How To Remotely Control Two Computers Together
Jun 29, 2012I primarily use two desktops for my work in my house. They both access the same Internet via ethernet cords, and they are always on. I often switch between the two desktops, which means I have I re-open all my programs.
I want both desktops to share everything they do(something I open on one computer opens remotely on the other).
How can this be done? I am open to any software(ie:both desktops also have Linux)

Sep 11, 2009I've seen this somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it again. There is a way of setting only certain remotes to work with certain PCs so they don't interfere with others. I have my HTPC and laptop in the same room, both with IR receivers - whenever I use the remote for my PC, the laptop ends up with all the signals too, and I come back to find it's playing a video or something.
Does anyone here know where that tutorial/registry setting is to change remote control channels?

Jun 3, 2012where to find a reasonably priced IR remote that can be programmed to transmit any manner of standard Windows keyboard keystroke-combinations, I mean such standard combinations as as Ctrl-W to close a tab or window (as opposed to the global Alt-F4 command that closes the entire program), or Ctrl-+/- to increase/decrease the displayed font size in a window, or Alt-Tab to simply switch open windows?I have three identically programmed venerable Sony RM VM-700 IR learning remotes that am fairly in love with, situated in various corners of my abode for convenience, and want to program the above signals onto their buttons to be picked up by a standard USB IR receiver. Have found some cheap-enough remotes on Amazon that provide basic functionality such as mouse navigation and closing/opening windows (e.g., "PC Remote Controller", "Vista Remote Control"), but none have provided the needed versatility documented above. (They typically offer four colored "hot buttons" that allow for programmable launching of programs via a shortcut-"shortcut", but not programmable keystroke combinations.)
Am running a non-WMP-oriented Windows 7 HTPC on a large monitor, and routinely do things like browse google-news from a distance using the handheld Sony universal remotes to open/close/switch windows in a mobile manner from various locations without being chained to a keyboard & mouse. My need is to increase the Sony remotes' functionality to transmit whatever manner of keyboard-shortcut keystroke-combinations that may be desired. recommend a lower-end IR remote that provides such programmable functionality? The intent is to get said keysoke-combos programmed into that, then relay them onto the Sony learning remotes for daily use. Is a $100+ Logitech Harmony unit my only option? If so, which of their several models provides such Windows-keyboard programmability?
Logitech G510 Keyboard's Volume Control Wheel Doesn't Work?
Feb 17, 2011as described I use a Logitech G510 keyboard with multimedia keys and the posibility to insert a headset into it (the keyboard got its own soundcard). The keyboard also got a volume wheel which worked with Vista like it should: I could controle the speaker's volume by the keyboard.
Now with Win 7 I can't use the wheel anymore, even with the latest drivers.

Oct 12, 2010I am trying to set my monitor's screen give accurate renditions of my pictures. I use Quick Gamma to set gamma. When doing this I can use either Nvidia's controls or windows controls (right click desktop>Nvidia Control Panel. When using Nvidia's Control Panel, there are two choices: Use other applications control color settings or Use Nvidia settings. Am I correct in assuming that the former setting is Windows? I always check the button to use Nvidia settings (and then Apply>OK), but when I go back to this screen at a later time, the Other applications control color settings is always selected. I'd like to default to Nvidia.

Mar 8, 2012Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.

I accidentally spilled wine on it and the keyboard no longer worked.I purchased a Microsoft wired desktop 600, but it has no function keys. On the original keyboard I used Fn E12 to connect to a network, but with the new keyboard I can no longer connect to a network. There must be a workaround?

The problem is I'm not sure how the OS's work, haven't messed with them sense XP. I want to install Windows 7 on the new computer in 64-bit.
however I also want to install it on the older one in 32-bit, is there a disc that has both or do i have to buy one or the other. and is using the windows 7 disc on 2 different computers that belong to me against the terms of use?

i get the prompt saying taht i need to enter a user and password when i could do it before without entering it.
in XP having both accounts with the same name and password and some register magic solved the problem, but Windows 7 is different many aspects so i need help.
i can bypass this error by sharing all my drives but... i dont want to left my laptop with the legs open, or well turning on and off the sharing option.
the homegroup is working, though only shares what it want and i will not mess with it (too many files in both hardrives to having access to one zone of the partition).
Computers Can't See Each Other On LAN
Dec 22, 2009My stepbrothers and I have been playing some games over our LAN lately. Two of us (including myself) are connected from laptops wirelessly, and the other is connected on a wired desktop. The game we had been playing is Call of Duty, patch version 1.5. All we had been doing before was one of us would create a server, and it would show up in the LAN list for the other two of us.
No set up needed, just installed and played. However, this evening we went to play again and no servers show up for the LAN. It doesn't matter who makes the server, no one else can see it. If I try to ping any other computer on the network, I get no response. If I go to the network devices, nothing shows up. However, if I go into my router I can see all devices, wired and wireless.
They just won't show up under the Windows network devices. I am running Windows 7, and the other laptop and desktop are running XP. We have made no changes to any of the systems. LAN servers just stopped showing up.

May 7, 2009I have homegroup set up on my windows 7 (I think). I can see all my windows XP computers, but they can't see me. How do I configure my network in windows 7. The network wizard was so simple in windows XP, but I haven't been able to get it right in Vista or Windows 7.

All the settings I do on one computer (desktop theme, registry changes, IE settings, taskbar size, desktop icons and shortcuts, quick launch toolbar etc.) I need to do all over again, by hand , on all the other computers. Insomniac Computers
Sep 20, 2009Both my desktop and my laptop are insomniacs. I have wake on lan configured on the desktop, but I only want the machine to wake up when I send the magic packet. I have set it that way in the network adapter settings, and still it will turn on at random times. I have checked the BIOS to make sure that nothing is causing it to turn on there. I have checked the power settings to make sure that the wake timer turned off. I have gone into Windows Media Center to make sure that it will not wake up my computer to update constantly.
I then decided top go into command prompt on both computers to see what is causing them to wake up. I typed in "powercfg -lastwake" on both computers and it said that the last wake on my desktop was caused by the USB root hub. I went into the device manager and checked all of the USB root hubs to make sure that the device was allowed to turn off to save power. I did not see any of them with the setting that allows the device to wake the computer on.
On my laptop it said that the last wake was caused by the power button. the only problem with this is that the event viewer says that it woke up at 4 in the morning while I was fast asleep. The event viewer confirmed what powercfg had said. The laptop is closed and nothing could cause the power button to become depressed while it is closed. What is causing my laptop to turn on?
As for the desktop, I am waiting to see if changing the USB root hub settings will have any effect.
Does anyone have any other possibilities was to what might be causing my computers to wake up?
