i am looking to do is install windows 7 home premium. I seem to have all of the necessary hardware to do this install. Will I need to purchase a new copy of windows 7 home premium. I already own several other computers with windows 7 running on them. I was just wondering if it will work like when I pop an XP disc in a pc and it just lets me install windows. If its going to cost me more than 150 I would rather just let this pc live out its lifespan running what it currently is. But I don't mind overcoming a few hurdles to install 7 as long as it is not going to get too costly and the troubleshooting becomes too time consuming.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Dell XPS 8300 almost 1 year ago.The last couple months I have had boot issues when I turn the pc on.All hardware tests (since I purchased the pc have passed with no problems). The boot issues are where all the icon's for the short cuts do not load and or the icon to show I am connected to the internet does not load properly. If I try to do alt/control/delete I cannot access anything. Then in most cases if I do a hard re-boot,the computer boots properly.Today was the killer. My wife turned on the pc and she got a blank screen. She then attempted a hard re-boot and for over 3 hr's it showed "loading game" on the middle of the screen. When I came home for lunch,my wife was on the phone with Dell. After they had her do a hard re-boot,the computer booted properly (after the usual "start windows normally" option came up. The "tech" connected on the pc and basically did all the things I could think of (i.e. hardware test to really check the hard drive etc.)When the "tech" could not fiqure out any other issue,he said that we will need to re-set to factory settings and that they are sending us a usb key to do that. In his judgement, there is a problem with the install of Windows 7 and that is the only thing that they can figure out is the problem. Outside of the "booting issues" the pc has worked great and I have had no other problems.
I am not a "techy",but I am also computer literate learning how to do basic things from watching my friends and learning how to access things on Windows to do basic repair. Long and short, does that seem like my only alternative?..I did make the recovery discs, still have the driver discs. I have re-installed Windows before (when I upgraded my Laptop and other desk top to Windows 7) and it is painful to make sure I made copies of everything I want to back-up,which I usually do and re-install all my softwear.
it only has usb device, i have windows made in my usb flash it boots up, but before it starts to install, it need some drivers for dvd/cd device (which i dont have) or usb, i have usb driver on seperate flash but it dosnt recognize it or its just a bad driver i dont know. Now it has linux installed, maybe this is the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just replaced my dad's old computer - just the stack, have left all the peripherals as they were all fine (monitor, kb, mouse, printer). The new computer was pre-installed with windows 7. Everything seems to work perfectly but it failed when trying to install the driver for the dell photo aio 944. According to the dell and ms website it is not a supported product.I tried the xp drivers - the printer was added to the printers list but nothing would print. I tried to install the vista drivers, but got some kine of VB error when I ran the set-up.Is there any way to get this printer to work with win 7 (even with limited functionality) as I would hate to throw it away - the printer is perfect and they only use maybe once a fortnight.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a dell XPS 8100 with windows 7 Home premium sp1 64 bit Recently this computer got a virus transferred to it from a camera card.
I took this computer to a local computer shop and the tech removed things which made my computer, in short, not the dell i purchased 2 years ago.
I contacted dell and received an OS disc for windows 7 home premium.
when i use the F8 prompt to get into restoring my computer to factory settings. This is the first few things that confuse me as do many..First: There is no prompt in the F8 to reset to factory condition, only a option to restore image. 2nd: I try to use advanced commands to find the OS disc which i have in the D drive but it never finds it..
I had dell inspiron 1525 on vista purchased 2years ago , a month back I gave it to technician for OS update. Its now working like charm on windows 7 . But the problem is , the stupid technician forget to load dell media direct on it.I searched many sites to install it without wiping my os , but no luck. how can I install it on laptop without reloading os again as I have so many softwares and data on my 500gb HD.or Can I do it by creating a partition with any drive ??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI get D is not a Win32 application. There is no "run as adminstrator"option, I can't change compatibility mode because it only brings up a list of already installed programs, I bought it retail and have installed it on my computer, my kids computers, etc., no limit on installations.. If I try autoplay I can feel the disc spinning but it never starts to load. I really need it for work as I work from home and it is a requirement.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCan anyone tell me if I can install an OEM Win 7 64 bit serial number on a system that was loaded from a Dell reinstallation disk? I bought the disk, and what turned out to be a bogas serial number from different venders. Now I have purchased the whole legitimate program from a vender I trust. The reason for wanting to do this involves licensing limits on other expensive software already loaded.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBeen scouring the net but haven't been able to find anything so I thought I'd post. Sorry if there's been a lot of these types of threads but here's my issue.
Installation of the operating system for Windows 7 actually goes without much difficulty but when I go into the post install setup the monitor goes blank. I've been poking around and what I've managed to conclude is that Dell likes to use it's own generic driver for video display rather than use the Windows Standard VGA Compatible Driver that should start up by default.
The reason why I've come to this conclusion is because I tried booting the new install in safe mode and I could actually see the initial setup page. Of course you can't do the post install settings in safe mode so I couldn't go any further.
My question for you guys, is there any way for me to disable the Dell OEM drivers that like to start overriding the generic drivers that come with windows? And if so how?
