View 1 RepliesI bought each of my twin sons a Dell Inspiron 15R. As teenage boys do, they really mucked them up with every kind of virus and x-ware out there. After not being completely successful cleaning them up with various anti-what-ever programs, I decided to reformat and do a clean install. Problem is, Dell no longer furnishes a hard copy of the OS that was installed at factory. Apparently, they have partitioned the hard drive and installed all original software in that partition, and provided a PC Restore program that will access all software and re-set-up the computer to the state is was when purchased. After doing this, everything worked fine as it claimed it would. Personally, I find it to be the best thing that Dell has done with MS in years.
My question is this...Can I dual boot this set-up with Linux (which I use exclusively, and my son wants to learn), or will this partition that Dell is now using cause me real problems in the case that I may need to perform a future PC Restore?
I have a 4-month old Dell Inspiron N411Z with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit. I have been noticing that it has trouble "waking up" after sleep or hibernate, when I open the lid, after it was left on from the previous usage, I have to hit power button and it boots up with the first screen being safe mode, start windows normally, etc. I get the unexpected shutdown screen. It then boots normally and all is well, until I close the lid and let it sit, this happens whether it is plugged up or not. My first thought was to adjust power settings, sleep/hibernate timers, etc. I have tried nearly every combination, down to choosing "never sleep or hibernate" and still have the same result upon starting up again. I have scoured forums, updated drivers, tested and tried nearly all advice that I have found and can't seem to resolve this. Upon reviewing my Event Viewer, I am consistently getting the same errors nearly every time. The following will be the first six entries in "Administrative Events":
-ERROR-The previous system shutdown at 5:16:06 PM on 5/1/2012 was unexpected. -WARNING-Name resolution for the name [URL] timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
[Code]....
Nothing that I do or change, seems to affect the outcome. However, one thing that I have noticed is when I take the laptop to work or vacation with me, it seems to work fine!?? I noticed this after packing it my suitcase and not using it for nearly 3 days on a trip and went to use it when I got home, expecting to have to boot up as usual, and I get the "resuming windows" screen! as well as a nearly full battery, as if it went in to sleep/hibernation and woke up as it should. This has happened at least 2 times that I am aware of?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop, windows 7, intel i3 core processor about 3 weeks ago, and it ran perfectly, handled all my ridiculous multitasking well, and was really light compared to others I've had. This morning my nephew was using it to play Skyrim (I digress, sometimes I sneak onto his game files for a little fun) and....well he has some anger issues, but that's not what this is about. Something upset him and he slammed the lower left side of the laptop pretty dern hard. Nothing broke on the outside, but suddenly the computer became unresponsive, and I had to force shut down the whole thing. When it started back up it wouldn't....start back up. I got an error message saying "Windows could not start successfully, we recommend you launch startup repair to try and fix the problem. Well I did that about 2 dozen times in a row with failures each time, till finally, much to my joy, it successfully started back up. Except now whenever I try to open a new program, it sometimes has periods of unresponsiveness, and some things like Skyrim can't be opened at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had my laptop Dell INSPIRON N5030 for about a year.It was working fine up till now but when I boot it up it gives me a windows recovery error. It says: windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software might be the cause. When I choose the launch start repair, it just gives me the windows screen with the mouse and nothing happens. Then if i choose load windows normally, it will just go to the loading screen then it'll stay there for a while then go back to the windows recovery error.I've also tryed to reboot the hard drive by pressing F12, but it won't let me it just puts me back on to the windows recovery error screen.

Looking forward solution to get windows 7 working on Dell Inspiron 700M
I'm trying to do a clean installation of Windows 7 x86 on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that I bought in July 2008. It's been running Windows Vista 32-bit without any trouble. Yesterday I purchased the Windows 7 Professional 32-bit upgrade from Digital River and downloaded the ISO. I've burned it onto two separate DVDs using different software and a different computer each time (the second time I used Alcohol 120% and made sure that it was on the slowest setting). Now I'm downloading the iso again.
Each time I try to install it (which has been many times, now, trying different configurations of partitions, etc) I get the error message "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570"
I've read through just about every thread I could find on this site and others and nothing seems to help. The only thing I haven't done is mess with the RAM, but I'd prefer not to do that as I don't have any experience opening up laptops (although I have built three desktops).
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFrom what I can see, this seems to be a fairly common problem across computers...My Dell Inspiron n5010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) sporadically won't read DVDs. A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? I only had the "high" option, which apparently means that fix isn't for me...)-Uninstalling any DVD-burning software that may be interfering with my laptop's own DVD player/software.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently bought Dell Inspiron 14R N4110, which came only one default partition (C:) with Windows 7 Home Premium. But later on, I did one more partition (D:), and I installed all drivers(which comes with Dell laptop). but some how my internet is not working properly. Sometime its too slow and not connecting.I reformatted the laptop, and Restored the modem/router to factory defaults (in that order) neither helped. But if I restored my laptop to factory default (which I don't want, because it has only one partition C: ), than everything works fine. Why its happen ?
