Recently I've used Hyperdesk (Hyperdesk: The ultimate desktop themes for Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, skins, icons, wallpapers, widgets, desktop themes for Disney, Pixar and Star Trek, themes for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and more!) but eventually disliked it and uninstalled again. Since then most of my standard Windows 7 icons are missing/not showing up.
I tried rebuilding the icon cache with tutorials posted on this site = no luck.
Also tried a restore point, still no luck. Have attached 2 screenshots for you
All else is running smoothly and I don't really want to reinstall all Windows just because of a few icons not showing up
In one of my user account( standard User account) i cant see folder icons ,thumbnails etc but iam able to see all folder icons etc in my admin user account? .even,my computer icon in desktop is corrupted and not properly visible.in windows explorer also,it is the same case.
Is there a way to make the folder icons look like the windows XP folder icons, where the folders are flat instead of skewed, and showed 1 to 4 picture thumbnails? Its awfully difficult for someone like me who has a huge amount of categorization to find what he is looking for due to the lack of functionality that the folder thumbnails have in this version of Windows. Yeah, sure they look all pretty, but its difficult to even figure out what the general picture contents of the folder is unless you're already very familiar with it.
Some of the icons normally showing what a program type is are missing now. I HAVE all the DESKTOP icons and those in the system tray. But in Windows Explorer lists or in Word Perfect and Word lists of file names, many of the small icons that normally appear next to a program's name, or showing what type of document or file it is, are now missing. Not all, just some. I have mostly open square boxes. It doesn't matter whether I'm looking at a list of files I've created, or looking at the items in various system folders: most are just empty open squares instead of the individual icons. I have Windows 7 64-bit OS , both Mozilla 17 and IE9 browsers.
All my icons are gone in my system tray. I'm using windows 7 SP1. I've tried registry fixes, restarting explorer, turning off PNP services, a system restore, etc., without success. The thing is that the icons reappear very briefly while I'm logging off and if for any reason the logging off is delayed while windows is trying to close programs and then I cancel the logging off, the icons manage to stay. But they disappear again in the next log-on. I'm trying to avoid a re-install ....
here a very strange problem that happen JUST with ONE user. All the other users, administrator included, do not have this problem. So I think it is not a system wide problem, just one user (ME, sadly) problem.I pretty much tryed a lot of stuff to try to fix this problem, without no luck. Here what happen.Desktop icon problem, when I do log on or logoff (or when I do reboot the computer and I do load the affected user) icons reset, themeself on the left side of the desktop and with the Aligne Icon to the Grid. And NO, the View/Automatically place the icons (or something like that, I do not use English language) it is not selected. Also if I select any option, they are always resetted to an evident "default" for my user I never ever configured.Folder problem. It is similar and probably connected to the other problem, like a particular switch loaded on this user and just this user that reset everything to this default I never choosed. If, for example, I do choose to personalize folder details (example to have both date changed and date accessed for a folder), it will work for as long as the window stay open, then If I close and reopen it, it go to a default and that default is not choosed by me. This happen for any folder.
On loading Win7 X64, all the system tray icons load, but there is no little square box that contains them.. They all sit on the task bar on the right corner beside the speaker icon as small icons as in the box for the tray.
It's been like this ever since I uninstalled a theme and icon package (7CONIFIER) that had been giving me error messages on boot. Since then, I've deleted the IconCache.db, re/downloaded 7CONIFIER and IconPackager to use their restore functions. I've also tried pinning/unpinning to the taskbar, this works and the original icon is restored until I close it or right-click it where it just goes back to the blank white icon.
Yesterday I've formatted my PC and installed Windows 7 again. Everything is fine, however, some tray icons are missing, like Comodo Firewall and Realtek HD Audio tray icons. Could this be related to some Windows Updates or something? I checked Task Manager and the program processes were running (Comodo/Realtek), just the tray icons were missing.
I have Autoruns on my system and trying to speed things up a bit I went in to tweak a little and turn off some start-up items. Apparently I turned off something that I need but don't know what it is to turn it back on.Now when I boot up, I get my wallpaper on my desktop....but no shortcut icons. They come up when I right click the desk top.
Most of my windows icons are missing it happened for most of my applications and desktop icons too, even for images, as shown in the attached image..(as you can see the desktop icons have been restored but they still carry a small missing icon)Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Starter[CODE]
my system is a dell desktop running windows 7 64-bit home premium. i have 8 gb ram, and a 2.8 ghz intel core i7 processor. i was fooling around with windows backup and restore and i created a new user account. i rebooted and noticed that in my primary user account, the one i always use (not the new one), a good portion of my desktop icons had disappeared. i also noticed that in the new account i created, only 1 of the many desktop icons displayed. most, if not all, of the disappeared icons are shortcuts to applications such as vmware, itunes, Internet downloader, etc. but these applications are still there within the start menu under "all programs". unfortunately, i'm not sure exactly how long the missing icons have been gone. i just noticed the problem a few days ago.all the previous versions of my desktop folder, dating back to last july, seem to contain only the shortcuts that display now, not the missing icons, and i'm pretty sure that all the icons were present back then. it doesn't make sense. how could all the icons display if they weren't in the desktop folder to begin with? i have no idea of how i could have deleted only some of the shortcuts either. i realize i could just recreate the shortcuts on the desktop, but something weird happened here, and i'd like to know what it is. also, there is one icon that displays that isn't in the desktop folder but is in the "links" folder. it's a dvd-making application called corel windvd 2010.
i tried rebuilding the icon cache and it didn't bring back the missing icons. all it did was change my corel video studio application icon from a generic one to the little camera logo like it's supposed to be. there are still no icons displayed on the desktop of the new user account that i created, except for the corel windvd 2010 one and a gadget for my corel video studio pro x application (it's a movie editing software package). strangely, the gadget does appear in the new user account and so does the corel windvd 2010 icon.i have a screenshot of my desktop from before the icons disappeared and from that i can see that about 18 icons disappeared. furthermore, the default desktop folder doesn't contain any shortcuts either, which probably explains why no icons appear in the new account i created. shouldn't the default desktop folder contain the shortcuts?i tried running a microsoft utility that's supposed to fix broken desktop shortcuts but that didn't fix the problem. are there any other locations that might contain the missing icons other than just the "desktop" and "links" folders? perhaps within the registry or something?
why do all my icons have the letter e on them, when i click on them it takes me to a download window, still it wont let me open to run the program, many icons are missing, what can i do or where can i start to try fixing this?
I have a folder I use to collect files for a program. It is subordinate to My Documents. Three days ago it disappeared. It is not, however gone! I can put the path into the address line of Explorer (the files version - not the browser) and it magically appears. Also I can search and find all the files/folders in that folder individually by name with 'search'. I've set cursor on My Documents and opened >Tools>Folder Options>View and checked "Show hidden files folders and drives". I've tried this at various levels as well. I also ran a batch attrib e.g.:
@echo off Echo This script will unhide all files in the current folder and all subfolders. Echo If there are a lot of files, it may take some time to complete. Attrib -H /S /D echo Unhide Complete pause
This obviously ran for a few minutes from C:
Wierd. I can get to the files, but the folder does not show up under My Documents as it should. I've tried to recreate the folder directly subordinate to My Documents, and get a warning that the folder already exists. This is not a total loss since I can get to the folder, but would be nice to simply open My Documents, scroll down and find it.
Before installing Windows 7 on my (hitherto Vista) VAIO I effected a full backup on an external hard drive.
I then installed Windows 7 and noticed all my program files were missing. When I went into the Windows.old folder I was able to see a good deal of them, seemingly most of those that I had installed myself, such as iTunes, 7Zip, etc.
The programs that were already installed on the VAIO when I bought it from the VAIO store, however, were absent. For example the whole Sony Recovery tool program, Adode Photoshop and others.
When I connected the hard drive to the laptop I was able to see the backup I had done just before Windows 7 installation but when I tried to expand the folder down (hoping to see 'Program Files') I only saw a series of strange looking (albeit large) files that didn't mean very much.
Presumably this is the way in which my backup was encrypted or stored, but is there a way in which I can access the individual programs from the hard drive so that I can put them back on my laptop?
I was able to find all my music, videos and documents in the Windows.old folder, and have restored them, but the missing programs worry me. Also the amount of free space on the laptop is identical now to when I still had Vista on there, making me think that perhaps the 'missing' programs haven't been deleted at all but may just be hiding somewhere in the 'Windows.old' folder. But I could well be wrong about that.
I am having issues with my computer. I had all of my icons and task bar on my computer, but now they are not there. The only thing I am able to do is pull up the task manager and nothing else. I do not want to shut the PC down illeagally as there is a new hard drive on the system.
I have Microsoft 2003 When I open Excel I HAVE the tool bars (File, View Insert etc) on top where it should be. However the icons I put there from Tools function ie Delete columns, font size, copy, cut etc have all disappeared I tried to reinstalling them by going to Tools Custom-. When I try to select an icon for example Edit copy or even delete column arrow and try to move it up to the tool bar on top of the page it will not work.
Ok I have several things on my desktop but for some reason they are gone now and you can only see them in Explorer when you click on desktop. Is this by design I swear they were there before.
I needed to remove one of my programs and re-install an older version. After doing so, some of my program icons are gone.I did some research, and already tried deleting the icon cache, which did not help any. Below I have a picture of what some of my icons have changed to. I also have a picture of the properties window when I try to change the icon back manually:I really would like to avoid a clean install (but could do it if there's no other solution), and I don't have any System Restore points.
Just started having a small problem with icons not showing in the notification area. The programs are running (or so Task Manager tells me), but I am unable to open a program that does not show its icon.
One program is SUPERAntiSpyware. I have it set to run a scan each night and I usually click on the icon the notification area to see results. Also use Karen's Replicator to backup some data each night.
I have Windows live messenger and Skype and Microsoft Office, so far they're the only ones I noticed that are doing this. But when I open them, the icon in the taskbar shows a basic windows classic icon, it does not show the proper icon for these programs. I pin the program to the taskbar, and then unpin it, and it shows up correctly for a while, but then goes back to classic windows icon. How can I try and fix this?
Yesterday a user complained that there laptop had slowed down in recent days. I went ahead and ran msconfig the I deleted most of the programs that were running on startup. I also stopped some services. The PC speed improved but when the user restarted the laptop there were no icons or taskbar.
I pressed ctrl-alt-del and started task manager. I started explorer.exe and my computer showed up with the drives on the machine. I also ran sfc /scannow and it did give any errors, i created another profile and it has the same results. When I right click on the desktop nothing shows up. I booted into safe mode and there are no restore points to recover to.
I suspect the problem is registry related and was caused by me deleting the startup programs. I am not sure how I can restore the laptop without reinstalling it.
All of a sudden running programs that I have minimized no longer have an icon on the task bar so that I can open them up when needed. I have to go to the task manager to get to them. Not sure what I did but I can't seem to get them to display on the task bar again.
I've had a weird error with Windows 7. It happened after I tried to remove the watermark and edit user32 (or something like that). I do have the battery icon, but it's missing the battery info. I believe it's a explorer related error, because each time this happens and I go to right click the desktop explorer.exe stops responding.
Does anybody have any information on this, or how I could repair my system to a state before? System restore is disabled on this machine.
Win 7 x64. Office 2010. Icons missing on both desktop and start up menu, managed to restore my adobe ones but still unable to sort my office icons out.I've tried other ideas off multiple forums but as yet I've been unsuccessful. Can not repair/uninstall office. tried to rebuild icon cache.db , used replacement icon files that were posted on a forum and copied them over. The problem was either linked to ccleaner (over reaching its bounds) or when I made changes to windows and registry folders (probably the latter)
I am having a few problems with some of my notification area icons.
Some of the programs I have set to start of boot (not very many I might add) aren't loading their icons in the notification area. However, if I log off, and log back on again, they appear again. Same if I restart explorer.exe.
I have tried clearing the cache (works until a reboot), and various other methods I have found online, all doing similar things. And while they work after a log off, to explorer.exe restart, they will not work after a fresh reboot. I have also run sfc /scannow and it finds no violations. Is there anyway to replace my explorer.exe from an SP1 extraction?
