there isn't going to be upgrading for old computers 2008 and older.
i say this because i have tried windows seven and it is slow even on my newest computer it is very sad and all three of my computers are power house is anyone else having this problem...
Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.
Yesterday I was watching a movie on VLC media player when my whole laptop started freezing randomly, and I had to wait 1 minute until it unfroze, and after that it was slow as sh*t and I couldn't even restart it, it would stay stuck on my desktop wallpaper. Then I just got impatient and removed my laptop battery and unplugged the AC cord. Then I restarted my laptop and I couldn't get passed the BIOS, it just showed a black screen with no cursor or anything.
I tried pressing F8 to enter safe mode but the safe mode screen doesn't appear. I also tried doing a system restore from my BIOS but it would just give me an error saying that the restore point was corrupted. Also, I did drop my laptop about 30 mins before this happened, but it wasn't even a 1 foot drop and it was on carpet, but I'm guessing by this that something inside the laptop got dislocated or something. And yes it was the only time I've dropped it. Also, when you let the black screen on for about 15 mins it goes into System Repair but that doesn't do anything at all.
I wouldn't mind just taking it to the shop and completely reinstalling Windows, but I have about 10gb of music and I seriously don't want to lose it. Yes I know I should have backed it up but I've never had a problem before so I didn't expect this.
I was just searching the internet- probably on facebook 2 past Friday when (I think) I opened a new tab on Firefox, and everything closed and shut down. Now, it had shut down like this before a couple days before.. However, this time a blue screen of death appeared right after I went into normal mode after the restart.
I tried it in safe mode.. I am able to get in to the log in screen.. then the waiting screen.. then the BSOD. I've heard that it's supposed to tell you what the problem is, but I still don't know what it is. I have some pictures below. They're pretty bad though because I only see it for a second before it disappears.
I've tried diagnostics and repair.. Restoring to 2 weeks ago- spring break. Taking out my "new" devises (memory drives and graphics card) that I installed more than 3 months ago and replacing the memory with the ones it came with. The only thing that I THINK I haven't tried is command prompt (which probably won't help because I don't know how to use it) and the restore to factory setting. I have clicked on it, and it has given me an error (pictures follow.) F2-F8-F12- pressed them all.
I'm happy to say my Razer Death Adder Mouse software (just loaded) works fine in Windows 7 RC1 build 7100 installed in XP SP3 compat mode (love this mouse )
View 9 Replies View RelatedI hope this is the correct section to put this in. For the past 4 days, I have been trying to fix my computer but I am stumped. My computer is running Windows 7 Professical 32 bit. On Sunday night, I turn on my computer. It starts up like normal, until screen where it asks if I want to boot into Startup Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. I think nothing of it and just start it normally. After I select that, it reboots and goes back to that boot screen. Naturally, I just let it run Startup Repair. I let it run overnight and in the morning I find my computer with a black screen and movable cursor. I didn't think much of it, so I rebooted and the black screen persists. I look up possible solutions for this (I later found out this problem is called the a Black Screen of Death or KSOD) but have failed to discover a solution.

The full details of my system before anyone can help.The computer is an Intel core 2 duo 6600 2.40 Ghz with 2 meg ram. Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT graphics card. I have no onboard VGA graphics just the Gforce, and I am not sure if I have DVI display the monitor just connects with the normal socket.
The hard drive I am installing to is a 80Gig SATA and I formatted it before starting with the windows 7 RC boot dvd so it is a clean install. I downloaded the installation file and burn the image with Nero on a slow speed.When I boot from the DVD all works ok and the computer restarts a few times, and then just a black screen.
After several attempts i did manage to get as far as inputting the serial number and windows 7 started up it then connected to the internet and downloaded some updates and then restarted and i was back to the black sreen, i could at that time boot into safe mode but i was not able to connect to the internet and download new video drivers.
Then after foollowing some advice i did another install, I tried a reinstall and now I can’t get as far as the serial number. I can’t understand this as I did have it running just the once even if it was in safe mode. I have run the Windows 7 RC upgrade advisor and that says my computer is ok to run Windows 7 including the Gforce card.
There seems to be a vulnerability in windows 7. it's all about the SRV2.sys driver, solutions are for now to block ports 139 and 445 and SMB feature. My questions is has anyone already experienced this problem.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron and whenever I turn my pc on a blue screen flashes and says Windows Cannot Load.. It goes directly to Startup Repair. However, That does not fix the issue.I tried a Recovery Disk for Windows 7 iso and that does not work either.. It started rebooting back to the factory settings but when it completed, and restarted, the blue screen of death was still around.I tried Command Prompt with Scandsk/ f I believe and that did not work at first because it was write protected.. I found a way past that and nothing. At one point it said boot memtest.exe is missing or corrupt.Right now I got into a Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool.. I have no idea how I did but its checking for memory problems. The only way I got to this was by pressing the down button when booting with windows recovery disk via dvd drive.. and when it stated press any button to boot. when I press down it gets to this.Is my hard drive fried? Can this be rectified?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the last few weeks I've had random Black Screens Of Death. It can happen (most of the time) while playing a game, but it has happened while the PC was idle (rare) and just now it happened as I was attempting to refresh the Win 7 performance index. Most of the time, the screen goes black (complete video signal loss) and I have to hard reset. On the rare occasion it will go black, then after a while crash and dump. The last minidump file I got is included here. It seems fairly obvious that the issue is video related but I can't tell if it's the ATI drivers or a 3rd party driver causing havok with them.I've been trying, with zero success, to get some Driver Verifier output. Once I set Driver Verifier to check the 3rd party drivers it bluescreens during the Windows 7 splash screen and then reboots and loops. What I did do was hit F8 during one of the loops and stopped it from rebooting on error so I could capture the detail of the bluescreen. It's as follows:

I recently purchased the upgrade to windows 7 from vista and have had nothing but problems. After spending 12 hours on the phone with microsoft i got nowhere. I was told to reinstall windows 7 but still have all the same issues. After about 30 minutes or so it crashes and i get the bsod telling me Driver_power_state_failure with the corresponding error code. Microsoft obviously has no clue as their techs had me on the phone 12 hours and knew less than I do.

Have tried everything,took out battery on motherboard for half hour, reinserted and restarted. holding down delete button. got the bios screen and reset to defaults. save and exit, and then just black screen.

Got the blue screen of death today. Using Windows 7. Q9450 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 790i motherboard, nVidia GeForce 9800GTX. I did not install any new programs, change any settings, hook up any new devices or hardware. I woke up, hopped on and started using Firefox to read up on the Haiti earthquake. Clicked a link to a safe news site and Firefox locked up. I couldn't escape and tried opening the task manager via CTRL+ALT+DEL, no luck.
Finally the screen faded and the pop-up on the top left corner appeared, asking me if I wanted to cancel the process for Firefox since it wasn't working. I'm guessing this is a new feature to Windows 7, since it's happened to me a few times since I got it. So I canceled the Firefox process through this method and it closed a bit later. But then nothing worked.
The task manager still did not appear and I couldn't open anything. The screen faded again and this time it said Windows Explorer wasn't working. I didn't worry because I got this message a few times before. I said yes to cancel, expecting it to reboot itself and start working again like the last few times. But it didn't. Just locked up.
So I turned off the PC via the power button and started her back up. Got to the Windows loading screen. Took longer than usual. Before I even got to the account selection screen, a very quick blue screen of death flashed before immediately restarting.Went through the usual POST stuff. But then it said Windows was experiencing a problem, do I want to repair Windows or start normally.
I tried to repair but to no avail - just a black screen. I waited about ten minutes on this black screen and it was later replaced by a blue screen with the Windows logo, and I could move the mouse around, but no options to repair or anything else.
So I then tried to start her up in safe mode. Same thing: quick BSoD, then restart. I can't even read the text of the BSoD, it flashes by so fast. I tried starting her up from my last known good configuration, no go. So I'm not sure what to do. I'm half tempted to just buy a new hard drive and start fresh, or maybe somehow get Linux installed and working. I don't know what to do, so hopefully someone has a solution for my problem.
My computer has recently started to get the Black Screen of death every time I try to log in. It boots up and goes through the bios and the Windows 7 logo but after that, rather than loading the 'log-in screen' it simply stays as blank, black screen. There is no cursor, mouse, error message, etc. and Ctrl, Alt, Del does not work here either. It will however allow me to log in via 'safe mode'.
I have tried the following fixes: I have restored the computer to a known working date; I have tried repairing the MBR, as well as the Boot sector; I have run a 'Check Disk' with no errors coming back; I have tried the 'Prevx Black Screen Fix'; I have run a 'Memory diagnostics test' via Windows 7 live cd, which returned no errors; and I have also tried the 'Repair' option in the menu on the Windows 7 live cd.
Now, every once in a while, it will actually make it to the log-in screen and let me log into Windows like normal, which then proceeds to work just fine. But, if I restart the computer, it will again get stuck at the Black Screen right before the log-in screen and just sit there. And all the fans are working, the green light comes on on the motherboard, and everything seems to be in working order as far as hardware goes. What could be the problem?? I am out of ideas at this point.

I have a gateway nv53a laptop with 8 gig onboard(only thing changed from spec)..every night around 2am(and I mean within 10 minutes before or after) my laptop freezes and I get the blue screen of death. I have to do a hard reboot in order to get back to windows.. when I reboot it tells me something about windows live not fully loading or something to that effect(I usually just click ok and close screen so I cant remember) Or start me down the path by suggestions on where to start? I know this isnt the most detailed query but I dont really know what to say as this is frustrating and has been going on now for over a month.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo today I put a new motherboard/CPU/PSU/ and 2 sticks of DDR3 RAM 8 gigs (Corsair Vengeance) into my tower.
After I booted it up and downloaded the drivers for my mobo, I tried to run the Windows System Rating program.
Almost immediately after clicking the run button my fan on my GPU kicks into high gear and my screen goes black and my monitor loses signal to my PC and shuts off. I have to force shutdown my PC.
I booted my PC back up and tried to run a game and lo' and behold the same thing occurs. So I do a clean install of my OS because I figured I was having some issues with conflicting drivers from my old mobo because in my eagerness I neglected to uninstall them prior to swapping the new motherboard in.
After the clean install I again went and downloaded the drivers for my motherboard, GPU and updated my DirectX. I figured that this would of fixed it but NO.
I'm still having the same problem.
So I went and downloaded a program that would scan my system for outdated drivers and ran it. It came up with 2 outdated drivers: One for my sound card and one for my PCI express. SO I'm currently downloading those to see if by some chance that this fixes it. But I doubt it

I've had vista for the past year and this has never happend, soon as I install Windows 7 atleast once a day my laptop will randomly "BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH" with either the error "PFN LIST CORRUPT" OR "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TO" can you shed any light on this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got a new Lenovo computer back in January and it came with a trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus Plus. Free trial ended and now it wants me to pay for it, but with all the free anti-virus software like AVG I do not want to. I tried downloading AVG but it would not work resulting in an error saying it couldn't as long as McAfee was installed on the computer. So I go to add/remove programs and uninstalled McAfee. I restart the computer as instructed and BAM! Blue Screen of Death upon trying to start up. I could only get the computer to work by going into Safe Mode (Safe Mode with networking wouldn't even work) and performed restore to an earlier date and things seem to be okay now. But I am stuck with my new "friend" McAfee. So I guess the question(s) is how do I get rid of McAfee so I can get other anti-virus software without a blue screen of death? And is this a known issue of McAfee screwing your computer up when trying to get rid of it and it's ugly tentacles? Needless to say, I am not a fan of them right now.

I just finished my first build about 3 months ago, and everytihng was nice and dandy until NOW I start getting the blue screen of death. It says something like error dxgmms1.sys driver_irql_not_less_than_or_equal. I did just some limited resarch on the net, and people are saying that I should try to update my drivers. I updated the video card driver, I`m pretty sure I got the latest motherboard bios, and W7 says no current updates available. Now the last time it happned to me I was watching a movie so I figured it might be the video card? But on the net people say I should run memtest. So i did and while it was running it killed again?. So is the RAM or the video card, how can I find out?
