Jan 15, 2009On my new Acer M7720 (X58 Core-i7-920) I have Vista HP 64 bits working fine with an Conceptronic 2 port KVM switch so I can also use keyboard, mouse & monitor on my old PC. On the new Acer I also installed Windows 7, but here the mous and keyboard are not recogized when connected through the KVM switch.
I have to stick both in the front site USB ports, then baoth are working. When I stick them in the KVM switch, you can here the USB connect sound and both devices are shown under unknown devices, wereas the are shown under devices when connected through the front side USB ports.
Any one an idea how to salve this? by the way the KVM switch is also 'seen' by Windows 7 under devices even though it doens't need any drivers. All conncected devices are shown (I have also 2 USB drives)

Have found some cheap-enough remotes on Amazon that provide basic functionality such as mouse navigation and closing/opening windows (e.g., "PC Remote Controller", "Vista Remote Control"), but none have provided the needed versatility documented above. (They typically offer four colored "hot buttons" that allow for programmable launching of programs via a shortcut-"shortcut", but not programmable keystroke combinations.)
Am running a non-WMP-oriented Windows 7 HTPC on a large monitor, and routinely do things like browse google-news from a distance using the handheld Sony universal remotes to open/close/switch windows in a mobile manner from various locations without being chained to a keyboard & mouse. So I went into Windows XP but switched to IDE storage Config. in the Bios Fixed it Rebooted Changed to AHCI which is what Windows 7 was Installed with So. Now When I go to Windows 7 NO Matter what Mode (Safe Mode) Keyboard and Mouse there Off they don't stay on after boot. I tried a PS2 Converter, Switched USB Ports, Put in a new Keyboard and Nothing. My situation:
I've got two PCs.
* 1st (Windows 7 x64) has two ethernet cards:
- internet is connected to the first card
- other connected to switch
* 2nd is a laptop (Windows 7 x86) with one ethernet card connected to switch
I can see many unknown PC's in network devices. They are my Internet provider other clients. I can see my laptop there as well but cannot access it.
From 1st PC I can just "join" homegroup. From 2nd - just "create".
Created from 2nd PC homegroup is not accessible from 1st pc (wrong password, even if it is right one)
So I am confused how should I set up everything that:
- both pc's can be accessible from each other
- 1st pc will share internet connection with 2nd pc.

Jun 30, 2011I have started using an ASUS slate and find the Windows on-screen keyboard almost impossible to use because of the way the keys flash after you touch them (or even hover over them) - the fade delay is way too long resulting in a mass of flashing keys when typing with any sort of speed. I would have expected this to be a setting under the keyboard options or general personalization but no amount of digging or Google searching has turned anything up for me. Does anyone know how I can turn this off or at least reduce the fade delay time?

Apr 8, 2011I can turn on a pc from another machine on the same home network, but can not from the Internet.I am doing this Wake-On-WAN experiment at home by using two machines each connected to the Internet through different ISP.The problem must be somewhere in the BIOS or the router setting for the machine to be turned on.I reviewed the BIOS and found the relevant option was enabled by default. As for the router(D-Link DIR 655), I set the portforwarding for the machine with a arbitrary port number(I picked 9) assigned. I did not see anything else relevant but I might have missed something.To send the magic packet, I am using depicus GUI. I also tried one at dslreports website.So far no luck yet. By using packet analysis utility of Wireshark, I could confirmed that the magic packet is hitting the router for the target PC but for some reason, the router does not forward the packet to the target PC's NIC. Instead, it broadcasts ARP to get the MACID of the NIC. Note that the magic packet contains the MAC ID and this is confirmed by intercepting this packet at the sending end PC.
