My real issue is that I forgot my User password for the only, and hence, Administrator account on my laptop. I was going to try and do a system recovery from my Sytem Image back up, but I can't access the System Repair boot menu without the password.Alternatively, any information for reseting/removing an Administrator User account password for Windows 7.
View 2 RepliesI am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

I just finished realoading windows and all my software and now I'm going through and removing things from his start menu so he only has access to limited programs, he's 9 and he doesn't know to go into the c:/program files to get anything. I was in his standard user account moving stuff so it would only show up on my login. So when it came up and asked for an administrator password I typed in my password and did what I had to do. The only problem is now he still has access to those things that I authorized. I can now go into his account and access my documents. I would think you would have to put in the administrator password every time but obviously that's not the case. How do I reset that so he no longer has access to that stuff?

I log onto my new Admin account and go to the Control Panel and then to add or remove user accounts. I select the old account select delete, and then confirm. It does not let me do this. However, oddly there is no error message, it just sends me back to the page I was on previously and the account is still there. I also cannot demote it to a standard user account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a windows 7 ultimate edition 32 bit and linux mint 11 Katya on dual boot, I forgot my password for the only user account on windows 7 and that account was an administrator, unfortunately, i never created the password reset disk, after trying for a day or 2 to figure the password out, i started using mint to my advantage, i downloaded and installed a tool called "Chntpw", it's supposed to remove the password entirely or change it and it's able to unlock locked accounts like the guest account, i used the following command after changing the directory to my Windows/System32/config:
Sudo chntpw -u <myusername> sam
for some reason my SAM file is in lower case letters, anyways after using that to remove the password on my account, it says it was successful and i saved it and even checked it again and it says that it no longer requires a password, but when i rebooted my pc into windows 7, it still asked for a password, and after trying to a few other things like unlocking the administrator and guest accounts, 3 things happened: my account's profile picture changed, the password hint i typed disappeared and switch user option appeared, i tried using it but it for administrator it requires a password even though chntpw says it doesn't, and for the guest account it says that the method i'm using to log in isn't allowed.so i'm basically stuck out of my windows 7, and i'm doing my best to avoid a reinstall cuz my windows installation is 2.5 years old and it's working real fine and has alot programs, personal data and drivers installed.
I have been given a laptop to try and sort out. For some unknown reason the user account has changed from an administrator to a guest account. Tried logging on through safe mode but nobody knew the administrator password. I cleared the password and gained access to the system via safe mode. When trying to access the system via admin normally the admin account was not activated.
So safe mode again and reactivated it finally got into the system in normal mode but now the user that was guest that i want to make admin again con not be found. If i go looking in the users folder there user name and folder is there. If I try to create a new user with the same user name the system will not let me. I need to get it back. How to achieve this?

So I think, okay, I'll just try to start up it in Safe Mode, no problem. But when I try to start it in Safe Mode the computer freezes at classpnp.sys and doesn't continue. Essentially I cannot install anything, as it requires User Account Control verification, but the password field for the admin pass does not show up, so the only option each time is to click 'No' and cancel the installation. I assume this is because there is no admin password set. I tried for a long while previously, I have tried to enter using safe mode and try and disable UAC, yet when doing so the UAC actually pops up in sade mode without the pass field again. I have also tried using Offline NT Registor and Password Editor to create a new pass for the admin, yet no luck as the admin afterwards doesn't require a pass nor does the pass field in the UAC show.

It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. He forgot the password for the main account and whenever I try to transfer files to an external hard drive, a screen pops up and tells me to it cannot transfer files without password. Is there anyway to get around this? EDIT: I thought maybe it would be important to add that the account that I'm using to get access to the files must not have permissions to change anything on the computer. Don't ask me how my friend figured out how to restrict himself from changing anything on the computer, but he did and this general lack of knowledge about computers, likely got in into the trouble, that now is going to require me to do a full restore.
