here a very strange problem that happen JUST with ONE user. All the other users, administrator included, do not have this problem. So I think it is not a system wide problem, just one user (ME, sadly) problem.I pretty much tryed a lot of stuff to try to fix this problem, without no luck. Here what happen.Desktop icon problem, when I do log on or logoff (or when I do reboot the computer and I do load the affected user) icons reset, themeself on the left side of the desktop and with the Aligne Icon to the Grid. And NO, the View/Automatically place the icons (or something like that, I do not use English language) it is not selected. Also if I select any option, they are always resetted to an evident "default" for my user I never ever configured.Folder problem. It is similar and probably connected to the other problem, like a particular switch loaded on this user and just this user that reset everything to this default I never choosed. If, for example, I do choose to personalize folder details (example to have both date changed and date accessed for a folder), it will work for as long as the window stay open, then If I close and reopen it, it go to a default and that default is not choosed by me. This happen for any folder.
ok I bought this laptop in september. I did not have the internet on it, so this is not a virus... the internet came installed with vista, and I got the coupon for free windows 7 upgradePROBLEM -- every time I turn the laptop on, the icons disappear.. I right click on the desktop and 'show desktop icons' IS ticked.. so I untick it, and retick it, then the icons appear again.after a few hours they disappear again... also I can customise the desktop to have a picture or even a plain background like bright yellow.. but it will reset the background when it removes the iconsI thought this was a stupid windows vista issue so installed the Windows 7 upgrade. and the problem has continuedhour
Is there a way to make the folder icons look like the windows XP folder icons, where the folders are flat instead of skewed, and showed 1 to 4 picture thumbnails? Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.
I installed a program the other day that messed with my Windows Explorer. Now no folder will remember it's View options (Large Icons, List, Details), they all reset to their default.
As you can see it's nothing to do with Libraries. Neither the 'Shell Fix' nor editing the registry at
Recently I've used Hyperdesk (Hyperdesk: The ultimate desktop themes for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, skins, icons, wallpapers, widgets, desktop themes for Disney, Pixar and Star Trek, themes for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and more!) but eventually disliked it and uninstalled again. Since then most of my standard Windows 7 icons are missing/not showing up.
I tried rebuilding the icon cache with tutorials posted on this site = no luck. Also tried a restore point, still no luck. Have attached 2 screenshots for you
All else is running smoothly and I don't really want to reinstall all Windows just because of a few icons not showing up
im trying to make my media drive more fun,and i've been playing with the icons.when i realized that there are icons i can download of the actual shows or whatever,i started going that route.my only problem is aesthetics-i have no uniformity, and in some cases i cant find the icons (.ico,to be clear)on the internet.i've tried converting jpegs into icons,i've tried programs that convert them into icons(which had horrible results),ultimately,i just need some freakin help.if you can either make the icons for me or point me in the right direction, thatd be super.i've found some sites that have downloadable icons, but they dont have them for all tv shows,or things like that.
I have bought myself a new lapto - Sony - with windows 7 64bit installed on it. My old systme also have windows 7 but only with 32bit. Here is my problem.n the old system I could take the option Properties by rigth clicking on any folder and change the Icon from the windows selection. However on the new Sony it wont allow me to do that. It does not even bring up the option to chage the icon.
i am missing a folder (at least one that i know of since i've tried to access it today) in my drop down bookmarks. it's filled with many site addresses.i've even checked inside all my other folders to make sure it wasn't hidinghen i've lost all of those icons that i added to my toolbar. icons like "dictionary", "Internet", "gmail", "yahoo", "google" and many others that i can't think of right now.i don't even have a refresh button anymore.there aren't any of those little drop down arrows where i can just re-add stuff.
a couple games on steam and moved the icons into the games folder. Now I'm stuck with the default file icon and I cant do anything with it. I also went into appdata and delete EVERYTHING in games explorer and they are still there
In one of my user account( standard User account) i cant see folder icons ,thumbnails etc but iam able to see all folder icons etc in my admin user account? .even,my computer icon in desktop is corrupted and not properly visible.in windows explorer also,it is the same case.
I was wondering if there was any way of changing the icons displayed in the Devices and Printers folder. I was wanting to use life like photos of each of my devices inplace of what windows wants me to see.
I don't think this is exactly related to customization, but rather maybe the way Windows 7 handles file paths. I have an external HD with many folders with custom icons. On my PC the drive letter which is always assigned is G. Now, when I use it on a friend's PC, which assigns drive letter E, all my custom folder icons disappear. Note that all the relevant .ico files are where they're supposed to be (inside the folders whose icons they should customize). I'm assuming Windows always tries to locate the icons on a G: drive, which only exists on my PC but not on my friend's (where it's E). How can I change that?
is it possible to group multiple icons which have been pinned to the taskbar into a folder? so when hovering over the folder it should open to show what is in it? for example could i put internet explorer, google chrome, and mozilla firefox into a folder so there is not 3 icons but jsut one?
I have put custom folder icons (pictures basically), for some of my folders. I can see the custom folder icons, But when other computers on my network access the folders (they are shared), they can't see the custom icons. All the see are the default folder icons.
Okay, so a friend of my dad told him that he used to see the folder icons and labels in the left pane of Outlook 2007 in a bigger font/size before switching to a new computer with Windows 7. Obviously, we all know that upgrading Windows won't change font sizes that are coded into independent programs, so I'm thinking that maybe his old computer was running at a lower resolution. Anywho, my dad's friend asked my dad to ask me this question, and since I don't use Office 2007 anymore, I need to ask you: is there a way to change the size of the folder icons and labels in the left pane of Outlook 2007, without changing the size of anything else?
I was having an issue with my print spooler resetting itself to the stopped setting and manual after each reboot or shutdown. I apparently fixed that one (however, not entirely sure how I did it). But now all of a sudden, I have another service doing the same thing. My Acronis Backup Scheduler service is resetting itself to Manual from a setting of Automatic and started after each shutdown and restart. It never had an issue until yesterday. No updates to that product was done in the last few weeks. It is the most current updated software for the product.
Is there anyone that knows why and how these settings can begin doing this?
Recently we have been hit by some spam in our blogs and on the site in general about commercial software to reset Windows passwords. This is clearly spam and always plugs some product to magically reset your Windows password. I'd like everyone to know that these advertisers have been removed from the site for abusing our system. There is a very simple, and concise way to reset lost Windows passwords which is documented several times on this site.Using this free product: Offline NT Password & Registry Editor Unsolicited advertising violates our terms of service agreement and is misleading to our members. The truth is, with the right CD image, anyone can properly reset a Windows password easily and effectively, without any costs associated with it.It simply requires reading the documentation of the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor utility created in open source. We confirm this utility works in Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
I have a problem where if I ever change my view in an explorer window it will never stay to what I set it to. It doesn't matter which folder I change, the folder will always reset back to the "Details" view as soon as I leave that directory. I've tried rebuilding my icon cache using this guide, Icon Cache - Rebuild, but it didn't fix the problem. I even did a windows upgrade so all system files would reinstall, but again, that didn't fix the problem.
OK I'm not sure what happened but I'll try and explain. So last night I shut down my computer like normal and this morning I started up the computer like normal and it looked like everything was fine. The swirling windows logo showed up like it should but right after that it said windows is preparing to start a new session or something along those linesAfter logging in it seemed everything was set to default, all my programs and files were there but everything was reset. When I clicked on the start button you usually get a list of recently used programs above the list all programs button but there was nothing there. Also the task bar was empty as well. I did a restore and it seemed to fix the problem but I'm just wondering why it would do that just right out of the blue.
I got this sexy pc my man built me less than a year ago and it's been working fine (or maybe I haven't noticed before) but in the past few months the clock is resetting every time[i] I reboot. It seems to lose time over a couple hours of just being turned on as well. It's a very stealthy process so I haven't actually seen it do it, but all of a sudden I'll be late for work again, and blaming my pc has become a lame excuse. I've read topics on this, my motherboard battery is dead, but it's not only on reboots as it happens every day and I barely ever turn it off. Anyway. If it is the mb battery, how do I find this out? It's my gaming pc if that matters in any way and my motherboard is the hot Sabertooth x58. I'm running windows 7 ultimate.
My real issue is that I forgot my User password for the only, and hence, Administrator account on my laptop. I was going to try and do a system recovery from my Sytem Image back up, but I can't access the System Repair boot menu without the password.Alternatively, any information for reseting/removing an Administrator User account password for Windows 7.
